Brilliant signing by United getting Schweinsteiger, got to be said. A class player.

{Ed002's Note - yep, another one Liverpool missed out on.}

IrishRed- how many times have you watched him over the past season? He's slowed down incredibly which for a battling midfielder box to box like he was is never a good sign a la Steven Gerrard. Him and Alonso didn't work together so no guarentee him and Carrick will.

11 Jul 2015 16:33:56
He's not the player he was. They'll probably drop carrick to accommodate him. The only midfielder who actually made a difference to them last season. Far happier with our business.

11 Jul 2015 16:41:10
He's still a top player and at the price were getting him for, a very good move for us. We haven't had a leader since Keane , and with his experience and leader ship, World Cup winning captain etc he will be a great addition for us. Players like him are infectious and raise the game of others around him. If we can add Schneiderlin too, along with Depay who looks special, a top CB and maybe a forward I'd say we're well placed to challenge

He was never that quick anyway! Good player but he played less minutes than carrick lasy season! I do agree he won't play with carrick unless blind or Herrera is along side them.

Schweini can do similar damage done by Stevie in 2013-14.And defensively he is good.But anyways we have the surprise package in Milner.

He has been poor for bayern the last 18 months. I know he's had injuries and what not but I mean he seemed off pace on a good few occasions last year in a dominant bayern side who don't have to play at a consistently high tempo like man u will. Still technically brilliant and very intelligent but I don't think it's the player they needed. I don't think he will improve them to any great effect over the course of the season. Unrelated but if they did get muller now that would be a signing. he's a truly fantastic player!

11 Jul 2015 16:59:04
He certainly is no where near the player he used to be. I don't think he will have the impact that he had in years gone by. He obviously thinks he will get more game time than at Munich but i wouldn't be too concerned if he was in the United team and Liverpool were against them.

Ed002 has also commented on Depay not being ready for a top PL just yet so i wouldn't be hanging all my hopes on him just yet!

{Ed002's Note - That is far from a recent comment but van Gaal has already alluded to the differences in the leagues and he will need to be bedded in.}

11 Jul 2015 17:06:21
Not really sure why they've signed him. As a previous poster has already said, he was always a great box to box midfielder. Despite not being blessed with pace, he had incredible power and stamina. He's also incredibly gifted in terms of technical ability. His power and energy has been fading for a few seasons now though. He'll end up being shoe horned into a holding role like Gerrard was or he'll play second fiddle to Mata in a more advanced position.

A really pointless signing in my opinion. He isn't even a leader on the pitch. I don't remember him ever captaining a team and he isn't very vocal. He's experienced and knows Van Gaal but I think United have made a costly mistake here as his wages will no doubt be high. Looks like another "name" signing like Falcao in order to clutch at their status as a top European club.

He's been a great player and may do a great job for united but really all they're doing is replacing an injury prone old man with an injury prone old man
Hardly inspired

11 Jul 2015 17:23:52
Hate to say it but agree with Stand. he may not play every game but will surely make a difference for their midfield. It will be an intesting derby between us

11 Jul 2015 17:34:35
Nonsense, Stand! Scweini is on his last legs and is no longer the player he used to be. Great player no doubt but his time has gone. Alonso is older and still better than him based on last year so your attempt to make his signing look like a masterstroke is laughable. Until proven wrong, your club signed a has-been.

11 Jul 2015 17:43:58
He's looked slow and out of pace this past season. I personally think he'll struggle with the intensity of the premiership just like he struggled badly in champions league this year.

11 Jul 2015 18:01:42
Was Lahm not German captain?

11 Jul 2015 18:47:33
We'll see

11 Jul 2015 21:01:47
He's a big name but not the big player he once was - I don't think it's a signing United needed (unlike say Schneiderlin).
