Was speaking to my arsenal friend earlier and he is convinced that Özil is better Coutinho. Obviously I think otherwise. I wanted to hear other people's views on the two players and how they can be compared. Discuss away!

Countinho has had more influence than Ozil. Ozil cost them close to 45 mill while we got Countinho for less than 10 mill.

Tricky one. Both are excellent when playing well. Question is, who does it more consistently and who has the biggest influence on the team? Coutinho has undoubtedly been our best player since Suarez left, whereas Arsenal can probably do without Ozil more than we can do without Coutinho. Does that mean Arsenal can replace Ozil easier than we can replace Coutinho or does it mean that Coutinho is simply the better player? If Coutinho can keep up his best level this season then it's a no brainer for me.

I think ozil was the much better player. ozil was simply oustanding at madrid. and i think madrid just have not been able to replace the hole left by ozil. however as for arsenal neither is ozil the best player they have nor does he have the influence our coutinho has for the team. ozil is however much better at set pieces than coutinho. so from dead ball situations ozil is just better. coutinho has been scoring from distance but he is really not the type of player who gets into the box to recieve the ball and score/cross. he always needs a player to make a run in front of him to produce a great pass. however ozil runs into the box and looks to find a cross to striker or shoot. coutinho is effective in midfield just outside the penalty box while ozil is mighty effective inside the box. ozil is lost in midfield and he is just not a midfielder. while coutinho is comfortable at dropping deep picking the ball and carrying it , finding space and through balls but is mighty inffective once inside the box. so they are two very different type of No. 10's for you. i still think ozil has the edge over coutinho because of his ability from set pieces. as for impact coutinho certainly impacts more since he drops deep to get on the ball and drives the team forward while ozil in some games is just goes missing.

Take away Coutinho from this LFC team, and his absence will be felt strongly. take away Ozil from Arsenal and there wouldn't be big difference felt. Also, I feel if you put Coutinho into Arsenal, he will stand out, put Ozil in LFC, and he will struggle.

My 2 cents-
Coutinho creates and scores more. Ozil scores n creates less in a team that (at least last season) offered more than us.
Coutinho works way harder for the team.
Coutinho cost 1/5 of what Ozil cost. Bargain.
Imo if AW had paid 10m instead of 45m, Ozil probably won't be starting as much. But he splashed out the 45m so there's that obligation to play him. A bit like BR n Lovren I guess. Haa

I'm probably a bit biased ;) but the way I see it Coutino will only get better, while Ozil already picked.

Interesting. Countinho certainly makes things happen for us but that appears to be our number 1 plan where as at Arsenal, Ozil is one of many options. I think that is part of our problem to be honest.

Ozil at Arsenal apart from a few instances very poor and a huge waste of 42 million pounds.

Akshit I don't understand how you can say real have struggled to replace ozil? Isco and James are both better IMO but I do agree with your point about the differences between the two players
