So Gerrard has come out and said that Rodgers should be the next England boss. Anyone still think Stevie needs a coaching role at Liverpool? I'm of the belief it's best legends stay away, look what happened to king Kenny.

It is a nice thought though, Brendan managing somewhere else. anywhere else. But, here's to hoping he gets it right vs the mancs this weekend!

I personally don't believe a word that comes out og SG's mouth, I know he's advertising his brand spanking reveal all book in the mail for the next few days.
He even admits in articles he contradicts himself, saying he'd love a lesser role at Liverpool, and going into coaching, then says, not being in the first 11 every week would be difficult for a person like him to accept.
I think he's probably angling for a move back to the UK already,he hasn't really endeared himself to the fans out there in the USA.

I would personally take everything any one says when releasing a book, and looking at future income revenues with a hefty pinch of salt.

I still for the life of me cannot understand why the club did not keep Gerrard on as a player/coach. I know he wanted more playing time but surely the club have persuaded him to stay. YNWA

{Ed002's Note - His time had come. It should not be that difficult to understand.}

His statement that Brendan Rodgers should be the next England manager proves what I've been saying for many years. Just because someone has played the game it doesn't mean they have the first clue about the game

I guess I still find it hard to accept but truely hope he will return one day in some capacity, as his knowledge of the club and his experience would be a major asset to LFC. Thanks Ed's YNWA

Gerrard can't even tactically understand the dm role for petes sake!

He was immense in his day but his time was up bigtime, and anyone who thinks the salesman is a genius is deluded
Hes trying to use a system that's sell by date has gone, fraud

Gerrard probably trying to wind up Stirling.

What would it look like to the other players if our glorious Captain signed a contract as a bit-part player?

It was never going to work!

Kenny was able to get through it by becoming a player manager, but the presence of Steven Gerrard sitting on the bench with a gob on just wasn't going to happen, hence the reason why the club COULDN'T keep him.

Good move for all.

Gerrard should have gone a season earlier. Nothing to do with the slip - just that his time was up at then.

12 Sep 2015 01:22:36
Papetwee - hindsight is great, isn't it! He had a great season 2 years ago bar that slip so letting him go when he was still so influential would've been stupid. Please do think before you post trash

Gerrard also said he felt like Rodgers had given up on the Madrid game before it started and that he that the contract he was eventually offered was nothing like what he had discussed with Rodgers (which sounds like a pretty familiar story) so I'm not really sure what he thinks about him.

Gerrard was the reason we scored 101 goals two seasons ago. His passing range is the best in the world and on par with Pirlo and Alonso.
The club has struggled to find a player of his passing range since. The midfielders we gave bought or have wouldn't lace his boots.
Apart from passing sideways and to skrtel our midfielders are SCARED to pick a player ahead of them.
You need skill.

Maybe, just maybe Gerrard believes Rodgers is a great coach. And as for the "playing the game, knowing the game" stuff. I guess a bunch of guys sat around their phones/laptops are in a much better position to critique his coaching. We only see snapshots of his work, and yes on the face of it (match day, transfer and the treatment of youth) it isn't pleasant viewing. But that said, I do think there's definitely an element of mob culture against Rodgers on this board vs other forums I browse. I'm willing to bet his actual methods of coaching and general ability in that area are of the highest order (defending excluded) . Can't help but think he's been criticised for problems at the club, that stem back 25 years. No he hasn't won us a trophy, but God knows how many managers failed to win us the big one in that period.

rollanfield how do you know who everyone on this page is? Ed001 has made it clear that people who have worked in football in some capacity or another have been and possibly are on this page. Way to add validity to your argument by reducing everyone else to "a bunch of guys sat around their phones/laptops". Analysts are sat around their computers all day as far as I know. Also how do you know there are no women on this site?

On the differences between this forum vs the rest you're probably just unaccustomed to honesty, as what you get on most other forums is the club line. Quite a few are operated by people with a clear conflict of interest and you can tell because they censor anything they do not want discussed. Those go on to become taboo subjects and you end up with deluded fans and a feel good site. I assume that's why a lot of us initially came to this site.

I agree that Rodger's is being blamed for some reoccurring problems at the club, some of which do precede his time as our manager. It could be that they've just become evident to us and we reasonably expect that they would of also become evident to the club, which should of rushed to rectify them.

It's true that none of our managers has won us the PL but Rodgers has had more financial support than any of our previous managers and has absolutely nothing to show for it. Whereas even our latest interim manager allowed us to celebrate winning a cup.

I'd like him to be England manager as well. Maybe for the reason Stevie would ;-)
