I think our main problem is our midfield. We do not have a top 4 midfield on the best of days. In terms of personel our defence cpuld be one of the best in the league with the right management. And offensively we are a strong unit. The backbone is missing and that is a organised midfield with players that do different jobs, and do them well. Lucas plays the defensive role, hasn't been that great so far but that is a specific role, I do not know what emre can and Milner do, other than try to keep the ball and feed in to our outlets like coutinho. They have no specific roles. That is where the game is won and lost and at the moment we are very disorganised in this position. We had the same problem for most of last season, so nothing has improved. I think I'm the short term future that obviously Rogers will still be here and it will be patches of good results patches of deep inconsistencies but nothing to put us completely out of the race for top 4, but clearly a obvious indication of a mid table finish. I don't blame Rogers for the result yesterday per se, as the players didn't perform as a group, and only individual players played well. We should have won. However collectively, the disorganisation and the problem at the moment in terms of what is on the pitch is at the feet of Mr.Rogers. The sooner he goes the better for us.

{Ed001's Note - you think our defence is one of the best in the league, seriously?}

You cannot blame the players without Rodgers shouldering much of the same. He is the manager afterall, his team, formation,picks. He has a lot to answer for.

For me the defence includes the goalkeeper. Not absolving anyone of any responsibility, but we will never have a decent defence with Migs in goal. Nothing against him, he's just not good enough.

When you pick the best formation and the best players available for that formation and the players don't play particularly well. How can you blame the manager You can blame him for not picking the right set up or not picking the right players but there are some on here who blames him for everything and anything

I think this is the first time I have agreed with Ron!

So Mingo is the reason we don`t have a good defence? Nonsense! The reason we don`t have a good defence is because we don`t defend as a unit. Our defenders lack discipline and direction which is why they are all over the shop atimes. This has nothing to do with the GK alone. It is a team oriented problem and nothing more.

{Ed001's Note - but he is right that we will never have a decent defence while Mignolet is there.}

Seriously Red 64? First he doesn't get the personnel or formation right. 5 defenders picked against Norwich at home! Second, if it's just a matter of picking a team anyone could do it. Why is he paid millions per year? What does he do to prepare the team during training, how does he coach them? Because half the time they don't look like they have a clue how or what they're meant to be doing!

Migs is a decent shot stopper, but you need more as a keeper. His distribution has been utterly woeful from day 1 and always leads to the team being put back under pressure. He doesn't command his area and is shakey on crosses. Lastly a defence works well when the keeper is organising them. Migs is too quiet. We've changed formations, we've bought a million different defenders, but with Migs there nothing has changed.
Not scapegoating him, there are loads of problems with the team, but he's a constant weakness.

Ultimately the manager is always responsible.

We got unlucky? Get the team playing so well we don't have to rely on luck then.

The players have a lack of concentration or commitment? Well how has the manager managed to lose the whole respect of the dressing room? And if they're all bad eggs, then why is he playing them/buying them?

The players didn't play well enough and areng good enough? Again he bought them! And he doesn't have to play them!

Theres literally no excuses, he is accountable for everything.

Disagree with the OP, a midfield of Lucas, Milner, Hendo, Coutinho and Llalana is class enough to beat most sides. I do have questions over Can and Allen though. The trick is in the team setup, balance and strategy around them.

Defence on the other hand is a mess apart from Clyne.

Ron agree completely with you, I think migs won't win us many games, and can certainly do a decent job, but he's capable of losing us games from time to time and he doesn't inspire confidence.

Compare to De Gea, Lloris, Courtois and Cech and imagine one of them playing for Liverpool, would be a significant boost IMO. They're all a capable of organising a defence and making their sides seem impenetrable with good decision making and leadership from the back (as well as some outrageous saves).

I did clearly say, in terms of personel we could have one of the best denfenses in the league, only bettered by Chelsea and City. As I said, the defensive management is not there. We have not been good at defending ever since Rogers has taken over. Doesn't matter who has been there even carra looked bad at times in our set up. If you are blaming the people in defence for that I don't rate your 'opinion' at all. Read things better, then you might come to a better response.

{Ed001's Note - which personnel is that? Skrtel? Because he is nowhere near a top defender, unless he is marking one at a corner. Moreno has potential, but he is not a good defender yet. Sakho doesn't get to play often enough. Lovren is a disaster for us. Clyne is ok, but has struggled when put under pressure.}

Southamton really took us to the cleaners with lovren the bloke has never settled in. Put you a weeks wages he'll go an be a world better at another club.

21 Sep 2015 21:37:11
We have good defenders at the club, but we have a poor defence. So what does that point at. Rodgers.

Inability to mould a defensive unit.
Mignolet is terrible and will never be good enough, on a level with let sat westerweld.
Lovren has been terrible, but his confidence is blown to ship. He is continually played along side skyrtyl, who has always been a mistake waiting to happen with mugs behind him.
Different manager, who buys a decent keeper, and plays sahko next to him, then let judge.
Guys we have good players but a coach who can't coach them or even play them in position that fits them.

The buck stops with the manager especially one who's in charge of transfers, end of.
