Question to put to you all, including Eds if it tickles your fancy?!

Firstly it's reassuring that we're being linked to managers of the calibre of ancelloti and Klopp and I'll be happy with either one but going on the assumption that it is Klopp that gets the role I'm wondering does anyone else find it slightly concerning that after Mainz were relegated from the top division and he failed to get them promoted again the following season, he walked away.

Also after enjoying some amazing success with Dortmund, when the going got tough and they endured a rather torrid season when they eventually finished 7th, he again chose to walk away.

Now without knowing the full details of either event or their circumstances I appreciate this is probably a very basic way of looking at these two events but it makes me think, what if he finds the premiership to be a lot harder nut to crack than he realises? Are you concerned he'll just walk away again??

Personally would rather have a manager who doesn't feel up for it resign rather than one who hangs around past their expiration date.

The common response that you'll get is "We are Liverpool, no one walks away from Liverpool . . maybe except for Torres, Mascherano, Suarez, Sterling .
I agree with you and share the same concern, but will be happy if he gives us 2 years of success like he did with Dortmund.

e what your saying but he did what he set out to do then gave 7 years with Dortmund which by todays standards isn't so bad. I think he would be the best fit and I can see myself hoping one day that he never leaves but equally if he can get us where we should perhaps be (top 4) and winning trophies and ensuring our club is left in a strong position then I won't complain should he want a change. unless its to man utd!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair he was Dortmund's longest serving manager, and he was with Mainz as player for 12 years, the entire of his playing career, and then went on to be Mainz's longest serving manager. This suggests a fair degree of "stickability"

I thought klopp had already decided to leave the summer before he did.

As long as he wins us trophies b4 he walks away then it won't be a problem

Wouldn´t it be worse to do a Rodgers - hang around waiting to get sacked so as not to lose out on a big pay day?

06 Oct 2015 21:29:36
You could look at it that way,or you could say he was man enough to admit he'd done all he could do and not just carry on for the payoff

Maybe it's an honour thing, where he think that he's run his course there and that he can't do anything for them anymore, and there better off without him. I just think LFC always do it the hard and risky way which is why we are after klopp instead of ancelotti. I think most top people in football will tell you if you can get ancelotti do it. But klopp is also exceptional but hasn't proven anything anywhere else so again that is a risk. Everyone knows ancelotti isn't a risk, which is why a lot of the fans would prefer klopp. He would be our very own 'mouinho' whereas ancelotti will just be a better version of Benitez. I think the grass isn't always greener on the other side comes to mind. If klopp flops it will be devastating, as for ancelotti I doubt he would flop.

We don't know the particulars regarding why he chose to leave his posts at Mainz and Dortmund. You can show this in a good or bad light too.

Personally I don't think Klopp is someone who will walk away at the first sign of trouble. He was at both clubs for 7 years each and it can't have been smooth sailing all the time, so his commitment really cannot be questioned IMO.

RDL if you can't move past your Rodgers bashing even though he's already gone then there's no point in having this discussion

06 Oct 2015 23:16:38
The fact that you think my comment is Rodgers bashing is a bit rich. I guess we read into things what we want- my comment is regardless of who the manager is or isn't.

Managers aren't family members that you are stuck with. Klopp IMO, knew his time was up at these clubs after nearly a decade at each and when the signs were clear that things had gone stale, he was true to himself and honourably left. Now BVB is doing well and he's probably proud to see that the club is still doing well. You have to know when your time is up and leave with your dignity intact.

7 years is actually a real long time remember - I don't think any premiership manager has been in charge that long except for wenger if I'm correct - also seen something today that wenger has been in charge of Arsenal longer than all the other managers of their clubs put together so 7 years is down to success and commitment in my eyes

Eddie Howe is the second longest serving manager, currently in the epl.
