I'm happy to hang myself out to dry here but I must be one of the only posters who is not desperate for Mignolet to be replaced. Excellent shot-stopper, quick out of his box and knows how to give his defenders a roasting (god knows, they need it regularly). His distribution is poor and he is not commanding when the ball is crossed but a decent gk coach should be able to improve both of those issues.
For me, he has the fundamentals but needs some refining and a dose of confidence. He's no Shilton but has kept us in a few games we deserved to lose this season and I'd be happy to see him stay and improve.
I'll duck behind the table now.

Couldn't disagree more with everything. He's a good shot stopper, nothing more. Also I think the very definition of any keeper ever is to have the ability to stop the ball go into the net. At this level you need to have way more about your game, in terms of giving the defenders a roasting you'll often find that screaming is more a sign of incompetence than competence.

Well allow me to lob a grenade over the table.

I always have a real problem with goalkeepers being described as an excellent shot stopper. That's his job. It's his reflexes at times that are impressive however that all seems to be when things are quite close to him.

He has got quicker at coming out of his box but I still wouldn't be calling him the Belgium Neuer. For me he still dithers too much. I'd don't think his decision making is particularly very good.

His communication is appalling. For me he simply does not command that box. He should be inspiring confidence in his centre backs not draining them of it.

I just have a feeling with Mignloet for every worldie he makes he will concede one where you just shake your head and go "should have done better".

There is no doubt certain aspects of his game could be improved but I personally don't believe he will ever be a top goalkeeper. I would love him to prove me wrong. He certainly isn't getting any help from Achterberg though.

You don't know what he screams though, I doubt it's that useful else they may have leant by now, it looks more like 'come on.' I'm not sure how much notice they will take anyway

Ed001 has got it nailed on about Mignolet.

His analysis is exactly right IMO

He's professional football player that can't kick a football. That in itself is a disgrace in todays game.

In all seriousness your GK should be there as a reliable way out when defenders are being pressed but you can see no one wants to pass back to him unless its a last resort which just breeds panic in the defence!

Additionally he refuses to deal with crosses (blindly attempting a flailing punch doesn't count), hesitates in coming off his line, won't even command the 6 yard box let alone his whole area and has no communication skills whatsoever (shouting at people after making a save isn't communication). Simply put he's a liability not an asset

The modern keeper needs many more attributes than shot-stopping.
