Morning all,

Was wondering if Steven Caulker could be used as a deep lying mid-fielder against Utd to tackle the balls into side show bob? When we are under pressure, he could then drop into the centre half making us very hard to breakdown!

Not the Klopp way but he might come with something new for the Utd game!

{Ed002's Note - Why not, he certainly isn't needed as a centre back and Klipperty could perhaps play him out of position in order to somehow try and justify what is otherwise a waste of money on a particularly stupid loan.}

Agree2 Disagree5

16 Jan 2016 12:42:20
Well Ed fair play to you for giving the deal a chance before you put the boot in. Aren't the Eds always bitching about the fans not giving players etc a chance before getting stuck in?

{Ed001's Note - what is there to give a chance to? A player we didn't need to cover for injuries that have healed....}

16 Jan 2016 12:27:35
Don't hold back there ed002 lol

I get the feeling you'd rather seem someone at the club get a chance before any more loans are brought in.

Anyhow, Klopp is going to use him as a reserve centre forward for when we throw the ball into the mixer lol.

{Ed002's Note - It was a really dumb move - throwing money away when there was no need for the player. If the club was that keen they could have done something with a target who would be an improvement for the club. I appreciate the club did not have the money available to do taht but then you simply make do until folks are fit.}

16 Jan 2016 12:31:48
As if Jurgen Klopp needs to justify anything. He was brought in because we have a lot of games in short space of time and most of our cbs are injured or unable to play every game due to ongoing niggles.
I'd say just his cameo role against Arsenal proved enough.
Don't get why you think you know better than the manager of Liverpool?
Sure Klopp is devastated you think his signing is stupid. haha 🙈.

16 Jan 2016 12:33:12
Saucer of milk for Ed002 😄.

{Ed002's Note - So you think pissing away money the club doesn't have on a player the club doesn't need is good business?}

16 Jan 2016 13:01:20
No I don't but then I'm not in a position to judge what the club needs. Klopp obviously thought we needed cover and I'm not going to argue with that.
It's a loan deal he'll be gone in the summer.

{Ed002's Note - So Klipperty was wrong and he made an expensive mistake.}

16 Jan 2016 13:05:02
Unless Sakho is on the move/ loan away Ed.

{Ed002's Note - The club know that the interest in Sakho has gone for now.}

16 Jan 2016 13:11:58
Maybe? Time will tell. If we get 3 injuries tomorrow to defenders it could be a good move.
My personal opinion is Klopp does not have the opportunity to do any good transfer business in this window. We have a bloated squad, too many mediocre players who will never fit in Klopp's plans.
But money is tight, too much was wasted in the last 18 months. Clubs are not very willing to sell in January and players are cup-tied. No-one wants to sign our unwanted players.
There will be movement in the summer but for now we have to make to with loan deals to provide cover for injuries/ fitness.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has a vastly bloated first team squad with more than 40 players to chose from after bring folks back from loan. Then they could dip in to the under 21s if needs be. It smacks of incompetence.}

16 Jan 2016 13:22:31
Ed, your opinion is valid but only to a point. Klopp may have felt we needed cover so as to allow for the injured CB's enuff time to heal and not have to rush them back. He'd had mentioned that Sahko wasn't fully fit at the time and wasn't sure Kolo would be fit after he had cramps vs the Saints. He didn't wanna take chances and was defo not going to play Enrique, Ilori or Lucas at CB. I don't fully agree with the move but understand why he did it. We will get our CB in the summer. Until then, everyone should just calm down and stop with the petulant bickering.

{Ed002's Note - So Klipperty got it wrong and screwed up. I am not denying that.}

16 Jan 2016 13:37:26
Eds 02- I completely agree. The Arsenal game proved it. That was going to be the game we would struggle inot when you look at the injuries. After that the players where slowly going to come back. Caulker only featured for the last few minutes and that was as a makeshift centre forward, that's how needed he was. I don't get that fans say we loaned him because he was cheap! Wouldn't of saved more money not having more unnecessary wages to pay? This will run into the millions. How did Flanno get his break? Oh yes, through injuries to first reamers. That's the way it goes. Besides the fact that it makes a mockery of recalling all the loaned players if your just going to get another player in.

16 Jan 2016 13:52:06
We need cover until Matip arrives. Its not about having bo money.

{Ed002's Note - Clubs do not get cover for players who are not at the club. The club is run but incompetents, but they are not that stupid. Who do you think Liverpool should buy as cover for Wayne Rooney?}

16 Jan 2016 14:17:00
Well God forbid the manager we all dreamed of getting 2ould be allowed manage and make the changes he thinks are right.
Would be different if we had great CBs coming back from injury but they haven't set the world alight especially on set pieces. Maybe our new manager wants to try someone he thinks can do better and is willing to take a chance especially as he got that player on loan. I'd give Klopp the benefit as he's a better manager than most of us on here.

{Ed002's Note - Not by the evidence we have seen so far. And if Klipperty thinks Caulker is the Messiah perhaps he should have played him when he had the opportunity against Arsenal. Thinking about it, perhaps Klipperty is giving Caulker 6 months to settle in before starting him.}

16 Jan 2016 14:17:09
We know that Matip is a likely replacement for Toure in the summer on a free.
Could it be that we are looking to move on another CB (Skrtel or Lovren? ) and Caulker is on a 6 month trial (loan) then we end up with 4 CB of
Matip
Sakho
Lovren
Caulker
I personally would take that. I know its costing us a bit of money in paying Caulkers wages but would cost us far less than the current clamering for spending 20+mill (that lfc haven't got) on a CB.
For me I would give Caulker a chance we have given far worse a chance.
On a wider point think there will be more activity in the summer outbound, but fewer coming in but what we do buy will be quality to raise the level of the team.

{Ed002's Note - Matip is far from "free". Caulker is not on a trial, he is on a loan, there is no "to buy" option which there would be if he is on a "trial". It is more than simply his wages Liverpool are paying.

I suspect that there are betters ways to spend your day than looking for excuses for Klipperty screwing up.}

16 Jan 2016 14:20:29
It does seem a strange signing, and it is one I think Klopp got wrong personally. He may come in handy with 2 of our CBs being so injury prone but pointless having brought back Ilori regardless of his match fitness.

16 Jan 2016 14:29:14
I don't think anyone can judge whether it was a waste of money yet. If he ends up playing because he's needed and helps us win games then it was a cheap option to solve a potential issue. If he barely gets a sniff of the first team by the time the loan expires then it would be a waste but for the sake of 6 months wages and a small fee it's hardly going to be the deal which sends us bankrupt.

16 Jan 2016 14:44:35
Klopp himself saif that premier league experience and aerial ability was key. As such, was there a much better option for less ir no money without compromising the midfield, i. e using Can? No, don't think so. Let the lad play before calling him a waste of money.

16 Jan 2016 15:02:26
I agree with Swish.

Anyway, Caulker is not the Messiah, we all know Ilori is 😇.

16 Jan 2016 15:11:43
Ed Are we buying Rooney in the summer?

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware., But he is one of many players not at the club. The suggestion that Liverpool are taking players on loan as cover for those not at the club is completely preposterous.}

16 Jan 2016 15:25:54
Maybe I should have been more specific. In my opinion we signed Caulker as cover "for our current centre backs" until Matip arrives in the summer. Sakho and Lovren get injured a bit, Ilori and Toure aren't any better than Caulker in my opinion.

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing whatsoever to do with Matip and the club had already paid to take Ilori back from loan to do that.}

16 Jan 2016 15:25:29
Was it a waste of money Chelsea taking Falcoa on loan?

{Ed002's Note - Brilliant, this is exactly the sort of cretinous post that does indeed make so many Liverpool fans a laughing stock. It is cringe worthy and embarrassing to yet again see someone bring Chelsea in to this. Even the Manchester United fans who can read will see this as absolutely hopeless.}

16 Jan 2016 15:34:54
So presumably he thinks Ilori is not good enough? I think he had to be brought back as he was rotting away in Villa.

{Ed002's Note - Well he should have known that in advance and saved the club the money to buy him out of the Aston Villa deal.}

16 Jan 2016 15:47:15
How would he know in advance as Ilori was loaned before Klopp cane in. And its not like he could watch how he was playing at Villa.

{Ed002's Note - He has a vast organization of staff around him to provide such information - or are they also not up to it.}

16 Jan 2016 15:51:59
The lad has not played for Villa all season so are the vast organization of staff meant to go to the Aston Villa training ground to watch him?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, that is what other clubs do. I appreciate Liverpool is poorly run in respect of dealing with players on loan, but other clubs are on top of and completely aware what is going on.}

16 Jan 2016 15:57:16
Has caulker done something wrong to you ed2? Sorry but your well out of order.

{Ed002's Note - What is "out of order" about explaining he is not needed at the club. Suddenly this centre back who can't get a game with a championship side is loaned out to a Premier League side and can't get a game with them either is the savior of Liverpool? Great stuff - scraping the barrel and you think it is a good job. Liverpool should be looking to move the squad forward improving it as they go. I don't think they are doing that - but I am surprised you think they are and I am "out of order".

16 Jan 2016 16:12:07
He can play in the championship but they don't want to pay such high wages.

{Ed001's Note - is he good enough to get in the team down there anyway?}

16 Jan 2016 16:22:31
I presume so. We will know how good he really is soon.

{Ed001's Note - well he was crap for Spurs, crap for Swansea, crap for QPR and far worse for Southampton, I think we already know how 'good' he really is to be honest. We just have to hope that Klopp can improve him.}

16 Jan 2016 16:01:26
Fair enough lol.

16 Jan 2016 16:31:12
Hi eds getting away from the caulker mistake how good is matip I've never really seen him play and just wondered if he's an improvement on the current cbs we have? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - He is a good, cheap replacement for Toure - no longer the first pick at Schalke but certainly in the reckoning. He is good in the air but If he is to be first choice then I would not be confident. Apparently over his temptation to dribble out of trouble.}

16 Jan 2016 17:39:02
Klopp did say that Mama was highly unlikely to play 3 games in a row for the rest of the season. Seems like he'll need some kind of operation in the summer. Lovren injured, Toure on his last legs. Hence the need for Ilori and Caulker.

{Ed002's Note - Might need an operation in the summer, on his last legs - pitiful.}
