I personally think we should sort our defence out. Buy Cahill and Matip (matip is a versatile player so can be played as a FB and cdm, welcome addition in my book.

If you have watched him, Matip is an average player and nothing more. He severely lacks pace and I am doubtful he would adapt to the physicality and pace in England.

Perfect for a Liverpool team that can compete with the big boys then transition.

Fat Cat

We are bringing players to cover for Toure, when our first choice defenders are conceding plenty. Cahill seriously? What have we learned from Milner?
I would rather give Wisdom a chance than Cahill.

Matip and Cahill would not stop the flow of goals, I could guarantee that.

Could very well be Hummels come summer.

Personally i don't think Matip is going to be the saviour to our back 4 issues. I don't think he is that good.

Pace as a CB does not dictate whether you're good or average. It can be be a handy trait to have but if you read the game well and know where to position yourself (a la hyppia) you'll do just fine.

I agree with that point 87 Red. But Pace would defo decide what system would your manager play. If your defenders lack pace then you would end up like Per Mertesacker.

I agree with your point 87red. The great Sami Hyypia lacked pace but one of the best centre halves we have ever had. I don't think Matip is any where close to big Sami tho.

I think Cahill would be a huge mistake, he's only just signed a contract on huge wages (am I right eds? ), would cost a massive transfer fee and frankly there are better defenders out there who are younger than Cahill who is now 30 and only really has a few good years left in him.

Cahill? No thanks. Hyppia played in a Ged defence that defended deep so did not need pace albeit he's one of the best CB's in the club's history. Matip is coming in to replace Toure and maybe Skrtel as Ilori may be given his chance. Matip is not the savior neither is Ilori. However, Matip is very experienced for his age with CL and World Cup games under his belt. He has decent pace, dominates in the air and is good at attacking set pieces due to him being a former striker. I would take him over Toure, Skrtel n Caulker, any day.

Transition, you clearly have not seen Matip play if you think he lacks pace. He's actually very quick for a CB.

Fornax, it's Harry. He just makes statements that defy reality, atimes. Anyone who's seen Matip play knows pace is not a prob for him.
