One for Ed01 if you are about mate. Given Bodgers recent comments That he tried to sign Ashley Williams for us, I just wanted to know what your opinion of him as a player is, and why he has never been picked up by a "bigger" club? In my opinion he possesses many of the attributes we are currently lacking from our defenders, such as leadership, organisation, Ariel ability and consistency.
This than made me think about the summer, and who we could bring in, but I was really struggling to think of any Centre backs that would be both attainable, and improve our squad. It really does seem that defenders now days need to be quick, good on the ball and read the game well, with the basics of defending almost being a secondary thought. Players such as Terry, Carra, Vidic and Campbell are becoming a dying bread ( Not saying those players are bad on the ball or anything, but they were / are defenders first and foremost) . The one player who stands out to me as being more of the "old School" style defender, whilst still being good on the ball and nimble, is Kamil Glik, but I know Ed02 has said we hold no interest and is happy where he is. Who would you like us to bring in Ed01?

{Ed001's Note - I am not a fan of Williams, he is a very average player who struggles when under pressure as he showed this season. Fine when his team is dominating possession but not so good when actually required to do anything. He is big, strong and quick, but that is all for me. He has gone nowhere else because there has been very little real interest, even we were only interested in him as a cheap option really. No one was going to spend big on him.
Bring in? I have not seen anyone worth bringing in, I would rather we worked on developing what we have, unless the scouts have found someone I haven't seen.}

Ed001 - what's your views on Shawcross?
For me we need a commanding centre-back with good communication skills. Shawcross to me seems like a good fit. His overall game seems to have evolved over the last 12 - 18 months and to me he would be a straight replacement for Skrtel.
{Ed001's Note - god no, just a cumbersome thug who plays in a team of them. Yes he is the best cumbersome thug out there, but that is all. He still can't pass or play actual football.}

😄 others got there before me on the Live Chat the other night.
We already have Grujic coming in, hopefully Markovic coming back and possibly Matip. We probably do need some more talent but I'd rather see our coaches get the most out of what we've already got first.
