Myself and a work colleague (Decent Utd supporter) were talking among ourselves about when is a good age to start going to games with the family, we both have one boy. Is five to young?

But which team do you choose? ;o)

And you have to ask? Check out the family picture.

{Ed033's Note - Aren't all United supporters decent?

Wait until he asks to go would be my guess.

Depends on many factors mate. Take them once and see how they like it. I took my son just before he was two years old and he loved it.
I recall my dad taking my brother (who is 10 years younger than me) and he was a bit scared until he got older (8, 9 ish) .
I went in 1975 aged 7 Merseyside Derby first game and was hooked instantly, on the Kop huge crowd but never felt intimidated. Went home with a flag and as we left early on 85 mins with the score 0-0, we were walking down the back Kop steps, me waving my flag the most enormous roar erupted and the ground shook, David Fairclough super sub had scored the winner. Wow the noise was incredible, I was excited and dad gutted we missed the goal. It was probably just as well though as I spent the whole game on his shoulders and we'd have been knocked flying.
Still remember it vividly, that's when it all began for me. Take the little koppite mate and cherish the special day with him. Fantastic to hear about the next generation and reminisce, hope he loves it too.

Got me all emotional that so I YouTube'd the goal, it was actually 3rd April 1976, just before my 8th birthday. Didn't realise what a great goal it was as TV footage was scarce then, he picked it up from the half way line and rode about 4 tackles, brilliant goal!
Just looked up also that the previous 4 derbies had all been 0-0, no wonder my dad was gutted to miss the goal, 89th minute and he'd taken me out to avoid the crush at the end. 40 years later bit better late than never, I'm sorry about that dad :-)

So out of curiosity are the matches full of drunk jerk who can't respect the fact that you have your kids with you. Yelling all kinds of obscenities. I'm describing NFL football. I took my 2 and 1 year olds last year and am happy they won't remember it. I will not take them to anything other than a baseball or Orlando City FC game. There are family sections. Anfield is out the question for now.

Deadly thanks for the memories mate. I can't wait till I get him over for a game.

12 Feb 2016 06:59:22
Are you sure you want to do it to him? Football can be a painful hobby, especially if you are an LFC supporter.

Im in the same boat with this. I have a 4 year old who I want to take.
It may seem wrong but I might take him to a few Wigan Athletic games first. Cheaper tickets and not quite as loud. Might be an easier way to break him in for the remainder of this season before taking him on a pilgrimage to the only church I ever attend, Anfield.

Ed33 all United fans are great :)

Took my six yr old lad to Rubin this season, was his first. Game was crap but he loved it and will always remember it, as will I. Just take him.

Anfield Andy, good shout mate. I went to Tranmere in the old 4th division on a Friday night from 5 years old, got me into football nicely. Hit Bovril and a packed cow shed! In those days at half time you could walk around and stand behind the opposite goal so you saw Rovers attack both halves, how cool was that?
I LOVE football, dad you legend for taking me so young.

I agree with Chris and Ed, we're the salt of the earth types, right guys, right? 😉.

I get the impression people don't agree WRD.
I always considered pool fans knowledgeable too.
:)
