Am I right in saying that this is probably just Southampton trying to save their reputation. Also does this mean that the transfer will still go through?

I think they wanted to start a bidding war.
For one reason or another VVD won't entertain moving to anywhere else.
Innocent until proven guilty. Reported to the Premier League is no proof of guilt.

More likely they are doing it to strengthen their bargaining position. Now that he has stated he wants lfc there is no bidding war. However, whether permission was implied or not the onus was on lfc to check. Its so amateurish its laughable. So that's that transfer gone and potentially more if this nonsense keeps on happening.

Graeme Kelly thinks its just a ploy by Saints to appease their fans and of course they will be p****d that VVD made his choice of club point blank clear which prevented a bidding war. We will get VVD, a lot of reliable sources say so and I believe them. LFC want VVD, VVD wants LFC and I do not see Saints having anything that can stop the inevitable happening.
