Apologies, I'm sure there's been enough VVD talk already.
But, if you can ignore some of the sensational reporting and hysteria, I think the only unusual thing here is the LFC statement. Sure, Liverpool were worried about any ramifications if S'ton took things further as they have a dodgy record in this regard lately, but this goes on in almost every transfer surely? I'm not saying it's right and clearly there are things at the club that need sorting, but some of what I'm reading is laughable. Sack Klopp, we're a laughing stock etc.
Maybe we didn't want to pay the price and didn't want to be hammered by the fans. Maybe the club thought this was a wise way out but maybe didn't see things quite going as they have. If this was a lower profile club the story would barely last a day.
I know most of the Ed's have slammed this whole episode and I can understand to some extent, but it just seems a bit much. Just my possibly ill-informed opinion.

{Ed002's Note - No it doesn't go on in every transfer.}

Can a club ask an agent of the player may be interested before Making official contact? Or is it persmission to speak to before anything?

{Ed002's Note - Clubs can talk to agents about anything they wish - and do.}

So you telling me ed when Lukaku was talking to the head of Chelsea transfer person that's normal. It happened in the tunnel 🤔.

{Ed002's Note - They know each other. That is not an illegal approach for a player, you are making yourself look very stupid indeed.}

I said this surely goes on in almost every transfer. Okay, maybe not to this degree fair enough, but I've seen a number of ex players saying this is common and they can't understand why Liverpool released a statement.

{Ed002's Note - This doesn't go on "in almost every" transfer. The former players are idiots if they are surprised that the club have yet again trailed slime to try to avoid a charge.}

Clubs and their reps can talk to players agents as much as they want, enquiring as to players thoughts regarding a move, potential availability etc, but in order to converse regarding a move directly with a player can only be allowed given the owning clubs consent. They can give permission whenever they wish but it is usually either after conclusion of or during the transfer negotiations. That's why you sometime read that personal terms have been agreed before a fee, add-ons etc. Now from what we'v heard VVD's agent approached Liverpool, along with other clubs, and Klopp spoke directly with VVD convincing him we were the club for him-this was the crucial rule breaking point, despite him approaching us it doesn't matter. This was then obviously leaked, maybe by ourselves thinking it would press Southampton into selling, had foundation and they Got annoyed which I see as fair enough and we've had to pull out and apologise. Embarrassing at best. I do think this sort of thing happens often but we're stupid enough to get caught.
Have I got that right-ish eds?

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure that his agent approached Liverpool but certainly other clubs approached Southampton. And it is far from common that clubs make illegal approaches for players.}

To be fair, this has been going for years and not just with Liverpool

I remember as far back as 1989 when Paul Ince was seen wearing a united shirt before the deal was done.

Much to the dismay of the ICF.

I don't really care how other clubs behave.

I just care that we've conducted our business so amateurishly and unscrupulously. Again.

Just have some bloody integrity and intelligence.

Cringe factor 10.
