If someone would have told you 4 years ago (when Klopp signed) that we'd have won the champions league and would be the best team in Europe who could have believed that? It is a far stretch for even the most positive of fans.

What has happened to our club in a short space of time is incredible and long may it continue. All those involved have played their part in those 4 years from the owners, manager, management team, players and other staff.
Winning the league this season would cap a brilliant few years. Plus it would prove to me that Klopp is a better manager than Pep. We are so lucky to have him.

Alex Ferguson, didn't he say at the time he was worried about us getting Klopp 🙂.

Klopp is a better manager than pep. All day.

{Ed025's Note - thats subjective robbie, if it goes on things won pep is miles better mate..so what are you basing that on?..

As Pep built a team?

{Ed025's Note - has any manager MR?, a lot of even klopps team he inherited, its a progressional thing mate..

ED25 - I'd say Klopp is better if we win the league this season. That is because he took over a club in 8th position with some bog standard players. He has obviously had cash to spend but nothing like the resources City have spent in the same period. And Klopp has had to sell players at the same time whereas Pep has only sold because he wanted to.
Pep is one hell of a manager, they play amazing football and there isn't much in it but the jump in quality and results has been higher at LFC than City.

{Ed025's Note - as i say brommers its how you look at it, peps trophy haul is second to none but i love klopps enthusiasm and charisma and he has worked miracles at liverpool mate..

Ed25, I take your point. Pep was born with a managerial silver spoon in his mouth cos he inherited a Barcelona team that was supremely talented and 2 years removed from beating Arsenal in the CL final 2 years before. That team was brilliant and Xavi, Iniesta, Henry, Eto'o and a rising Messi were all in that team. That was in 2008.

Klopp on the other hand took over a penniless (compared to their rivals) Mainz and got them promoted to the Bundesliga, something they should not have been able to achieve based on the club's standing back then.

While Pep took over a brilliant Barcelona team in 2008, Klopp took over AGAIN, a cash-strapped BVB who had finished 13th the season before. We all know what BVB would later become after that. Pep then went to the best club in Germany (also with the most money and the best players in the league) and Klopp could not challenge Bayern anymore as they were poaching his players. Pep wa spoaching Klopp's players. Think about that.

Then, Pep takes over an immensely expensive City squad while Klopp took over a crap LFC team with players down on their luck and we know the rest. Pep is brilliant, no doubt BUT if KLopp wins the PL this season against Pep, it will then be clear that Klopp is the better manager hands down, IMO. Why? Simple. Klopp started 25 points behind Pepp and by then, he would have left him in the dirt should he win the PL. We shall see.

{Ed025's Note - its a tough one to call RM, as you know im a massive klopp fan but most people would judge them on trophies won and pep romps it if we go by that, we do have to get away from the pep can only do it with money thing though mate, fact is that VVD, alisson and keita cost more than any player pep has ever bought, so people in glass houses and all that..

11 points ed025 and a cl trophy. Klopp won the coach of the year. Its subjective true and its my opinion. When klopp first came his tactics that got us competing against the top teams. It was class. And he's showed he can handle a top team with some of the world's best players.

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that robbie..

Ed25, I fully agree with you there. However, this is why I try not to use trophies to compare managers cos well, context matters. It's like using stats. they don't always tell the whole story, as they say. Here's an example. Luis Enrique (a pretty mediocre manager who had failed at Roma and Celta after leaving the Barcelona youth setup), just like Pep did in 2008 took over Barcelona in 2014 after a dreadful season. He still had Xavi, Iniesta Messi and Neymar in the team. He then signed Suarez and Rakitic as well.

What did Enrique achieve that 1st season? He won the treble and won 5 trophies in that calendar year 2015, just like Pep did after his first season. Do you see anyone with functioning brain saying LE and Pep are at the same level? That would be a no. If anyone said LE was better than Klopp as a manager based on his trophy haul alone, you'll be the running joke at the local pub. Btw, Klopp has * major trophies on his CV which is nothing to sneeze at, IMO but that is a side note.

So what am I saying? Trophy hauls do not tell the whole story of who is better between two managers. So for me, the best way to compare two managers is to judge them based on how they improve their players and teams, what is the trajectory of the team during their tenure (is it trending up, down or stagnant), Where did the manager find the team and in what state did he leave them and on these levels, Klopp is hands down the better manager, IMO. The facts are undisputed.

{Ed025's Note - thats just using stats to promote your own agenda RM, i get it of course because your a red and want the best for your club, but to me its a bit like my dad can fight your dad in the school playground mate, at this moment in time pep will be seen by neutrals as the better coach/manager, but who knows if klopp maintains the progress he has been making and hauls in a load of trophies he could well end up the better man..

22 Dec 2019 21:57:06
Ed25, did you even read what I wrote? I literally said that using trophy hauls to judge a manager is not the best way IMO, cos like using stats, it does not tell the whole story. Yet you accuse me of "using stats" to support my point. Good grief! How did you miss that? Nowhere did I use stats to say that Klopp was better than Pep.

I specifically used other factors like this "judge them based on how they improve their players and teams, what is the trajectory of the team during their tenure (is it trending up, down or stagnant), Where did the manager find the team and in what state did he leave them". Did you even read what I posted, man?

Either way like I said if Klopp wins the PL, he would have validated his status as the best manager over Pep IMO cos as I said, Pep had 25 points advantage over Klopp 3 years ago. Should he win the PL, he would have not just caught up with Pep's team BUT left Pep in his wake. Just my opinion supported by facts and figures.

{Ed025's Note - ok then using figures...its the same difference, it suits your agenda to not use stats on this occasion, all you waffle on about there is speculation and conjecture based on your opinion and thats fine by me, but i am not going to tell you either that everton are a more successful team in the league than liverpool, because liverpool have won more titles than us...do you see where im going?..

I'd argue that Klopp has done more with what he inherited than Pep has done with City. Pep has a fantastic record, but the side he inherited was in a much better place than Liverpool. I'm not ready to say that Klopp is a better manager, but he has done more with less in my opinion.
