Just been contemplating this myself, wondering what the squad could look like by the end of the summer window. Call me fanciful but i’m very optimistic we’ll sign Bellingham and tie Salah down to a new contract. I think the squad could end up looking like this:

Alisson (Kelleher)
Alexander-Arnold (Williams)
Konate (Matip)
van Dijk (Gomez)
Robertson (Tsimikas)
Fabinho (Henderson)
Bellingham (Jones)
Thiago (Elliott)
Salah (Gordon)
Jota (Firmino)
Diaz (Carvalho)

Outs: Mane, Origi, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Phillips, Minamino, Milner, Adrian, Karius

Like i say call me deluded but i really do think that’s a realistic permutation of the squad in the near future!

Aw and some squad that would be. For me I think Gordon has a long way to go to be a first team player.

Bobby is our 4th joint highest paid player and Mane is our 10th. Unless Bobby is happy to take a pay cut I don’t really see why we would extend his contract to be a back up player and not increase Manes despite him still producing good numbers on the pitch. And I know the answer is he has a higher sell on value but to sell Mane for 30 mill we’re going to have competitors biting our hands off to take him at that price.

Risky to possibly strengthen a rival and weaken us at that price. For me Mane gets into City, Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal, Spurs etc side or Mach today squad week in week out.

3 of the 6 forwards are unproven in the premier league.

With regards to Bellingham I think the reason we wouldn’t sign him is because his transfer will be an auction. And City and Chelsea will be involved in that and we aren’t outbidding them, regardless of where the player wants to go Dortmund have to accept any bid initially.

30 Jan 2022 17:58:51
Agreed JK. Really don’t get this clamour to get rid of mane. If he decides he doesn’t want to stay then fair enough but until then we should be keeping him at all costs. Not what he was but still the best LW in the league for me and I still believe he can bounce back.

Bellingham looks great but can’t see how we’ll be able to afford him. We do need a dm to come in for me. Hendo doesn’t seem capable of playing it and Thiago (though not a traditional DM) can’t be trusted to start majority of the league games. Bissouma would be great obviously.

30 Jan 2022 18:19:20
I’d prefer us to go for Bissouma at this stage over Bellingham, just because he’s tactically more adept and he’s far more disciplined in how he plays, so he can function in either the pressing role or a defensive midfielder if Fabinho isn’t there. He’s a stand out player at Brighton and he’s extremely hard to play against. Plus at this stage I’d imagine Dortmund would want stupid money to part with Bellingham that would put him out of our reach.

{Ed0666's Note - shame his discipline doesent extend off the pitch

30 Jan 2022 18:59:26
Bissouma would have been great if only he didn’t seem to be a bit of an arse. The rumours surrounding him could be unfounded but we’ve been here once before with Naby and i think it’s maybe best we stay away. If he can be cleared of wrongdoing and the staff at Liverpool are convinced his attitude can change then maybe, but I am not.

30 Jan 2022 18:40:24
Ed66, I read months back there were some charges against him but then read that may have been a mistake. Do we know what he’s meant to have done and if he’s still under investigation?

{Ed0666's Note - no idea but I hope he’s innocent as no one likes to see people in trouble with the law

30 Jan 2022 19:24:57
Alrite JK. I can’t see City going for Bellingham he gets no where near starting in their midfield for me. KDB and Silva are way ahead.

Not sure he gets in Chelsea’s midfield either.

30 Jan 2022 19:52:08
I agree, JK. Those who think Mane will leave just cos Diaz is here need to think again. Footie does not work that way. Klopp may decide to keep him for the final year of his deal and let him walk for services rendered or even extend his contract for another couple of years if possible and on reduced terms and if Mane agrees, why not? We have to see what happens.

30 Jan 2022 20:26:29
Think Bellingham gets in the middle of any team that buys him, at his age he's going to be improving greatly every year and he's already superb. Certainly starts straight away for us if we were to get him. And if the lad actually fancies playing for us then we have a chance.

30 Jan 2022 21:02:30
He is not suited to the holding role so who does he replace at City Jadon? Chelsea bossed both games against us from a midfield point of view. Bellingham would be a great signing for us no doubt and he can go on to be a true great but for me he wouldn’t get the game time needed at City.

30 Jan 2022 21:07:01
And what has Bellingham done exactly? Young raw talent at a terrible league for me. not saying he won't cut it in prem, but its a complete different ball game to the bundesliga. As for saying he gets in any midfield who buys him is ridiculous mate. I'd take bissouma over him anyday. and probably at half the price if that.

30 Jan 2022 21:22:08
@markp08. grealish dosent fit or get into there squad but they still forked out 100m for him?

30 Jan 2022 21:29:46
Four of our seven homegrown players - Milner, Ox, Gomez and Phillips- are regularly in the departure rumours. Just for that reason alone, I would go for Bellingham before Bissouma. And then there is the big bonus - I think Bellingham^s potential and upside is far greater than Bissouma's. There's a differrance in cost obviously, but then if you want to eat at the big boys' table, you better have the wallet for it.

30 Jan 2022 22:11:55
Since when do City worry if a player will get into their team before spending? They have an open chequebook they can afford to make expensive mistakes.
As for Chelsea bossing our midfield you must’ve watched those games with your eyes closed.

30 Jan 2022 22:14:37
@ArAy, like I said a while back, the club seem happy to pay the cost if they actually want someone.

What they won’t pay is massive amounts for squad players who are going to get limited game time. If we pay big money it is for a player who will be a regular in our starting eleven.

If we keep two of Thiago, Kieta, Millie and Ox (and I think we will), we will have Fabs, Hendo, Billy, Curtis, two of the above, young Morton coming through and perhaps one more of the youngsters coming through which will be enough for 22 / 23. But I’d love us to go for Bellingham in the summer of 23 when Thiago, Hendo and perhaps Fabs do not get as much game time.

30 Jan 2022 22:28:39
Very true Let. But I doubt even City would do it again. Bellingham will surely go somewhere to play. He seems like a step up in personality to Grelish.

30 Jan 2022 22:41:40
Hey up mark. It’s an interesting debate mate and one that only time will tell. If Bellingham is as good as people say he is then I very much expect City, Utd and Chelsea to be at the bidding table along with many others.
