He's criminally under rated. His runs from deep force teams out of shape trying to close him down. Leeds had no answer for him yesterday. And when Virgil played Alisson in to trouble, Matip was there to mop up and prevent James having a tap in.

For me he is comfortably our 2nd best centre back. Konate and Gomez have a long way to go before they force him out the team despite being decent for their relatively young ages. I just pray Matip stays fit as that's held him back from reaching his potential alongside Virgil. His 21 league appearances this season are 2 more than he managed in the last couple of seasons combined (10 and 9).

So whilst i'd love him to stay, we also have to be sensible because of his age and injury record. As in, don't just throw money at him. An incentive/ bonus based contract would be more sensible as he moves into his 30's.

Did you see the disallowed Leeds goal @MK? Matip charging high up trying to poke Daniel James who fooled him with a nice flick and then he ran at Allison while Matip crawling back to outrace James. Embarrassing.
He is easily one of the most overrated player I have ever seen.
He is Positionally crap and has no pace to play a high line. Period.

I agree MK Matip is one of the most underrated players in the league even by his own fans sometimes.
I hear people rave about Diaz, Laporte or Rudiger but Matip is never mentioned in the same class when he holds down a place in one of the best defences in Europe. Baffling.
VVD is immense we know that but he doesn’t do it all on his own with a 3 legged donkey next to him.

I will add to my last comment too. I’m sick of hearing how much we missed VVD last season and it cost us 6 defeats at home etc etc.
In actual fact we were top of the league at the end of December and had just smashed Palace 7-0 without VVD since October and without Gomez from 2 weeks after VVD got injured.
Matip got injured against West Brom and that started our free fall.
Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Matip is Klopp's first choice alongside VVD. I like Matip but I know he has flaws. Klopp continues to give Keita chances but I know he has flaws.
I realise that Klopp knows what he is doing, let him get on with it and get behind the team. Flaws and all.
Klopp is doing his job brilliantly despite our flaws.
The search for perfection is futile and the tenure of Jurgen Norbert Klopp has been wonderful.
Leave him to it and enjoy it while it lasts.

Matip was our best defender for the first half of the season. Virgil getting his stride again. Horses for courses. Konate doesn't deal well with runners off the shoulder or in behind. Matip gets lost in the 10's. Gereat options to have either way when you include gomez. Best overall defence we have had in a long long time.
