Ed. Jumping on the wagon of ex players. How do you rate Bruce Grobelaar as a goalkeeper? Obviously famously known for spaghetti legs and supposed match fixing but as a goalie was he any good?

{Ed001's Note - he was brilliant, though a little erratic. He commanded the box and swept up outside it too. Grobs was incredibly acrobatic and would get to things no other keeper could. One thing that particularly stands out is how good he was with his feet, mainly because watching Migs play reminds me just how far we have fallen since Grobs. Souness said of him that he always wanted to play up front and they would have to keep reminding him to stay in goal.

The other main difference between him and a modern day keeper is organisational skills. In those days the keeper organised the defence on set pieces. Grobs was excellent at that aspect of the game. These days players have 20minutes of powerpoint presentations to set up their marking on deadballs - far better to let the keeper sort it. Players are too thick to follow the complicated instructions they get these days.}

Cheers Ed.
personally I don't believe it, do you think there is anything to the supposed match fixing allegations against him?

Would he be your number one for a all time 11 Ed?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, I only met him as a kid, so I was overawed and he always seemed a nice guy with a genuine passion for the club. It is difficult to believe he would do anything to risk his career like that.

Clemence would be my number one, just.}

My view is. Apparently he would determine results by conceding a set amount of goals and teams would lose by set amount. Near on impossible as who is to say that more wouldn't of gone in or if the strikers was to score more to win the match.

Clemence must of been some keeper to keep Bruce out after that info on him!

Got me brain thinking Ed. Have you ever done your best Liverpool 11 for us fans to see?

{Ed001's Note - not yet mate, it is on my to do list. I was hoping to get it done over the international break. I have just been busy sorting out visas etc the last couple of weeks so not had a chance.}

I like the idea of an all time 11 and me and my mates regularly try to come up with ours over a few pints. I always find it difficult as Souness and Kenny always make my team. Problem is by time I started going the game Souness was elsewhere and Kenny barely ever played. All I have is highlights and my dad's opinions to go off regards to them 2.

Never forget the bandy he had with Steve mcmanaman certainlly commanded his box that day, no one dare go near him!

No doubt in my mind Clemence all day long the better keeper and without the lunacy as well. Grobelaar made some crazy crazy decisions which at the time you couldn't understand why he did them which when the allegations come out you thought oh no was this the reason, I would like to think it wasn't true but the secretly recorded meeting was hard to explain.
By the way he wasn't always a nice guy off the pitch, I remember after travelling home from a long distance away night game (might have been Norwich or Ipswich ) we bumped into him in a late, (around 5am ) club in town and let's just say it was one of those don't meet your hero's situations. It wasn't the only time I had met him and was disappointed to be honest.

Someone pointed him out once in a pub after I'd had a few. I thought they were joking so went up and said 'my mate just said you were Bruce Grobelaar. if you're Bruce then I'm Tom Cruise'. he just stuck out his hand and said 'nice to meet you Tom, I'm a great fan'. Spent the next half hour having beers with us, a genuinely nice guy.

{Ed003's Note - Nice one :) }

I personally don't believe bruce took a bung, but being a goalkeeper does give you scope in that area, as how does any one prove you let 1 in on purpose? i'm not going to question mignolets integrity I just put him down as a poor goalkeeper, having said that he would be perfect material to take bungs as we wouldn't notice which ones he let's in on purpose.
