good evening eds, a quick one if you may bearing his goals and assists in mind and every other thing he offers, do u consider wijnaldum to be a squad player at best or good enough to even be a starter next season? thanks in advance.

{Ed025's Note - its all about opinions tobi, for me being neutral i see him as a squad player mate but maybe ED001 who is a red may see it differently, if you direct you question to him specifically im sure he will give you his view..

Agree0 Disagree0

Can hardly believe you are asking this question. He's a starter no problem. He has done a very good job in the main this season; a real missing piece of the jigsaw. Maybe even this generation's Ray Kennedy, and from me that is praise indeed.

{Ed025's Note - your setting the bar very high there ND, ray kennedy was a fantastic player and i dont think wiji has done anything yet to be compared to the great man yet mate..

Imo, I think he's learning a new role, last season he was very much an attacking mid and was a main option and relied on to score as well as create. I feel the second half of the season so far he has started to come into his own and will continue to progress in his new role.

My view remains he's had a decent season and has improved over the course of the year but he remains the weakest of our first choice front six and will likely make way for a new signing or Can next season.

Certain players aren't valued until there sold or injured.

We would feel a big loss if wij comes out the team. Compliments everyone and adds tons to the team!

As a watcher of dutch football while he was coming through, I've said it before but at first it was thought he would be a box to box engine all round player when coming through, a mate tells me shortly after getting a couple games scored an outrageous hattrick in a practice game that saw him pushed farther forward and at times (awfully) flat out wide.

From this though he got shoeholed into this modern number 10 role that everyone seems to play.
That being said when we signed him I had no idea what we were doing as although having incredible undoubted talent, go watch his last season for Eindhoven, I had no idea where he'd fit in our system.
But klopp obviously saw and sees him as a more box to box player and honestly I think he's learning on the job incredibly well.
Once he has it down as well I think we will really see him excel next season as his shooting especially distance shooting which we lack at times is phenomenal he has great technique striking the ball which we haven't seen and also making runs late in to the box which we have seen but not enough of either IMO but more and more of late.

Wiji is played out of position. Technically sound with good feet. He is by no means a traditional CM which you want him to be.

Ray Kennedy was a striker at Arsenal but when Liverpool signed him he converted to midfield. what a player.

Totally agree. Maybe didn't start too good and he had plenty of criticism especially on here and I have to admit at the start I had my doubts too but as the seasons went on he's been one of the better players and he's only going to get better.

If the club ends up getting their hands on Keita or Nzonzi, someone is going to have to make way in the midfield trio of Hendo-Lallana-Gini. Would be a shame if it was Gini though. Has done well when called upon and will only get better considering this was his first full season as a box to box midfielder.

I think gini is great in the three, but I strongly believe in games we struggle in, we need to play a striker with mane coutinho and firmino, and that for me means hendo plus one.

Wijinaldum has proven we wrong this season I thought he was going to bomb but he has been decent. I think he, like many in the team, are still too soft though and buckle when the chips are down rather than lifting their own performances. This is not a criticism aimed solely at Gini though and, in my opinion, he has been one of our better players this season - I'd never of imagined him doing this well before the season started but he has and I think he will get better (so lomng as he has the drive to improve) - I'd certainly not be shifting him out of the team just yet.
