Anyone read Gerrards comments about the under 18s? Not sure if he was misquoted or I am paraphrasing poorly - excuse me if I am - but the gist I got was, is that he will look for passion and heart over skills like flicks and turns. Whilst I agree that heart, desire and passion is important, I feel part of the problem with modern football is a lot of players are scared to try something to beat a defender, or create or chance. Hopefully this won't deter them, but with Gerard saying it - I'm sure he's an icon to many of the youth players - they may be afraid of trying something to unlock a defence. Any thoughts eds and reds?

If think you're reading a lot into an innocent comment. He's not saying that he's going to be looking for passion and heart alone, just that he's not going to be producing and pushing on the players who have plenty of technical skill but show no appetite to fight for anything in their lives.

He actually said that skills obviously are very important but there isn't enough young players with the heart and desire, If you are at that level you have clearly have talent but not enough young players want to player through the burning in their chest.

I think he means that there cosseted too much.
He wants theme to have the fire in the belly. Win the battle for your place.
Like Suarez. Top class but still wants to win that much he would take a bite out of you if it would help him score.
A winner who leaves nothing on the pitch. (Well maybe the odd mouthful)
