Question pointed to MK Scouser. Not meant to be derogatory or harsh but do you still think that selling coutinho is ok or that he is easably replaceable?

Just genuine curious as seems to me the only player we have who has that something special, seems a genuine winner (just look how many times he's pulled out important goals), and then added seems a good lad who I'd imagine boast moral.

Think today showed his best position and when fully fit is the only player in the league to hold a torch to hazard.

Agree10 Disagree0

I think we can survive without left wing Couts but I've been calling for him to move central for ages and I think in that position he could become a Liverpool great.

Slight misquote there buddy! I've never said he was "easily" replaceable. If I did then I most certainly got caught in the emotions of not wanting him to leave because I have never believed that to be the case.

My opinion is still the same though. IF he does not want to be here, we should let him go. No point building around a player who will leave inevitably. I have always and will always maintain that no player is irreplaceable though. As a left forward he is not world class. 10-15 goals a season is no more than Joshua King for example. However if we play him in a deeper role as I have repeatedly suggested, he is much harder to replace with like for like quality because in midfield, he is level with the likes of Modric in my opinion. A prime example to back up this point is Mane. He cost about £34m and is easily as good as Coutinho and scores and creates just as many goals. So my point is clearly not as absurd as some may think. We signed Mane from a mid-table team without having European football. At the time I said this by the way Coutinho looked set to stay as a left forward. If Klopp is going to play him in midfield though then he is clearly much harder to replace with equal quality, let alone an upgrade. It is his natural position and clearly his best position.

I hope he stays because he wants to stay, but I will reiterate that no player is bigger than the club and we have replaced better players in the past. Who genuinely thought we could top Torres? Then along came Suarez!

I love Couts though and I hope he loves us as much as we all love him.

Thanks for the question though, I enjoy civil debate where people don't have to be childish.

We'd be a far more balanced team if Klopp brought in a left winger and moved Coutinho to center midfield. Very similar to what Henderson was doing with Sturridge and Suarez in 2013. Right now, we have no other midfielder who creates the danger with pinpoint passes to the forwards. Henderson is settled into a deeper role and there's simply no one else who is creative and threatening enough with forward passes. I have no problem with using a rotation of Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum and Lallana, next to Coutinho, if Klopp is going to stay with the 4-3-3. Over a season, it's a game of 25 players, and not just 14-15 players who play and fill in for injuries and absences, wherever required. This was our great weakness this season.

Comparing Coutinho to Mane or Joshua King is irrelevant though MK. King is a forward, and if you want to compare him to someone in our team, it surely has to be Firmino (who has scored 4 less than King in the PL this season) .

Mane may play in a wide role, but he is suited there more than Coutinho as you make it clear yourself; if Coutinho is moved to a central role, he can probably adapt and go up a level, but there will be little point in moving Mane into a central midfielder.

Also, inevitably, everyone leaves, but that doesn't mean LFC should be ambivalent about their best player. How did replacing Suarez go for us, since you bought up that example?

excellent reply mk, but yo should have used the time when liverpool fans thought the world was ending when keegan was going to hamburg and was replaced by the near god like figure of dalglish
but excellent reply buddy.

Joshua King has been good this season, or are you saying he is a poor striker?

15 May 2017 07:02:31
No Stoupid, just saying he is not world class. He is a good player.

Also AG I'm not sure what you mean. Coutinho played primarily as a left forward. Joshua King plays primarily as a left forward. It was only a loose comparison anyway just to reiterate that as a forward Coutinho does not have a world class goal return. When I suggested Coutinho was not irreplaceable it was when he was playing on the left and looked like staying in that role.

Putney hit the nail on the head in my opinion. Left wing Coutinho is not as hard to replace (at least in terms of goals) but as an all round player and a midfielder he is on the brink of world class which naturally makes him very difficult to replace.

Anyway that is splitting hairs, I don't want him to leave, but I don't want to force him into staying. Simple as that really.

Fair reply mate and sorry if misquoted. Just hope we do our best to keep hold of him. Just think we all need to remember for every mane signed there's a caulker signed as well!
