Today I see somewhere a poll who is greatest striker and ronaldo de Lima wins. He is the one actually I fell in love with football. I what to know the ed's (001, 002) and follow posters view on him. I personally think at present no one is of his caliber.

{Ed001's Note - he is the best I have ever seen.}

Agree3 Disagree1

He was always my favourite, he was always the first to do things i hadn't seen, my favourite striker of all time by a mile.

19 May 2017 20:10:49
Completely agree. Trickery, dribbling, blinding speed and finishing, too. It's a pity those knee injuries slowed him down, otherwise he would have reached greater heights.

19 May 2017 20:34:02
Why did he really miss the 98 world cup final? Was it nerves? One of my favourites was van Basten. Similar kind of injuries finished him I think. And that a c Milan team. Wow.

19 May 2017 20:53:51
Roller - he didn't miss it, he actually played. But he was as good as not being there. They say he had a seizure before the game; an odd thing since he never had one before nor after, so it's a mystery that may never be solved. The team doctors took him off the match roster, but his sponsors Nike made sure he was put back on, where he virtually sleepwalked through the game. Yeah, Van Basten was a special one too. With the other two Dutchmen, Rijkaard and Gulitt, he was part of that AC Milan team for the ages.

Suarez all day long.

20 May 2017 00:17:47
Ronaldo pulverising Man Utd is still my favourite ever individual performance. He may as have patted Fergie on the head as he got subbed off to a standing ovation.

20 May 2017 00:47:12
I'd agree with Ronaldo (Brazil) being the best.

And apparently he could have been even better but he was blighted with hypothyroidism.

He obviously didn't deserve all the stick he got over his weight as weight gain is linked to the above long word.

Michael Owen apparently made a few nastyish tweets about Ronaldos weight but I guess it was the only way to get his name in the same paragraph as Ronaldos . Runt.

Roller, there are many conspiracies surrounding the 98 final in France. But the most common story was that Ronaldo had a siezure the previous night or on the day of the final and the sponsors (no names here) forced him to play, allegedly (one of the Eds has also said something along these lines) . But the conspiracies range from poisoning to pay offs. One even claimed Ronaldo was abducted by aliens and a clone put in his place lol.

But Ronaldo like some have already said, was the reason I even started watching Football.

20 May 2017 07:25:43
Red reaper seriously, you must be 15 or something. Suarez could not lace the original ronaldo's boots. World cup winner, multiple european champion, seriously! @#!

{Ed001's Note - there is no comparison! Suarez wishes he was as good as the real Ronaldo. He was a whole other level.}

20 May 2017 08:57:10
Can I throw a curve ball in here and say Ian Rush!

Maybe he wasn't as fancy, but he worked so hard for the team and scored every type of goal you could imagine. To my mind, he is the perfect striker to lead the line. It would be like Firmino scoring 30 goals a season and still maintaining his selfless but clever running, his gamesmanship, and his team ethic! That is how good Rush was. And I've only seen grainy highlight reels and re-runs on LFC TV. Anybody who watched him live was a lucky person.

Real Ronaldo is top of two of my footy lists. Best attacker and worst hairstyle. In a world of Fellainis, Chamakhs and Nainggolans Ronaldos pubes look is still no1.

But seriously at his peak he was the most unplayable attacker I've seen. Ball at his feet, facing forward and it felt like a real chance every time. Ball in the box- same thing. Pace, movement, trickery, power, smart finishing and great head for the game.

20 May 2017 09:22:29
Ha! 15 and half actually. I remember Ronaldo, big lad pretty quick, good eye for goal. Class! He scored 247 goals for his clubs. Suarez already scored 264 goals for clubs. Different types of Striker both of them but one for me edges it - the ex rated Red.

{Ed001's Note - edges it? Omg you really have not seen enough of Ronaldo mate. They are not even close. Ronaldo would be up there with the Maradonas and Peles of the game if he had not had his career curtailed by injury. As it is he is still the next step down to be compared with Messi and the current Ronaldo, though it is only because of his short career that they can stand comparison. Ronaldo was truly a phenomenon.

He was that good he changed the Brazilian way of naming players. Before Ronaldo players would be Ronaldinho when they were young, as they got older and a new player emerged they would become Ronaldo and the youngster Ronaldinho. Then they would get displaced again by a new Ronaldinho and the old Ronaldinho would become Ronaldo and they would become Ronaldao. Basically, to Anglicise it, it would be Little Ronald, Ronald and Big Ronald. Ronaldo was that good he was never displaced, leaving Ronaldinho stuck as Little Ronald forever.}

It's a boring reply but it's Maradona surely or is that an age thing.

20 May 2017 10:40:56
Amazing player. One of the best. But that haircut was a disgrace.

20 May 2017 10:41:50
You are right about there being no strikers at the moment who are of his calibre, or even close for that matter. But if you are stating he's the greatest player of the past say 25 years, I think you could be wrong. You can't deny messi's artistry at times and he his stats are unimaginable.

20 May 2017 12:21:59
Waro - It's Pele! And it's definitely an age thing! LOL.

20 May 2017 11:21:17
Fowler is the greatest ever. Obviously.

20 May 2017 11:36:59
I'd go Messi. Footballs much more difficult these days so Messi for me, just.

20 May 2017 16:09:19
I'll always go with Ronaldo.
Not to knock Cristiano or Messi, but Ronaldo played in a time where the rules favoured defenders. If he's one-on-one with the central defender, he can get pulled down without the defender even getting a card or at worst a yellow. Now, it's a straight red card. Cristiano/ Messi is one-on-one with a defender and you're thinking "that's a goal". Imagine the number of times Ronaldo would be one-on-one with a central defender and the goals he would've scored if the defender knew he couldn't commit a foul.
He played in a difficult Italian league where the emphasis is on defending, not the leagues nowadays with fullbacks being semi-wingers and opening up space everywhere.
To me, if he were to be in his prime in this era, he would be posting hattricks like Cristiano and Messi.

Ronaldo (O Phenomeno) is the best player I have ever seen in all my 30 years of watching football.
