with Manninger announcing his retirement this summer, i assume we are going to go for a similar kind of player as our 3rd choice rather than ward.

In the ed's opinion what should a 3rd goalkeepers qualities be, as usually it is a rarity that they will play so is it more their experience to bring to the squad than anything else?

to everyone, whoever comes in remember, we are liverpool, we support the team and the players through thick and thin.

Onwards and upwards, we march on!

{Ed002's Note - The third pick goalkeeper eith needs to be a youngster who plays regularly for the U23s or it needs to be someone like Manninger, Eduardo or Given etc. - someone who is experienced and useful enough to help the kids but not expected to play a regular part.}

Given how unlikely it is the position will be required I would be fine to use Grabara as backup - he looks a very good keeper even if only 18 / 19 year old next season.

I think there is a massive advantage to having an older keeper. They can serve almost as a dressing room father figure, but you ask Kane how important to his early development Brad Freidel was. Staying behind after training with him for hours to help him work on his shooting.

There is more to a squad than just having young talented players. Experience cannot be taught.

Older keepers are good for making the brews and running and collecting the ball when it goes over the bar.
