Im reading it will take a bid of around 50m for Kieta. Fifty million squid. I might be wrong but I can't see us blowing that on one player. That will be a huge chunk of our budget gone. I would rather us push for Paredes or Carvalho.

With that price tag, we are not signing Keita. There are more priority positions that need immediate attention like LB, RB, LW and CB. Hope Klopp sorts those out before looking for luxury signings. Our midfield personnel is way more equipped than our defense or wide men to handle a title so let's sign some goddamn wingers and defenders before looking to luxuries.

I agree IB to a degree although we do need another CM mate. Lucas leaving and with Hendo's fitness issues we need more options. Im not sure of the chances of Either Carvalho or Paredes but ed001 has said we are interested.

You have to understand 50 million is today just what you have to pay to buy one quality player. that is how the market is.
50 million is the new 10 million. all of us fans barging about money should stop it. None of us know what money is available to spend.

26 May 2017 11:07:37
Akshit, except that I would rather spend 50 million on one player (if that sort of money is made available) that operates in a position that needs immediate attention. And i doubt such a big sum will be spent on a midfielder.
Rather sign the best fullbacks and a CB available willing to join us (irrespective of their costs) and then maybe next summer we can spend big on a midfielder.

26 May 2017 11:35:05
Maybe in a few years 50 million will be the new 10 million. But I think in general you are right comma we used to talk about a 20 million player now it seems to be somewhere between 30 to 50 now. But the points remains that and some cases for a special player and then area of the purchase you need to improve sometimes you just need to spend. Whether that is for keita or not I don't know.

26 May 2017 11:52:30
It is very relative. i think i player in the mold of keita a complete powerhouse of a midfielder helps the team overall defense and attack. yes we have immediate needs like LB, LW as mentioned but we are not being linked with the right kind of players.
Keita is only serious talent we are being linked to ( albeit newspapers only, none of the eds have confirmed this i believe)
Say if we loose keita to mancity or united i'd be gutted because he is a type of player that will improve those clubs and ours.
and if i have learned something from modern day football is that there is nothing as too many good players. else Clubs like real madrid, bayern etc would cease to function.
The ones that perform the best match in match out should be in the team.
Btw the only reason we have not won the title this season is because of not having adequate quality in our ranks to cover for our first team. it had hardly to do much with our defense, we have a tosh defense anyways, but we lost/ drew games because we couldn't score against/ open tight defenses. Having enough quality never harms anyone.
so i don't want to go for a LB LW just for sake of our requirement when right player is not available.

The fact is chaps we will not blow 50m on one player (right or wrong) and if we do that will be about our lot.

If they are demanding that figure for Kieta then we might as well not waste our time monitoring him for months and go for players we can afford.

26 May 2017 11:58:27
If you look at the prices being thrown around for players atm. We can very much say that we will spend 50 million on one player. Real Madrid bought a lad who has played something like 15 mins of senior football in Brazil for how much? We are looking 30 million for a defender who although good we are desperate to get rid of. And 30 to 40 for a striker who can't stay fit for a full week. 😅 forget the numbers money, let the owners worry about that.

26 May 2017 12:42:28
It is not a fact kloppsred17. It is what you assume. It will become a fact if we do not spend 50M on a player this summer. Until then its an assumption.
The thing is we need only two very good players to sort our team out and these players need to be of first team genuine quality.

26 May 2017 13:28:20
Can you imagine how many nectar points you'd get from buying 50 million squid!

26 May 2017 14:23:34
But Keita is a fine player. I'm torn on whether we should spend a significant portion of our budget on him or strengthen other areas first. Keita I'm convinced will be a world beater in a couple of years so if FSG have the stomach to buy 5 top players ( 2 LBs, a RB, LW, ST, CM) then I say they should do it.
City just paid 60 million pounds for Bernardo Silva and set to shell out another 35 million on Mendy. The level of competition is going to be fierce and LFC needs the stomach to face it.

26 May 2017 14:35:54
I personally think we need a quality CM to protect our back 4 more than we need a LW. Would take both tbh, but only after are fullbacks are purchased.

26 May 2017 14:46:34
City have a financial advantage over us mate as do Utd. We will just have to do what we can in the market and see were it takes us.

26 May 2017 17:34:56
I have said repeatedly that we will NOT be signing Keita for obvious reasons. RBL are in CL, they have got bottomless pits of money, Keita is not willing to leave and RBL is not willing to sell. All these add to the 50m evaluation which supports the points made above.

Akshit, 50m is 50m and that is it. We will not be signing a midfielder for 50m nor any player for that matter. Even Kante did not cost that when Chelsea signed him and he is light years ahead of Keita.

Klopp doesn't roll like that so that is all the evidence you need until he proves us wrong.50m should be reserved for a player who will improve us in the area that matters: goals and assists. Absent of that, 50m is crazy. I wouldn't even pay that for VVD cos he's not worth it neither is Keita.

26 May 2017 17:43:38
I remember Hansen saying that having a top class centre midfielder like Souness in the team made them feel indestructible. I'm not saying Keita is on that level, but if you want to win things you need a strong centre midfield.
