does anybody here honestly see mignolet, karius or ward as league winning keepers? GK and lb are a huge concern in my eyes and really need to be addressed.

Having watched City win with Hart, United with VDS, and Leicester with Kasper? Yeah I could see Mignolet as a title winning keeper! 😂.

Mignolet will be fine with a good defence in front of him.

Fabien barthez won two league titles, champions league, European cup plus the world cup and he was awful.

Have to say mk that van ser Sar was a class goalkeeper back in his day. Even when he signed for utd in the latter stages of his career he was still class.

Why is Van Der Saar in that list? He was a fine GK imo, definitely one of the best shot stoppers around and was a fantastic vocal leader at the back. We will be lucky to have one of our current GKs be half as good as him.

Mignolet improved significantly last season and Karius can't be fairly judged on 2 games. Our goalkeeping options are fine.
Agree with the need to improve on our current options at left back.
I'd like a centerback with good pace, organisational qualities and positional sense. The way we play our cb's are going to be exposed fom time to time and these qualiies would seem to be the most appropriate.
For me the set piece vulnerabilities are more a matter for the training ground. My experience of playing is pitifully limited though so perhaps posters with more knowledge mignt disagree.

Mignolet improved massively last season and Karius is a youngster, without even mentioning how good Ward was last year for Huddersfield because he was brilliant. Goalkeeper is not a position we need to improve as our options are pretty decent. Though I do feel that Ward should have been loaned out rather than being third choice.

03 Jul 2017 08:11:43
MK how on earth is VDS in that list?!

You really baffle me sometimes.

03 Jul 2017 08:55:25
MK, you are wrong in your assessment of VDS. He was great throughout his career (sure he made some mistakes as all GK's do) and it would be an insult to the best GK in Holland's history, to be in a list consisting of the pathetically overrated Joe Hart and the average Schmeichel.

03 Jul 2017 13:55:02
I thought he was well past it for his last 3 seasons at United.

03 Jul 2017 16:15:30
Guessing everyone missed Fergie trying to phase him out with Ben Foster and Tom Kuszak then 😂 who made about 30 appearances between them in the last 2 seasons VDS was at United.

Short memories some people. VDS was on his last legs and Fergie won the league rotating an OAP with two awful keepers. Any chance to disagree with me ey lads 😉.

03 Jul 2017 17:12:50
That changes nothing, MK even if you were right. His last two seasons cannot erase a glittering career where he had already won titles and a CL with Ajax's academy team in 1995 (the youngest team to ever win the CL vs the great AC Milan team of the 90's) before he got to England. It's like saying Ronaldo (the real one) was average in his last two seasons as a professional hence, he is no longer a football legend. That makes no sense.

He was already well into his 30's when he went to Utd BUT that did not stop them from winning the PL a couple of times. You will never win that argument that EVS was average. Not now, not ever.

03 Jul 2017 19:41:36
If that's all you've got to back your opinion up mk I'm disappointed.

03 Jul 2017 22:48:27
Does that mean Pepe Reina was average overall then for us due to having a poor season at the end?

How about any chance to admit you may be wrong on this one mate?
