Re: transfer fees

I am having a hard time justifying how the transfer fee, player wages, agent fees are so inflated when there so many more pressing needs where these monies should be directed to.

As much as I love the sport and the club, and as much as I would love to see us have the best players in the world. That amount of money is obscene considering at the basic level it is just entertainment.

In 2015 Kenneth C. Griffin paid approximately $300million for a 3m2 board with some random paint squiggles on it and that's just for looking at.

People spend loads of money on things that other people don't think represent good value, always have and always will.

Best to just enjoy watching the football and looking at the paint splatters and forget about what someone else has paid to make it happen.

Hi Red Dawn- I'm guessing that the painting was Jackson Pollocks.
I'm going to leave that one alone.

2 wrongs do not make a right, people have all the right to spend as they please. In my opinion spending on people having basic necessities is more important than spending on entertainment. What is worse is when people actually justify by minimizing amounts i. e. spend 80mil spend 100mil coz that is what the team needs, even a million is more than what most of us will see in our lifetime. As much as I would love for us to have the messi's and ronaldo's of the world I'd be much happier and proud of the club if that money went to deserving causes p. s. not saying we are in for messi or ronaldo.

I think last summer in the prem represented over a billion spent just in transfer fees, that money couldve been used for cancer research, providing food, clean water and more urgent needs.

The money leaking out of football is more outrageous than the money going in. Add-ons for agents, player representatives and other leeches are adding 20%-30% to the total cost of a transfer.

{Ed025's Note - i know digger...its criminal mate..

I wish the governing bodies could put a cap on what agents get paid . they would clearly find a way round it though.

{Ed002's Note - There are quite strict rules now but some clubs are paying well over the odds - and one club has paid stratospheric amounts.}

I agree Waqas, but you can't expect football clubs to wipe out third world debt. The fact is they will continue to buy players for their teams.

I do not expect them to be wiping off any debt (they can shave off a significant chunk), the amounts being quoted are bothersome to me, people writing off those amounts saying its nothing in this market are even more bothersome. I expected FFP to regulate these issues and be stricter than it actually is.

Ed2 in principle how easy is it to become an agent . is there much screening from the fa etc, I remember Anelka having his brother as an agent, didn't he even go on to manage raith rovers for a bit.

{Ed002's Note - There is a registration process in all countries and it tends to vary somewhat - particularly in Germany. I don't know how many registered player representatives there are out there right now but it is a large number. Very few make any sort of decent money out of it.}
