Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

Reports are coming out that Emre Can has signed a new contract with us, rejecting the approach of Juventus. That is great news, to push forward we need to keep are best players and, in my opinion, Can is one of those. Now, if we keep Coutinho and strengthen in certain areas I would consider this transfer window a success (Discounting the whole Van Dijk debacle, of course. )

Also, it sounds like Inter Milan are interested in Lazar Markovic. I hope a deal can be found. The lad has had his career ruined by Liverpool, a young promising star that was played out of position and then sent on loan to average team where he continued to stagnate. Wish him all the best.

Lastly, reports also claim that Daniel Sturridge has rejected a massive offer from a club in China. I don't know about anyone else but I relieved to hear this. On his day, on form and, more importantly, fit, he is out most clinical striker. We cannot lose him even to a distant club in China. Regardless of the money offered Sturridge is not a mercenary, he clearly wants to prove himself and get back to his best. He is not driven by money and that is an admirable quality for a footballer in this day and age.

Great post la!

Sturridge is an elite forward, we'd be mad to let him go.

Well said man. Hope Sturridge can produce what we know he can, he has all the talent necessary. I genuinely believe the sky is the limit for Emre, selling him would be a huge mistake, I may cut a decisive opinion here but I believe he should start over Hendo and I really rate Hendo.

Don't worry too much about Lazar, he is another one of those extremely talented kids who will never have the right mentality to make it at the top level. Good luck to the kid wherever he goes, hope he toughens up and proves me wrong.

I agree with chiefscout, the club is not at all responsible for stagnating markovic, when he was given those loans he was supposed to show that he was good enough. All I can say is that the club made a very bad deal to sign a young unproven talent at such a huge price.

I agree with African Red, at some point the player has to take responsibility for his own career, Markovic has never looked good enough for Liverpool or suited for the premier league. He has had loans away from the club and has rarely impressed. Liverpool may have made some mistakes early with him but the rest is down to Markovic.

Good post apart from the Markovic part.
How can we have ruined his career when he's got another 10 years to go?
I remember him playing against Man City in his first game and he looked sharp and changed the balance of play in that game. He never really performed at the same level after that cameo for us.
Who's fault is that we'll never know but my point is blaming lfc is a guess. Likelihood is, it was a combination of factors. Some coaching related (being played out of position), some player related (good players should be able to perform well in any position) .

I'd be interested to know who was the driving force behind Markovic's signing, I wonder if Ed001 could shed some light on it.
It felt strange at the time, even amongst that mad summer of lunatic deals, and feels even stranger now.
That deal always struck me as something that happened after one of guys in the back showed Rodgers a few YouTube clips on his iPad.

{Ed001's Note - Rodgers wanted him.}

i thought he looked good at hull last season was it his fault Rodgers played him right back no. a young player who's confidence was taking from him and moving from country to country never getting to settle does help any player. look at Luka Modrić was the same when he first signed for spurs I was not sure where he played starting out on the left wing in and out of games now look at him. If he does go I hope the lad goes on to great things. and the club does have to look at its self with young players when was the last time we had any one come from the academy and make the grade. steven gerrard and that was getting on for 20 years ago.

Kind of like Markovic. Hope we return the favour Inter did us by selling Couthino on the cheap, and that Markovic can develop into the very best he can be in Italy.

Andy Thorne, what about Markovic, as a player, is particularly likeable? He's looked poor at pretty much every club he's played at, and showed few signs of improvement.
