Just sharing a thought.

The day I started supporting Liverpool, it was after they won the CL.

Before Torres came, I followed a bit of the Spanish League. Watched Torres in some games, and I didn't like him. Then Rafa bought him. He turned out to be one of the star.

When he left, Dalglish bought Suarez, whom I haven't watch him playing before apart from the World Cup. I didn't like him either during that time. And he turned out to be one of the star as well.

Then Rodgers bought Coutinho, whom I haven't heard of before. I didn't have the same feeling I had about Suarez and Torres. I just felt that time he was just a new signing, a kid and nothing more. Now he is turning out to be one of the star. Maybe not yet entirely, but I am pretty sure he will.

If Coutinho leaves, I won't be entirely disappointed. From this short experience and my own history of supporting this club, I'm kind of sure that the club will be producing yet another star. Who? It doesn't matter.

Players come and go mate. We have signed many players and made them great. Problem is that prices for players are spiraling out of control and we cannot keep on waiting for players to develop into world beaters.

At this point it seems like Coutinho is staying and LFC do not want to sell. We have to keep our best players to get back to the top.

I'm very confused by this post.
Did you come on to say that you only support us because we won the champions league, have no idea about players and don't mind if we sell our current best player?

Pretty much yea lol.

Sellin Coutinho will be taking a step backwards imo. We need to shed the tag of being a selling club first and foremost. So what if Barcelona and PSG want him? Tell them he is not for sale and keep planning for the coming season with Coutinho as the playmaker. 100% sure he will be around come 1st September and will help us win at least one trophy next season.

Good thing about is right now is I don't know who our best player really is. Coutinho is individually the best but Mane has more of a positive affect on the team when he plays. Then there's Firmino who's as good as anyone on his day, Hendo who has a huge affect on the team and we miss when he's out. Salah? Lallana? Wiji had a great season. It's a good position to be in! (Notice I didn't mention any defenders 😂)

I don't think you can give him stick for becoming an LFC fan in 2005!

When I was a kid my dad hated football. He was a Leeds fan as a kid and fell out of love with the club game through the 80's and 90's due to there 1st fall from grace. So all we would watch was England games because he is a bit of a patriot.

Anyway my favourite players watching those internationals were Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole. When I got old enough (11) I decided I wanted to start watching MOTD. My first ever club game I watched though was Liverpool vs AC Milan in that final and I was sold. The passion, the fight back, Gerrard, the all red kit, winning the best trophy etc. It all came together for me and I chose Liverpool.

I'm not going to lie if my first game had been Chelsea winning the FA cup, things might have been different because as I say, I liked Lampard too.

Surely everybody has a single moment that made them choose Liverpool? Unless it was forced on you from birth in which case, I'd argue that the likes of myself and Haizan have a pretty good case to call you out! We chose LFC on our own, we didn't need to be told! 😉

Anyway, good post Haizan. Players cone and go. There will always be a new icon looking to take the mantle. Nobody wants him to leave, but no player is bigger than the club.

I won't be disappointed if Coutinho leaves this summer. I will be devastated! We have to keep our best players if we want to win the league and quite frankly Phillipe is our best player.

The thing is we need two of at least Couts calibre going forward, plus a really good support crew. Hazard&Costa last year for example.

Last time we came close we had Suarez&Sturridge, supported by SG, Sterling.

The time before that SG&Torres, supported by Xabi.

Hope PC&Mané can become our leading actors, and that we'll have a good enough support crew to mount a serious title challenge.

I just don't think it's right to support a club (any club) just because they won a final MK
If lost would they all be Milan fans?

We give Utd fans plenty of stick for being glory hunters and that's basically what any fan who supports because of that final is as I highly doubt that is was so many peoples first ever game they watched.

That final is the reward for being a Liverpool fan and not the reason to be one.

Laughing I think you are living in a bit of a dream world there. The reason why Liverpool are so well supported is because of our success and titles since Shankly.

The top supported teams are always the most successful and it is mainly down to fans wanting to support the team who either have the best players, play the best football, or win the most.

That is the way all sport is and always has been. Watch the Tennis today and see if you can spot a Cilic fan! Aside from his friends and family, nearly everyone else will be supporting Federer because he has been more successful which has made him more popular.

It is human nature mate. You either support your local side, you support who your family supports, or you support one of the best teams for glory. If you dislike that 3rd reason, Liverpool is a really bad choice for you! Without our Glory fans we'd be Bolton or Wigan, surviving off a miniscule local fan base.

I remembered watching CL finals since early 2000s. I didn't decide to choose to support Real (I think they won it 2 times during that), Bayern, or Porto. And I didn't decide to channge to Barcelona after the 2005.

Back then, most of the mainstream media in my country covered mostly the Serie A and the Spanish League. To watch Premier League, we need to subscribe to satellite TV, which was at that time was really expensive. Internet wasn't like the internet now.

Well, all in all, I am a supporter a fan just like you, and the difference between us is just the reason. Peace.

Lauvhin2, 2005 is as good a reason to fall for a club as one can ask, assuming you didn't have one prior. Why isn't that as legitimate as your reason?

16 Jul 2017 12:35:13
Why does it matter when or why we chose to support a team?

I became a Liverpool fan in late 90s even though I'm born and bred in manchester. My family are mainly all die hard city fans with a few utd. They all tried forcing their Teams on me, got so much stick growing up, still do this day. When I tell people I support Liverpool but I'm from manchester people are always like what? how? why? And I don't know myself how I became a Liverpool fan, all I know is I f**k**g love this club.

I think we can all relax. All he is saying is that our judgement of a player before he arrives is not that important. The coach should know best. HE pointed out that there were several players that was not "world beaters" and turned into great players. OK, I knew about Torres but he was still pretty young when he arrived. I also never heard of Coutinho and barely heard of Suarez.
What he wanted to say was that even if players move on, we will find other players. Its true right? Fowler moved on and we had Owen, who moved on and we eventually got Torres, and that led to Suarez and now Coutinho has taken over the mantel.
Nobody wants to sell their best players but sometimes it can happen. we should all relax a bit. that's all.
