For me (and this is just an opinion everyone is entitled to one) Liverpool are in danger of this being a disastrous and more embarrassing transfer window than they have ever had. As it stands they have been unable to secure any of their first choice targets (although Salah I think could be a top player for us but it's our own fault we could have had him for 12 mill a few years ago) The owners have already had to apologise once to Saints for tapping up VVD plus Roma and Leipzig were clearly not happy with the way their players were approached. There is also the rumours that the Fa will look into our dealings of younger players further. Kieta looks like a propaganda target just to appease the fans to make them believe that we were in for a big player. We have unsettled VVD illegally and have left ourselves in the same mess as last season as we still have Sakho and no improved new centre half. And to top it all off we are now at risk of losing Coutinho our best player and Can. If Can goes then we are weakened from last season. If Coutinho goes it's a disaster. We will now either buy players just for the sake of it, who won't improve the team or we will go into the season with what we have currently. It was said we could compete for top players when we get CL but the players we have already bought and were in for would have probably still came to us without it.

While I think most people underestimate the impact Salah will have on our play, and is consequently a fantastic buy, the VVD and Keita situations could have certainly been handled far far better. Maybe it's me, but I get the impression that other teams handle their transfers far more discreetly and with far less of a media circus around them. And I'm sure the teams, whose players we want to buy, don't appreciate this media circus, and consequently put up higher levels of resistance just to lower LFC down a peg or two. Just seems there's a vacuum in leadership and strategy when it comes to transfers. It makes you wonder who is really in charge, when a price is quoted for Coutinho a month ago, and yet now there's loud strong denials of any intent to sell.

Players come and players go. It won't help the team, but it won't be disastrous. Just re-invest the money adequately and keep moving forward.

I dunno mate, remember when we bought Ballotelli?

Haha Mickey, that was also the same year that we qualified for CL football and sold Luis. It's almost like a trend.

@flashthered - buying and selling only works with players who can be adequately replaced. Coutinho is a rare player and would be difficult, perhaps impossible, to replace if we let him go. Sure we could sign other players but there are few out there with the skill set he has. We need to hold onto our best players otherwise we risk becoming to Barcelona what Southampton have been to us - is that really the height of our ambitions?
