James Pearce from the Echo saying Coutinho definitely won't be sold. Not even 120m would do it. Owners adamant.

Yet Barcelona say they are close to signing him.

Does anyone actualy know what is going on?

I can see this sarga dragging on and affecting any hope we had of bringing players in as its clear since all this Coutinho stuff started, we have done nothing as regards to bidding for players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barcelona are desperate that's what. Their team is a shambles and unless Messi has his greatest year they're not competing against Madrid.

17 Aug 2017 18:07:18
What's happening is Barcelona are telling their local press what they and their fans want to see in the media, and Liverpool are telling their local press what we want to see.

Reality is that either Barcelona will offer enough money or they won't.

I don't believe Coutinho will actually go on strike to force the move, and even if he does, it'll still come down to money because if the club know that if stand firm and he's still here after the window, him and the club will have to call a temporary truce since in neither his or our best interests for him not to play.

The transfer saga will probably effect his performances early on, but it's not his own interest to sulk and play poorly in a World Cup year, so hopefully any dip in form will be temporary.

Until Barcelona come up with another bid, then nobody knows what is happening and if Liverpool reject that bid then Coutinho will still be a Liverpool. Barcelona have not made any other bid and Liverpool have said he is not for sale.

Window is far from over so keep calm, it is only over until the fat lady sings.

Mighty, Don't know if Pearce can be trusted as he is the mouthpiece of LFC right now. However, Klopp has rubbished Barca's claims so there's that. Also, Ed01 says that Cou will be sold and that FSG are just posturing to get a better deal. Make of that, what you will.

{Ed001's Note - I did not say that mate. I said I expect him to be sold if he forces his way out and he is forcing his way out. An opinion not a definite as there is no way to be sure how hard he will push his way out, how much money Barca will be willing to pay and how desperate we are to keep him.}

17 Aug 2017 18:20:13
He's staying mate 🤝.

17 Aug 2017 18:25:26
And my middle paragraph was an offence against the English language. Sorry.

17 Aug 2017 18:36:49
Are Liverpool doing the right thing in playing hard ball with a player who wants to leave, if the window closes what sort of player will he be faking injuries causing trouble with others, and forcing the board to sell him in January for maybe 40 mill less . or in Cans case leaving for nothing next year.

17 Aug 2017 18:50:29
Ed01 you say it depends how desperate he is to force his (couts) way out. what else can be done after a TR handed in? I just ask cause the way I see it all clubs are doing the same. 1 VVD
2 Marhez
The thing is with pipco is he has no buy out clause I believe.

Also I think I remember possibly ed02 telling us about the way Southampton get players in with a promise of letting players leave if a CL club bids for them. Before we all go mad I know ain't bid for anyone at Southampton apparently. Is this the case? I appreciate your response eds.

Times running out.

{Ed001's Note - he can go on strike, refuse to train and be generally disruptive.

It was me who said that, though it is not CL clubs, it is less specific, just refers to top clubs from what I was told. That was the root cause of the dispute when Man Utd showed interest in Fonte last summer. They were refusing to consider a sale because United were outside the CL, he was upset because that was not the wording used and felt United qualified as a top club.}

17 Aug 2017 18:53:13
I'm not keen on Pearce, but he is actually now an unafficial mouth-piece for the club.

He has been prompted by someone at the club, and I suspect it's to force Barcelona in to a massive third bid.

17 Aug 2017 18:56:36
Ooops! My bad, Ed01. Thanks for the clarification. It seems that Barcelona is just blowing a whole bunch of smoke and gassing up their fans. Guillem Balague has said that none of what Segura said is true and no new bids have been placed and LFC's stance is unchanged. Barcelona are in full panic mode cos they are almost a has-been club in Spain and in the CL so they are trying to save face esp. since they got shalacked by Real (in third gear, btw) and they see the end of their dynasty.

{Ed001's Note - no worries.}

17 Aug 2017 19:23:30
Deano, If Coutinho stays the onus will be on him to show up for training and get onto the pitch to do what he does best, play football.

The club is still paying his wages, he signed a very expensive and binding contract. Liverpool do not have to sell Coutinho if they do not want to. Both parties will have to adhere to their side of the contract. If Coutinho goes on a tangent and causes unrest, he will be dealt with.

17 Aug 2017 19:35:40
We will wait and see but if he disrupts the team doesn't perform and Barcelona come in for him again in january for a less price. but they no that he is a top player and will perform for them then will force lfc to sell. look at spurs they have learn't walker wanted to go so sold him. i believe i would only keep players who want to play for the club. if neymar stayed at Barcelona pc not going .

17 Aug 2017 19:51:04
If we do manage to keep hold of him though ed do you see a way back for him to be playing again? I cant.

{Ed001's Note - why not? He is not going to sulk around on the pitch with a world cup place at stake.}

17 Aug 2017 19:52:41
Coutinho will have to pull up his socks, like Suarez did when LFC decided he was not going to be sold straight away.

Coutinho will just be doing harm to himself if he continues to sulk and will end up being fined depending on how far he takes things and eventually being let nowhere near the first team. Liverpool still do not have to sell him even if he becomes the devil as he signed a long term binding contract with the club last season. I doubt he wants to end up like Sakho.

17 Aug 2017 20:05:52
Ok mate. I was thinking more if the club, Klopp and the fans would just forgive and forget. I guess we all would thinking about it. I also keep thinking about the fact we have asked about Rakatic, means we must be willing to sell.

17 Aug 2017 20:34:09
I do not believe we have asked about Rakatic at any point. We have had no interest in any Barcelona player in this window.

Barca may have offered Rakatic to Liverpool and probably said hell no straight away.

18 Aug 2017 08:36:21
And we don't want their dross either, Max.
