112 rising to 118 million now is too good to turn down for a player who wants out.
The blame should fall squarely on Klopps shoulder, as Ed01 has told us numerous times Couts has been pushing for a move away for months. The incompetence of Klopp and his team in finding suitable replacements and more first team players is shocking.
He leaves now for a huge fee i. e. Leaves next year for who knows what plus we have a very unhappy player in the squad if he stays.
Very poor management and scouting as usual, can't blame Couts for leaving to play with his idols.

How's is klopp fault Barcelona chose to wait 3 days before the season to put a bid in. Klopp even said every player has a price but the time has to be right. Do you want them to replace him before they have bid?

18 Aug 2017 18:46:27
The expectation was that he'd be a Liverpool player for another season and Barcelona would look for him next year. But Neymar's departure accelerated the timetable, so you can't really blame the club for not having a replacement lined up before the summer, imo.

And considering the sale of Coutinho will immediately inflate the asking price of anyone else we try to buy, I'd question whether £112m rising to £118m is too good to turn down. Especially if it's over a period of time rather than all up front.

You can fault Klopp for quite a few things, but that's seriously stretching it.

90 mil rising to 118.disgrace
40% of what they got from neymars sale.
NOT FOR SALE.

I'm reading it was 80 million up front but then 36.5 million based on Coutinhos performance in form of add ons. For example if Coutinho wins the Ballon Dor, another was if Barcelona won CL.

If this is true I don't blame the club for rejecting it immediately.

Yeah let's blame Klopp for everything! The tea at Anfield is too hot - blame Klopp, shirts cost too much - blame Klopp, Barcelona can't come up with an acceptable offer to buy poor little Phil - blame Klopp!

He knew it was coming, everyone did.

Mcgoveb, your post makes very little sense. How is Klopp to blame, exactly? Cou may have orchestrated this himself BUT why did he sign the contract if he wanted to go? Did you ask yourself that? Oh, but let's all jump on Klopp's back cos he is trying to hold on to a player that regardless of what many say, is our best player, end of. Why? W/ O him, there is no Mane or Salah or Firmino cos him being on the pitch alone, attracts more attention and changes the way teams defend against us. That is the biggest impact a player can have on our team and on the opposition.

Barca knew full well that we may not sell so they put a bid in late in the window and are putting pressure on Cou to force the move himself by putting crap in the media and using his agent to turn his head and poison the well, which is disgusting YET standard procedure with Barcelona and RM. We are calling their bluff and not selling and that's that. Cou had better sort his head out and get on with it as it is a World Cup year and Tite the Brazilian manager, does not play favorites and won't care one iota about Cou's issues and sulking even tho, I believe he won't sulk.

Klopp needed to show intent that LFC would seriously challenge for the title like he promised FSG when he joined. He didn't get any of his first choice players in this window. He has not improved on the CB's who are poor to say the least. We are playing last years 2nd choice LB as our first choice this season.
Had he brought in even one top CB, a top LB, a top CM then maybe Coutinho would see that Liverpool are serious about competing. Instead with less than 2 weeks to go we've had a fiasco of tapping up, apologies, indecisiness with regards other options to Keita and VVD, all culminating in good attacking football like last season and the same poor defending we are now growing accustomed too. If I was Couts I'd leave too, why not join your heros and challenge for league titles and the Champions league. I think we are a long way off that. Then again it's just my opinion and like everyone on here we all have one.

McGoveb I read that post with utter disbelief. Talk about twisting the facts to suit your own agenda.

18 Aug 2017 19:28:09
Mcgoveb - not when he was putting pen to paper on a new contract we didn't. He was more than happy then.

18 Aug 2017 19:54:21
What agenda. Coutinho wants out. I didn't want him out, Klopp didn't want him out, FSG didn't want him out, every other fan didn't want him out, He wants out.
As the Eds have said constantly, players are transient, they join, they leave.
Couts has been excellent for Liverpool for 4 years so why not give him his wish? He's not a piece of work like Suarez, he's been a model pro for us who wants to take his career to the next level.

18 Aug 2017 21:22:03
And that's why you let players leave at the end of their contracts Mcgoveb, or within the last 2 years. If he re signs 6 months prior with no buyout clause he has to expect the club to be in a strong position. United got another year out of ronaldo, Spurs got another out of modric, they both went on to live their dreams but also helped the clubs one last time beforehand. It seems we want to do the same and I can't see how that's klopps fault!? He's 25 not 30, his dream move will still be available if he is good enough when we are in a stronger position to deal with it, 3 days before the season starts is laughable and we should be applauding Klopp/ the owners for their stance. If Barcelona aren't interested in the future, that's their prerogative.

18 Aug 2017 21:44:19
"When we are in a stronger position to deal with it", says it all really.
Can we ask him nicely next year to stay for another year if Klopp still hasn't got the players he wants?
No intent shown this transfer window in my opinion, wish Couts the best of luck, very good footballer, he'll be missed and i still think we have enough to keep scoring goals if he does go.
Unfortunately due to poor transfer strategy we will ship a load of goals again like last season and the season before. Maybe he'll stay and play CB?
