Apparently coutinho has gone on strike now. Any confirmation eds? So disrespectful if true.

{Ed002's Note - Coutinho wants to leave and has not made himself available for selection nor has he trained. Large numbers don't seem to recpgnise this and simply want to whine about the contract.}

Guess it's similar to another situation at Southampton. so no room for complaint really.

My only concern is that we don't let him join Barcelona on the cheap, as the offers so far have definitely been on the cheap (in context of a crazy market) and the probability that we won't bring in a suitable replacement, which I've no confidence that we will bring someone in, given previous form and the names being bandied about (Lanzini, Oxlade, Mahrez and Laxalt simply aren't good enough IMHO) .

The whole Coutinho thing remind me of the Torres saga few years back, the club was in denial that the player wanted to leave for a whole month, and ended up selling him in the last 48 hours of the window then waste most of the money on panic buy. Yes get top dollar for him but give yourself enough time to find a replacement and we do need a replacement, we have very thin squad. And "no" our youth are not ready to take on the responsibility of champions league, its not fair on them and will knock their confident right down if they been thrown into a struggling side.

20 Aug 2017 17:25:20
So his "back injury" was just bs then? We all knew it 😂.

20 Aug 2017 17:34:40
How can he get away with not training? Shouldn't he be fined wages? Or is this whole "my back hurts" excuse sufficient to keep being paid? May try that one on my employer, and see how far it gets me.

This whole thing stinks of the Suarez saga. And if I learned anything from that, its get rid of the disrespectful player; not fit to wear the shirt.

That being said, Barcelona need to meet a fair price or he can stay in the reserves.

20 Aug 2017 17:38:04
"Want to whine about the contract? ". simple fact is he HAS a contract, a multi million pound a year contract. it doesn't matter how long he's wanted to leave or if he's unhappy at the moment, he's contracted to the club. is paid by the club. So should get his arse out on the pitch. End of!

20 Aug 2017 17:40:11
Couts wants to go. We will sell. So I can't understand why Barcelona won't pay up?

20 Aug 2017 17:43:23
And he's paid £200,000 a week. He should not have signed the contract for 5 years and took the extra cash if he thought Barcelona would come calling. Im losing patience for these players who earn in a day what most earn in a year!

20 Aug 2017 17:53:59
If this is true, then it's massively disappointing. Expected far far more from him.

20 Aug 2017 17:58:06
Acered- for precisely that reason. The player wants to join them so they, and the player, can use other means to come to a lower deal.

20 Aug 2017 18:09:50
RTFP statto, heck the 4th thread on the first page on the rumours side near the end a ED1 says Coutinho didn’t expect Barcelona to come calling for him so soon or if at all. can’t fault him for signing a new contract not expecting his dream team to come calling for his services.

20 Aug 2017 18:18:55
He signed it, he can deal with it.

20 Aug 2017 18:22:51
Red_Phil why do you think Coutinho signed a new contract? More money. He didn't think Barcelona would come in for him? Clearly he was wrong, he now has to live with that decision. Lots of us have dreams that don't come true, most of us just move on and get on with things, he is a paid employee with a job to do, there is no defending his actions here.

20 Aug 2017 18:54:51
End of the day he's playing for a club where he adored. The main man. Getting paid on par with all the other world's best number 10s. Plays at anfield every other week. Plays for klopp. Graces the same pitch as some of the greats like the king. Get over yourself. Enjoy what you have and what you chose, yourself. No-one held a gun to your head.

20 Aug 2017 19:36:41
Smeg head (great name btw) of course more money, he probably deserved it too being one of our best players.
Again he didn’t expect his dream to come true so he knuckled down, extended his contract and kept wowing the fans who adore him and even those who don’t.

Also footballing contracts are a lot different to your every day jobs. Did you sign a 5 year deal? No you signed what could be a lifetime deal and you don’t have a say in your yearly pay rises but you can leave at any time, Plus the money can’t even be compared.

People should stop bringing up "he signed a new contract" now because in his head his dream wouldn't come true (who expects dreams to come true? ) but he would rather stay with us than go to any other team.
Unfortunately it was just bad timing and his dream suddenly became something that could happen but it was now or never. Lot of pressure on the lad, take up his dream move now or live regretting it if they don’t come back for him next year or ever?

20 Aug 2017 19:47:39
Agger do understand what you're saying but let's say somebody wants to buy your house and say 150 thousand they then come back and say I'll give you 100 grand I guessing you would say no I've told you the price it's then up to them to give you the asking price if not look for another house.

21 Aug 2017 00:37:38
Don't understand all the down votes?

Also, I have nothing to do with VVD, so yeah I do have a reason to complain. VVd never went on strike, it was Southampton who barred him from training.

21 Aug 2017 06:25:33
If the transfer window passes and Coutinho hasn't got his dream move, and is still intent on refusing to train or play, then what sort actions are the club allowed to take? Do they still need to pay him despite his refusal to honour his contract? Could Coutinho go on strike indefinitely? This is all hypothetical as, in my eyes, the situation is so toxic that the lad just needs to be sold - this sort of unrest will only harm the team in the long run - but I was curious as to what legal avenues (if any) the club has when a player is seemingly breaching contract.

{Ed002's Note - I am sure that it won't come to that Seano but the could potentially take legal action against him in respect of his contract.}
