sorry but Moreno is always one rash tackle away from giving a penalty or being sent off. Always goes flying in and missed leaving the left exposed. Sorry but Robertson for me should get the nod over Moreno every time!

Wasn't at fault for anything that's been wrong this season. So be fair to the lad.

17 Sep 2017 10:48:26
Mr D your right with your comments. He may make the odd mistake during a game but to be fair to the lad he's done well so far compared to others.

17 Sep 2017 11:00:04
And he's also worked hard on his game.

17 Sep 2017 11:32:28
So if he doesn't make an obvious mistake leading to a goal he's good enough? No matter how many panicked, rash challenges he makes (his yellow card against Sevilla was one of the most needlessly stupid tackles I've seen a player make, and he was lucky not be sent off later in the game), how bad his positioning is, and how many times he pushes on too early in move trying to be a left sided forward and we have to work the ball back inside instead of being able to exploit space down his flank, if he's not directly responsible for the concession of a goal he's doing okay?

Do you what that is? The same logic that made Mignolet 'good enough' second half of last season when it should've been plainly obvious he wasn't, and the majority have once again copped as much at the start of this season.

Look I appreciate our entire defence is liable to make mistakes and Moreno hasn't been the worst of them. And unlike some of the others, he has a good attitude and he doesn't ever give up. But the simple fact is 7 assists in 77 starts (& 20 plus sub appearances) is not enough of a trade off for his defensive frailties. And whilst Matip, Lovren and Klavan have been worse, in any game at least one of them will have to start, so we're stuck with them until January. But we're not stuck with Moreno because we bought a new left back who's already demonstrated more composure with his use of the ball and would be hard pressed to be as rash in the tackle and as poor positionally as Moreno. So we should use him instead of Moreno.

100% agree Something Red 👏.

So tell me who is better an available?

17 Sep 2017 13:33:42
Better than Moreno?

Robertson 🤝.

@ Readinghurts

Look at the last paragraph again: "But we're not stuck with Moreno because we bought a new left back who's already demonstrated more composure with his use of the ball and would be hard pressed to be as rash in the tackle and as poor positionally as Moreno. "

You do know that's Andrew Robertson I'm talking about, yeah? That's who's better and available.

I think the point that Dennis is making and I agree with that is that we have conceded a lot of goals this season and they haven't been because of Moreno so changing Moreno will not fix the defensive issues.

In fact if we are being truthful he has been one of the better of our defenders. admittedly that is comparing him against some very poor centre backs and two kids playing right back.

17 Sep 2017 13:50:19
Klopp rates / trusts Moreno! So there is nothing you could do Ron / Something.

17 Sep 2017 13:53:14
Absolute rubbish. Moreno was our best player against seville. He has been a revelation this season. Technically he is so good now. A bit dodgy defencively but if he keeps making goals I'm happy.

17 Sep 2017 14:08:02
Moreno not at fault for giving Jesus (and Silva) the freedom of the 6 yard area for City's second goal?
He was stood next to Jesus when the cross came in and stood admiring his technique instead of challenging.
That's someone who has no clue about defending.

His primary responsibility is not goal creating, its defending. If Mane, Salah, Firmino and 3 midfielders can't create goals then Moreno is useful, but we don't have a problem creating chances, we have a problem preventing them.

17 Sep 2017 14:11:40
Navy, the point I'm making is a defender isn't necessarily good enough just because you can't pin the concession of a goal directly on him. There's a bit more nuance to evaluating a player than that.

I said that he hasn't been as dodgy as the others, but unlike the others, we have an alternative to Moreno that we should be using. Moreno's competition for his place isn't with Lovren, Matip or Klavan, so it doesn't matter if they're worse than him. His competition is Robertson. And in two matches, I've seen enough to think Robertson is the better player.

And Superred, I can't help you if you don't see what a player does outside of what makes the highlights reel. I've already told you what his assist record is for Liverpool is, namely 1 every 11 starts, and it's not enough to offset how poor he is defensively.

Would he still have been our "best player" against Sevilla if he'd gotten a second yellow? Cos the ref bottled sending him off (and Machado about 10 minutes later too. And then inexplicably sent off Gomez for his only two tackles in the game), but he still made a daft yellow card challenge whilst already on a yellow. The fact that he got away with it doesn't it was smart. That's the sort of poorly thought out decision making that's defined Moreno's entire Liverpool career and will continue to do.

The reason we are such a good attacking team is because our fbs get forward, our cms get forward thus flooding the opposition box with red shirts. Moreno and taa fit our style very well. Defence minded full backs would not work so well in our system.

Last season moreno was just as lax at defending as he is now but his final ball wasn't good enough. This season his final ball has been brilliant. Whenever he gets the ball in opposition half we look like scoring. Another thing with moreno, and I know he is small, but he is tough little smegger. That seville defender who kept fouling mane, moreno had a quick word with mane and two minutes later the seville player is on his arse. I like that in a player.

Moreno has been decent this season - I can't understand fans constantly hounding and criticising him. Yes his game has flaws but he has improved significantly and looked far, far better this season. Is he rash? He has his moments and needs to work on them. Is he the best defensively? No, but he is decent and, with better centr backs helping him out he'd be able to play his game better. For me Robertson looks much more assured defensively but Moreno looks the better/ more incisive player in attack. They have both done decently so far this season - lynching Moreno when he has shown improvement is bizarre to me.

Spot on Seano. Good post mate.

17 Sep 2017 15:14:32
In fairness to the lad Moreno has improved.

17 Sep 2017 16:22:54
Until Robertson gets a few games we won't know how good he is at left back. Moreno has improved but he's had years at the club, we've just bought a Robertson and he's had a couple of games and being compared to guys here for years. Let's give Robertson the position and it's up to him then to either own it or lose it.

17 Sep 2017 19:34:31
Moreno is a head case and a red card and mistake waiting to happen even tho, he is yet to make the mistake. Also, the red card was very close to happening vs Sevilla and when he goes flying into tackles, my heart skips a beat.
