Starting a new post as this could get intersting.

Matip was signed as a starter, he started matches, did well and then probably got comfortable which saw his performances drop. Now he is back in the frame under Klopp reviving himself.

My point about Pepe is exactly that. He would have never signed for us unless he was going to take Salah's place. Klopp ain't that naive as Salah is a 1st eleven starter.

This brings me to another point, many are going on about our depth. Who should Klopp sign to play 4th fiddle when Salah, Firmino and Mane would be guaranteed a starting place?

So it will either be selling Origi and Brewster making space for a forward and singing backups who are willing to be 4th and 5th fiddle for our front 3.

Which brings me to another point, Matip and Gomez have to fight for the spot alongside VVD. Lovern is playing 4th fiddle so to sign backup to cover at CB surely any player that we might have been interested for arguments sake at CB would have looked at the situation and said well can I take VVD's place as you are not going to be wanting to fight it out for a place where 3 other players already at the club figting it out for one place as nobody going to replace VVD just like not even Pepe was likely to replace any of our starting front 3. That is why Klopp has not invested in our attack and has looked at backups but probably now has changed his mind with Origi doing well when called upon and Brewster doing well in preseason.

So let's say we had to sign Cornet, his club will still demand a high fee. In order for Cornet to make an impact he has to play. With Salah, Firmino and Salah nailed down, would Cornet actually make sense when he will have to wait in line with Origi and Brewster.

I believe Klopp should at least make a move for another attacking player but hom many minutes will that player get when the likes of Keita might struggle for minutes this season?

My choice for attacking cover would be Silas Wamangituka. As far as I know, we've had him watched and considering he's playing in the French second tier, he'd probably welcome the step up without being so demanding of first team football. Also, he absolutely works his arse off and would be a great player for a Klopp team.

{Ed025's Note - i think there should be a ban on signing players with daft names epic..

Haha, Ed025. Try telling that to Aston Villa. They've signed a player called Marvellous.

I agree with most of that maxlfc. I'd still quite like Cornet but as you alluded to, not if Lyon FC want a ridiculous price. I think he'd make sense in that he's more of a natural winger than Origi or Brewster, particularly on the left hand side where Shaq isn't nearly as effective.

He'd ultimately be a cover signing who likely wouldn't get the chance to step up unless one of the front three had an injury. That said, he's young enough where he might eventually improve/ impress enough to get chances. With the window closing so soon I doubt anything will happen anyway, but eventually bringing in/ promoting a young winger as cover would be useful.
