Morning Eds,

Just wondering if you have heard anymore developments with regards to willian carvalho. I'm expecting this guy to be the suprise stand out player for Portugal.
Thanks

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Carvalho from a number of clubs still and there have been fairly recent approaches by Monaco, Juventus, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid. Juventus and Chelsea have passed on previous interest because of the cost. Sporting would ideally like to keep him a year or two more. The asking price will likely beyond what Arsenal would want to pay. Atletico and Inter would look for a different solution financially. Jorge Mendes was in Manchester in late January to talk to the club about him and was in the UK at the end of March talking to another club about two players. Whether or not he met with Manchester United or not I don't know. At best I would think they have told him that they would like to take the player and would like to sit down with Sporting and him to see if a deal can be done - but they know the price and it is significant and there seems little room for negotiation. Liverpool looked at the player earlier in the year but I am not aware of any interest right now and the price would be far too high for the club. Monaco should not be discounted. It is understood that after the appointment of van Gaal an enquiry was made with Manchester United to establish if they were still interested in the player - and I understand that the club has said that they are.}

Super duper expensive, like totally unreasonable pricing.

Ed002,

The Rakitic deal is one that has really drawn my attention especially with him being a very good footballer. LFC clearly did not stand much of a chance signing him.

What I am lead to believe is that Rakitic was not willing to move from Spain so any offers from clubs outside that region were not going to be easy to complete?

Is there any chance you will be willing to tell us what fee Barcelona agreed with Sevilla?

Believable4 Unbelievable11

{Ed002's Note - There was a slim chance that Rakitic would agree a new deal with Sevilla who wanted to keep him but offers from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid were bound to be considered. Chelsea had rekindled interest with some recent discussions and the chance of a player moving in exchange - and they also recruited some assistance from his homeland to try and get a deal done, but they knew early on it would be a losing battle. Atletico dropped their interest once they knew they could keep hold of Koke which was enough for Barcelona to push through the transfer. Until the transfer is ratified and the figures provided to UEFA I cannot give an exact tranfer fee.}

I hope he has a good world cup, I've used him as a hidden gem in my fantasy team. Great player.

Ed's where do you see Antone Greizman signing for this summer?

Believable2 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Marseille, Rennes, Fiorentina and Lyon have shown some interest in Griezmann in the past year and repordedly Barcelona tool a look at one time. Whilst Griezmann has said on several occasions that he has no plans to leave Spain anytime soon, the financial problems being faced by Real Sociedad may still see him leave the club in the summer. He has had a good season which have led to enquiries being made by Juventus, Arsenal and Chelsea. Manchester United and PSG had the player watched on more than one occasion and both are looking toward making a transfer happen. Interest from Juventus has gone due to the asking price and Chelsea seem to have dropped their interest. }

Hi eds any truth in reports we are about to bid for Max Meyer from Schalke?

Believable10 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - Max Meyer of Schalke has attracted a lot of attention but a move to England will not happen until he has a walk-in opportunity at first team level.}

That's a shame, looks a top prospect.

I don't really understand players wanting "guaranteed" first team football. I mean now, more than ever, football is a squad game.

If you perform better than your team mates you play, if he thinks he is good enough to warrant a regular starting place at 18 then he should want to prove that.

In my eyes guaranteeing someone playing time is the start of s slippery slope. Guaranteeing them the chance to excel, now that's what BR does very well.
