Is it likely Ings will be shipped out this summer? Seems a good lad but can't see him getting much game time.

Believable2 Unbelievable12

{Ed002's Note - The club has made no efforts to sell him.}

13 Jul 2017 20:48:42
Hope not, the lad deserves his chance, he's just been unlucky, could understand a loan deal but not selling him.

Agree19 Disagree2

13 Jul 2017 22:48:53
Worst case scenario a loan.

Agree5 Disagree1

13 Jul 2017 23:24:16
Lads come in realistically he will not play this season. He is 4th choice and we play with one forward. Should go on loan to get much needed game time.

Agree6 Disagree11

13 Jul 2017 23:43:55
Sakho, you don't know he will be 4th choice. Could force his way ahead of Origi and Studger could spend time injured if things go to form.

Agree8 Disagree4

13 Jul 2017 23:55:23
Sakho is Boss, we've got loads of games potentially this year, so he has a chance to get himself in contention.

Agree5 Disagree2

14 Jul 2017 01:31:05
I'm excited by our striking options this year, and keep forgetting about Ings.

We've got 5 different players who can play up top, all of whom offer different skills, not least Solanke who offers the element of suprise to a lot of our opponents who won't have played against him before. To be honest Ings offers some of that too as he hasn't played for so long!

I did think going in for Auba was a good shout, but in hindsight, we don't have a limitless pot of money, and I'd rather stick with what we have and ensure we get a LB, CB and possible CM of high quality.

Agree4 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 01:39:32
I can see in getting some time to give lallana, mane or firminio a rest. I still think he'll be great and definitely a fan favorite!

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 03:16:13
We actually use three forward players. I know technically two are wingers but we don't always play that way. Injuries can happen and if ings stays fit should get a chance. Before all his injury worries he as tipped as future England star and was capped wasn't he? Could really surprise some I feel.

Agree4 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 07:34:50
I fit Ings is a better option than Origi in my opinion and has far more to offer so hopefully he can keep fit and show what he's worth this season.

Agree2 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 09:00:37
I don't understand the mentality of we already have 4 strikers so don't need anymore. if it's a upgrade get them. Ings and Origi are not good enough to push LFC to where they need to be so do something about it and go all out to get a top striker. Same with anywhere on the pitch if it's a improvement get them and sell what we don't need.

Agree5 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - im with you ruud..

14 Jul 2017 09:53:26
But Ruud, how can you say Ings isn't good enough? he hasn't had the chance to prove exactly what he's worth. I sincerely think the lad will shock doubters if he stays at Liverpool this season.

Origi showed signs of utter class last season, granted not all season but he's young, still learning, still adapting to the PL. You can't write him off just yet, he's 22, got plenty of time to shine.

It's not as easy as selling players and just going out and buying them mate, we're not in cash converters.

Solanke I don't expect to see a great deal of him this season but I hope we do of course, he might be one of them who shocks the league for all we know, that's the thing we just don't know yet.

Sturridge, injury free (I know, for now) but if he stays fit, he could prove to be the best player we have. A fully fit Sturridge is a top class striker, he will bang in goals for fun.

I don't believe buying a new striker will do anything for us, I'd rather go on the 4 lads above and see what they can do. Each to their own of course mate.

You've also got to think, it's not just the choice of strikers we already have, we've got Firmino, Coutinho, *Salah*, Mane who will also be scoring for fun.

Priority is defensive issues, not a striker, we're fine up there.

Agree6 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 11:37:22
I think your looking at it through rose tinted glasses teabag, I feel sorry for Ings but he's never been good enough for LFC but now with his knee injury history he will never be the same. At the minute Origi is not going to improve us and Sturridge's body has we all know is unfortunately not up to it.

You don't win anything without a top striker so it's time to get ruthless and get rid of the dead wood.

Agree2 Disagree3

14 Jul 2017 12:20:51
With Salah, mane, firminio and couts as first team starters where exactly we going to play an expensive striker? No top player will come to be a bit part player.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 13:56:18
No one knows how or in what shape Ings will be after coming back from his third devastating knee injury in his career (second in two straight years) so the more pressing question is, will he be able to prove his fitness before you can even say if he will be an option for us or go out on loan to get games and further his development there. That is the question.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 14:31:54
the thing with Ings for me, is I absolutely admire his attitude to get fit etc, but I'm yet to see anything that would lead be to believe he could lead the line for a team with aspirations of winning a league/ being champions league regulars at the very least. Whilst I'm not saying I don't believe he is capable, he's had a torrid time with injuries which surely will have taken their toll, and we've all had very limited exposure to his abilities, so surely a loan makes absolute sense. He needs to show us the injuries haven't impacted him and get a full season under his belt.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i like ings clarkey, but if your talking winning the league and doing well in the CL then an upgrade on him is paramount mate..

14 Jul 2017 14:54:56
Saying a player has got plenty of time to shine is rubbish. All layers have plenty of time to shine but how long do we give them. Liverpool want to be challenging for the league and cups now not when players eventually start to shine which could be 2,3,4 years. If a player out there is better than Origi is now and is available for a decent price, why shouldn't we go for them.

Agree1 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 15:24:30
Wouldn't be surprised to see luan in red next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 15:50:42
You think he's luan for us, Superred?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 18:16:52
Hi Eds, are their any striker targets outs there. Obviously someone would have to leave in order for someone to come in. Who are the clubs options and who have they been scouting. Recently Klopp said Solanke is a long term project, which does not mean much if he plays well he plays well.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Of the strikers that Liverpool were known to have looked at leading up to the summer the vast majority have signed new contracts, moved elsewhere or decided to stay where they are except Luan - and right now it is another side who are attempting to get an offer accepted.}

13 Jul 2017 19:11:09
Solanke, Sturridge, Firmino, Origi and Ings. It is highly unlikely that we are looking to add to the striker department at this point. What people seem to forget is that we play with a front three. Place for one striker. Mane and Salah will not be occupying the bench.

Along with that, Klopp did make it clear that replacing Sturridge is going to cost an awful amount of money. Injuries aside, are there any strikers available without blowing an obscene amount as good as Sturridge?

Agree12 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 18:48:21
Hi Ed002, in the shark pod you mentioned Azmoun, Dembele, Marega and Andre Silva. I would guess Azmoun and Dembele are completely out of the question now, but did we ever follow up anything on Marega or Silva? Silva in particular would be great in my opinion as he can play anywhere across a front 3. After the sharkopod though, they haven't been mentioned since.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Andre Silva has moved elsewhere. MM has extended his contract on loan for another year.}

13 Jul 2017 18:52:46
Luan is class, finger crossed we can scoop in. Won't hold my breath, thanks Ed002 for the quick response. Scary seeing all of our rivals strengthening, hopefully we don't get left behind.

Agree4 Disagree8

13 Jul 2017 19:10:07
We were 4th top scorers in the league without a 20 a season scorer and the teams that did have one were not far ahead. As much as I'd like an Aubemeyang or Lacazette would that really have made much difference when the real problem was defence and a soft centre in midfield at times.

Agree7 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 19:35:16
Agree with Max on this one.

We'd all love a world class striker but it just isn't a priority and it costs a fortune to buy the calibre of proven striker we are talking about here.

The value isn't there for that type of proven player this window. Case in point Lukakus recent mega bucks move.

That's the type of money we'd have to pay and if we're al honest that money needs to be spent on the defence.

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 19:42:15
maxlfc, agree 110% with you. Solanke is a good addition, Ed002 has spoken very highly of his ability and from what I've seen he's got confidence to go with that.

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Jul 2017 19:54:45
I'd like to see Sturridge kept and started against teams that pack it in next season. Basically have two different systems, one with a high press with Firmino leading the line, and another with Sturridge leading the line when a potent finisher is needed more due to a dearth of chances.

Agree6 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 19:50:28
I personally think Sturridge is our best finisher by a mile. It's just frustrating that because of the type of player he is He's more prone to injury. What's your opinion on the striking options Eds?

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Please read the posts.}

13 Jul 2017 20:44:08
In a front 3 it's firmino isn't it. DS wasnt injured for the whole of last season but he couldn't get in front of Bobby OR origi. He's (DS) an amazing player, we saw that in 442 formation at end of season but hd doesn't fit with klopps style of football. Luan does imo he can make goals as well as finish them. Works hard for team mates. Thing is do we risk unsettling sturridge and trying to sell him when we don't know if A, we can get the price we want for him and B, we don't know if we can sign luan. Have always thought luan rumour had meat on the bone and I won't be surprised if we sell sturridge this summer. I will be sad though.

Agree0 Disagree4

13 Jul 2017 22:27:51
Jansens it depends on what you want. To just tweak one or two bits at the back and hope to scrape success or try to improve either end, with more chances being created by the players in the middle, and have a real shot at top place. The league isn't decided by how many you score or concede if you don't win enough games and that was a problem at both ends, conceding against weaker sides and failing to score against them.

Agree2 Disagree1

13 Jul 2017 23:50:12
Don't need another striker mate! Well stocked there! A CM, LB and CB.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 00:53:10
Having a 20+ a season goal scorer is a nice option to have, I'd rather have goals from all over the park if I had to choose between the two. Don't get me wrong though to have both would be great.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 00:59:46
Salah can play as a striker. In fact, most of his goals come from him reading where the ball will fall when other players take shots. He's an excellent poacher and lightening quick. I'd rather see him as the striker and Bobby and Mane buzzing around him. Both decent goalscorers themselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 01:07:13
Luan won't be signed and DS won't be sold. I'm not in the know in any way but no efforts have been made there so it's not hard to deduct that a striker won't be added. The rest of the month will go by very quickly and we seem to be going for a CM, LB and CB. Stop daydreaming about a striker. we got enough as it is and some exciting youngsters.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 14:04:26
Crystal Palace do not have interest in Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho. They complete their signing of Jairo Riedewald this week, who is a left CB (same position as Sakho) and wouldn't sign if he was playing second fiddle to Mamadou.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

13 Jul 2017 14:40:55
That's a shame on two counts.

1. We need to find a buyer for Sakho ASAP
2. I think Jairo Riedewald looks like a excellent young centre back who should do very well for Palace (he will likely be linked to us next summer for £50mill haha)

Agree8 Disagree3

13 Jul 2017 15:22:15
Sakho will end up at Stoke city! Should have sold him at £25 mill immediately after the loan spell!

Agree4 Disagree3

13 Jul 2017 15:33:25
Still think sahko would be a good signing for liverpool. Saves us 70 million although I reckon sahko and van dyke would be an absolutely awesome defensive partnership. The dark destroyers. Surely if we are to sign vvd then one of our cbs has to go. I know gomez could be off but are lovren and matip or sahko and vvd prepared to sit on the bench. If sahko stays then surely vvd isn't happening?

Agree3 Disagree16

13 Jul 2017 16:10:11
Rumour has it we upped the price last minute on Sakho deal with Palace and that was why they lost interest. Do the Eds know anything on that? True or not etc? (Heard from a Palace supporter) .

Also people need to make a choice do you want Sakho or Klopp because it has been made clear now it isn't going to be both.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any change to the price. Liverpool set a price that CP thought was too high but they were willing to negotiate - but Liverpool did not want to reduce the price. Right now they have nipped in to grab Everton target Jairo Riedewald and thet may end interest in Sakho. The other side who were keen is Stoke - but again a reluctance to negotiate has made them turn to Kurt Zouma. Previously West Brom were interested and they might still be an option, I don't know.}

13 Jul 2017 17:17:54
Heard Spurs also held an interest in Sakho, any chance they'd place a bid Eds?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - His representative spoke with them a while back - but he spoke with lots of people.}

13 Jul 2017 20:01:45
I'm not sure that I would consider anyone in their right mind if they preferred Sakho to Klopp. The improvement in Liverpool's style (and position in the League) from post-Suarez Rodgers to Klopp cannot be understated. Klopp is not without his faults (namely the transfer tapping up blunders) but the players love him and would run through a brick wall for him. He gets 100% from every player, and we can see with what happened at Chelsea last season what happens when players buy into a manager's philosophy and fight for him. I can't name another manager who would realistically come to Liverpool and be an improvement.

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 22:29:44
Thanks Ed002 for the detailed answer do you see him getting a team in the summer?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know but his agent and the player have permission to talk to anyone they can to get him out of the club.}

14 Jul 2017 01:18:46
So LFC lowball teams with offers of players we want and drag negotiations for a month trying to get cheaper deals for players (risking missing out on targets) and aren't willing to let go a player for a few less millions (MS to Palace)? What is wrong with our transfer "experts"?!

Agree1 Disagree2

13 Jul 2017 12:00:55
Have we shown an interest in tierney Eds the left back for Celtic, seen him last season looks a great player, thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - yes but he is not interested in moving from them at the moment and they are not interested in selling him.}

13 Jul 2017 12:10:04
Thanks for the reply Eds.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

13 Jul 2017 13:18:21
Here's an old school rumour for you. He's from the Isle of Man, like me, and a guy I know who's heavily involved with various sports over here said that he talks to him every couple of months. Tierney apparently said he's got no intention of leaving Celtic at the moment, but when he does, it'll most likely be to Man United.

Agree5 Disagree4

13 Jul 2017 14:43:24
So they guy is pretty confident that he'll be on United's wish list then? I'm sure Mourinho has already told him he's gonnae but him.

Ok Tierney pal, nae bother.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 19:29:33
I heard that he was a United fan (aside from Celtic) and wouldn't consider a move anywhere else.

13 Jul 2017 09:49:52
Morning Ed's, reading this morning that Klopp may give Sakho a lifeline to reignite his Liverpool career. He stated "He needs to get 100% fit and then we will see". Is this just ensuring we get the price we want for him or is he considering keeping him.

Thanks.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is about getting a good price. He would have to show a major change in attitude to stay.}

13 Jul 2017 09:57:39
If we're looking to sign a CB but are unable to sign one could we see sakho playing for us next season should his attitude change? Highly unlikely he will play competitively for us again.

Agree8 Disagree1

13 Jul 2017 09:57:40
Thanks Ed001, just interested in your thoughts, would you keep him, sell him and give young Gomez the opportunity or bring in another cb.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - sell him and give Gomez a shot.}

13 Jul 2017 10:03:16
Fully agree, you have a good mate and thanks for the response.

Agree7 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate and cheers.}

13 Jul 2017 10:12:07
You can't challange for a premier league with gomez at CB. You need more, CBs need experience. If gomez is the future we should have signed pepe on a free for 2 years to guide him.

Agree5 Disagree20

{Ed001's Note - that is just nonsense. Leicester managed it with Huth and Morgan as their backline, neither are any good on their own. It is about partnerships and playing to player's strengths, as much as individual quality.}

13 Jul 2017 11:00:05
Being able to keep him would be just like a new signing!
I hope really Klopp will change his mind, but Sakho needs to have some discipline first.

Agree8 Disagree3

13 Jul 2017 11:04:24
I wish this Leicester thing never happened its all anyone reverts back too. Do you think liverpool will challange for the league with the CBs we have then ed?

Agree4 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - I wish people would stop going on about the quality of players with such stupid posts. Cahill is not a good player, but he was good enough to win the league more than once. There is a lot more to it than simply having the best players.

I am far more worried about our full backs than anything else. They simply do not suit the way we play. Now please stop asking dumb questions, it is not only about the centre backs as to whether we challenge or not. This is just wasting my time.}

13 Jul 2017 11:07:33
Would love to see Gomez given a chance, he seemed very composed yesterday and can win the ball without going to ground and pass the ball around a bit. Would be great to see him given a chance at CB.

Agree7 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 11:54:34
Man Utd won loads of league titles with players such as Brown and O'Shea. Its not about CB's or the full backs or even the goalkeeper. Defending is a collective thing, a group. Defending as a unit is key.

Agree13 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am so glad someone gets it. Our issue is that we still haven't got that bit sorted. It was starting to improve at the end of the season though, with Migs making strides, the rest looked better.}

13 Jul 2017 12:11:56
They also had vidic and rio and van der sar. how can you compare the two? Living in cloud cookoo land.

Agree5 Disagree8

13 Jul 2017 12:17:59
Anyway we will see how it goes won't we. But ill be back to tell you i told you so. And if im wrong ill eat a humble pie.

Agree0 Disagree11

{Ed001's Note - don't bother I am not 5 years old and no one cares but you whether you were right or not.}

13 Jul 2017 12:20:02
Sakho is so far away from being what we need. I've never seen a team line-up before a game and thought 'thank god, Sakhos in, we'll be fine'.
Not entirely sure Gomez is what we need either but then can't say I've seen enough to him to make an honest judgment.

Agree2 Disagree9

13 Jul 2017 13:03:59
Win the title with lovren and moreno as our defenders. please let us try and be honest with ourselves. And putting a lot of responsibility and pressure on the young lad Gomez is a little bit premature don't you think ed.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - to be third choice? If he is not up to it then we need to know, rather than just waiting around for years and giving him no chance to find out one way or the other. I saw people clamouring for the likes of Ake etc who are not much older. It is time we started giving our own youngsters a go rather than buying them in.}

13 Jul 2017 14:01:22
I don't think people have a problem with Gomez getting a chance, just maybe at 4th choice CB not 3rd. That way we get to have more choice on when is best to play him. I am concerned that we can easily end up having to play with an untested CB in Gomez and Kalvan for large parts of the season if the other two CBs have a repeat of last seasons injury problems.
I also get what people are saying regarding defending as a unit, but the system that Klopp plays doesn't really do that. The CBs are often exposed with the fullbacks pushing so far up the pitch, add to that a lack of a proper disciplined CDM. I think with this in mind then individual quality from our CBs is quite important.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - actually the way we play emphasises the need for defending as a unit, not lessens it.}

13 Jul 2017 14:44:44
I think Sakho is the best centre back at the club but I think the ship has well and truely sailed with him. Shame as he seemed a good character, obviously over stepped the mark once too many and I don't think Klopp is the type of guy to change his mind.

Agree4 Disagree2

13 Jul 2017 15:13:40
You act 5 a lot of the time. everyone is entiitled to voice an opinion and if you don't agree you jumo on your high horse.

Agree7 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - if you say so. I don't know why you bother wasting my time talking to me then. I would be quite happy if you didn't bother. Especially considering the bull you have posted recently, be doing us all a favour if you took your lies about Aubamayeng signing etc elsewhere.}

13 Jul 2017 16:14:41
How is Gomez or any player supposed to get experience if people keep taking the view they're not experienced enough and we should sign other players instead. You can't loan someone out for years and years and expect they will come back and be happy and efficient when the other player you brought in has finally finished playing.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 16:18:00
I agree with demicis in the respect that while utd had o shea and brown they also had rio and vidic. We simply don't have a defender anywhere near the class of those two. At the same time I totally agree about defences being a collective thing. Remember how good henchoz was with hypia and no one would've said before hand that stefan henchoz was a world beating centre back. No need to be rude to the guys that make this page as good as it is (read about salah here way before it was all over papers) as a note, I would like to see gomes get a bit of game time somewhere before we trust him with our title challenge. He looks a PROPER prospect but tranmere ain't chelsea. Tranmere aren't even Swansea. No where close. Brighton loan would suit all parties I think.

It's about proper coaching and organisation. you do that right and your pretty much there. I've seen the best centre halves on the planet make horrific errors.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 19:07:09
If Sakho were to stay I'd like Klopp to give him a chance alongside Matip because I think they would complement exact other better than Lovren and Matip. For me I'd rather see Sakho change his attitude and earn himself another chance than us going out and spending stupid money on a CB that isn't that much better than we currently have (VVD, I'm not slating VVD because he is better than what we currently have but I don't value him at £60 mil+ so I'd rather keep that money and sign quality fullbacks)

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 19:51:51
While from a monetary standpoint, I would love for us to just keep Sakho, but I don't see how he suits our style. He's best fit in a team that packs it in. He's strong in the tackle, but is a nightmare with a high line, getting caught out of position and making rash decisions (something I see VVD doing often as well) . I think Lovren and Matip can do just fine if proper outside backs are brought in, and Mignolet becomes a strong communicator with the entire back line. As has been said, defending is best done as a unit, and in Klopp's system (high press) more cohesion is needed than any other system due to players pushing forward out of possession rather than getting everyone behind the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 19:56:35
Our defence looks week due to 2 poor full backs and a keeper that does not communicate and organise his defence.
Sort these area's out and suddenly it a new ball game.
How does Gomez get expeariance if he is 3rd choice. I'd go further and say I hope klavenleaves so Gomez has to play.
He has always looked accomplished whenever I see him.

Also our main problem against the smaller teams is getting hit on the break and crumbling, I'd like to see a change in formation against these teams afford a bit more protection against this. 4.2.3.1.
It would first sure up the defence and secondly allow for a creative player like coutinho to drop deeper and affect the play more. with 2 pacy wingers and stude upfront.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jul 2017 22:24:05
It is a telling problem that the right footed career midfielder at left back seemed to have more idea to deal with wingers trying to cross than the right footed career defender at right back. If that doesn't improve the CBs and the keeper will be getting bombarded anyway.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 01:57:01
I hope all our CBs will be better this season. You'd think by now they'll be more used to playing the high press and will have learnt from their mistakes from last season, you'd hope. Also more experience playing together and Migs haveing improved should also help.

wait and see, but definitely give Gomez a run!

I do think there is an element of you have to accept you are going to be caught out a few times if you play very high up the pitch for your back line.
