So read a couple of sites today saying that Klipperty is looking to bring in Kevin volland this summer. I was wondering if the eds have heard anything about this. Both reports seem to suggest that he has a release clause in his contract of £14.5m which seems very low for a player of his quality.

Have to say I would love to see him come to Liverpool hI'm and Firminio looked lethal together last year. I know we are overstocked with players at the moment and any interest would be subject to making room first.

Believable3 Unbelievable16

{Ed001's Note - I know nothing of release clauses just that he is a player Klopp identified as a player he would like checked out extensively, with a view to potentially attempting to sign him. That was one of the first names he put forward after joining.}

13 May 2016 21:01:29
Ed you've said you don't expect anything to happen with Volland this summer, is there is a particular reason for that such as Hoffenheim unwilling to sell?

The naysayers won't be happy! A left footed right forward who cuts inside? Whisper it quietly mate.

Is he better than what we've already got?

Not clear cut in my opinion, he doesn't exactly shine in the weaker slower Bundesliga. Looks a very limited player to me, I prefer Markovic to him.

Ron he is currently much better than ibe and ojo who both need loans. Ibe to sort of get back on track and ojo to continue his development. Hopefully both go to PL clubs. If that is to happen we need a new winger (I think we need one regardless as we have none that are good enough) . Markovic and a new winger would be great additions going into the new season. And if that new winger is volland then I'd be pretty happy. Imagine who we would sign under Rogers.

He doesn't even impress on YouTube and that's saying something!

He reminds me of a quicker Kuyt, not a bad thing. Once we have bought a top world class GK, CB and LB, we sell all that want/ need to be sold then we can look at this and see what cash we have.

Kevin Volland can play left wing, right wing and striker. He is pretty good at all of them. It seems he is a player Klopp is very much interested in going by the Ed's comments regarding Klopp wanting him watched extensively. Would be a good signing IMO.

Did a bit of YouTube scouting (I know)
But as I was watching him I was wondering do we have any players currently here who do what he does? And no I don't think we do.
He is defo a winger for starters who can play both sides,
But unlike anyone we have he's someone who actually either gets himself or the ball into the opposition box very quickly and his balls are a lot more accurate than say Morenos or millers, we seem so slow in attacking sometimes, this guy would be great in the counter attack and high press.
In one video, his first goal was an absolute peach of a free kick so hopefully he's a good free kick taker as well, something we are also sadly missing, if he can take corner kicks as well then that's another bonus as I don't think I have seen many beat the first man since the days of Kenny.
His stats on the video where played 30, scored 9 and assisted 6 if I remember right? I can't see Ibe or Ojo scoring that next season, (in future yes) .
Ibe and Ojo don't seem ready at all for me, after watching this fella it's obvious we either need him or a similar type player as that type of player is a dimension we severely lack right now, Ojo could be his understudy and eventual replacement.
One thing I did think was, Origi especially would shine playing alongside volland, origis pace, power, positioning and explosive runs would give volland something to aim for all game.
Maybe if we had Volland on the left wing providing width and forward runs Moreno and smith might stay in position at left back and actually defend? But maybe that's wishful thinking haha.

14 May 2016 10:41:18
How do you guys think Ibe and Ojo will become ready? By shipping them out on loan or persevering with their development by playing in the LFC first team at the appropriate time? If we see players that are only marginally better than our youngsters (Ibe and Ojo are 20 years old or younger) how can they get better? Volland has several more experience of top league first team level than they do, so naturally he might be better today.

Agree2 Disagree11

14 May 2016 10:54:50
In regards to Ibe and Ojo getting ready then I don't know really, but in my opinion looking in from the outside I would say Ibe needs a loan to get out the spotlight here at Liverpool and get more gametime so he can concentrate on his game.
Ojo, like I said I would have as backup/ understudy to volland or similar as he will get gametime and top class coaching from Klopp, I'm not sure a loan would be in his or the clubs best interests, unlike Ibe.

14 May 2016 12:59:23
The concern is that if the reserve leagues are now as weak as everyone says they are then loans are the only way to bridge the gap between 16-18 year olds coming out of academy and first team. But then the loans have to be relevant, i. e. right level, playing the right style or else they go off, play lots of games but still have to learn to step up to the level and play the way the manager wants. Ibe may be a symptom of the bigger problem we have. He has ability but has hit that gap between too good for age group but not ready for regular first team. At which point he stagnates, others like Wisdom have done the same. We keep talking about the talent in the academy and the potential is there but unless a way can be found to bridge that gap then we will just be producing players who leave at 18-21 to play elsewhere, usually at a lower level.

In regards to Kevin Volland.

I think Volland is exactly the type of player Klopp is looking for i. e. If a young Dirk Kuyt was still in our team he would be a key player for Klopp and Volland is in a similar vein, however with a bit more in his locker than Kuyt had in terms of technical ability and speed.

As evidenced by Klopp playing Firmino as a false 9 away against Villarreal and at several other times, it would appear that depending on opposition Klopp likes to use a defensive forward or false 9 option, Volland would suit this position very well. As previously stated Volland can also play on either wing making him very adaptable just like Kuyt. I think Volland would be primarily used as a false 9 striker in away fixtures against low-mid table opponents where we have struggled this season, with Sturridge primarily being saved for the bigger games, Europe (if we make UCL) and at home, or coming off the bench as an impact player against weaker teams if needed. If Sturridge is not satisfied with this role then I think Klopp will look to move him on and don't be surprised if a bid for Gonzalo Higuain was put forward if we make the UCL. Otherwise Klopp might plump for Alexandre Lacazette to fill the void.

In terms of our forward options Volland would complement what we currently have and no doubt we will offload Benteke for about GBP25m which is close to what Hoffenheim will probably ask for. Volland also was very well suited playing with Firmino at Hoffenheim and it would be great to see that partnership flourish again at Anfield.

If we went into next season with Sturridge, Origi, Volland, and Ings as our strikers we would not struggle for goals.

Hi eds

Would we be going back in for alex teixeira in the summer or has all interest gone now?

Believable1 Unbelievable22

{Ed002's Note - No, Teixeira will not be moving to Liverpool. It is not totally out of the question that he may have a loan to anotherse though.}

helo eds
ive been reading a report from the liverpool echo that klipperty is looking at this guy Antonio Rudiger what do you no of him and is he a target we've looked at to bring to lfc. thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable18

{Ed002's Note - Antonia Rudiger is on a loan to buy deal with Roma - Wolfsburg could still be interested if the option is not exercised, but I expect Roma buy him to sell on at a profit. Chelsea have had him watched and have held discussions with Stuttgart, but they say it is out of their hands. Roma are aware of interest from Chelsea and Wolfsburg, but the latter would be reluctant to pay the asking price. Another Premier League side, not Liverpool, scouted Rudiger but took it no further.}

13 May 2016 10:27:29
thanks for the reply eds, liverpool echo are usualy pritty good with there information i mean they just don't spread roumours but thanks for that info.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know anything of the Liverpool Echo and I doubt they would make things up deliberately, but I suspect they do pass on what they find via other media outlets.}

cheers ed002 i think you may be correct, as a rule i only read the articles from the liverpool echo then i check here. if you haven't oked it then i beleive it won't happen. thanks for speendind your time answering my post.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

13 May 2016 09:33:46
Eds, have you heard of anny update on the Gotze situation? The internet blew up a little last night when Tony Barrett said we were in on going talks with his representatives, any truth to this?

Thanks!

Believable2 Unbelievable19

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation. I am not sure the benefit of "on going talks with his representatives" but if Liverpool want Goetze they need to put an offer to Bayern Munich who are keen to move him on.}

13 May 2016 11:14:03
If one of coutinho, lallana or firmino is not leaving i don't see the need for gotze. Unless the game plan is to throw a load of numer 10s on the pitch and hope it works.

Agree10 Disagree19

13 May 2016 11:41:11
Im sure lallana will be off to spuds to pay for the goetze deal. Lallana has been great but goetze is an improvement and younger. if he works out could even increase in value unlike lallane.

Agree4 Disagree16

13 May 2016 12:13:56
Imo Lallana won't go to Spuds or anywere else and I think Klopp sees him as an integral part of his plans and first to press the opposition.

If were moving on the likes of Benteke, Ibe, Abd possibly others then Goetze would make sense.

I doubt the talks are ongoing though and like Ed has said if we are interested we no what we need to do.

Agree4 Disagree18

13 May 2016 12:46:36
If we win on Wednesday then we'll be in the Champions League - meaning that there will need to be a lot of rotation.

Adding Goetze to the squad just means that we'll have better options the game before/ after a big champions league tie or better options from the bench surely?

Four doesn't go into three in a single game but certainly does over the course of a season.

Agree4 Disagree20

13 May 2016 18:01:38
Mick If we win Wednesday we will have less games next season as we won't have to qualify for any European compition.
Considering Klopp has made 50 games quicker than any other Liverpool manager he should be used to the busy schedule now. Also I doubt Goetze would be happy sitting on the bench either.

Agree0 Disagree18

14 May 2016 07:06:27
All of our current "number 10's" are versatile and can be used effectively as wingers.
We have very little depth to the side and even if we bring in 2 new wingers we don't have any quality replacements should we pick up injuries.

13 May 2016 07:01:47
Hi ed002. Just curious if you know of any talks between Liverpool and any clubs on transfers, selling or buying. I'm sure clubs constantly discuss player availability, I'm just wondering if there's anything with some potential.

Believable0 Unbelievable18

{Ed002's Note - Obviously talks happen on a regular basis and often agents are involved in those discussions. Liverpool has made an approach to Udinese as has been explained. At any one moment in time I cannot easily say what is happening. The club has looked at a lot of players and will be deciding where the efforts need to be concentrated. But they also have a very bloated squad and a number of players returning from loan which means there needs to be a significant cull. And to complicate matters further Liverpool will lose players to at least two major tournaments over the summer, and perhaps three. I have tried to drag back on the reins where folks are going overboard with these "offers" being made for several players everyday which they are asking about. Take Horn as an example, Liverpool has looked at him but they have not yet made an offer - perhaps they will. Goetze has been the focus of much attention - if Liverpool want to buy him they need to wander along with their cheque book in hand - but they have not yet made an offer. And with a couple of games to play Liverpool will not want to be disruptive to the squad.}

13 May 2016 10:19:39
Thank you ed. appreciate your time.

Agree1 Disagree16

{Ed002's Note - No problem.}

13 May 2016 12:55:18
Ed002, this might be a really daft question - apologies if it is - but if someone in the club makes an offer for a player in another club does it become fairly common knowledge amongst the players? Is that what you mean by not wanting to be disruptive to the squad? Anyway, I totally agree that the only thing we should be focused on at the moment is sunday and next wednesday, then we can sort out the transfers in and out after that.

Agree3 Disagree17

{Ed002's Note - Generally yes. But keep in mind that in most cases football players are not very bright so it doesn't necessarily bother them.}

14 May 2016 22:19:58
Haha, fair enough. Point taken.

Yeah, just read the dumbass Express' headline 'Liverpool Done Deal! ' and knew it wasn't anything major. Liverpool have agreed a deal to bring Bayern Munich dietitian Mona Nemmer to Anfield. Does that mean there was something not quite right before? Did Rodgers have them on a diet of Irish stew and potato farls? Is that why mama was so portly? :)

13 May 2016 09:10:48
Ojo definitely is too chunky for a winger winger right now. In the academy he was more slight and it definitely makes a difference to how you can play. So there was one problem evidently with the advice he was getting or lack thereof.
