Shaqiri is looking likely, not sure if there has been a bid but the signals are looking good, will try to find out more.

Navas is impressive so far. Are we looking to sign him or was that just a rumor?

Believable6 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Levante goalkeeper Keylor Navas is an option for Napoli and Atletico Madrid. Additionally, Marseille, Wigan and Everton have shown interest in the player in recent months, but the strong interest from Milan has now gone. I am aware that Liverpool had the player watched earlier in the year, but a move to simply sit on the bench at Liverpool is not at all likely - he would want commitments about playing time. Levante would like to keep him but it might be difficult.}

Ed, thank you for your response, just my opinion, but he looked strong in the air and his distribution was really good, I would think that he would get playing time. Having said that, it was the only time I've seen him play, I'm sure the scouts have seen him more.

Hi Ed,

Was just scouting through the posts and used the search function but I can't seem to find out if we have made a bid for Shaqiri or not, do you know if we have bid or just expressed interest in him?

Cheers

Believable8 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of a bid at this time.}

Cheers for the reply Ed

Do you expect a bid ed?

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Why the heck not.}

Seriously is our interest strong enough to bid.

No was on another website and saw a possible exclusive being mentioned . perhaps made up from rumour's of LFC being intrested in some bayern player's.

{Ed002's Note - Exciting times ahead then.}

Ed002

I may be mistaken, but in all the years I have looked at this site you have never recommended a player as one Liverpool should buy; not your style.

But I think the one exception was Javi Martinez, maybe 3-4 years ago when most of us had never heard of him. Is that correct, it was at a time when everyone was posting about possible replacements for Stevie G?

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I may well of done.}

14 Jun 2014 18:12:34
Hi eds do you know of any interest in Alex Sandro?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Previously Dinamo Kyiv showed an interest in Alex Sandro and Inter, Manchester United and Chelsea looked at the player as a potential replacement for Yuto Nagatomo, Patrice Evra (who sigened a new deal) and Ashley Cole respectively but he is not the first choice option for any of these sides. However, the sustained interest is from Napoli. Inter and Chelsea have moved their interest to other left backs.}

Hello Eds,

I am sorry to bother you about Moreno again. But it has all gone very quiet after you said that the issue was regarding the payment structure. Is the move still on or has Liverpool pulled out completely?

Do you think Moreno is overpriced and we can get better and cheaper options over him?

Thanks in advance! By the way, who are you supporting in the World cup?. :)

Regards, Ashish

Believable4 Unbelievable11

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has really changed. Liverpool need to raise the money to make the upfront payment Atletico want or they need to look elsewhere. As has been explained, Liverpool spoke again with Ryan Bertrand's agent recently.}

14 Jun 2014 17:35:08
There's no rush. the window isn't even open yet just chill.

Agree1 Disagree2

Cannot beleive Lfc r even intrested in bertrand, average player at best.
I beleive Moreno is a done deal n cannot see going anywhere else.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool know what they need to do to complete the transfer of Moreno. It is certainly not a "done deal" at this time. Bertrand has both a Champions League winners medal and a Premier League winners medal so he is not too bad.}

So has mikel but he is shocking

Agree2 Disagree1

14 Jun 2014 23:39:07
How are Liverpool allowed to talk to Bertrand's agent if we haven't yet had an offer accepted or even made an offer for him?
Isn't that illegal in football?
Forgive me if I'm wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is the player the club cannot approach. Clubs talk to agents all of the time.}

Ah okay, I get ya.
Kind of a pointless law then isn't it as seen as the agent is an extension of the player as such.
But thanks for clearing that up for me.
So that's where the Suarez 40 million plus a pound thing possibly came from last summer then.
Football and it's silly laws eh.
No wonder John Henry said contracts mean nothing in football.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not pointless. There would be no transfers if clubs and agents didn't talk.}

I was referring to players not being allowed to speak DIRECTLY to clubs before a fee is agreed.
They, as you said yourself are not allowed to speak to a club until given permission but their agent can speak to an interested club at any time.
That's what I referred to as being pointless.
The agent will just go to the player and tell him what his potential new club have said and vice versa.
What's the point of that law then?!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So you would be cool with Barcelona and Real Madrid talking with Suarez at any point would you. An interesting thought.}

Hey ed, not necessarily Liverpool related but I was just curious if any Americans were of interest to any major European teams. Aron johannson perhaps? Thanks in advance. Or if Julian green is valued highly at Bayern Munich.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Yes there are players from the States who are of interest to teams throughout Europe. There were 150 or so Americans playing in Europe this past season.

Aron Johannsson is already playing in Europe so I don't really understand that question. Julian Green is just a kid, but well thought of.}

Can anyone else see the similarities between Sterling and Robben?

The running style, bursts of pace, skill, movement etc.

Red Rum

Believable39 Unbelievable22

They both run on their toes with their hands more upright

Agree1 Disagree0

That thing that some players do with their hands when they're running with the ball, where they curl their wrists like they've got arthritis, what is that all about?!

I've just heard that we are possibly looking at javi Martinez of Bayern Munich?
Just wondering if the eds could shed some light on Martinez situation at Bayern?!
And plus I was thinking that if we've signed Emre Can would he be a replacement for Lucas or just to give more competition in midfield?
Any help would be much appreciated!?
Great site eds!
Neilyd

Believable1 Unbelievable10

{Ed002's Note - Javi Martinez is of interest to Napoli and Barcelona. I am not aware of Liverpool looking to sell Lucas.}

Cheers eds for the reply!
So we ain't looking to sell Lucas? I've got the wrong end of the stick!. I've been told that he was looking for a move away from Liverpool and either inter or ac Milan were interested, Hence why we pushed to get Can?
Cheers again eds
Neilyd

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If Lucas becomes available at the right price there may well be interest from Inter.}

Anyone in for Hamsik this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable10

{Ed002's Note - If Hamsik were to move then the EPL might well be an option. But for now that does not look like the case.}

14 Jun 2014 09:12:08
Wolves have made a £1.5 million bid for Liverpool midfielder Conor Coady.

Believable27 Unbelievable17

14 Jun 2014 12:48:37
Hope Connor finds somewhere better than Wolves to continue his career.

Good luck, Conor. Go to a team where you can play every game and you will end up back in the BPL.

Who is interested in Julian Draxler

Believable2 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - There have been offers and enquiries for Draxler. Both Milan clubs, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea have enquired at one level or another about Draxler - each has met a "not for sale" barrier. I expected a deal might be brokered this summer and Arsenal are the team that have consistently pushed for a deal. The player has given mixed responses to interest from Arsenal and they will have moved on now. PSG are looking for a player of that style but are likely looking elsewhere now. Schalke don't want to sell but another option to be offered by Bayern Munich and AC Milan is a pre-payment and a one year loan back to Schalke. Although I think the chance of a move to Italy very unlikely now with Milan's interest elsewhere.}

Morning Eds,

The last couple of windows looked, on the face of it, to be a little frustrating for BR and the fans. Maybe a case of BR identifying his man, and then the club not committing to a deal due to financial constraints or other issues. With this in mind, do we know whether BR asked for more control over signing/ selling before agreeing to his new contract?

Believable11 Unbelievable13

{Ed002's Note - BR got the players he asked for in most cases - Kolo Touré, Tiago Ilori, Mamadou Sakho, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Simon Mignolet and the loans of Victor Moses and Aly Cissokho. He has less control now given his poor track record.}

BR is a very good tactician and manager, but it is starting to look like he's a poor judge in terms of buying players, and I'd be more than happy if more control was given to others, whether that be senior scouts, proven experts or whatever.

No club or manager will ever get all their transfers right (Rafa and Kenny both bought a number of absolute whoppers, for example, and even the wily old Ferguson bought the odd wrong 'un).
There will always be some new signings who for whatever reason simply don't work out. But BR's 'failure' rate does seem higher than you would hope.
Surely the club simply cannot afford to allow him to continue having a major say in buying players, when the majority are turning out to be poor choices and thus rarely get played- and I would hope he is grounded and objective enough to see that his record in this respect is not very good.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That has all happened.}

Thanks a lot Ed- the vast majority of us fans can only speculate about which figures at the club have influence in which areas, and how decisions are reached.
It is fascinating to get some insight into all of the normally hidden machinations, and it is reassuring to know that BR is humble enough to accept player spotting is not his strongest area.
These are probably very expensive lessons for both club and manager to learn, but hopefully he and the club will have a stronger future together now that other folks have more control over identifying new players.

Agree1 Disagree0

Cant imagine BR is happy about losing a degree of control though at all

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club don't want their money spent unwisely - which in many cases he has been doing.}

Who are these people that supposedly know more about what the club needs than the manager?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Done to death.}

So eds does this mean he is given a list of players and he chooses from there or he gives the list to whoever and then they choose? Thanks eds and on a side note what are your predictions for the England-Italy game? Others feel free to post predictions as well! I say 3-1 Italia!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't work like that. We have been through all of this before but responsibility rests with Ian Ayre, Dave Fallows, Brendan Rodgers, Barry Hunter and Michael Edwards. I predict 85'F and 87% humidity for the England game.}
