Hi fellow reds and eds!

Ill tell you something about the aguero rumours.

Ok, maxi a month ago had low confidence, a number of poor performances made it likely that he would leave.

Recently he has been informed that his friend aguero is lfc bound but also that he will be given a chance to prove himself. This has lifted his spirits and confidence greatly and ultimately brought the best out of him. Aguero will be a red next season!

What would be the chances of getting Shane Long from Reading if they don't get promoted? Good young player with loads of ability, The King would be a great influence on him.

Is Charlie Adam still an option or do you think that the face Spearing is doing so well it'll put them off signing him?

Can I have your views on this, Mancini wants Ibra, Tevez apparently wants out. Swap deal with barca involving tevez, the knock on effect is LFC signing Afellay.
Your thoughts please, i ve tried many times posting but u never post any ogf my efforts !

Rebel_Red {Ed001's Note - I don't see why Afellay is involved in any of this?}

= = = = = = = = = =

Oh Ed001 whats wrong with you, a bit slow today !
dont you know that 2 + 2 equals us getting Aguero, Afellay, Sanchez and Johnson . .

Roy

{Ed002's Note - Tevez always wanted to go to Real Madrid. Affelay may become part of a deal to lure Fabrigas from Arsenal. Don't be too surprised if Etoo comes in to the picture, and don't be too surprised if Tevez ends up in Italy. But you seem to be looking in the right directions Roy. All part of life's rich pageant.}

Ed's any comment to make on augero rumour? Lfc r in advanced stages with aguero's agent, he has instructed his agent he wants to come to anfield, that's why his agent is a guest at tomz game.

Jimbob {Ed001's Note - his agent is Maxi's agent, he was coming to the game to talk over Maxi's future.}

We were interested in Sergio Aguero but wage demands have put us off. We have turned our attention to Karim Benzema, who will cost 22m.

let joe cole go - that will be half his wages but ten times the player

Hi Eds,

Can you confirm when the Transfer window opens and do you think we will be quick to nail on our signings or wait to see how the window pans out? I personally think we need new players to develop into our mould because lets face it (and it pains me to say so) that's been United's key to success over the years (giggs scholes et al) Paying over the odds for foreigners just isn't the Liverpool way. I'm made up that Kenny is back I think we have needed to go back to our basics and play great possession football which is how I see us returning to the top. Quick pass and move. . I like the rest of us can't wait to remove the smug smiles on the faces of the Old Trafford faithful and i'm not really fussed how Kenny does it. . but one thing is sure. . .Kenny will. Enjoy the glory while it lasts MUFC. .keep our perch warm. {Ed002's Note - Each FA decides the date that their transfer window opens. In England and Wales it is after the last game of the season - but that only applies for transfers between clubs who are members of the same FA. For International transfers I think the window will open on July 1.}

14 May 2011 20:53:07
Whom do we consider to be the biggest spenders in the upcoming transfer window ED?

KOP89 {Ed001's Note - City and Chelsea, probably Unreal Madride as well.}

Aaah right the usual suspects then, Where do you think sanchez will end up?

{Ed002's Note - No idea at present. We know that Chelsea and Inter Milan have made unsuccessful bids, and we know that Manchester United and Barcelona have a declared interest. Juventus had previously been interested but were hoping that (a) Sanchez stayed under the radar until a deal could be struck, and (b) Udinese would look kindly on an arrangement that included some cash and several players either in exchange, on loan or in part-ownership as part of the deal. As an aside Juventus have proposed a similar deal for Javier Pastore. Anyway, there was a January meeting with Chelsea in Monaco and broad agreement was reached over the transfer before Giampaolo Pozzo said that the deal must include a loan of the player back to Udinese. Whilst Barcelona were apparently willing to agree to this until the end of the season, Pozzo proposed that whoever Sanchez moved to should allow him to be loaned back for 18 months – hence the end of any discussions. I expect that Juventus will not come back in to the picture. Although Sanchez has been watched by numerous teams including Roma, there is nothing new other than Manchester City preparing a bid for the player as well. They have, like Juventus, recently been knocked back in a bid for Pastore and are likely to aim their cheque book in another direction – this may well be Sanchez. The advantage they have, in addition to being able to match any transfer fee, is the ability to put together a wage deal far beyond anything the other clubs could afford or would be willing to pay. I suspect that we will see this whole saga drag out through the summer transfer window as Pozzo puts the player on the market, takes him off the market, values him at €100M and so on. Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Inter will all likely remain interested but could well tire of the expected drawn-out negotiations. Manchester United and Chelsea were both originally wary of the player being not quite as robust as needs be for the EPL. Perhaps Inter will get their man or perhaps Sanchez will take an offer from Manchester City or respond positively to reported interest from the nice folks at Real Madrid.}

Regarding Aguero, I posted this a while ago. Chelsea were on the verge of signing him January 2010. The reason he did not was his wages, they were astronomical. Due to tax he would have taken a considerable wage cut to leave Atletico, even though Chelsea were offering £100k plus.

This info is from an ex player who is now an agent and radio summariser. At the time he told me Maxi was Liverpool bound.

Sergio Aguero will not be joining Liverpool(sadly) - he's off to Real Madrid. Jack Wilshere, Leighton Baines, Adam Johnson, Ashley Young & Gary Cahill will be summer signings.

Aguero will not be the marquee signing of the summer.

We can forget Hulk. Read the news on BBC gossip

The BBC are just rumours too, not fact. They are just using sources that everyone uses to get info.

Sporza TV (Belgium) states that Hulk (Givanildo Viera de Souza) has signed for Porto until 2016 with a buy-out clause of 100 million pounds. TV5 Monde (France) has the same story.

***His buyout clause was already 100m before he signed thisn 'Contract'. It's not really a contract, its just that Porto now own 85% of the player, a club in Uruguay own the other 15% of his rights.

On reply to may post on neymar and hulk ed002 you said we will have a better idea monday on which player is this? {Ed002's Note - Neither will move to Liverpool - zip chance. You asked three questions not two - it was the answer to the middle one.}

2. Ashley Young 14mil

Roy Hodgson is set to raid Liverpool in the summer by signing David Ngog and Paul Konchesky for a combined £7mil, as he tries to build a stronger squad to keep their premiership status next season. He will also look to sign Sotirios Kyrgiakos on a free transfer in the summer. My brother works for ITV as a camera man, he is quite good friends with Adrian Chiles and they talk football quite a bit.

Bradley Joynson 2011

14 May 2011 20:04:11
Liverpool will not be signing Sergio Aguero. If we do sign a striker it will be a younger little less cheaper who won't be ready yet but will be back up and maybe push Carroll and Suarez. Like Lukaku or Wickham trust me will not spend 3/ 4 of our transfer kitty on one player especially when wingers are on top priority list.

Thanks MarkoLFC85

Got a little excited today when i heard were talking with
Mata
Hulk
And adam johnson over moves to lfc apparently they are pushing these three and negotiating . . {Ed002's Note - So Hulk signing a new contract will be a smokescreen.}

14 May 2011 19:59:26
Any chance in us signing neymar ed? Or is he chelsea bound? And what about hulk edOO1 {Ed002's Note - No chance; we will have a better idea Monday; most doubtful as I expect he will not leave Porto this year.}

14 May 2011 19:57:15
Apologies Ed(s),

Thought it was 1200hrs I posted (sorry v tired).

Was there an answer(s) to my questions or is it not known at the moment?

Hoola {Ed002's Note - I don't no anything firm but I expect Ngog will be out, Ayala I am not so sure. Cameos, perhaps a couple yes.}

14 May 2011 19:46:27
Hey ed can u please confirm if this is true:
is aguero's agent coming to anfiled
i personally think its s**t {Ed001's Note - considering his agent also represents Maxi I wouldn't read anything into it.}

14 May 2011 19:40:25
Hey ed and every this coul be an indication that pacheco will be leaving
on his twitter "here in Liverpool, not even trainning today when team was, can't understand much. lets forget that and rest well at summer to be ready next 1"
make of it what you want
eds: do you think he'll leave dis summer {Ed001's Note - it is perfectly possible he will leave, it was a last chance for him going out on loan.}

14 May 2011 19:27:04
Why the hell r sky showing the meaningless game between arsenal an Aston villa tommorrow instead of the 5th place decider at anfield, surely they would have realised the liverpool match would have had a bit more riding on it at this stage of the season!

Sort it out sky {Ed002's Note - Perhaps not - it looks like Spurs are going to get in to the Europa League in any case.}

14 May 2011 19:22:49
Hi ed's,

I posted earlier today about Ngog and Ayala but haven't seen it on any of the different Lpool sites - did you recieve it or did you choose not to post it 9no probs either way) just checking my sanity lol

ED PLEASE POST

WHERE IS EVERYONE GETTING THIS AGUERO NEWS FROM?

14 May 2011 19:06:50
Hi eds great website. Ed do you believe that we are in for Sergio Aguero. Because to me it does not make sense. We paid 30million for Andy Carrol just to be a benchwarmer. That does sound like liverpool.

Cheers
Omar1997

{Ed002's Note - There has been interest from Liverpool over the years. Chelsea and Manchester United have been unable to put a package together and it strikes me that if he leaves Atletico Madrid it will be to Real Madrid or to Juventus. The price will be around £38M-£40M plus fees and obviously the "package". Juventus are trying to put together something now - maybe they will get their number one target. We should get someone who will be at the game tomorrow to ask him to confirm his move to Liverpool. I fear this may be the work of KopTalk or some equally valid source.}

14 May 2011 19:03:18
Ed could you see adel taarabt joining us in the summer of so were would played {Ed002's Note - I see him leaving QPR but am not so sure he will end up at Anfield. There is interest from Dortmund but more importantly Napoli are looking at the player. So a chance, but not a great chance.}

14 May 2011 18:59:18
Sergio ageuro agent has arrived at melwood and will be the VIP guest tomorrow at the spurs game. alot of talk has been made about comolli trying to sign a player that will shock and delight the liverpool fans and i can confirm that the player he is trying to sign is ageuro.

well we will all wait until tomorrow and see {Ed002's Note - Great news.}

Terrible news. Does anybody seriously want us to lay down another £35-45m on one player? In a position where we need the least amount of improvement? Sure it would be great to add depth up front, but there MUST be a way to do it without ending up with a £90m strikeforce. I have no interest in being Chelsea.

Ed002, Remember DC put a bid of 12.9m of Suarez as the opening offer. And you didn't know about that. Also we have put a paltry bid in for Matuidi which has also been laughed off. {Ed002's Note - That's right, I know nothing. What time will Neymar be arriving tomorrow?}

Mate maybe you misunderstood me, I was referring to the Marin comment by you, suggesting that we havent put a bid of 6.8m in for him when we have. And you didn't know about a bid for Suarez did you?

{Ed002's Note - OK fine; so who did this bid go in to. The Werder Bremen statement was pretty clear that they were aware Nik had an enquiry from Liverpool but no one had approached the club. I accept that this was last night and they did discuss Per Mertesacker, Naldo and Aaron Hunt as well - so possibly they became confused. I do not thin k it is out of the question that Liverpool will make a bid. Obviously this has happened without me knowing (which is fine), and seemingly without his club knowing.}

14 May 2011 18:25:27
Who do you think would be better ed Hulk or Falcao?
i believe that falcao would be the better option as he can score lots of goals and the interest seems to more in hulk so could we sneak under the radar and steal a march on him with Raul Meireles give him a insight on liverpool and he could persuade him to come. I would like ronaldo (porto player) to come in and the additions of mata and an other wide man also a left back i'd like fabio coentrao to see in a liverpool shirt who is the third best left back in the world in my opinion only third to cole and evra he can develop into a better player and can also go forward very well and reminds me of cole. then i believe that with these players coming into the club they could help us to push for our 19th title and other silverware us the euro to help develop the younger players coming through

YNWA
redmark

{Ed002's Note - It is not so much who is better, but who could bring the most to the squad. Hulk is not going to be available to Liverpool - at least this summer - so it is not really worth considering him. Again, in my view Coentrao has never been a viable option. I am sure that plenty of clubs aside from Aston Villa, Tottenham and Arsenal would be interested in the player after his recent performances. I think it unlikely and he is certainly not going to want to be starting on the bench every week.}

The 3rd striker we will sign to provide cover and options for us is gabby agbonlahor. He is young, will represent value for money and premier league proven. Fee in the region of £11m.

Liverpool have scouts at the French Cup Final tonight looking at four players. These are: Sakho, Hoarau, Hazard and Gervinho. Heard anything ed? {Ed001's Note - they are all players we have been following for a while, but I have nothing new to add about them, certainly would not be surprised if any of them were the subjects of a bid this summer.}

14 May 2011 16:19:09
Sky linking us with an interest in Altintop of Bayern available on a free.

No bid for Mata yet.

14 May 2011 16:11:08
just a quick note on jamie carragher ed? I think we should sign 2 cbs in the summer preferably cahiil, jones but i think carraghers legs will be gone by next year and i think he just won't be good enough. Ed please post because i really want to hear your opinion as well as others. Thank you!

{Ed002's Note - I expect that Mr Carragher will be used more sparingly as time passes. I am by no means convinced about Cahill and Jones is very much one for the future. If you want to shop in England then Dann and Johnson are better options in my view. If you want to shop at the higher end of the market then Sakho is a viable options - but not cheap.}

14 May 2011 16:09:12
Hi ed, will mancini stay at city ed? if so will our chances of getting Adam Johnson be high? thanks very much mate, the site is fantastic.

maka {Ed002's Note - I don't know if he will stay or not - that club did look elsewhere earlier in the season. I don't see why if Johnson wants to leave and Liverpool are prepared to pay whatever the asking price is why a deal cannot be brokered.}

Thanks mate, also, what do you think our chances our of signing Valencia's Juan Mata, and (on the Man Sh***y topic) are city and utd interested as well, perhaps halting our chances?

maka

{Ed002's Note - I have always said the chances of Mata are slim and I still think that is true. I suggested if there was a shock signing it could be Mata and I guess that is still correct as well. I suspect he may end up elsewhere with interest being shown by Chelsea, Manchester City and I expect that Barcelona will become interested at some point. If Barcelona show an interest he will probably go there.}

If he did go to Barca that would almost certainly free up Afellay who is already looking to leave imo, and do you think we have genuine interest or is it paper talk.
cheers mate :)

maka

{Ed002's Note - It has been suggested that Barcelona may offer Affelay to Arsenal if they are going to follow up interest in Fabregas. Certainly they will let him leave.}

14 May 2011 16:06:52
Per Mertesacker, 12 million
Marko Marin, 15 million
Ashley Young, 15 million
Scott Parker, 5 million
Jose Enrique/ Gael Clichy 8 million

Those are the players that kk is believed to want most he believes that Charlie Adam looked like a average Championship players around him and will let spurs or villa take the risk on an average player. scott paker is a proven prem player and kk is willing to take a risk on him at this stage of his career

Just heard that taarabt an Cole swap could come to fruition and let me tell u lfc fans something I have been to near enough all home games this season and taarabt is probably the most skilled and talented player we have had for a long time so congratulations if u do get him because he will suit any squad he's just like that

Harry Smith

14 May 2011 16:00:12
{Ed001's Note - it is very difficult to say who is a realistic target, but the ones I am 100% about a definite interest are Sissoko, Marveaux, Sakho, Mata, Young and Lukaku. That is just off the top of my head, there are a lot more and it is difficult to know which are the first choices and which are just options.}. Sounds great Ed, but I think Matuidi, Payet & Marin are in with a possibility. Not that I claim to have any reliable sources or anything. Just that DC will be well acquainted with the first two & Ed2 says Marin is quite possible.

{Ed002's Note - This is where you get to the difference between enquiring with an agent about if a player is available and would he be interested, and going to his club to ask the money that may be involved.}

Sporza TV (Belgium) states that Hulk (Givanildo Viera de Souza) has signed for Porto until 2016 with a buy-out clause of 100 million pounds.

Sorry, that should be euros. I see that one person has disagreed - is it with the news or the FACT that it has been stated on foreign TV Channels?

Although i very much doubt we will have the funds to splash on hulk i just coppied and pasted this from talk sport and it would seem that he could be willing to a move to us as he talks about a club with ambition, a plan for the future and that will be challenging well surely we tick all them box's, just a shame i doubt we'll have the £24-30m spare to sign him.

see what you think anyway

Liverpool eye Taarabt-Cole swap deal

By Tim Doel
Saturday 14 May 2011

Liverpool are planning a move for QPR star Adel Taarabt, and are willing to offer Joe Cole in a cash-plus-player exchange deal, according to reports in the Metro.

Taarabt, 21, has been a major factor in the promotion chase for Neil Warnock's side, since his £700,000 move from Tottenham, and has 19 goals in 44 league appearances this season, helping QPR to the top flight

His performances have attracted interest from Premier League clubs, and Reds manager Kenny Dalglish is thought to be looking for another player similar to Ashley Young, with a view to developing the player for the long-term, and the Moroccon international fits these criteria.

Liverpool are also keen to offload last seasons Summer signing Joe Cole, who has failed to establish himself at the club. Cole is thought to favour a move to London, however an arrangement involving Liverpool paying a share of the players' wages is likely to be necessary due to his current £90,000 weekly

Hi Eds,

I know none are certain and maybe even unlikely, but who would suit Liverpool better Marin or Mata? {Ed002's Note - Probably Mata.}

Thanks for that Ed!

Also is it me or do clubs express interests in alot of players and talk terms then decide which one they prefer as we Chelsea and City always seem to be linked with the same players, and does that mean if say Chelsea get Sanchez(for example) it frees up the way for the other targets(Marin, Mata)? This would probably be the reason why we look at so many I presume? Ta

{Ed002's Note - Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the players team to ask if they would be willing to sell and permission to speak to a player's agent and possibly even the player. This will typically involve either broadly (through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. So many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subswt of those go ahead.}

West Brom are preparing a renewed approach for Liverpool striker David Ngog.

The Frenchman was the subject of a season-long loan approach from the Baggies at the beginning of this season, then under Roberto Di Matteo, but a move failed to materialise.

With Ngog expected to become one of several players deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield this summer, Roy Hodgson is keen on a reunion with the 22-year-old at the Hawthorns, having used him regularly during his short-lived tenure as Kop boss.

Following the arrival of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in the previous transfer window, Ngog has been limited to just two starts under Kenny Dalglish, both of which came in the Europa League ties against Sparta Prague, and a handful of substitute cameos.

His last start in the Premier League came during a 3-1 defeat at Blackburn at the beginning of January - a game which ultimately sealed Hodgson's fate as Reds boss.

Ed, do these rumours of shane long have any substance? I think he would be a great addition to the squad, 23 goals in 48 appearences for reading this season. He has the determination and spirit of kuyt, not to mention ability to beat players and whip a dangerous ball into the box. 10 assists this season which proves he could provide service for Carroll/ Suarez/ Kuyt!Any winning liverpool team needs an Irish man on it!

Hi ed, will mancini stay at city ed? if so will our chances of getting Adam Johnson be high? thanks very much mate, the site is fantastic.

maka {Ed002's Note - I don't know if he will stay or not - that club did look elsewhere earlier in the season. I don't see why if Johnson wants to leave and Liverpool are prepared to pay whatever the asking price is why a deal cannot be brokered.}

Thanks mate, also, what do you think our chances our of signing Valencia's Juan Mata, and (on the Man Sh***y topic) are city and utd interested as well, perhaps halting our chances?

maka

{Ed002's Note - I have always said the chances of Mata are slim and I still think that is true. I suggested if there was a shock signing it could be Mata and I guess that is still correct as well. I suspect he may end up elsewhere with interest being shown by Chelsea, Manchester City and I expect that Barcelona will become interested at some point. If Barcelona show an interest he will probably go there.}

Hi ed's just a few questions.

the marveaux story has been in and out for the last couple of months, has there been any confirmation about this?

also if this were true then would we be getting another two wingers, and how do you rate mata vs young?

The Southern Red {Ed002's Note - I expect the Marveaux transfer to go through. I think there is more chance of Young joining than Mata. I am not so sure another winger would also come in. There has also been interest to some extent in Elia, Marin, Affelay and Payet.}

14 May 2011 10:40:44
Hi Ed's,

With all the talk of Sanchez, Hazard and other so-called marquee players, together with talk of Mata maybe not wanting to leave spain (if he does come will prb be ManC or Chelski), A. Johnson costing a fortune from ManC and Young actually preferring ManU. .

What do you think of LFC pulling a move and grabbing Marin (left side) and Reus (right side) from the Bundesliga? Two top young prospects that would probably want to come and not cost a fortune? The weather would also not be an issue for them. . ;-) If not Reus, then perhaps Payet for the right. Top young talent and wouldn't cost the earth.

Fensh {Ed002's Note - Marin is a possibility. There is no known interest in Reus so I cannot answer.}

Hi, question(s) to the editors if I may. .

Firstly I received a text telling me about KK's 3 year deal (not sure if this was before or after the announcement as I was in a meeting however, I knew about J Cole and have had team news previously that has been correct); anyway, on the text it stated that Ngog and Ayala had been told they had no future at the club; have you guy's heard anything similar?

Also if we beat Spurs tomorrow; do you envisage some cameo roles from the likes of Suso and Sterling against Villa?

Thanks

Fensh {Ed002's Note - Broadly in line with my thoughts but it seems Marin is heading for the "quite possible" category. Elia was of interest in January and there may still be some interest. Dzsudzsak may well stay at PSV but Villareal are very serious about their interest.}

ed 2 mate, through jan i know spurs were in talks with marins reps regarding a summer move for the bremen star, as far as i can still understand the deal is still very much a goer, with regards of reporting liverpool interest i think its only paper talk???

{Ed002's Note - WB said that there has not been an approach to the club but they were aware that an enquiry has been made with his agent. They also said that the play must focus on the game today. There was indeed interest from Spurs in January and various other clubs have been impressed with the player. Liverpool may well decide to make a bid so there is a chance that you may see him at Anfield next year.}

So I reckon we are after 3 wingers and situation seems to be as follows:

Very likely: Marveaux

That leaves 2 more from:

Quite possible: Young, Payet

Less possible: Mata, Marin, A. Johnson, Elia

Not sure what happened with Dzsudzsak. I've seen him a few times and looks a great prospect. I also rate Marko Reus very highly, but there never seemed real interest there.

All good players I would be happy with.

Ed's, am I close in my assessment or missing anybody?

Cheers. {Ed002's Note - Inter have offered to loan Coutinho to Bologna as part of the Gaston Ramirez deal. I don't think they want to sell but suspect they will listen to offers. So a chance. They would probably be looking for £10M but there will be interest from elsewhere so the price could rise.}

Hi ed, would appreciate your input. Any chance that Turan will be a target especially with King Kenny in for good? Or Honda as both seemed as likely targets in January. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Arda Turan looks Atletico Madrid bound. Talks have been going on for a while and he will move this summer. Dortmund apparently, remain interested but Villarreal have dropped any interest that they had. Spurs have dipped their toe in the water over the player and I suspect Valencia are keeping a watchful eye on matters. I am surprised that Liverpool have not followed up the interest they previously had in the player. As for Honda, Liverpool may have blown chance in January when he was available - it is now part way through the season in Russia and he is less likely to move.}

1.How much money will Liverpool spend on transfers this summer? 2. For which positions will they acquire players? 3. Which players will they acquire for these positions?

Over many transfer windows I have found that answering the first two questions can help you assess the credibility of the suggestions for the third. And while I am not 'ITK' I have a good knowledge of business finance, including that of LFC.

The business philosophy of FSG is guided by the principles of 'money ball'. They expect their sports franchises to be self supporting (transfer fees come out of the clubs revenue, rather than capital provided by the owners - as occurs at Chelsea and City). Also they will look for 'value' in any player acquisition (younger players most likely to be signed), and be as concerned with future wages as transfer cost.

FSG will have put aside some limited funds at the time of acquisition for squad strengthening - LFC net transfer spend this summer will very likely be around 25 mn. It is not possible to be more accurate without their business plan; but it is worth noting that during the winter window (and prior to the Carroll/Torres development) the net spend was heading towards somewhere between 17 mn (Suarez less Babel), and 25 mn (including Adams). Ultimately LFC spent close to zero - so these unspent funds will be carried forward, and are now available in the summer.

To this will be added proceeds from sales, and this is the real challenge for the summer transfer window - simply due to the number of players the club is trying to move on. There are those who were on loan at the start of the season (particularly Aquilani & Insua, but also Al Zhar/Degen/Darby). If all are sold they will raise close to 20 mn, with 2/3 of this coming from Aquilani. Then there are the recent failed purchases - Konchesky/Poulsen/Jones collectively worth around 5 mn (half what was paid for them). Add recent Bosmans (underperforming and high wages) - Cole & Jovanovic could raise 10 mn, but almost certainly some payments will be needed to persuade them to accept a lower wage; and possibly Ngog (maybe 5 mn). Also Kyrgiakos will be released at the end of his contract - as will Aurelio when his ends.

Accepting that not all sales will happen, then a total spend of 50 mn - 60 mn is very probable; and this is consistent with several newspaper articles. Some assume (incorrectly) this is what will be provided by the owners - it will not be.

As to positions - a recent Guillem Ballague article indicated LFC were looking to acquire 5 players - LB/CB/CM/2 wingers. A quick evaluation of the remaining squad indicates that this assessment certainly captures the key needs. FSG's desire for 'value' can help identify likely players to fill these positions (particularly where their negotiating hand is strengthened by the player being towards the end of their contract); but all is speculation at present.

2 wingers - Marveaux (Bosman) and Young (last year of contract; around 15 mn) would appear to be the most probable. Most newspaper rumors as we know have little basis in fact. However the most reliable statistically is the Guardian (a success rate of 1 actual transfer for every 3 rumors), and they led with the Young transfer recently. And yes I would love to see Mata instead at Liverpool, but really doubt the funds will be there for this.

LB - Enrique (again strongly linked with only one year on contract; around 8 mn). The higher priority elsewhere (winger/CD) will limit the funds for this position.

CD - around 15 mn available for an established international player; perhaps Cahill, or Sakho, or Rolando - but none of their clubs need to sell, so will be a difficult negotiation.

CM -assumes Aquilani is sold as planned. The form of Lucas and emergence of Spearing make it difficult to determine even the type of CM we will pursue, hence the myriad rumors on this position. Your guess - but the budget will be around 10 mn. It will not be Alonso (too expensive & not young enough), however much we admire him; think more of players like Matuidi/Coutinho.

A forward? Not a priority, and unlikely, but possible depending on how the others net out (and if Ngog is sold), but would be a young player with potential (maybe up to 10 mn) - established strikers such as Benzema/Gomez are too expensive and will not be bought. Nor will any of the fantasy names (Aguero, Sanchez and the like) - like all supporters I would love to see one of them play for LFC, but there is no possibility it will happen this year.

We follow the football, but also are now playing - 'Money Ball'
