can't understand why Milner ain't getting a game he just seems to have been dumped. didn't klopp say in the summer it was like signing a new midfielder talking about Milner thought he was one of our best players last season baffles me how Moreno is playing every week and Milner and Robertson are keeping the bench warm.

So you want to drop an in form Moreno for Milner? That is very strange to me!

Agree13 Disagree6

15 Sep 2017 23:22:14
I'm not convinced he's in form. He's still good at bombing forward and still bad at defending. that's just Moreno being Moreno. He's no different.

Agree23 Disagree3

Milner shouldn't play left back again, have you already forgot about all the cutt backs and slowly the attacks down, Robertson needs game time.

Agree21 Disagree0

16 Sep 2017 00:34:40
You honestly thought Milner wouldn't get "dumped" this season? We are overloaded in midfield and out wide so a squad player role was the best he could have hoped for this season. Don't be surprised if he leaves in January due to lack of game time. Jack of all trades but master of none is our James Milner.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I think people forget how bad he was after his initial good start. He offered nothing going forward and was all over the place defensively as teams targeted him. He was an excellent stop gap emergency left back, but that is all.}

16 Sep 2017 01:50:42
Yes Harry, Milner is still streets ahead of "an in form Moreno"

Agree2 Disagree12

{Ed001's Note - I disagree, go back and watch his games again, he was caught out of position, just like Moreno, but offered nothing going forward and lacked the pace to get back in. Ok Moreno makes rash tackles, but at least he is getting back to affect the play, Milner was just getting left stranded, even though he was not going forward as far or as much. I like Milner, he has a fantastic attitude and was a great emergency left back, but he should only ever play there again in a major injury crisis.}

16 Sep 2017 01:58:09
I think that's a bit unfair in Moreno. His attacking play has improved no end and whilst defensively he's not solid he is clearly making an effort to curb the rash diving in which has got him in trouble previously. He has has visibly started to learn about staying on his feet and goal side, and he knows that if he let's his current standards slip, Robertson comes straight into his place.

Agree10 Disagree3

16 Sep 2017 04:26:12
We have Moreno, Robertson, TAA and Gomez who can play much better than Milner at full back. Please stop putting Milner's name into the hat. He is ok to play in cup games and for seeing out games, that's it.

Agree6 Disagree0

Too many people on this page play favourites, Moreno has been better than usual of late and Bette ThTs. Milner last year (no offence to Milner he did an admirable job! ) but lovren/ insert keeper here/ Moreno get the blame (sometimes rightly so) yet others have bad games and have excuses made, 'hendo', matip, even firmino at times get a free pass! Firmino isn't a striker but does well I creating space for mane and salah, so now mane is absent should we omit roberto for an out and out striker? Shall we kick out an averge Henderson? No because the fans like them?

Agree1 Disagree4

16 Sep 2017 08:07:23
Hendo has been average at best this season but was quality last season and we really missed him when not playing. I think he has earnt a little grace.
Firmino is a great player and although not a natural striker he fits perfectly into our system especially now we have Salah, he gives 100% every game and doesn't get flack because he doesn't deserve it.
I agree with you regarding Matip, but I think the reasoning is that people tend to think it's Lovren bringing out the worst in him, to be fair it could be the other way round as Lovren has looked worse since being paired with Matip, as another poster said he seemed to be forming a decent partnership with Sakho.

Agree2 Disagree3

16 Sep 2017 08:23:44
I don't really rate Moreno but he has been a little better, his link up play is starting to come through and did well for our first goal on Wednesday.

Maybe Andy Robertson will get a chance today against Burnley. Tricky game today chaps, Id like to Couthino start, him and Salah seemed to have an understanding in pre season so it'll be interesting to see how they link up today, should they both start.

16 Sep 2017 09:54:38
Robertson anyone?

Agree1 Disagree1

16 Sep 2017 10:13:22
Agree, really want to see Robertson play more - mom on debut in a position we don't know who our best is. Milner agreed to play there for the season but it was known he doesn't want to play defence. Assume that's why he's not featured there. Love Moreno as shows he wants to Play for us when I watch him I'm always hoping he'll be good but again he's not got goal side and not stopped an important goal and also against hoffenheimn 2nd leg the goal from his side he could have easily defended if he was simply aware of who was around him - winning games is more important and he does not seem able to change that aspect of his game, so frustrating.

I know Robbie hit the post with the penalty, but in match changing situations like that, it would have been great to have Milner on the pitch to step up,

Just a thought Ed.
Do you think Milner could play the holding midfield role?
He seems to have dicipline to avoid being pulled forward on attacks, and reads the game well,

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - no, not for me.}

17 Sep 2017 06:06:52
On hindsight, what position did he play. and can we say he did an Ok Job. personally i prefer he plays even our next game ahead of our Captain.

17 Sep 2017 07:28:04
Milner offers more defensively and offensively than Moreno.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - no he does not, I really do not know what people were watching last season but he offered nothing.}

15 Sep 2017 22:31:09
Is nathaniel clyne actually injured?

Ed001 if your about mate please. With us keeping Couts this season how likely is it he will leave at end of season? Barcelona saying it was now or never probably means that's will be that. With Can likely leaving to replaced by Keita im just thinking what the chances of Couts staying beyond this season are please?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I expect him to continue to try and push his way out to be honest.}

15 Sep 2017 19:48:39
Ffs right ok mate.

Agree0 Disagree3

16 Sep 2017 05:00:42
Why? I'd Coutinho helps us over achieve this season and acts decently and the offer is respectable the why not let him go? His replacement is the famed 'navy kieth' and the money he brings in CBA be used on a defender/ keeper/ goal scorer or more likely another midfielder!

Agree1 Disagree1

16 Sep 2017 05:26:05
Who should be the partner of keita in midfield next season?

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Sep 2017 08:08:44
Keita, Hendo and either Wini or Lallana.

Barca won't offer 100 million plus again.

FFP being looked at again within the big euro clubs and this will limit the transfer fees.

Studge to start v Burnley. Bobby shattered.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, I'd expect Robertson to start too.

15 Sep 2017 01:18:55
Thanks for leaking the team info Kloppo :P
Everyone in the team should be shattered by our result, not just Bobby. So maybe we should drop everyone. On a serious note, we should really try putting Gomez in his favourite CB spot to partner Matip. Too many mistakes from Lovren and Klavan is not good enough.

Although I wanna see Gomez start centre half as well I expect him to get his chance there in a cup game first, depends on the form of Trent as well though, if Gomez is a success in the middle then it leaves Trent as our only real option on the right until clyne gets fit, the lad doesn't need that pressure.

Milner for cover at RB.

15 Sep 2017 12:27:14
Milner as right back all day long he right footed should give us nice balance, then we can put gomez in centre with matip, as bad as the result was the other night we never got beat an sevilla are a very experienced European side, we played great the other night jus our defence let us down let's take sum positives and beat burnley.

Agree6 Disagree1

15 Sep 2017 18:35:12
Not just the defence who have defensive responsibilities is it hailstones?
Our midfield needs to be a little more tuned in as well.
Remember Spurs in the 90's under Ardiles?
They defended as a 5 and conceded goal after goal after goal. We have to defend as a unit. Yes the defender are at fault for some individual mistakes but maybe if the midfield did their job, the defenders wouldn't have been put in those situations in the first place - think about that.

Agree1 Disagree2

15 Sep 2017 18:57:22
As much as I'd love to see Gomez tried at centre half I just don't see it happening unless there's injuries. I'm a big Klopp fan but he is extremely stubborn when it comes to certain players or positions.

Agree3 Disagree0

15 Sep 2017 20:55:27
Olirish, whilst I get your point, Hailstones is correct, our defence is woeful.

We conceded 42 goals last season, 12 of those from set pieces, a failure to clear our lines, zonal marking. That's nearly a third of goals shipped, nothing to do with the midfield mate. If you've watched us live, you'll feel and understand the tension and anxiety around the ground everytime the opposition get a set piece!

DApred.

Sorry but I'm gong to upset the apple cart here.

Were you at the game on Wednesday? If so, you wouldn't be making such a ridiculous comment regarding everyone being shattered.

Bobby and Mané were looking really tired with 20 mins to go. The tv moniters follow the ball and see nothing what goes on off the ball. Bobby absolutely ran his heart out on Wednesday night and if you watch, his tiredness led to him losing the ball in midfield, one of the factors in Sevilles equalising goal.

Dday 82, you are actually correct mate, clearly those 25 likes for DApred were not at the match on Wednesday.

Olirish 1, mate did u not see lovren make a hash for 1st goal nothing too do with midfield that mate we have had this defence for a season an lovren for 3 seasons and nothing has changed an it needs too, our midfield does a decent job but admittedly we could do with a real defensive sweeper midfielder specialist too allow other 2 midfielders too get on with it and give balance but we ain't got that.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Sep 2017 05:02:34
I respect the job Flanagan once did and love his attitude but why do people stillah e such high hopes? Surely it's obvious that he's not good enough when you see a younger lad (TAA) or a player being played out of his favoured position (Gomez) being played there, tht is surely the evidence he's out FO favour and just not good enough.? He gcouldbt get a game for Burnley.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Sep 2017 10:22:10
I have a feeling both Salah and Firmino might be rested for sturridge and the ox with Coutinho coming in for Mane. Hope I'm wrong as I have both Firmino and Salah in my dream team haha.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - isn't dream team a S*n thing?}

16 Sep 2017 17:11:38
Hailstones, how did the ball get to him right in front of his goal?
Can/ Henderson/ Wijnaldum?
Where were they for that goal.
Did you criticise Gomez for not stopping the cross? Matip for being sucked into a midfield position for the umpteenth time?
Moreno for not anticipating the ball falling to the only attacker near the goal?
No you blame Lovren because you have tunnel vision and I'd suggest little understanding of football, team set ups, defensive discipline, positional sense, reading of the game and all the other good stuff.
If all you saw was Lovren's air kick, you don't really understand football mate.
