Ed002, have you any update on Lazar Markovic as he's been spotted at LFC academy on Monday evening? {Ed002's Note - Please read the other posts - this has been done to death. If you have a photo of him cradled in the arms of Falcao in the back of Cavani's Renault Dauphane at Melwood, we can reconsider.}

Was very temped to get onto Photoshop after reading that... Though you'd then probably see it in the Daily Mail tomorrow morning! Danny

Don't be silly ed002
Cavani drives a citeron Zara Picasso

You can't fault sarcasm, thanks for giving me a giggle on this snowing morning ed. RedzBak...

Markovic hasnt been spotted at melwood. One of our academy players confirmed it was a hungarian trialist cb and not markovic

The Times and The Echo are reporting that Liverpool might want Sneijder at the right price...cue absolute mayhem on this site...

Alan Partridge {Ed002's Note - At the right price there will be plenty of interested clubs.}

I'd suffer thru signing Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, if the price was right as well.

SpudRed

At the right price he'll go to Utd

Hello fellow kopites and Eds!

Just a wee bit of a question for you all. Lazar Markovic of partizan Belgrad, what's your thoughts? There is a picture of him at Melwood circulating the web. Possible future signing?
It's being said by some that he is the hottest prospect from the Balkan area for quite a while. {Ed002's Note - See other posts please. Seems Twitter is not as reliable as we thought.}

17 Jan 2013 23:08:56
Well lads. Quick question for the eds. Now that Victor Valdez has announced he is leaving Barca, do you think Reina would be a possible replacement, or have barca got someone else lined up. Also hope that Valdes comes nowhere near LFC, horrible keeper, could never understand how he managed to be no.1 for barca.

#KMK {Ed002's Note - The summer is a long way off and Barcelona has already made an approach to another club about a goalkeeper - who will most likely not be sold to them.}

17 Jan 2013 23:56:22
You'd hardly fancy telling us who the keeper/club are by any chance. Just interested.

#KMK {Ed002's Note - Courtois.}

Who's the keeper barca want ed002 (Ps: you are a legend) {Ed002's Note - They made an approach about Courtois.}

18 Jan 2013 08:18:23
Thanks ed. Was thinking as much. Class act. Chelsea got a real gem there.

#KMK

I'm guessing loads of people are asking due to this picture circulating on twitter, but anything on Lazar Markovic eds?

RedKopite {Ed002's Note - Yes, but none of it related to Liverpool. I have answered this a number of times already.}

17 Jan 2013 22:20:04
Hi eds, just wondering if there is any chance of signing Lazar Markovic from Partizan? Young, technically good player. Fits the checklist for us in terms of transfer policy {Ed002's Note - Lazar Markovic has attracted the attention of Milan, Fiorentina, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen and Espanyol. The player is keen to move to Chelsea and a move in January is possible, but no fee has yet been finalised with Partizan Belgrade. Michael Emenalo has been visiting Belgrade to watch him play and there were meetings between Chelsea and his agent immediately after Christmas. At a more recent meeting it was found that a new agent was representing Markovic - whilst it may ease the completion of a move to Chelsea I suspect the cost could well increase.}

BR paid 15m for Joe Allen. The way he is currently playing it seems like another case of us being had. I think Luca Modric would be available today at 20m and he would come back to the PL for the playing time. Is it always better to buy British?

Leave the kid alone, the reason players play poorly for us is people like you constantly having a go at them. A few bad games and suddenly we should sell up?

Or you could point to the waste of money on loaning Sahin- should BR have waited and gone for Modric who has PL experience

Br shouldn't have bought allen in the first place he's nowhere near good enough for lfc....

Give Allen time. In a few years he'll be as good as Henderson :)

Haha nice one

A few bad games?? He been very bad since he's been here, Modric would by ideal but that won't happen sadly... RedzBak...

Get a grip guys, joe allen will do us well. 15 mill will seem like a snip in 2 yrs time still 3 or 4 yrs off his prime has already shown flashes of excellence for us. Nowt to with being welsh but he just emphasises what a waste of money hendo was...its shocking....does anyone else notice how petrified and clueless hendo looks whenever he is brought on?

He's just had a kid recently which can explain some of his recent bad performances. When he started he was brilliant, average passing success of 90%+ every game. Every player should be given a chance, look at how Lucas turned out!

I admit Allen is a "tidy" player but frankly I do not think he is ever going to be anything special.Another squad player in my opinion without much room for improvement. He is unlikely to get ant quicker or much stronger and his basic skills are o.k. so where can he improve?
CR

Allen is doing OK. He started out good and seems to be facing some kind of a dip in form. That happens in football. I believe he will turn out good. There are many 'good' players out there and some of you guys are naming Modric but the reality is, BIG names will be looking for Champions League action. Until we get back into the top 4 and qualify for the CL, we can forget about major signings. As hard as it is to face this fact, it IS the cold hard truth. We are not in the position to splash out rediculous transfer money and wages to 'attract' the so called stars.

DAP Red

For me he looks better playing in Lucas' hole than playing alongside him. He made a good start and faded like Enrique in the last one.

As far as I remember Modric was at best average for Spurs the first couple of season ... a nothing player as far as most were concerned. We bought the chap at 21 years of age .. jeezzz
lets see after a few seasons, his qualities are clear to see even if consistency isn't there yet.

Hi eds,

Pictures doing the rounds on twitter of Lazar Markovic at the U21 game last monday. Looks like LFC is courting him.

Any more info on this one eds?

JanBorman {Ed002's Note - Lazar Markovic has attracted the attention of Milan, Fiorentina, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen and Espanyol. The player is keen to move to Chelsea and a move in January is possible, but no fee has yet been finalised with Partizan Belgrade. Twitter has just 'confirmed' (as far as that goes) that this was not Lazar Markovic but a hungarian centre back that is on trial.

JanBorman

Markovic is Chelsea fan. Please have that in mind.

Yeah and Haines is a Liverpool fan??., What's your point. Markovic can play any, club regardless of who he supports!!

Hi!
What You think about Rafał Wolski? {Ed002's Note - Does he do well on Fantasy Football?}

17 Jan 2013 20:42:15
I believe we are watching Swiss international Gavranovic. You heard anything eds? {Ed002's Note - Only that it is not true.}

17 Jan 2013 20:10:24
Hi Eds,

I know I'm just listing names here so you can simply answer no, no etc to each one.

But do you know if liverpool have had any of the following watched ever or recently as I think all would greatly improve the side and be the players I'd be looking at

Alan Dzagoev (CSKA)

Markel Sauseta (Bilbao)

Dries Mertens (PSV)

Yevhen Konoplyanka (Dnipro)

Andreas Ivanschitz (free in summer I think for Mainz)

James Rodriguez (Porto)

Your friend,
Davey Sulls {Ed002's Note - None of these players will be arriving at Liverpool in January. I assume you have found these players on some fantasy manager game. You could certain type their names in to the search box above and get an update.}

17 Jan 2013 22:46:03
Editor 002 is a very arrogant boy a right know it all too the man was only asking a question drop the attitude {Ed002's Note - Little Johnny Jerkoff is back to make a laughing stock of himself. Do you have any idea how stupid you post is?}

Don't worry about it ed002. I very much appreciate all the work you do. That is not me posting the angry post above. I was letting myself open with listing names.

But I will say this. I have seen all the above play. It was not a list from a fantasy game like football manager.

Truth is, my laptop broke months ago and I've been unable to play football manager for well....months. It comes up as a "Hardware error, please contact your vendor" but I know secretly its God's way of punishing me for restarting the playoff final with Southampton so I could get promoted to the Premiership after losing the first game. But God did not know the immense pressure I was under. I gave the board expectations that I would win the league in order to secure extra transfer funds. Failing to even get second prize of promotion would have resulted in my sack.

Who am I kidding. I'm lance Armstong all over again. All my virtual charity work on the SIMS will not make up for it.

A very apologetic,
Davey Sulls {Ed002's Note -

{Ed002's Note - No need to apologise Davey.

Dzagoev has interested Chelsea and Arsenal (who at one time sent an entire contingent to watch him play in Moscow) in the past but that has probably waned. Roma, Napoli and Spurs have both recently contacted CSKA about the player. It should be noted that he signed a new contract in the summer and a move in January is very unlikely but if it were to happen Roma is the most likely destination.
Real Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris St Germain have shown at least some level of interest in Athletic Bilbao's Markel Susaeta over the past year. In October a director of PSG blurted out his name when perhaps he shouldn't of done. A move in January remains unlikely.

I don't see Mertens moving to Liverpool in January. If he moves next summer I suspect it may well be to Bayern Munich although there remains serious interest from Lazio.

Konoplyanka has been watched by several EPL clubs including Chelsea, Fulham, Arsenal and Manchester United but I doubt he would move to sit on the bench which would probably influence his decision. There is also continued interest from Napoli, Roma and Galatasaray in the summer offered Riera, Baros and cash for the player but were told by Dnipro it would take 50M euros for a transfer to go ahead.

Ivanschitz is indeed out of contract in the summer. I don't know of any interest being shown in him now - but I do recall an enquiry from Arsenal when he was at Rapid Vienna around 10 years ago.

Three clubs spoke to Porto about James Rodrigues over the summer and two bids were rejected. Neither matched Porto's then valuation of the player (30M euro). The bidding clubs were Manchester United and Palermo whilst Bayern Munich looking looking carefully at Rodrigues as an alternative to Dries Mertens who they are keen to move for next summer. Juventus has spoken with Porto recently but again money will be an issue unless a more creative solution can be found. There may well have been enquiries from other clubs including Napoli. It may be tough to find someone to pay the sort of fee Porto would now be looking for after negotiating a much higher release fee (45M euro) for the player. A move in the summer seems more likely than January.

I hope this helps.}

Suarez wants out he wants champions league football and I can't see us getting that for the next few years we need good experience players as well as young players just take a look at Utd ...a club I hate so much. Snieder that's who we need and zaha not ince cheers

Dry your eyes. Suarez is just outspoken and always has been. I would be very surprised if he left at the end of the season. People just like to over react.

I really will run out of words at this rate.....hmmm.........Desperate?

I can't claim tow atch much championship football but ince 25 games 13 goals, zaha 26 games 5 goals.

Zaha is overrated

I couldn't agree more. While we are linked with potential like Tom Ince we miss out on one of the best talents in Europe. We will remain a mid table club unless we see an investment in proven quality. United buy van persie while we go for bargain basement signings. Sneijer is 28 so what? He's in his prime. Gerrard is 33 this year and we need a replacement. So angry at how far our great club has fallen so far behind. No chance of reaching the Champions league with our current players and Suarez will surely go. And I can't blame him! Lessons have not been learnt from the summer's farce of transfer dealings

17 Jan 2013 18:44:00
I agree about Ince... Totally over rated. I really don't want him. Unless I'm missing something? Sturridge is quality, excellent signing. But Ince......hmmmm I'm not convinced. His Dad gets on my wick aswell

Suarez isn't going anywhere.

HELLO! Here's a wake up call for you.We DO NOT have the sort of money that Utd spent on RVP to spare.If you're angry with the club find out where Moores and Parry live and go scream at them.They're the ratbags that sold us to the Yanks and nearly bankrupted and relegated us.

The Plank

Maybe you should see who has more goals and assists Ince or Zaha it's Ince if anything it's Zaha that's over rated all pace and no end product to quote a Ed

Anyone who finishes with man Utd.......a club I hate is a Manchester sum. Ignore.

Eds as I find it quite entertaining the mind numbing transfer rumours that is, and although you seem to agree with me that almost all of these shouts are way off the mark I do find it rather amusing that your predictions on incoming transfers ie sturridge and ince yes you got sturridge spot on but a blind man seen that coming some six months ago as for ince he won't be coming to anfield so your way off the mark blackpool don't like us that is plain to see, the problem with all these rumours is that even tho we are still the most succesful english club of all time and carry world renound fame along with us we do not carry the same weight in transfers as 5 or 6 years for the simple reason we have been in a mess for a long time now until we reach the champions league spots again we can wave goodbye to to being linked with any top players and them actualy arriving at anfield and that doesn't include ws he has been an average player since the special left inter I don't think he is up to much any more hense the reason why he is being sold like a second hand clapped out car so lets start being real lfc fans we are still in a mess lets just hope that brendon rodgers who I think is the next alex ferg gets the time to rebuild this amazing club just like the great shanks, so lets save our money till the summer I believe rodgers may well get us into the champions league with the squad we have what do you think ed {Ed002's Note - I had no idea that you and this unidentified blind man knew 6 months ago that Sturridge would be coming and Ince would not. I can do more than explain what I know, and I have occasionally been wrong (Suarez and Sylvain are great examples of course) and for that I apologise. Why not write to all of the British press and others who have been way further off the mark than me and complain?}

Surely a team will only "miss out" on a possible signing if they actually go for them in the first place?! Or am I wrong in thinking that? Now Dempsey is a player we "missed out" on, as we actively attempted to sign him. Why do you guys keep going on about all these players we should be going for? Am I missing something here? There is a difference between reality and what goes on in your heads! We were never out to splash the cash during this window anyway, we were/are just looking to add to our attack. which we have done in buying Sturridge, and Ince will also be an addition if it goes through. And as for the "Yanks", considering the position we were in and what could have happened to the club, I hardly think any of us can complain! I will also choose struggling for 4th in the EPL over fighting to win the 2nd division any day of the week!

I remember watching Ince in academy games. He was more productive then than Zaha is now. Zaha is like lennon, in that he wastes possession more than doing anything with it, and his decision making is just as bad. Rather have Ince back. I was annoyed we got rid of him in the first place.

RDW

I think they are both overrated tbh and I'd rather we buy someone with more proven quality, older and with more experience. That's what we need, not even more kids. But not sneijder either to big an ego.

Linking to fenerbache eds I heard moussa sow joining Liverpool can you confirm this eds {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

"The Yonks" I was refering to were H&G not FSG and if you'd thought for a second you'd have realised that!

The Plank {Ed002's Note - You appreciate that H&G are not yonks and people were confused by you ignorance?}

Oi mate, Suarez dropped by my apartment here in Canada earlier today to tell me just the same thing. Yup, he is going to leave because of no champs league but where he will be going is Alaska to join a dog sled club. I hear he has always wanted to train huskies.

- Logic

Blackpool don't like us but have had several of our youthful players play for them? How can they hate us we gave them ince for next to nothing in modernday financial terms and got 9 mill for adam from us, they should adore us

Ed when are we going to pull our finger out and go for Buttland! Our problems are all at the back and if we could get him in am sure we would stop leaking them in.

Riena has been a safe pair of hands but he is now dropping a lot of balls, balls I think Buttland could handle.

I go to bed and dream of Buttland.

I hope FSG can make him come, no hard feelings Pepe. {Ed002's Note - For me Butland would be a risk as a first choice goal keeper at this time.}

Have you ever watched Butland? He is definitely a commanding presence at the back and a fantastic shot stopper but still not ready for the PL. But agree with you that we should sign him, but only as a back up which would stifle his progress

Would love to see Butland join, as reina has been getting sloppy for the last few seasons. But Butland could not just walk straight into his postion anytime soon. Would love to see Butland come in and go straight back out on load to a PL club where he'd be number one for a season or two first.

Haha.. I dream of Buttland. You crack me up. Nice one

I suggest you go to bed and think of Buttland handling all those balls then ...don't forget the tissues

Raised Eyebrow

Comedy gold...not.

Vorm would be a safer bet! But doubt it will happen.

Pukimak Ah Jib

Agree with Ed he's too young regardless of wether Reinas making mistakes or not

Hi eds, with Macca saying its becoming hard to find info from the club, do you think its the club doing there busniess behind the doors, or do you think its just because there is just nothing in the pipeline right now?

also with regards to sneijder these rumers are not going away at all everyday the media are running with it, something must be in it, no?

BC {Ed002's Note - It is a question ytou need to ask of Macca as to the difficulties he has, but I suspect after recent well publicised events the club would look to take control of rumours themselves - as a number of other clubs do. Releasing what they wish to be released through specific sources in which trust can be built up. I have provided a quite lengthy explanation of where we are regarding Sneijder - I will do so again to try and quell further questions:

Liverpool has made no offer to Inter. The situation remains (1) The exclusivity agreement expired on Tuesday night and for the first time since the Gala offer was accepted Inter could talk to another club. (2) Neither of the two clubs approached by Sneijder's agent last Thursday are interested at the salary being requested by the player's agent. (3) The agreement for the fee between Inter and Gala is still in place but Inter want everything resolved ASAP so they can bring in his replacement - as time passes there is a possibility they will lose him. (4) Gala has agreed a salary with the player (well publicised in broad net terms) and want the matter resolved so they can make other arrangements if needs be. (5) Sneijder wants matters resolved but wants to see if other offers will be presented, and wants time to consider them. (6) Inter and Sneijder have yet to agree their severence deal completely with a demand for between 1M and 2M euro (I am not sure the exact figure) in dispute. THis would stop any deal being completed - so it is an important factor. (7) On Monday night a rather bizarre situation came about with previous suitor Fenerbahce's Yildirim saying he could not see how Galatasaray could afford the player and the player should move to the Sukru. Aysal responded saying that he would send his plane to fetch Sneijder and he could agree, as he left the plane, to either "create fire with the lions or fight fire with the birds" - something which sort of passes me by but apparently meaningful in the Asian part of Istanbul. Expectation is that matters will be resolved by Sunday - but I am not sure Sneijder is in agreement with that. (8) Sniejder has an agent and representatives who will still be seeing if they can attract interest in the player and will no doubt have been chasing several clubs in England. I have found out two have been approached and have made it clear they have no interest - and I would think others including Liverpool will also have been approached directly now.}

Thank you very much for the information, Ed. Much appreciated.

A sticky mess all round. Certainly looks like we won't be getting him at LFC unless we're his last English option and he decided against Turkey. Not sure I want him under those circumstances, but he might end up being a consummate professional once the wheeling and dealing is done. Doubtful.

Besides, it seems Rodgers has gone to effort of stating no 'big name' signings coming out way.

SpudRed

Ed who are the other two? spurs and maybe united?

mike {Ed002's Note - Neither of the clubs contacted last Thursday were English. PSG and Schalke would be a decent assumption.}

17 Jan 2013 15:31:31
Im told Luis is pushing for a move im afraid. How much do you think we will get for him ed?. what team do you think he will go to? {Ed002's Note - We don't discuss money anymore - seemingly it confuses everyone. If he becomes available there will be plenty interest because he has been playing well. It has been discussed before so try out the search function.}

Amazing your privalliged to such inside information but still don't know where he's going. I'm not saying you're lying maybe you have been told but your lack of info suggests its made up where ever it comes from.

Oh it's just pathetic. Once a week this joker comes on here with a similar type line.

17 Jan 2013 15:15:28
Eds what's hondas situation? Is he available or has he recently moved clubs? Thanks {Ed001's Note - he is available.}

17 Jan 2013 14:46:18
Just seen on the bbc website that Rodgers is annoyed at suarez for admitting he dived. Could this mean that suarez could leave in january or in the summer?

Think you may be looking into that a bit too much. He is hardly going to applaud him for taking a dive.

Suarez will go no doubt about it

Rodgers has to say that he is going to take action. Because if he doesn't then the FA will.

Mart86

You have to look at it in simple work terms.. The boss is not happy with something the employee has done. It's not a massive deal tbh.

17 Jan 2013 16:48:43
The press are really making a meal of this "Suarez must be a terrible person - even his manager says so!". Rodgers said they will deal with it in house, which is of course the way it should be...what else was he going to say? He wasn't going to damage his reputation by saying its fine! Suarez was honest enough to admit it, Rodgers was honest enough to admit that it's wrong, I wouldn't imagine that much else will be done. Suarez doesn't do himself any favours saying these things, but the way I see it, Rodgers had redeemed the rep of the club with his comments.

If Rodgers sells Suarez in January he'll be out of a job by May!

No, he'll just be disciplined.

Doesn't it mean he's annoyed he dived!
Red nick

It could mean the there is a possibility of twinning the Mersey with the Orinoco. Or it could mean that there will be snow in August. It could also mean that I'm sane or that I'm not. Blog, blog, blog.......etc.

Jag

No it means he won't be invited to tea anytime soon. Get a grip he won't be sold.

Another great bit of PR by BR. Magnificent public support for his player. This is the first time i've known at LFC for a manager to publicly criticise a player. The fact that he's our best player makes in even worse. The normal way was to do everything behind closed doors. Now we've got reality TV following the team and this. Remember KK fell on his sword for Suarez. BR is a total fool
G {Ed052's Note - he was asked about it. What is he meant to say. I wont punish him? He said it would be dealt with in house, and thats all he could say}

Well said ED 052, can't believe your slagging off Rodgers! He was asked in a press conference nd he awnsered the only way he could of nd should of. Some people are clueless

Yea look at the outcry when kk foolishly defended him in the race row
well done BR

dave

I agree with Mart86, for all we know he could have said to Suarez behind closed doors that he doesn't want it happening again but the reason he came out and said he wasn't happy and that it would be dealt with internally is so that Suarez couldn't be 'dealt with' by the FA

Looks like Mart86 and I were right, FA have said no action will be taken against Suarez. Hopefully we can all get on with our lives now, and enjoy the snow! Pauly P

17 Jan 2013 14:45:48
Rodgers has just stated in his press conference there will be no big name signings which seemingly rules out Sneijder, as the eds ect have been saying

He also said Andy Carroll wouldn't go out on loan....

Brendan's January transfer update

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Liverpool are hoping to conduct further incoming transfer business before the close of the January transfer window. {Ed002's Note - Like Tom Ince and someone on loan?}

Do you remember werner saying the fans will be very very happy in january with the signings the club will make and admitted that they had made mistakes haha complete joke! {Ed002's Note - So you are unhappy with Sturridge - 2 goals in two games not enough.}

"We'll see what happens over the course of the next few weeks",
where does it say that in this statement which is what rodgers really said.
when asked directly about sneijder he said "You could probably rattle off about 20 names and the answer would be the same. The club have been linked with a whole host of players, but I couldn't see that happening"

Look at the facts of it QPR have more ambition than liverpool now there prepared to outbid clubs and take a gamble on players, we don't have any ambition under BR and fsg .when Werner said all fans will be happy after January transfer window he was pulling our pud .sturridge is a good player, but we've lost 3 players to get him. Like in the summer .i think fsg were mislead, by some people early on but now they have no excuse .just think we will drift further and further away now {Ed052's Note - QPRs ambition is to avoid relegation. Last time I checked, that wasn't our target, so you cannot say QPR are more ambitious}

17 Jan 2013 18:47:56
A complete joke. I'm happy with Sturridge but Werner's comments about the fans will be really happy. Can't see that happening! signing an ex trainee like Ince or Sturridge is hardly marquee signings are they Ed? {Ed052's Note - big tent signings are not my thing. A cheaper tent, that gets better with age is what I go for. Lower maintenance costs}

But Sneijder is not a big name. It is only 8 letters.so must be still a possibility. But I can definitely rule Vennegoor of Hesselink as the big name we will sign

I'm sure Paul Lambert shares your sentiment Eds, look where that's got him! Youth is all good and well but in moderation, we should be busting our nuts to land a player like Wesley Sneijder, if we can't afford the numbers fine but I refuse to believe Liverpool are not interested in putting an offer to him, he is rejects it then fine. But he is world class and has pulled strings for some of the best teams in the world, but wait he is 28, who cares? Get him in! {Ed001's Note - ludicrous how ignorant you are. Lambert brought in Vlaar, he has experienced players there, but injuries and lack of effort has meant he has had to miss out on the experience. It is not his plan to only use kids at all. We also have a number of experienced players, such as Agger, Reina, Skrtel, Johnson, Enrique, Downing, Gerrard, all of whom play regularly. We don't need to worry about what age they are or how experienced a potential signing is. We do need to worry about whether they command wages we can afford though, which is something that is an issue with Sneijder.}

Some of these LFC fans make me laugh. What are you expecting? For us to be in with the likes of Falcao etc. We haven't got champions league football. It's BRs first season in charge. It's a very different team. Different style of play. LFC has changed so much in the last 6 months alone. We can't expect to make incredible signings just because we want it. I wonder how many of the fans on here are playing football manager!? + Jan is not the ideal time to buy players with over inflated prices. We're undergoing a long process here, be patient. We're already seeing results. Can't expect us to challenge for 4th straight away but we're not exactly far away are we? Pauly P

This may have been "done to death", but do you still reckon there is no interest from Liverpool for Sneijder? Whether or not we like his demands is a different issue but as for the interest, has there been any contact or attempt to negotiate?

Because we can either keep signing expensive British flops with "resale value" and "potential" or we can start investing on some top European talent, because quite frankly, no top player is attracted to us in our current state. Sneijder will improve our rep and make us more appealing in the future transfer windows.

If we can come to some sort of comprimise on the wages along with the £6.2m fee, that is a no brainer for arguably the best AM in the world.

Dave {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has made no offer to Inter. The situation remains (1) The exclusivity agreement expired on Tuesday night and for the first time since the Gala offer was accepted Inter could talk to another club. (2) Neither of the two clubs approached by Sneijder's agent last Thursday are interested at the salary being requested by the player's agent. (3) The agreement for the fee between Inter and Gala is still in place but Inter want everything resolved ASAP so they can bring in his replacement - as time passes there is a possibility they will lose him. (4) Gala has agreed a salary with the player (well publicised in broad net terms) and want the matter resolved so they can make other arrangements if needs be. (5) Sneijder wants matters resolved but wants to see if other offers will be presented, and wants time to consider them. (6) Inter and Sneijder have yet to agree their severence deal completely with a demand for between 1M and 2M euro (I am not sure the exact figure) in dispute. THis would stop any deal being completed - so it is an important factor. (7) On Monday night a rather bizarre situation came about with previous suitor Fenerbahce's Yildirim saying he could not see how Galatasaray could afford the player and the player should move to the Sukru. Aysal responded saying that he would send his plane to fetch Sneijder and he could agree, as he left the plane, to either "create fire with the lions or fight fire with the birds" - something which sort of passes me by but apparently meaningful in the Asian part of Istanbul. Expectation is that matters will be resolved by Sunday - but I am not sure Sneijder is in agreement with that.}

Thanks Ed, would love to have him here, but really appreciate the information :-)

17 Jan 2013 14:25:47
anything on Juan Iturbe very talented youngster ? {Ed002's Note - Iturbe won't be moving to Manchester United in January as many expected but there is a chance of a move in the summer.}

17 Jan 2013 14:02:35
Hi Eds,

A Problem We Have is The Goalkeeper Issues. Is there any chance we are looking for a first team keeper now or the summer to replace reina ( has been poor lately) and are there any candidates to succeed him

thanks

GAM# {Ed002's Note - Aside from an enquiry with Butland's agent I am not aware of any goalkeeper looking likely now. The summer is some distance away.}

Reina has been off form but the answer is not in a signing (certainly not Butland) - Brad Jones is a great 'keeper and doesn't deserve to be on anyone's bench.

Haven't posted for a while now! Everyone saying about sneijder needs to look at the situation a bit better! He's a good footballer yes, but the term 'value for money' is used a lot by the owners and current management:
He's 28 so in the last few years of his career having played abroad for all of it, untested in the premier league making him a gamble.
Players transfer fees have dropped since the uefa rules have come in ( in my opinion ) the true cost of a player is becoming more and more important to clubs with the money, let alone clubs running with very little money.
I believe the owners would sooner see the club sit mid table while developing youth and investing into the club so that they have good foundations to take it back to the top, I believe they will pay good money for very good talented young players ready to hit top form when the foundations are complete.

For that reason sneijder won't sign in my opinion.

I would take erikson at 16m over sneijder at 8!

Lfcmatt

If you think we will get Eriksen for less than £25m in the summer you must be Ian Ayre

But Sneijder would consider a move, Erikson would only go to one of the top 6 or 7 teams in the world. ie, the ones that EXPECT to win their domestic league and have a realistic chance of winning the CL (Madrid, Barca, Bayern, ManU, Juve, Inter & AC)

Erikson would cost over 16 I reckon at the moment, and he certainly wouldn't consider a team not in the Champions League.

In the last few years if his career? He is twenty eight not thirty three. He will probably be around at the top for another six or seven years

Totally agree but Erickson would also be a gamble as being untested in the premier league so for that reason I would say if you could get sneijder on reasonable wages and the fee is within reason why not take the gamble as the man has bin quality for 6years consistently at a very high level and international level too . Get 4 years good service from him easy. Then sell him for a few million wen he's 32 33 for the likes of suso to take over .this is all thearieticol because we won't sign sneijder as I don't think Rodgers has even looked at him this window.

17 Jan 2013 14:34:10
I see the positives and negatives of signing Sneijder, and i'm not quite decided yet, but just playing devil's advocate, was RvP value for money? Virtually no sell on value, but has pretty much carried United this season, and if things carry on the way they do, will win the league for them (yes I know it's a team game, but his goals have made their leaky defence much less noticeable). Is he poor value for money? I for one would be more than happy if LFC bought a £24m player who could make that much difference to the squad, and to be honest I don't think were too far off, other than a change in attitude - but we all know that can't be bought!

Your thoughts would be interesting. As I said, just playing devil's advocate

Probably one of the best posts I've seen on here for a long time. Well done to you sir.

Eriksen is never 16m !

The problem with your theory is that Eriksen has openly said he wants a move to United or Barca, his preference for United. And when they inquired about his last summer he was valued at £20m. He has gotten better and a year old since then. If you could steal him away, you'd probably have to pay £25m+ for him and pay him a very hefty wage for his age. If.

So, basically £40m fee and wages over 4 years would buy you Eriksen if you could convince him and then let him develop into a major star along with your other youth filled team or you could pay £30m over the same 4 years to get a 28 yr old prime years experienced international that has won leagues, cups and champions league during his stays in Holland, Spain and Italy.

Value for money is a multi faceted thing.

SpudRed

See Erikson does not want to join LFC.

He has not interested in joining us, there are plenty of good footballers out there who won't want to join either.

We are left with the best of the rest, unless the bigs cubs don't want them. We are not everyones first choice anymore.

Dublad

But would you take Sneijer at 8m over Allen at 15m

I also don't think Sneijder will sign, however, I don't agree with your appraisal of the situation. Sneijder, while not proven in the Premier League has plenty of playing time in him 28 is not old, he may be reaching the beginning of a downward slope in his overall arc as a player, but he has a lot of experience and has consistently played at the very top level of the game for the last number of years. Erickson looks like a good player but he is very much untested, the level in the Dutch league is quite poor, no disrespect to the league, what I have seen of him in the Champions league and international games is that he has great potential but is likely to go missing during games, I'd like either player but if it were a straight pick, I'd take Sneijder every time, and I think the need for some experienced players is so blatantly obvious that I would hope the club would be thinking similarly!

Gman82

17 Jan 2013 15:36:34
I would take Erikson over Sneijder any day of the week...however would take Sneijder over neither of them.

I agree with most of that.
The problem is the young, potential stars of the future need older players to learn the game from. Surely lads like Suso, Sterling, Ibe etc will learn more from playing and training everyday with somebody of Wesley Sneijder's calibre? Christian Erikson looks a brilliant prospect but it's a gamble to pay over double the amount on a lad who might not fulfil his potential as opposed to paying a relatively small fee for 1 of the best players in the world. I know Sneijder's wages are reportedly a problem and he will have no resale value. But the same thing applies to Robin Van Persie. Now and again you may need to make exceptions. Gerrard said last week that Gary Mac was a major influence on him and he learned a lot just by sharing a dressing room with him. I think a lot of people mistakenly claim that once a player hits 32 it's the end. Or at least his value is negated. Ryan Giggs got man of the match last night and he's over 38. Steven Gerrard might still be a key man in 4 years time. What's so wrong about that? The Italians have been at it for years. Paolo Maldini was at at least 65 when he won his 5th European Cup a few years ago! Liverpool are the last team that should be afraid to buy an older player considering they have lots of lads in their early to mid 20's and a lot of young lads coming through from the academy.

This is quite probably the most educated reply I've read concerning Sneijder. He is a great player but the fact he's also been injured for a long time and Inter are willing to let him go for such a small fee reeks of problems. I for one agree a player of Erikson or De Jong would add more for the value for money. People need to realise its a business not FIFA or Football manager.

Why do people keep going on about the age of the players? Most pro footballers retire at the age of 36, having played there best up to on average the age of 33, they sign on average 4 year contracts so if anyone does sign him on a 4 year contract at the age of 28 they will get there use out if the player. Everyone seems to forget how old Sudanese was when he signed for real in a big money mive

Sign him up he is a great player it means that we coul sack off Allen

You people seem to really overprice players! I wouldn't go for sneijder as I think Isco at 10-15 million is a better deal. Eriksen at 13-18 million is also a better deal as we could sell on for 40million+

Erikson to be fair is inconsistent. I rate him highly in terms of potential but if watched regularly i have to say i think some rate him far higher than is his worth
In saying that i would like him here, but do not think it will happen and certainly would not pay over the odds for him which unfortunately someone almost certainly will. Good footballers such as Erikson are blown out of proportion and worth so inflated its stupid

gareth

I want to reply to everyone but a lot of people have posted! Haha

In response to Rvp yes he is worth every penny, but he's played in the English league for a while now, so the price outweighed the gamble in my opinion, they knew exactly what they were getting and although still a gamble, a very small one compared to what I believe sneijder is,

I don't know many players that last at top flight at the age of 36 that will accept the wages dropping with performance levels, I think most great players end up in what I will call 'retirement football' banging them in for fun In a less established league earning silly money and paying very little tax.

I agree with everyone, if sneijder joins liverpools wage structure for a good fee then I would take him because class is permenent but for me he's in it for the money, and there is always someone willing to pay crazy wages, so it's up to him, play football in our league on our terms as a club, or retire early for silly money

If I've not covered everything I'm sorry!

Hi Eds,

When BR was at Swansea is signed a young lad Donnelly from Irish Club Cliftonville. There is a strong rumour going about here that Donnelly could be making his way to Anfield, i heard this as Cliftonville had a sell on clause and are rubbing their hands at the thought. Have you heard anything on this eds, as far as i remember i think we were looking at him before he moved to Swansea....cracking player by the way. {Ed002's Note - I have not heard anything at all.}

Donnellys agent is from Belfast. He showed me a mail on his blackberry that was sent from Comolli. LFC offered Donnelly 50K as a signing on fee and 5k a week + bonuses. I wouldn't be surprised if BR went and got him. Thou he hasn't been tested yet in the PL. The Irish league is poor. Donnelly was simply senentational. PS He supports Man U

I really hope not! he isn't lfc material by any stretch of the imagination

Thats not bad money for a young kid to be earning. I know the Irish league is no where near the standard of EPL. But as you say Donnelly was sensational! Look at McClean for Sunderland and i think Donnelly is twice the player of him.

Rory Donnelly was a decent young player in a terrible league, I live a 2 minute walk away from solitude so I watched him playing every other week. He was never good enough to go across the water hence why he has never got a chance at swansea and there are still players in the irish league that are twice the player Rory is.

17 jan 2013 15:05:09
that's absoulute nonsense he's a cracking player if he was so good why isn't in swanseas first team so why would liverpool want him maybe to water the pitch or clean the trophy room .. i mean get real irish league football my grandad could play in with his walking stick .. get off that pritt stick its liverpool not hartlepool

Complete nonsense he can't even get close to Swanseas side at present what chance liverpools we need players that can change side now not in 5 years

"PS He supports Man U".

Please poster, firstly sign with your name, and secondly, show us proof of the above statement.
You see there are many jealous fans of other clubs who inadvertently say that player called "X" or "Y" supports Man Utd when they don't infact!!..

17 Jan 2013 17:29:10
We were never in for Donnelly. It was the cliftonville chairman trying to get a good price for his player. When he said Rory was at anfield for a chat with comolli I asked a "staff" member about it. We had never ever enquired about him. And if we were signing anyone from n.ireland he would know about it.

There was a rumour of Donnelly joining when Kenny was manager. This was during a week long coaching session the club arranged in Belfast (University of Ulster). Think Ian Rush was at it. Anyways, with the Donnelly link it caused a bit of a stir and certainly put Liverpool on the radar with footballers in Northern Ireland. Just think of all the players to make it at United over the years from NI and Liverpool haven't had a single player....hopefully that will change with Ryan McLaughlin!!
Anyways, If Donnelly can't get into Swansea team, I don't see are scouts being interested (even with ex NI international Barry Hunter as chief scout).

17 Jan 2013 13:05:33
hi eds, any interest in Bony? would love to see him at L'pool.
LJ {Ed002's Note - Wilfried Bony was of interest to Newcastle over the summer and has been a player Chelsea have been considering for a while. Recently there has been varying degrees of interest from Marseille, Aston Villa, QPR, Liverpool, Everton and a couple of German sides (Hamburg and Schalke) but only Marseille is pushing. It would not be a surprise to see interest from other teams, possibly Napoli and Roma. The player has said he would like to join Chelsea. Whilst an offer is imminent from one side and efforts are being made to get interest from Russia, any move in January is by no means certain and he will be away at the ACON until the middle of February.}

17 Jan 2013 12:51:18
I'm not going to argue with any of the Eds who all have a better in depth and inside knowledge of the football world. Just something I saw earlier with regards to Sneijder which at least gave me a little bit more hope/wishful thinking!

Sean. {Ed002's Note - Sorry Sean but your calculations are all incorrect as you have ignored the significant issue of a net figure being used.}

Thanks for correcting me Ed002. I thought the figures I saw earlier might have been a bit fanciful and too good to be true! Still, I was probably only about 50 or so grand a week out, or roughly the amount we were spending on Joe Cole's ciggies each week according to some people :)

Thanks again, Sean.

17 Jan 2013 12:38:16
It appears Holtby maybe availiable! Is it a player Liverpool are considering or looked at? Or do we simply not have the funds? Ideal candidate long-term and has shown signs of real potential

RedAds {Ed002's Note - Holtby is not available. He has agreed a move already.}

Why is anyone clicking 'believable' on this statement? Holtby agreed a move to Spurs this coming summer but his club have indicated that the move might actually now occur in this window. He is NOT available! I know we all get things wrong from time to time but come on fellow reds let us at least read the news stories before reacting to the headline ;)

Where has Holtby agreed to move to? {Ed002's Note - Spurs.}

17 Jan 2013 12:18:13
The money issue with Sneijder is stupid.If we look at mechandising and shirt sales alone we, ll make millions.It, s obvious these owners are trying to balance the books in order to sell over the summer.All this youth policy is added value.The only question about Sneijder is will he be an asset when they sell us.They are full of ....and certain people are buying everything they say. {Ed002's Note - Nonsense and another unreasonable dig at the owners. Liverpool does not get the money from shirt sales.}

Agreed. FSG can't win.

DaveyBootle

It's obvious you are clueless about anything to do with club finances!!

CoolhandLFC

Fantastic to see someone sticking up for the owners. If we all get behind the club it will be in a lot better position.

I thought Shirt Sales were part of the negotiation of players contract so arent they all a different %? {Ed001's Note - shirt sales are nothing to do with a player's contract. Sometimes they have image rights, but that is not solely, or mostly, shirt sales.}

17 Jan 2013 15:22:37
Agree totally with eds on this .. So its the owners fault if we don't sign Wesley sneijder how come ? Why pay this guy kings ransom remember kewell and Cole he's not tested in the epl he's a history of injuries and would you not like the money invested on a tried and tested talent .. Saying that I'd like to see him at anfield lol but I don't see how its the owners fault if he goes elsewhere . Wishful thinking

Club finances? With this sort of 'advanced business knowledge', I'm surprised he can make change when he goes to the corner shop!

17 Jan 2013 15:19:55
As a matter of interst - Who does get the money from shirt sales? I thought it was dependent on a player's contractual situation? By that I mean is it not a case that the player gets x amount from shirt sales and the club get x amount? I often read about the splits in percentages in terms of the player's image rights, commercial rights etc. By that rationale surely clubs often do make big sums of money through player shirt sales? Wasn't Beckham's deal with Madrid the most famous case of that?
Apologies in advance if i have that arse about face! {Ed002's Note - The money from shirt sales goes to the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer, who can make extra adding numbers and names to the shirts. If the club are the retailer (club shop, club website etc.) then they get the retailers cut. The manufacturer (Adidas, Warrior, Nike etc.) pay the club an amount each year which allows them to manufacture and sell the shirts using the correct logos etc.. That is how they justify the money given to the club. So if you walk in to a high street store and buy a Liverpool or Arsenal shirt - nothing goes to the club. There are a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with manufacturers (Real Madrid with Adidas and Barcelona with Nike are the two obvious examples) based upon joint reselling ventures. So the income from shirts is fixed to the £xM or whatever Adidas, Nike etc. pay the club plus a small amount for reselling through the club retail outlets (shop, web).}

Lets talk in the summer when suarez is gone and we have signed nobody

With that he picks up his ball and goes home...

(Do you not remember these are the people that saved the club two years ago?)

First time poster but all the people sayin Torres is comin back need to wake up to the fact that he sulks all the time and is not even half the player he was at us under Benitez people forget that he was rubbish under woy and kk. Unrelated but I also heard that falcao has signed a precontract with real Madrid so he won't be going to chelski

Ynwa
Isrightlad {Ed002's Note - There is no pre-contract with Real Madrid although they are one of the clubs with interest in Falcao.}

17 Jan 2013 14:56:02
For all those who want Torres back, just think he sulked before, he will sulk again. Unlike Suarez who will keep running for 93 minutes for the team even if he hasnt scored.

17 Jan 2013 11:07:23
One potential spanner to throw into the works is that Paul Ince seems to be linked very strongly with the Blackpool job. If he goes there then I imagine that Tom will think twice about wanting to leave in January.

Would you want to play with your dad....? {Ed002's Note - It happens and will perhaps happen again very soon at International level.}

If Paul Ince was about to manage my club I would do everything possible to leave before it happened.

I suppose eventually when many other managers turn them down Blackpool will get as far down their list as Ince. But will that be before the end of the transfer window? Think about it, would you want to work for Oyston? The last two obviously didn't!

At international level? {Ed002's Note - Yes, International level.}

I would imagine that would make him want to leave more.

Yvonne

17 Jan 2013 13:37:28
if we bought him and he didn't get much game time would history repeat itself?

If I was Tom Ince and it was announced that my dad was taking over at B/Pool I'd sign for Liverpool or any other EPL club interested like a flash.Ince was a fine player and at best a mediocre to poor manager and his meddling over his son at Anfield could have wrecked Tom's football career.

The Plank

17 Jan 2013 14:52:03
Paul Ince is a C*ok and also Karl Oystan knows we are a soft touch. I hope we just break all communication with Blackpool FC to save the further embarrassment for LFC. Let Swansea pay £7 million. Tom can thank his dad for ruining his career.

Is Gavin Strachan coming out of retirement Eds? {Ed002's Note - WE are expecting a handover during an international game that will see father replaced by son as substitute and retiring at the end of the game - as the father did with his own father many years ago. I shall leave you to figure out who - but I will be supportive and go to the game if I can.}

17 Jan 2013 09:49:46
To anybody else thinking of posting a bring Torres back post.....

We do not want or need Fernando Torres back, all these clowns quoting figures of £15-20 million to "bring him home".... He realises he should never have left blah blah blah.... He has scored 7 goals this season 1 more then Kone from wigan. Bearing in mind that Torres probably has 5/6 chances a game and Kone probably has 1 or 2. Does this mean that we should be looking to bring in Kone for around £10-12 million??? No.... It means Torres is past it, for once a brilliant piece of business from LFC getting rid as he started his decline. End of chapter can everyone please move on now. Thanks.

Cant think of a clever name

Ok just cause you said so. Il think of a name for you if you can't.

Spot on, but what about Alonso?

Just like we didn't need rush back in the 80's?

Alonso for a clever name?
xabi won't come till the summmer if he does

Excellent comment, Fernando Torres doesnt deserve LFC

This is doing my head in now, if he comes back then great, if he doesn't then oh well.. If we get him back I think he can recapture his goal scoring form. I play semi pro and was scoring 12-15 a season as an attacking mid, moved teams and it didn't suit me. Lacked confidence and didn't get on with players, got about 2 goals and eventually moved back to original team. Now in 12 games I have 6 goals and 8 assists, back to my best! Just how it works out sometimes.

Personally, I think we should sign Torres.

Cant agree with this post anymore if I tried. He was awful the last season with us and has been awful since. He is a spent force and we done VERY well to get that fee for him. Look forward and not back. Trust in BR as we rebuild and we will reap the rewards.

17 Jan 2013 12:08:13
i think we need torres at liverpool because we are poor side in general. we have 2 class players suarez, gerrard who is not the player he was, the rest are average....
I do think we will have new owners in summer and a new manager......

I personally wouldn't mind taking torres back as another option but i wouldn't pay more than 3 million for him on current form

17 Jan 2013 12:27:36
I'd have him back in the morning, Carroll can give him back his no. 9 jersey, Fernando Torres Liverpool's Number 9, na na na na na

SioLFC

It was STEVE GERRARD that made Torres, not Benitez . How come everyone has missed this crucial point

What squad number do you think he would have? If he came back...

Christ alive, Torres is a busted flush and will have no sell on value whatsoever. When will you all "move on". Liverpool have purchased Sturridge to play through the middle, so there really is no point going back to Torres who hasn't played well for 3 years and sticking Sturridge back on the bench as he was at Chelsea! Also, yet again, for the umpteenth time in the last 2 to 3 years Liverpool would be spanking good money up the wall...

Great post. It's 2 years since Torres left and what has he personally done. In hindsight it was a great deal by LFC, shame a lot of that money was wasted on Carroll. If only we had bought someone like Cavani then (who we may have got) ?
Torres' success was based on Alonso and Gerrard behind him. Once that combination was broken, so was Torres.
We need to look forward, although personally I do not BR is the man to do it so I would not want any more money wasted on useless players. The owners have given him another striker, let's now see what he can achieve the rest of the season. If he doesn't finish in the top five, he should go
G

But people, think about this, let us say he comes in and scores goals while on loan. Do you not think Roman will want him back at Chelsea anyways as he will have Torres and quite frankly they don't need to sell Fernando to fund for Falcao. So Falcao and a firing Torres(IF he does so when loaned to us that is) will be beneficial to them. Now that is on the assumption that should Torres fire for us IF he joined, abeit a loan hence my understanding is that IF we move for him, it is either a Permanent or NOTHING!!...

"I do think we'll have new owners in summer and a new manager!" Yep the billionaires are lining up to buy us from FSG.As I recall FSG were the only serious bidders when they bought us and kept us free from relegation which was about to happen under the Yanks. So who are these moneybags mate? Tell us and put us in the picture.

Great post.. couldn't agree more with you!

17 Jan 2013 08:52:35
what's the point of us pushing so hard to sign Tom Ince he's really not that good and there's better value abroad i.e Auba, Mertens, Draxler

Matty W

Cannot agree more on this. Sick of the drama played by the media and blackpool on this. look stupid trying so hard to sign a player that had only 1 good season in the championship.

Who is Auba? sorry just asking. Is it Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang? Anyway I agree Ince is not bad but, those others are better

Blackpool and the media making fun out of our club again.
Just tell Blackpool to do one and don't do anymore business with them. As in other business ventures, blacklist them. Their loss not ours
Zaha - £6m ? Younger, better and cheaper if you count on the 35% we get back when Ince sold.....

Same as with Carroll! only had half a season in PL, the rest was in Championship!! We need to stop getting done by clubs for overpriced english players!

Draxler is one of the hottest young properties in Europe and well out of our range. We couldn'y compete for him, we can for Ince.

We're not pushing hard to sign him that's why he's still at Blackpool. My word some people!

Yep i agre, think we should leave ince where he is and focus on another player.saying that, i don't think we are done in this window and hope BR suprises us with some cracking signing we are all going to get excited about.fingers crossed

Just saying but draxler is probably the best player in the world when he comes to his age level.
AnfieldUSA

To the poster above, you notice that Gotze is just 1 year older and is worth atleast double WHATEVER Draxler is worth. Not to say Draxler is bad, but he is certainly NOT top in that age category of players, however i can say from Gotze, Draxler, Moura, Erikson who ALL play in the same position, Draxler is above Eriksen atleast IMO...

Draxler is a beast

That's what you go by? Price to determine if a player is better? Who would you rather have, sneijder for 10million or modric for 25mill?

Obviously Oystons interests are his own club.but when he wants a player on loan from us, or to sign an LFC player, he forgets the uncomplicated manner in which we deal with them.So memo to Ayre and co.REMEMBER! because this AIN'T 1st time Oystens played games.Next time he"phones us", screw him over double and BIG time, in "What goes around", fashion! {Ed002's Note - I still expect a deal for Ince to go through.}

I live in blackpool and deal with reps and locals who are season ticket holders and they've all got the same view of oyston he's a s***e, tight arse git that's one of the reasons Holloway left.

Oyston has a very selective memory, I do believe (correct me if wrong eds) when Ince went to Blackpool it was due to his contract ending and LFC could have pushed for a higher compo fee from them but did them and Ince a favour by smoothing it all over with a small fee and sell on %

it annoys me to hear Oyston is treating LFC with such a lack of class, when we have done them well over recent years (Shelvey & Wilson Loans & Ecclestone and Bruna for free) {Ed002's Note - No idea but I would not blame someone negotiating to get the best deal he can for his club.}

I think after the Charlie Adam deal we should stay clear of Oyston
There are better options out there instead of Ince, if Blackpool don't want to deal in a respectful manner they ain't worth dealing with
There's one thing trying to get the best price for your club another showing total disrespect from the media and go be honest Ince jr and senior ain't exactly forcing the deal through {Ed002's Note - SO you think Oyston should sell players on the cheap and make it easy for buyers? If Spurs are to make an offer for Sterling in the summer of £3M - you think Liverpool should just say "sure, you can have him" or do you think it might be better to negotiate and get £10M?}

I think getting the best price for a player is one thing but turning it into a media circus is a whole different level, all i am saying is smaller clubs like Blackpool should not be so aggressive and bitter, yes get your best price, that i have no qualms over, but don't turn it into a circus and blame the larger club via the media. these stories coming out of refusing to take calls from LFC make them sound petulant and make it seem LFC are on the phone every other minute.

Its so easy for smaller clubs owners to smear the names of the bigger clubs and use the "One rule for big clubs" card. I have no problem with Blackpool, it seems like a really good club, its Oyston who gets my back up. {Ed002's Note - Perhaps it is the arrogance of those like you who see themselves as a "bigger" club being able to bully the "smaller" club in to selling their players. You happy to give up Suarez to Barcelona for £25M should they come calling?}

Ed 02, please get real and stop being a tubelight! Why on earth would we even put Sterling on the market??. If your going to give an, example then, let it be realisitc!! {Ed002's Note - And thank you for providing an example of that arrogance for all to see.}

Oh come on, stop taking the moral high ground, any fool and his dog would call us a "bigger" club over Blackpool. nothing arrogant about that at all?? and as i have previously stated I have no problem with them wanting the best price, every club is entitled to that, what i am against is people like Oyston who are power hungry and quick to use the media to reveal the ins and outs of a deal. maybe if so many things were not leaked a resolution either way would be reached earlier and both clubs can get on with their business {Ed002's Note - I am sorry but it is his player and his business. If he wishes to avoid conjecture in the press and on sites like this then his route to doing that is to make a statement to the press. This is not about Liverpool at all.}

17 Jan 2013 15:18:52
I dont.

But at what price would a 'deal go through' though.

I'd forget it for now a try again in the Summer, when there's a chance we could get him for compensation (set by a tribuneral), if the 1 year extension clause has kicked in.

17 Jan 2013 20:35:01
I have no problem with any owner/manager/DoF pushing for the best fee they can get - what I don't like (and it seems to be always be Blackpool or Wigan) is when an owner uses the press to get there. I hate that everytime we deal with Blackpool there's a story, obviously leaked at the Blackpool end, that says Liverpool can't get their calls returned. If you want to walk away from the table do it graciously "There has been interest but at the moment Tom's a Blackpool player and we hope that remains the case" - "Every player has a price and we would not stand in the way of a player looking to take on new challenges" - what's wrong with statements like those, regardless of club size and prestiege.

But from our end we should probably be a little stronger, if you don't like doing business with someone you shouldn't do it as either supplier or consumer. Let's not send anything else their way in future, no loans, no youth players, no transfers - not good business.

17 Jan 2013 08:42:50
Ed's it's been reported that Blackpool won't speak to us regarding Ince... It's this BS or Blackpool being their usual defiant selves ?? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

More a thought than an actual rumour. i don't know anyone at lfc nor do i know anyone related to anyone who works there anyone whos heard from the neighbours dog that so and so will be signing soon. so here goes. i think (hope) snjieder could well end up at liverpool, he clearly doesnt fancy galatasary, i think we could then take torres on loan for rest of season. lets face it given the choice with the benefit of hindsight i don't think he would have ever left. if he proves succesful for the rest of the season they could sign him for 15-20million which would be covered by carrol fee. this would allow suarez to leave for a fee i expect between 30-40million and lfc get 2 quality players, lose 1 and have suarez money for summer signings. makes perfect sense. plus we get to see abrahamovic sob as torres plunders goals for lfc again. note to roman, when you bought torres you made one huge mistake. you forgot to but gerrard. gerrard+torres=daglish+rush. simple equation. cheers RedLeighLfc

I like this idea

Agree that singing sneijder is somewhat crucial, especially to convince Suarez to stay. we don't need torres anymore, let bygones be bygones. And we can't afford to lose our best player which is at the moment Luis Suarez. Sturridge Sneijder Suarez the three s will be a great strikeforce, with Suso Sterling and Borini as cover......Ynwa

What kind of idiocy is this?

If Snjieder wants to come and his wage demands are resonable them yes a small gamble worth taking.

But I really do not understand the constant banging of the Torres drum!! Has anyone actually watch this guy since he left and for the last season he was at LFC? He has been a sack of pants for this period of time - he is very very very unlikely to ever be the same guy LFC had for 2 years. We need to keep Luis - forget Torres!!

DAVIS YNWA

Losing Suarez wouldn't be a good idea. Torres would play better at Liverpool no doubt as there would be far less pressure on him, but he isn't going to change games like he used to as he has lost a yard of pace. Suarez at the moment is probably one of the top 10 form players in the World. With 40 million you can't do an awful lot anymore (Downing and Henderson). They were poor signings and is a harsh example, but you will struggle to purchase 5 or 6 players that will fit the bill.

17 Jan 2013 10:04:28
How do people forget that time moves on? Gerrard and Torres were a great combination 3 years ago. Gerrard is not that same player anymore. He's still a really valuable part of the team but he can't hold off the ageing process! As for Torres - his time in the big time looks over. Even in the 6 months before he left Lpool he didn't look right. The few injuries he had definitely left their scars. Torres main weapons were his pace and ability to finish. The pace seemed to be waning in his final days at Lpool and a complete breakdown in his confidence has hurt his ability to finish. Obviously that could be rebuilt. But the pace can't be. Essentially you're talking about bringing back a player who now only has half of his previous powers. As someone else has said - the way to move forward now is to try to place other good players around Suarez NOT to sell him in attempt to raise 40m that would no doubt be spent on 3 or 4 average players. The fact that none of the Eds on here appear too confident on the Wesley Sneijder front doesn't fill me with optimism but it would be an amzing deal if it happened. It's not often that a world class player is available for less then 10m regardless of what his wages would be.
Although I know nothing about the likelihood of transfers etc - it seems there could be a slight possibility given that (at the moment) Sneijder doesn't appear to have lots of suitors. Although there's still almost 2 weeks left for Man City, Utd, Chelsea, Paris etc to show their hand late on in the window which may coax Sneijder into accepting a bit less a week to play for a club capable of challenging for trophies. Let's hope they don't and that by the last day of the month Liverpool are the last club standing!

So I gather the idea here is to get an out of form/past it Torres in, take a gamble on Sneijder and then in the summer lose Luis & Carroll.

Aside from form and talent, it's a bit short sighted shifting from 2 young strikers to 2 aging players.

I would welcome the punt on Sneijder as many people have mentioned even if he is older, his presence and experience would be a serious benefit for the (many) younger players we have at the club.

misterdrumz

Lets face it sjnieder (spelling?) is a gkaring opportunity staring lfc in the face. forget the moneyball theory. champions league qualification would easily cover the cost of a player of his quality. torres will never ever be the player for chelsea he was and still could be for liverpool. form is temporary class is permanent. he needs gerrard and when he left lfc he left his mojo at anfield. he's wasted at chelsea. suarez is brilliant but he's ambitious. i think juventus or psg will be his next destination so we need to prepare now.

Suarez would cost 50-60 million {Ed002's Note - No, not that much.}

1) torres is past his best and has lost the pace he once had 2) Gerrard is far more reserved and past his prime when torres was here gerrard was at his peak at 28 now he is 32 and both of them have slow build play resulting in less goals than they had 3) Suarez is a lot better suited to play with gerrard now as he is more of a supplier than a goal scorer evidence with gerrards assists being at a record high. 4) Why live in the past we have done in the last 20 odd years. football is different. no you say!? KD best player to ever play for liverpool won everything as a player and as manager. 20 odd years on with roughly ten years out of management doesn't have the same magic. Things change we can savor the past and learn from it but you can never go bk there so why try?

17 Jan 2013 12:32:50
Are people mad!

Torres is shocking and has been for a number of years, even prior to leaving Liverpool. He has Hazard, Mata, Oscar (all talented playmakers who cost a lot of money) creating chances for him every game, he is unbeleivably poor. He also left us, at a time when the club was struggling after stating that he would be at the club for potantially the rest of his career or at least the forseeable future. People have short memories and I do not want this foll playing for our club again (he left us in the sh*t)!!

With regard to getting rid of Suarez, that would also be a real mistake as we should be building our team around him. Do not sell your best player as we can't attract world class palyers as it is due to no CL football.

Are people on the same planet as me... To expect to succeed and challenge the top 4, we need strength in depth and we don't have that at the moment. Selling your best and most influential player would be absolutely pointless!!

Look forward to hearing other views....

AdLFC

What a gobrubbish-buy torres and sell suarez, you should be in a loony bin mate!!

I wouldn't describe it as a thought, more a moment of dillusion.

At best it is a stupid thought.

I was thinking why don't we bring back michael Owen, he linked up well with a young gerrard once upon a time!!

Let suarez go and bring In 2 signings with the money an Torres on a loan mate your must jokin suarez is a thousand times the player and man Torres is, he's just rough on finishing but when he gets it he's sublime he's a scrappy and unreal player and i count us blessed he wears our shirt. Your eds gone for even thinkin on wantin Torres over suarez! He spend too much time on his highlights the little bitch.

You're deranged! I'll ignore everything except for your idea that Torres could join us on loan.If you can supply 1 atom of evidence that he's available on loan give it to us.I suspect this is a product of your fevered brain!

The Plank

At no piont did i say i wanted lfc to sell suarez. i suspect come the end of this season certainly by the end of next i don't think lfc will have a choice. i was merely saying torres could come in on loan til end of season. IF he showed a return to form he could return and when suarez leaves, which make no mistake about it when he decides he wants to he will we could use his transfer fee to add to a squad with sjneider and maybe an in form torres already in it. at no point would i swap torres right now for suarez. but suarez will only stay if we get CL football i think.

I like to check out your page because it's busy rumour-wise but there are some stubborn fans on here. youre lucky enough to have the likes of Macca and ed002 here to tell you there is no LFC interest in snjeider but still....
Bren

I saw Torres at molyneux on his last game for LFC. He spent the whole game daudling, played with head and shoulders down and made lazy runs. He scored 2 goals.

Goals win games regardless of his attitude. Things at chelsea just haven't worked out for him. I think he'll fit well back at lfc and with the kop behind him (very unlike Chelsea - fake fans), I reckon his attitude would improve 10 fold.

morning ed, s
have we looked at this guy Benedikt Howedes first and foremost a monster of a defender-one of the best in Germany.
Rugged, fearless, dependable and very comfortable in possession, Howedes is a rock for Schalke {Ed002's Note - There was interest about a year or so ago. I don't know of anything more recent than that.}

GM ED just couple of questions. With LUIS SUAREZ coming out and talking about he's diving and that South American footballer get treated differently to the local footballers." Do you think this is the start of him making he's exit from us Liverpool, and the fact that we are not going to make top 4 this season to another season without CL football could really push him away. Its plain to see that we are not going to buy anymore players in January. I would really like all these names of players that everyone ask you about and I read the same post again and again, So if you could just share you thoughts I would truly appreciate it. {Ed002's Note - I don't think South American footballers get treated any differently to others. I have no idea why Suarez has said what he has. He has in the past antagonised the FA (as he did with an interview given in Amsterdam this past summer) with what he has to say and made things difficult for the club by claiming interviews given in Spanish could not be understood in England (he is not the brightest spark). There remains interest in Suarez if he were for sale - he was courted by and himself courted a club in the summer and they may look to a bid. We will see.}

Interesting Ed, so his head has already been turned once - who was the club Suarez was courting? {Ed002's Note - Juventus. I shoudl say that Juventus are looking for two forwards for now or the summer. One will almost certainly be Llorente as we have discussed on many occasions and everyone had a gamble at 8 to one or whatever it was. They have a list of three players for the second role, and one of these is Suarez - again this has been covered previously.}

What I don't get them Ed is if he courted Juventus why did he sign a new contract? Bit silly if he was looking to leave. {Ed002's Note - He ws offered a great deal of money to sign a new deal. Suarez is no different to many players - he is susceptable to advice from agents etc. and then there was the involvement of Nedved, Caceres etc..}

Suarez is going nowhere give it a rest already.

So presumably Juventus would also have paid him a great deal of money too so he could have signed for them rather than signing an extended contract.

Just read that llorente is possibly going to juve for about 4 million? I know liverpool can't sign every player but how have they not attempted to sign him for so little? {Ed002's Note - It doesn't work like that. Try the search function about Llorente.}

I am quite certain Llorente will go to Juve but i don't think he will go till summer.

Hi Eds, what are the chances of Prince Boateng? IMO a more feasible option for us than Sneijder.

Gogol {Ed002's Note - There has been no interest shown, so slim at best.}

17 Jan 2013 03:37:06
Hi eds and Reds, Liverpool are possibly lookin oly for a midfielder. Ince deal is down, believe v has enuf options upfront now. The possible midfielders are Sneijder and Sissoko. The links wit Sneijder are growin strong accordin to reports.

17 Jan 2013 00:28:34
Hi eds the names Kouyate (spelling), Dragovic and Ferren apparently all CBs kept cropping up around town today, I know little to nothing about these players any info? {Ed002's Note - I assume there was some type of fantasy football convention in town?}

A question to Editor 2 since you are an expert in french football.
I thought Yann M'Vila was a very highly rated player. it seems now that he can be bought for just only £6.2mil. why is he that cheap all of the sudden ? why aren't bigger clubs after him ?

miccmak {Ed002's Note - There are several reasons: (a) M'Vila's contract is expiring soon, (b) He has had significant off-field issues with both club and country - he is now banned from playing for his national team, and (c) His performances in recent months have been poor.}

BR won't be bringing in another player like M'Vila. It would be an open admission that Allen was a mistake

Hi Eds, have we been looking at Diego Poyet? Luke Shaw? Will Hughes? I feel all three players will be future stars for England and could be for Liverpool.

Also who are we scouting at the ACON? Who should I be keeping a eye out for?

Many thanks

Normy {Ed001's Note - don't know, yes and yes. No idea who we are looking at in the ACON and I haven't checked out the squad listings yet. I will put myself a note now to do it tomorrow and put up a list for anyone interested in reading it.}

What is the ACON?
{Ed007's Note -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EEW-9NDM5k&feature=youtube_gdata_player

What is ACON - Really!?? {Ed002's Note - Africa Cup of Nations.}

There have been reports of us scouting both Will Hughes and Luke Shaw but everytop club has so it doesnt mean rubbish! Luke Shaw could be interesting as a future LB.

Please guys, it's the AFCON (African Cup Of Nations) not ACON

Saladin Said
24 years Ethiopian striker who plays for an Egyptian club. they bought him just for 180,000 euros. last i checked serbian FK Partizan are after him.

miccmak

Thanks Ed002 - I was actually being sarcastic - I was amazed that anyone who cares enough about football to be reading a rumor site does not know this abbreviation.
Thanks

You mean the Luke Shaw who has just pledged his future to Saints-see Saints WS???
I did once think you Liverpool supporters knew your football, but you are starting to sound like Man. Utd and Chelsea-"he's good, we'll have him, and him, and him etc." The difference is, they have the funds to back it, you don't so it does start to sound silly.

Hey eds do you think there is any interest in gomis as he is a great finisher, good in the air and strong on the ball {Ed001's Note - I don't know of any interest from us in him, QPR (though to be fair they have looked at everyone since 'Arry got there) and Newcastle have looked at him over the last couple of weeks. Not heard of any move in the offing from an English club though.}
