Does any one remember when roy evans was in charge, and houllier was bought in to work with him, finally seeing evans leave the club. does this bear any similarities to the hodgson/ comolli situation?
or, do NESV intend to bring in a young manager to work along side hodgson for a season or two then dismiss him?
what do you think ed; lads? {ed's note - the fact that Hodgson never knew Comolli was being appointed says it all to me.}

Liverpool will looking to do a straight swap deal with babel and m'vila. They are also tracking kaka's situation at real (possible loan until end of season due to lack of game time). Ed do you think kaka could work for us? {ed's note - not really, his wages are way out of our price range and he has been out injured for a long time and will need months to get back to form.}

Hi, was listening to TS on my way home and their South America correspondent was talking about Lucas Barrios of Dortmund being heavily linked with Liverpool in January.
He reckoned he'd be a great signing as he's scored a hatful of goals at every club he's ever played for.
His description of him was quite good, as he said he's a very awkward looking player, who looks like he shouldn't be able to play. ( Crouch anyone) But can. He said he looks like he's running in a pair of borrowed wellies that don't fit him!
Personally as long as the first bits true ( scores a hatful of goals ) he can look like quazimodo for all i care!

"PAUL SCHOLES, WES BROWN, RYAN GIGGS, GARY NEV, JONNY EVANS THAT I KNOW OF"
Most, if not all of those were at the club before Ferguson. The previous manager put the youth policy in place and had also saved the club from what looked like relegation. Had it not been for his " off football" activities, which got him the sack, he would have confirmed that he was a better manager than Ferguson and Ferguson would still be dossing around the Scottish league.

{Editor's NOte: You really need to go and check some details here.}

Ha ha Johnny Evans was born in 1988, saf to over in 1986, that was an incredible foresight of the previous management to find johnny evans mum and get her to sign a contract on behalf of her son, even though she wasn't even pregnant with him at the time! genius

I'm assuming that Hodgson wasn't at the reserves yersterday because he was supposedly off scouting in France. My question therefore is why he is scouting for players when it appears to be common knowledge that he's off at the end of the season, or maybe sooner?

At the moment it's more 'common wishful thinking' than 'knowledge unfortunately, unless Red Henk's got the message but is just not letting on.

NESV want Liverpool to be at the top (or build their way towards the top). And they won't do that by keeping a manager who isn't getting Liverpool the results, added to the fact that key players dislike him and will possibly leave if he stays in charge. So why would they keep Hodgson given the possible circumstances of his staying?

Stop all this nonsense about scandanavians, argys, PNE young boys, spurs or villa rejects, etc, its all total bollox, they are not rumours, just the soundings of fans who have nothing better to do.
Give some evidence to back up the total tripe that people have started to put on here. i cannot believe the deluded predictions of some of our fans.
The only thing for certain is that NESV will act at the proper time and in the proper way. When they don't we can all start having a pop at them & rightly so.
They are seemingly working in the background the old liverpool way, which is what we should all want.
Transfers will be announced when they have happened not when they might happen.

Alot of people seem to be reading a little too much into what Damien Comolli said regarding a world class player in my view. The way I understood what he was saying, was their strategy is to buy young, talented prospects that can grew up and develop with the club BUT should we be made aware that an Aguero, a Mata or a Pato where available at a fair price (£20-30m, I'm guessing) then NESV would fund it.

I don't think he was saying there WOULD be a world class signing, so much as, in the right circumstances, it's possible.

Doesn't seem at though Poulsen is interested in a move to Sevilla.

Jorn Bonnesen, representative of Christian Poulsen, ruled on Tuesday the possible return of the Danish player at Sevilla,
a possibility that had been rumored.

"He is happy at Liverpool, " said Bonnesen. And, as Boness said the midfielder wants to succeed with the 'reds'. "Poulsen is not one to escape the
situation with their tails between their legs.'s He's a guy who'll fight for his place and demonstrate its value, " said the agent.

Liverpool decide to take chance on Barton

Liverpool Football Club are ready to take a punt on Adam Barton.

The 19-year-old has reportedly been watched on a number of occasions by the Reds this season, and they have been impressed with that they have seen.

Barton is currently under contract at Championship strugglers Preston North End, who are resigned to losing him either in January or at the end of the season.

Barton, meanwhile, is set to win a first cap for Northern Ireland when they take on Morocco in a friendly on Wednesday, despite being capped by England at Under-21 level.

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Oscar Wendt and Behrang Safari, according to a club scout.

Jakob Friis-Hansen - Liverpool's Scandinavian scout - is quoted in the Danish media explaining that he has been monitoring the defenders with a view to Roy Hodgson making a January swoop for the pair.

"We are keeping a good eye on Oscar…Oscar Wendt does a great job, but he must play at a high level every week, " Friis-Hansen said. "In Denmark there are just a few high-quality games."

Wendt is a Sweden international who currently plies his trade as a left-back with FC Copenhagen - who were once managed by Hodgson - and could be available on a free transfer if Liverpool wait until the summer to make their move.

Safari is also a Swedish left-sided defender who currently competes with Wendt for a starting berth in the Sweden national team, and could be snapped up by Liverpool from Basel for around £3 million.

Despite both players occupying the same position, Hodgson is thought to be keen to add both to his squad as he looks to bolster his defensive options.

Liverpool Transfer Targets To Be Decided By Three-Man Panel Of Damien Comolli, Roy Hodgson And Chief Executive

The Committee

Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli is to set up a three-man transfer panel to ensure consensus when the club decides on its targets,

The Frenchman wants himself, manager Roy Hodgson and the incoming chief executive to all have equal power when it comes to determining and chasing potential signings.

All three will discuss possible targets and their viability and will each have the right to veto moves so that no deal is done without 100 per cent backing of the main decision-makers at the club.

Comolli's idea is to ensure the key figures at Anfield take collective responsibility and avoid the internal conflicts that marred his time as sporting director at Tottenham and have led to scepticism over whether the two-tier European model can work in English football.

It is within this proposed framework that Comolli said on Tuesday that Hodgson would have the final say on all transfers, as no player will be signed without the full backing of the three-man panel.

While Reds legend Kenny Dalglish will not be given a 'vote' on the transfer panel, the club ambassador will have some influence in a consultative role. Comolli has also revealed the Scot will play a part in his recruitment policy to convince players to sign for Liverpool.

Comolli was appointed earlier this month by owners New England Sports Ventures and will oversee the club's transfer policy, as well as the development of homegrown players in the academy.

The 37-year-old has already decided with Hodgson on the club's main targets for the January transfer window and the pair have been in direct discussions with principal owner John W Henry and NESV chairman Tom Werner, in the absence of a chief executive following Christian Purslow's resignation

Despite Henry suggesting earlier this week that Liverpool will not spend large sums in the New Year, Comolli and Hodgson would like to make significant changes to freshen up the playing squad and funds will be made available for the right targets.

The Reds have been linked with a number of emerging talents in European football such as Lille playmaker Eden Hazard and Dimitri Payet of St Etienne, while Comolli has revealed the club will also target young British players.

Henry has been keen to lead from the front in directing his vision for Liverpool since NESV's £300 million takeover in October and has appointed headhunters Spencer Stuart to find a new CEO to take charge of the day-to-day running of the club.

NESV hope to appoint a new chief executive by early next year to complete their boardroom changes at Anfield.

Okay, I've said this before and painfully I'm going to have to say this again, seeing as there are a lot of imbeciles on here; CHRISTIAN POULSEN CANNOT BE SOLD IN JANUARY! He has played for us and Juventus this season, so unless we're selling him back to Juventus, which is extremely doubtful, then he's ours for the season.
In January we are looking at a top class player, as Comolli has stated, while it is very likely that Hodgson will be sacked after the West Ham game. I'm hoping for an attacking manager to replace him, heard Boas a lot on here and from your recommendations on here, he sounds like our type of guy.
The "big-named" signing Comolli spoke of, I know I may sound of my cracker here but I think it might be Aguero. He does want to play in England, he'll happily leave Atletico and Nando knows him from his Atletico time, which he knows will improve his game. I also believe a combined signing of Matuidi and Payet may be on the cards for £15m.

I HAVE BEEN TO MANY GAMES BUT IM STILL YET TO SEE POULSEN PLAY ANY FOOTBALL, I HAVE SEEN A HEADLESS CHICKEN RUNNING AROUND BUT SURELY SPECIAL DISPENSATION WILL BE AN OPTION HERE!

Theres an Aqualini Report on SSN saying he would like Glen Johnson at Juve. He also states that he doesn't know if he will stay at Juve (although he wants to) as they will have to pay 16m Euros for him (approx £13.5m).

TBH I didn't think it was that much (i know it was over £10m but not nearer that figure).

Also Klinsmann joined Toronto in Oct 2010 so hopefully he won't be considered as a candidate for the new managers position!

Aquilani tells Juventus to buy Glen Johnson.

Alberto Aquilani is recapturing the form which saw Rafa Benitez part with £20 million to bring him to Liverpool during the summer of 2009. Settling back in to life in Juventus on a season-long loan, Aquilani has made his intentions apparent; he is seeking a permanent return to Italy. "I hope to convince the directors of Juventus to buy me from Liverpool, " he said.

Alberto Aquilani on Glen Johnson, he urged his former teammate to sign for Juventus. "What former Liverpool teammate would I bring to Juventus?" he asked on skysports.com. "From Liverpool I would take Glen Johnson."

Comolli targets top players.

Liverpool have prepared their strategy for the January transfer window and have identified potential targets, Damien Comolli told the Daily Telegraph. Whilst the club will not be rushed into making 'panic' signings who do not improve the standard of the squad, there is scope for marquee signings to be made.

Brought in to oversee player recruitment, Comolli said that if a world-class player becomes available at the right price, New England Sports Ventures will be prepared to sanction and finance the deal. "We have a pretty good idea of what we would like to do and we have identified targets, " Comolli said. "If there's a possibility of us getting a world-class player, we will have the backing."

Inter to Sack Rafael Benitez As Massimo Moratti Sparks Off Replacement Search

Rafael Benitez is sitting uncomfortably at Inter and he could be thrown off the bench and out of the club, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

President Massimo Moratti has started to articulate clear ideas in an attempt to rebuild a broken state and he will consider sacking the coach.

Benitez has been summoned to an emergency meeting and will be warned he could face obliteration if he fails to clear the troublesome times affecting the team.

Moratti is furious with the Milan derby loss. He is a man used to seeing his club in charge, but it has been anything but this season. He is concerned at seeing a treble-winning side become a neglected ruin and is not at ease with the complexity witnessed.

The president wants fast and worthy change and will express his message to Benitez on Wednesday. He will be given the chance to explain and confront the problem.

Failure to improve could fire up comprehensive moves for change. Leonardo, Frank Rijkaard and Carlos Dunga have all been linked as potential replacements.

RE: here for the long term > Roy Hodgson

John Henry>We back our man to the hill.

I think the manager will be expendable in the new system, The key man at the club, will be the director of football. He will shape the team by buying the players.

The scouts > coaches and structure will be kept at the club. >

So > if the manager walks, he walks alone, none of backroom go with him, none of the players staff. Just the manager.

So we will be able to go through managers like they are going out of fashion, the club would like to to.

So liverpool will be going back to transfers by commitee, With a director of football, scouts, and the money men will making a list of players they think should be at liverpool football club.

Thats a big chain of people scouts>direct of football>board room>chairman>agents>player> roy hodgson.

So roy hodgson will be on the end of this chain, in theory he will be the last to know who is coming into the club.

By the looks of it i regretably think roy is here for the long term, others wise if you were right ed, owners would not be sending him to france to look at players would they. if he wernt staying they wouldn't bother sending him, they would be sending the scouts. plus bit silly to start buyers players if a new manger coming in isn't it

NESV and Henry keep their cards close to their chests. Why would they give any indication that Roy Hodgson is leaving? What happens then is masses of media speculation arises and it unsettles the team and then we have the exact same scenario that we had under Hicks and Gillette - club politics overshadowing everything else. NESV want to keep out of the media, out of the papers etc.! They are smart people, as is the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Camolli. Henry can see the team playing badly, Dalglish has seen it since Hodgson came - they will know.

My manager shortlist would be:

Joachim Löw - bel
Didier Deschamps - unbel

We'd struggle to get them now or in Jan, but I don't see why not in the summer.

I didn't know André Villas Boas until he was mentioned on here, wouldn't write him off, but maybe a switch to the Prem this early in his career would be asking too much?

Gourcuff was just transfered from Bordeaux to Lyon in the off season, mate. On top of that, his form has been less than impressive since the championship year with Bordeaux two seasons ago. He is pretty much jeered every time he steps on to a pitch in France because he is seen as a Judas and a merc. So unless you want another Masherano situation, I suggest we stay away from that guy. By the way, Gourcuff's name and the word pace are rarely used in the same sentence.

I don't recall saying I wanted Gourcuff at Liverpool. I was using him as an example for portray my point that when Camolli was talking about a "world class" signing, he was talking about this type of player as opposed to a "golactico" type like Kaka.

Camolli has identified just one 'other' player (to date) who he feels has the quality, strength and power to succeed in the Premiership and really make a massive impact on the team.

The player: Yoann Gourculf, the French international who is currently playing for Bordeaux (I think!).

A fee in the region of £18m has been banded around and initial enquiries made.

Lets hope it comes off!

Liverpool need to snap up Andre villas boas as manager! He fits the criteria and is young enough to start a long career with the club! For me he would b an excellent choice and let's face it he learnt from the special one himself! Although seems to play more attacking football than Jose which is a good thing for liverpol I really really hope nesv consider this guy! {ed's note - I don't see that his age matters, I mean Hodgson is 63 and has 35 years experience.}

Agreed on Hodgson, but he should have never got the job. I'm not being ageist I was just pointing out he does not have much managerial experience. I think at this moment in time though we need someone with a bit of experience to "steady the ship" which Hodgson clearly isn't doing.

Boas clearly has managerial ability and he'll gain experience at Porto. He learned much of his trade off Mr.Mourinho and he plays more attacking football than Jose. If anything, a good young manager is better for us because we'd have him for the long-term and he could be part of our future.

I don't think we should get too excited yet about any january transfers. There may be a possibility of one or two. although world class players sort of depends upon your definition of what/ who is world class.
We have to start to accept the reality of our position. we do actually face a time of rebuilding. in many areas. For us the reality is that we have to live within our means. no badt hing. but it will mean a period lacking in any major success on the field.
Take below for an indication of life in the real world, taken from the guardian

"John W Henry's cautious notice about what is likely to be a quiet January for Liverpool was to be expected. In contrast to his predecessors, Liverpool's owner intends to run his new acquisition along sustainable lines, which should not be too tricky as even their inflated wage bill is covered by matchday and commercial revenues.

Liverpool's view that January is a notoriously difficult time to purchase players is not born only of parsimony. But prudence means keeping costs in line with income and although Liverpool have access to short-term finance from Royal Bank of Scotland – first revealed here – there will not be vast sums coming in to the coffers in time for the transfer window.

In August Liverpool received £14m from the Premier League's central funds but that was before New England Sports Ventures' debt-clearing takeover, and cash was then committed to servicing interest. Like every top‑flight club they have, though, been receiving £1.5m a month from the league. In January there will be another injection of about £6m – plus the £1.5m monthly payment – but that £7.5m will hardly support a major transfer-market investment.

Instead it makes sense for Liverpool to consolidate that income with the near-£10m they are likely to receive in May for television appearances, while a top-10 Premier League finish brings in a minimum of almost £7m. Alongside that are the net transfer revenues raised this calendar year of about £15m. Even without selling another player, a summer fund of £40m looks realistic."

Lets take this as the model that NESV intend to utilise. it does make sense. it also ties in with leaving the roy situation until season end to sort out (barring an even more disastrous run) the future plan as we all know is for a stream of youth players to emerge. yes we have highly talented and promising youngsters already, and i think the plan is to have a conveyor belt of players coming through.

The whole problem with this is the short term. it all does make sense. so long as roy doesn't manage to leave us stranded mid table come season end. because that will place unbearable strains upon NESV financial model.

Its not only liverpool football club that has to be smarter. roy has to up his game now. he cannot rely on defensive football. he has to change. the big big question is has he got it in him to change

After all these years I'm bored with the specualtion.
Endless wish lists - "Hey Ed, what do you think of this line-up? . . and then they put in Messi, Zidane, The pope, David Cameron, Drogba and every bloody name their internet search engine supplies them with!"

I live in the real world and it doesn't have YouBook or TubeFace or t* tter, so I have no interest in having 398 imaginary friends and endless wishlists from 12 year olds to deal with!

LFC - I am coming to terms with us now being "an average club with a massive history" but I am nervous about the new manager. Oh yeh! There is to be one and only Roy is probably hedging his bets.
We will be starting from scratch once again (cue endless wishlists of managers).

My only contribution to this today is to say it won't be Kenny Dalglish nor Guss Hiddink. I read and hear on internet radio, whisperings that Jurgen Klinsmann is still 'the main man' in the frame.
No bad thing for me.

Liverpool are closing on a £7million deal for Real Sociedad's highly-rated winger Antoine Griezmann as director of football strategy Damien Comolli says the club is ready to finance world class signings in January.

Sportsmail revealed last month that Comolli was keen on Griezmann after trying to sign him for St Etienne.

The 19-year-old was born in France but picked up by Sociedad in 2005 and has shown great promise in La Liga with Manchester United and Arsenal also showing interest.

However, Comolli looks to have beaten them to the punch as he looks to hlp strengthen Liverpool with the investment from New England Sports Ventures.

Comolli said: 'We have identified targets. If there's a possibility of us getting a world-class player, we will have the backing. John (Henry) and Tom (Werner) want to win - and you win with top players.'
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

19 years old, courted by Arsenal and Man Utd apparently. And a winger. I don't know much about this lad but promising that we're supposedly beating these two to him.

Happy Ed that we're hopefully addressing the width problems? I had a debate about this with you, saying we need iron in the midfield as much as width, but after the past few weeks, I fully admit I was wrong! We need width and fast.

Hope this kid is good. Long-term, £7m would be good. {ed's note - I have seen him a couple of times recently and he does look a great prospect, I think he will be an excellent signing IF he gets used properly.}

Will people stop talking about us getting £9M for Babel and £3-4M for Poulsen and Jovanovic and get real. Only top European clubs could match the wages we are paying them and would top clubs want them? I don't think so.
Babel will go out on loan in January and if he impresses we might end up getting £4-5M for him. The only way to get rid of Poulsen and Jovanovic will be on free transfers with us giving them a payoff.
We will buy two young players identified by Comoli in January and any big signings will be made in the summer once Hodgson has left.

From tribalfootball

Liverpool's director of football strategy, Damien Comolli, has confirmed that the club will make a quality signing in January if the price is right.

The Reds badly need some inspiration to help their two stars, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, and according to Comolli, things will happen in the next transfer window.

"We have a pretty good idea of what we would like to do and we have identified targets, " Comolli said.

"If there's a possibility of us getting a world-class player, we will have the backing.

"(Owners) John (Henry) and Tom (Werner) want to win - and you win with top players.

"If it can be done in January, great. If it can't because we feel it is the wrong market or players are overpriced, then we will wait.

"I'm not going to say we won't do anything in January because that is not the idea at the moment.

"We will do what is right for the long term. What is right for the long term can be something we do in January."

Lets just hope its a striker or winger that we go for and not yet another defensive midfielder. We need to get rid of ours (poulsen) as he's carp

News in the media that Insua might come back to us, as hagi (Galatasaray manager) has refused to use players on loan in his plans. .
A great news. . I think, he is much better than Konchesky and being only 21, he can learn alot. .
I think, we should also take a look at Urby emmanuelson or Taye Taiwo, both are at the end of their contracts and can be sign on low price. .
And then we let Konchesky, go. . He might be good but nothing of our standards. .
Ed, What are your thoughts, on all this?

{Editor's Note: Taiwo's situation remains unchanged - he wants to play regularly and seems happy to stay at Marseille. He has an offer on the table which he wants improving. I expect Manchester City to perhaps show an interest - but Liverpool really does not seem to be an option. Browsing some of my fellows wishlists I found a deal that could actually go through. Glen Johnson swap for Adam Johnson. City do not have a world class right back to go with their world class team, and while we know Glen is lacking a lot they might still be convinced because of his regular place in the England team. We would be getting a true winger with massive potential who can play on either the right or the left. I would take this deal in a heartbeat but the real question is would city go for it? It would be great to get Johnson's big waste of wages of the books and Kelly is surely more than capable to take over as first-choice RB until Carra's CB spot opens up. Ed do you think they would go for it? {ed's note - I wish mate, but I very much doubt it. Even if we could convince them it seems GJ has his heart set on Spain.}

To the person who posted:

"Originally named Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd (Everton Athletic for short), the club became Liverpool F.C. in June 1892."

"Thankyou. Read IT ORIGINALLY NAMED EVERTON FC! I knew I was right."

I think you are spot on. There is a piece of paper in the LFC museum supporting this. .ie documenting the name change form Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds . I also believe that when we were called Everton, we won the League (1890?) - so we are already on 19!
We can afford to relax this year! Because we can't be overtaken. .yet.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The fact is the 'Anfield' landowner that had leased the pitch to Everton from 1868 , decided in 1892 to raise the rates on Everton , Everton FC disagreed and left for Goodison Park . At that moment the landowner himself decided to start a Football Club as he already had the facilities and know how , he named the Football Club - Liverpool Football Club .

The document you are referring to is probably the deed to 'Anfield' , stating that the Football Ground has had a change of ownership from Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds to the new improved Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Gorunds .
