Eds. Nothing at all in these Shane Long rumours is there mate?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - I can't see Southampton wanting to sell Long and I expect Pelle to go first. Obviously paying over the odds could change that.}

18 Jan 2016 20:52:29
Owe I see. Ok mate cheers for responce, sounds like we could do a deal then if we stump up stupid cash like we often do. Surely there's better options about.

Ed 2 have we shown any interest in Shane long at this stage?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

Yes, the better option is to do nothing. Sit tight, wait until the Summer.

Is it on loan ed or to buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - To buy.}

19 Jan 2016 00:50:11
I know we're in mid table but are they trying to make sure we stay there, this has to be some kind of joke, Shane long who doesn't start regularly for Southampton, for the love of ch.

19 Jan 2016 01:47:00
If we sign long I would be hugely disappointed. Another bang average player to add to the ranks. I really really hope this does not happen. We will prob end up paying over the odds and wasting the cash. has to be better options or wait till the summer. I really do worry about our club and these sorts of decisions and possible signings. Long, caulker. reminds me of konchesky et al.

If the best we can hope for is Shane long in this window I, d rather we just gave Ibe the chance through the middle until the summer. We have Ings to come back yet, and I know people don't like him but why in the he'll not play our 32million big man up front?

Baz.

Agree2 Disagree1

19 Jan 2016 15:37:16
Long is level with Ings imho, if we got him on loan I think it would be smart business but I wouldn't pay 12m for him. Save it til summer and use it to buy a renowned striker.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jan 2016 17:09:56
Ings is a far better player than Long. Spending any money on Long would be a bad move, looking around there are no players available who you would want long term. So I think we should keep the wallet closed for now and let Klopp get players he wants in the summer. It's going to be a tough rest of the season, but to be honest I'd written this season off as soon as we started with Rodgers in charge.

Evening eds just a quickie to try and get away from the whole Mignolet thing. I've done a search on the Allen rumours but apart from a couple of indicisive answers and a conversion about the wrong Allan there isn't anything. Is there any truth in the Swansea interested in Allen rumour? With selling Shelve, buying Allen would make sense. Would we then look at Praet?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Swansea making any approach to Liverpool in respect of Joe Allen at this time.

Interest in Anderlecht's Dennis Praet has run hold and cold for a while and the likes of Ajax, Everton, Southampton, Hoffenheim, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Dynamo Moscow have moved on in the past year. Both Sevilla and Valencia had offers rejected in the summer whilst Aston Villa were also being kept informed by Anderlecht of any approaches for the player. and I suspect they might be first to put an acceptable offer on the table but there is no way the player will want to move there. Juventus were represented at a couple of games but were, I understand, unconvinced by the player - but I suspect interest will continue. Arsenal has again looked at him in recent weeks, once they new that there would be a January bid from elsewhere, but I am not aware of them taking it any further. However, Fiorentina has had several meetings with representatives of the player and Anderlecht - and are seemingly getting to the point where an agreement over a January transfer can be reached but their interest in another player has given them an unexpected twist to deal with. If Liverpool are again interested in the player, and I am not so sure why they would want to bring in yet another attacking midfield player at the time, he may well provide a suitable replacement for Coutinho if he were to leave - but not Joe Allen.}

18 Jan 2016 19:35:03
Sorry eds I thought Praet was a CM similar in style to Gerrard. Plays central but likes to push forward and orchestrate. Like Hendo but with better technique and flair. That sounds more unfair to Jordan than I meant.

Agree0 Disagree4

18 Jan 2016 20:56:23
Not seen any of Praet live. Just highlights. He is a skillful player from the looks of it.

I've seen one article compare him to Reus and another article compare him to Iniesta. So that's pretty unhelpful as they're like chalk and cheese!

18 Jan 2016 21:51:29
EMS,

Heh. I've seen Praet a bit; I don't think he's really like either player.

He's good, but nowhere near the technical ability of Reus, for example.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Jan 2016 22:14:49
Done a bit of digging on Praet. He is predominantly CAM but can play CM and either wing. Looks to have good pace and technical ability. Still a young and rough diamond it looks like with huge potential. Has quick feet, I just hope the rest of him is as quick otherwise he will just fall over a lot and that won't help anyone unless it's in the opposition box lol 😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2016 00:42:20
Praet's a good player. I try to catch Anderlecht games when I can just to watch him really. More of a prospect at this stage then the finished product, mind. This year he's played a fair amount in a wide role, in the past he was usually more central. He's not particularly fast, but has good vision, great feet, and a decent shot. At this point it wouldn't make much sense to bring him in as Ed said, though. I will say that for me his development has maybe fallen off a bit. A couple of years back he was pretty well at the same level he is today, so not sure how encouraging that is and I suspect why he went from being talked about being the next big thing to a bit lower in demand than that.

According to Spanish website Don Balon, we have entered the race to sign Javier Hernandez. Have you heard anything eds? How reliable is this source?

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - considering they snapped up the name of a defunct magazine, I would suggest it is not that reliable.}

Having played for utd and his current club in one season is he allowed to play for a third club in one season ed?

We shuould have gone for him instead of Benteke. But not sure if MU would have sold him to us.

Him or Jese (RM) would have been ideal for us.

Not sure again if RM would do business now.

Morning redmen

Sad weekend all round 😢
As my team lost a cup final, my sons team lost a semi final, Dagenham (where I grew up) lost again! And Liverpool lost to (insert name here)

Here's the loan update.

Luis Alberto scored the opener and played for 80 minutes as deportivo drew 1-1 with real sociedad.

Ac Milan beat Fiorentina 2-0. Ballotelli came on for a late cameo to show people he does still play football.

Brentford lost for a 3rd game in a row on Friday night! Canos may of jinxed the boys as he spoke about promotion in a recent interview.
They lost 3-1 to Burnley. Canos came on at half time when 3-0 down but didn't have the effect of Didi Hamann in Istanbul.

Vigouroux was involved in what looks like an absolute belter of a game at Swindon as they played Crewe at home.
Swindon were 1-0 up, then 3-1 down, before coming back to win it 4-3 thanks to a 92nd minute goal!

Wisdom was an unused sub as Bournemouth beat Norwich 3-0. Back to back defeats mean Norwich are now slipping away from there relegation rivals Liverpool.

All other loanees seem to have disappeared which is worrying. None have featured in a long time now.

And that's your lot redmen.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't think it was Canos doing. It is more because all their players want to leave for money. One refused to play against Burnley because they had made an offer for him. One was in dispute because Rangers are showing interest and the two clubs can't agree a fee. They are showing the problem of the short term view the owner has taken to building the side, they will always have to keep turning up gems, as their best players will leave the moment they get a chance. They are going to struggle to create a core to build around, similar to teams like Hull, which then requires constant rebuilds as the players are attracted there by promises of being in the shop window.}

18 Jan 2016 08:41:42
Ah ok, thanks ed.

Good bit of info there, I wasn't aware clubs promised that. You can never expect to build a team if players only join with the intention of using you as a stepping stone.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - lots of clubs do it to get better players. If you know your ambition is at one level and the player's ambition is another level, you can explain to them how they can achieve their ambitions by helping you achieve yours. It is very short term, but it is how clubs like Wigan got into the Prem, and Bolton, eventually though it fails and you fall away massively. You just can't keep replacing the players you lose. Southampton are realising that now and starting to invest to stem their fall.}

18 Jan 2016 10:25:42
Steven Gerrard did the same with Suarez when the Arsenal offer came in. Told him to have a great season with Liverpool and Barcelona will come calling, and they did.

Canos actually started the match and was replaced at half-time. I saw the first half on a Dutch station and I have to say Burnley were pretty clinical with their finishing. It's a pity that our midfield can't do the same.

Correct, Canos started, but had a bit of a shocker. Which I think was more of a blip as the pundits had stated he's been playing well in previous matches. Against Burnley, he was caught out of position on a few occasions, showed some poor control of the ball, and poor passing. Shame really as I only watched the match to see how is is getting on. To be fair tho, as stated, Burnley were top notch.

Markovic played and got an assist in there 6-1 win, played really well a lot of pace and drive was the main outlet for Fenerbache.

Taowi Awoniyi played in a friendly game to keep fitness up and put in a good 45 mins ( no goals ) but he looked strong and quick

the same for Yesil Mid season training camp played for 45 mins looked good.

I see the Mirror are now covering their arses over their 'Shane Long to Liverpool" non-story by saying that Saints have turned down the £8m offer!

So they sold a few more Sunday papers by breaking it, and are now burying the equivalent of a retraction on Monday!

You got to laugh!

Believable9 Unbelievable7

18 Jan 2016 03:11:49
Tabloid bullsh*t unfortunately sells papers.

The scary thing for me is that there's a general understanding of how the back pages are made up tripe yet so much belief and legitimacy is placed on the other side for so many people.

It scares me.

Agree1 Disagree7

{Ed002's Note - It should not scare you - go to the library and educate yourself.}

18 Jan 2016 03:18:38
I'm not concerned about me. My fear lies with a large portion of the brainwashed, propaganda eating public.

That's what scares me.

ED002

When you read a journalist writing such headlines in newspapers etc, about a player being the subject of a offer from another club, and representative are involved etc etc, or the player is trying to get out of his own club by forcing a move. And it is 100% fabricated which seem 9 out of 10 are. is that not bordering on slander, deformation of character or being purposely disruptive?

And if so are the players / club in a position to sue?

You hear of other people who are in the media (away from football) a lot pressing over certain claims and stories that came out and were completely untrue, but never footballers etc

Does the same media circus exist in the states in the NFL, basket ball, baseball etc?

Or are the press more careful over there in fear of a law suit being filed over them?

Regards.

Agree0 Disagree6

{Ed002's Note - Firstly journalists do not write headlines. Secondly there is a big difference between slander/defamation and a story about a transfer that is not correct. Nobody is concerned about being sued.}

18 Jan 2016 10:08:43
Plus they just say "from a source" to cover their own arses.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2016 22:09:03
I'm not entirely sure if there'd truly be any legal basis and it'd likely be very hard to prove but a club could claim tortious interference if an transfer story incited a player to go on strike? However, the club would need to prove that the story is bogus and there's no interest from the reported club/ buyer. Honestly though it wouldn't be worth the hassle.
