Joe Cole impressed Kenny Dalglish during the Reserves 1-0 win last night. Kenny has recently been quoted as saying he wants to play him as a central midfielder alongside Gerrard to add creativity to the team.

Instead of signing a new right winger, he will use Johnson as the right winger as he is very impressed with Martin Kelly but also likes Johnson's attacking style, his ability to take players on, his pace and his decent delivery into the box.

Fabio Coentrao has recently expressed his 'love' for Liverpool, who have been watching him for a while, with plenty of match reports and scouting programmes of him compiled under Benitez, particularly when he played for Benfica against us on April 8th 2010. Kenny would use him as a left winger but his versatility to play either left wing or left back is an added bonus to the squad.

Stephen Warnock will join on loan next week.

Ed, who do u think we r most likely to sign, and are there any players linked with us we obviously are not interested in? {ed's note - I don't know mate, Kenny, Comolli and the owners have only sat down and discussed transfers over the last few days. The decisions have literally only been made and acted on since then, so anyone saying moves were made beforehand is lying, as one of the owners pointed out today in his interview.}

Liverpool Transfer Update.

News will filter through tomorrow that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Luis Suarez from Ajax.

Ryan Babel had a medical and agreed personal terms with Hoffenheim but is also part of the deal to sign Suarez and favours a move back to his former club. £15m plus Babel has been accepted by Ajax, with a further £3m in installments over the next 2 years depending on goals and appearances.
Ajax were demanding £28m but Liverpool have managed to negotiate half of that fee, and offered Babel in exchange as a sweetner. Ajax are in financial difficulties at the moment and are under slight pressure to sell.
However, the deal is not dependent on the exchange of Ryan Babel. Should he opt to join Hoffenheim, Liverpool will add the money raised from his sale to the bid for Suarez.

Babel is already in Holland awaiting the green light to finalise his move to Ajax, all that is left to do then is for Suarez to complete and pass his medical and put pen to paper on a 4 year contract, worth £85,000 a week. Luis Suarez will wear number 7.

In an effort to posture for negotiations, Ajax officials such as manager Frank De Boer have constantly claimed that it would take an "absurd" transfer fee upwards of £27 million ($43 million) to secure the services of Luis Suarez.
Given such, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner was asked Wednesday whether or not the club still could make marquee signings like the £22 million paid for Fernando Torres in 2007.
His answer was simple: "Yes."
"Look at our history. The Boston Red Sox have the second-highest wages in baseball and we have been as successful, if not more, than the New York Yankees, " he explained.
He went on to say that Liverpool is a top-four club and that it would spend accordingly, reports ESPN.co.uk.
"We consider ourselves to be a big-four club and we have a lot of resources. At the same time we need to figure a way to grow our club because no-one is happy with the status quo at Anfield because we need to increase our match-day revenues.
"We have a very high wage bill and it shouldn't be such that we are 12th in the league right now. I don't want to get the wage bill down, I want it to increase and we have the resources to do that . . but we are not going to be making decisions which do not improve the fortunes of the club long-term.
"Everyone knows our long-term goals are to restore the lustre to the club and we want to honour our great history by winning more trophies, '' Werner added. "This has obviously been a somewhat frustrating period for all of our supporters so in the short term we just want to see some progress and hopefully under Kenny our fortunes will improve.

{Editor's Note: Whereas previously he was a little unhappy and issued the come and get me pleas, now he is captain of Galatasaray and playing well. Atletico Madrid have already made an informal approach for the player and I expect that a move may well happen in the summer with Sergio Aguero probably moving on himself.}

Who would people prefer to see at Liverpool Suarez or Negredo?

Damien Comolli is in discussions to bring Negredo in if Suarez deal can't be made.

I personally prefer Negredo as he reminds me of a typical strong English forward, would be a perfect foil for Torres. He is 25, 2 years older than Suarez but would be cheaper and has proven to score goals in a higher level than the Dutch league. Suarez is also good tho :D

Negredo: bel
Suarez: Unbel

Henry's dinner with Pere Guardiola was also an attempt to get a dialogue going with his brother, Pepe Guardiola. One of the guests at the restaurant, who has insisted he remain nameless, has confirmed that he overheard them talking about Pepe's situation at Barcelona.

Makes sense if you ask me. Pepe has shown at Barcelona that he is extremely attentive to the club's history. He's young, ambitious, and has the man management skills to get the best out of his players. And perhaps most importantly; he's high-profile enough to convince Torres to stick around for another season.

As far as i can see the story originated from the mail, and their article has no mention of them being photographed together. I wouldn't trust the mail in the first place anyway. =====================

No ed trust me we are, few days ago I posted about all the Suarez talk being fantasy , but I was wrong. lfc are in contact with his agent, not sure if its to just please the fans that they trying to get him (big name etc) , or they will actually be willing to pay what it takes to get him.
I also think this whole scenario is initiated by the fans and their rumours, they wanted Suarez and the owners will try.

Roy {ed's note - they certainly weren't a couple of days ago, if you are right I would think it is more that he is the King's choice than a move to appease the fans.}

Stephen Warnock coming back to liverpool to replace the now out of favour paul konchesky, Who looks like he will be heading to the midlands with 2 teams showing an interest, wolves who are also landing ex liverpool player adam hammil for 500,000k deal to be finalised tomorrow afternoon, and aston villa also showing an interest in paul konchesky which could be a part of an exchange deal for stephen warnock.

Spurs now out of the running for Ashley young, Liverpool and Manchester utd lined up to make bids by the end of the week. Ashley young is requesting 85k per week, My source tells me Manchester utd are trying to negotiate with Ashley young to lower the wage to 60 - 65k as they're trying to keep there wage bill low this season. Ajax can't afford to turn this down, especially when Suarez is adding to this media speculation.

It's a done deal.

{Editor's Note: It was a freelancer who sold the story to the Daily Mail.}

* * * * * * * * * *

True, but story was also realeased by NESN. If I was Henry, I would have hired a Freelancer also. Not saying that they did, but they couldn't have NESN cameras there. Now the ball is in ajax s court now, and with pictures of suarez's agent and Liverpool owners, they will find it difficult to hold onto a player who obviously wants to go. Do you not agree ed? {ed's note - Ajax have absolutely no interest in holding onto Suarez, they have serious money problems and need to sell players. The question you should be asking is why Suarez is still there and why there haven't been many offers for him?}

The Daily Mail claims that 'Reds owner John Henry met with the Ajax striker's agent in London on Tuesday night as talks accelerated over the proposed deal.

'Henry dined with agent Pere Guardiola - the brother of Barcelona boss Pep - as Liverpool move in on their No 1 January target.'

The deal is being described as 'imminent', with the Mail announcing 'Uruguay striker Suarez fancies a move to Merseyside as there are plenty of Spanish speakers in the Reds dressing room.'

Tottenham are also believed to have an interest in Suarez but Liverpool seem poised to win the race for his signature.

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner insists the club's owners are prepared to provide money for big-name signings if it benefits the long-term future of the team.

Since their £300million purchase in October there has been little suggestion from principal owner John Henry and Werner that substantial investment would be available for squad rebuilding.

And while Werner admits they are looking for greater value in terms of the players they sign, that does not preclude a significant outlay on the right individual.

That will come as welcome news to both fans and manager Kenny Dalglish, who is looking to bolster the squad he inherited from Roy Hodgson nearly a fortnight ago.

It is a particularly timely pronouncement considering Ajax coach Frank de Boer has stressed it will take "an absurd amount" for him to part with Liverpool's number-one target Luis Suarez.

Valuations of the Uruguay international stretch from £18million to £25million and it remains to be seen whether Fenway Sports Group, the subsidiary of New England Sports Ventures - owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball franchise and who originally bought the club - are prepared to go that far.

But Werner said taking a wide look at the economics of transfers did not preclude making major signings.

Asked if Liverpool could still secure marquee signings like the £22million spent on Fernando Torres in the summer of 2007 Werner replied: "Yes. Look at our history.

"The Boston Red Sox have the second-highest wages in baseball and we have been as successful, if not more, than the new York Yankees.

"We are coming from a market that is somewhere like Liverpool, we are not New York or London, and we have been successful in generating revenues which we have ploughed back into an excellent team.

"We will be driven by value but we certainly have the resources to have some targets.

"We are in this for the long-term and every pound that we make will strengthen the club.

"We do have great resources. We have a very high wage bill and it shouldn't be such that we are 12th in the league right now.

"I don't want to get the wage bill down, I want it to increase and we have the resources to do that - I just think we ought to be performing at a better level than we had been.

"I expect us to move forward and improve our position.

"But we are not going to be making decisions which do not improve the fortunes of the club long-term.

"There have been some decisions made which have set the club back and our hope is we will have some announcement to make but there is nothing I can say today."

Werner was keen to stress the long-term vision FSG have for Liverpool involves increasing income - with help from either a new or revamped stadium - in order to be able to invest in the club.

But he accepts that will take time and a far-reaching blueprint is not something which is easy to sell to supporters who are enduring the worst season for decades.

"Everyone knows our long-term goals are to restore the lustre to the club and we want to honour our great history by winning more trophies, " added Werner.

"This has obviously been a somewhat frustrating period for all of our supporters so in the short term we just want to see some progress and hopefully under Kenny our fortunes will improve.

"We consider ourselves to be a big-four club and we have a lot of resources.

"At the same time we need to figure a way to grow our club because no-one is happy with the status quo at Anfield because we need to increase our match-day revenues.

"At the same time I feel the long-term is bright and I am very encouraged about some of the ideas to increase our revenue."

It seems plenty of money will be required to lure Suarez away from Ajax after De Boer's latest comments.

"We know how important Luis is for Ajax. Only when an absurd amount is on the table should we let him go, " he told De Telegraaf.

"Luis feels good and is training well, I don't think he will leave at any cost."

Werner has also hinted that Dalglish could be in line for the manager's job beyond the end of the season.

Despite the Scot being considered merely a short-term solution to the Reds' stuttering season at Anfield, the American insisted that Dalglish's work had not gone unnoticed.

"You have to be thinking for the long-term. We're tough and we're hopefully looking out, not just for the club in the short-term but for the long-term.

"You don't like to sack anybody but I think it was time to move forward in a different direction.

"He (Dalglish) is, as everybody knows, an iconic figure in our club's history. He's got many of the qualities that we've admired.

"He's competent; he certainly understands the club's philosophy and he's excellent at man-management. And we've been very pleased with the progress.

"It's obviously quick and he's only been on the job for a short term, but he's quite aware of the challenge. The players are quite supportive of Kenny and I've been very impressed with him.

"I don't like to play hunches, but he certainly is a candidate and he understood that it was a short-term position; but he's certainly done everything not just to impress us, but our fans and players."

Suarez is still Liverpools favored attacker for the Jan window. Ajax manager Frank De Boer has stated it will take big money to land him, though this is not his decision as Ajax need the cash. What will ultimately make the deal happen is Suarez's desire to move (which he has already stated about a new challenge in 2011).
The Babbel deal could tip the scales as a sweetener for Ajax as the player wants to join on loan, but from LFC's point of view a sale is the preferred option which is why they have no problem accepting Hoffenheims bid.
Camolli also identified Negredo as an option (as reported by Guillem Balague).
My bet is Suarez will be at Liverpool in this window.

Only thing holding up deal for Suarez is the fee between the clubs. Personal terms at 85k per week have been agreed, it is just the fee that is the problem.

I would also say that a few wingers are being looked at and duscussed with the various clubs. Nothing agreed yet. There is the possibility of Warnock but that is all it is at the moment. I expect a cheeky bid for a certain Wolves winger and not much chance of a centre back arriving.

With regards to Hazard Arsenal want him but Will not pay the 20 million wanted. Due to being light weight I can see a move to either Spain or Italy more likely. We are watching him, but with the Prem being so tough he would take a he'll of a beating.

Liverpool's number one January transfer target - Ajax forward Luis Suarez, looks set to arrive at Anfield after Reds owner John Henry dined with his agent Pere Guardiola on Tuesday night.

Guardiola was snapped with Henry and his wife Linda at London's San Carlo restaurant suggesting a deal could be done and announced within a matter of days.

The Suarez deal appeared to be off yesterday after it was revealed an offer had been received from Bundesliga outfit 1899 Hoffenheim for Ryan Babel .

Babel looked to be a key part of the deal and was quoted as saying he'd even take a pay cut to return back to his old club Ajax after transferring to Liverpool in 2007.

Valued at a reported £27m by his Dutch club Uruguayan Suarez is likely to come to Merseyside for £15m, however Babel's estimated worth of £5.7m would have softened the deal if he went the other way.

Manager Kenny Dalglish has noted that Fernando Torres is in desperate need of a strike partner and 23-year-old Suarez would offer the perfect support. LFC.TV

Ajax manager Frank De Boer has played down Liverpool's chances of signing their striker Luis Suarez after stating that no "super club" has come in for the player:

"Suárez would like to continue here as a 'super club' is not coming for him. He trains very well and feels settled. So far I have not worried about it. When I talk to Suarez, he says he wants to stay"

Asked whether a figure in the region of Edin Dzeko's £27m transfer to Man City would be acceptable, De Boer replied:

"Such an amount would be welcomed by any Dutch club."

Van Bommel to sign this transfer window! Small fee due to contract running out this summer.
In my opinion this will be the most influential transfer of the window. We are desperate for another leader on the pitch, with the owners aim to bring in young players we need this signing. He has nothing to prove and won't let the pressure break his game like its doing to the majority of our players. Thing this signing will help the struggling players.
Turan is a strong target, honda deal on hold till after asian cup, toivenen or suarez and warnock on loan with a view to buy.
Owners keeping most things under wraps as they don't use the press to get to players like other clubs like to.

Sport.co.uk can confirm that meetings have been scheduled with a number of top European clubs next week at the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar with representatives from the Premier League trio of Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa expected in the Gulf state.

The Japanese international scored his nations 1000th international goal in the2-1 win against Syria, with the archipelago set to play hosts Qatar in the Quarter Finals.

Liverpool are considered to the favourites to land Honda with Kenny Dalglish and Director of football Strategy Damien Comolli keen on the frontman, while Arsenal scouts and Aston Villa representatives are also present in Qatar with both club manager's fans of the forward, although Arsene Wenger and Gerard Houllier could baulk at the price-tag of the forward. AC Milan have also been tracking Honda since the World Cup last summer.

The player's representative confirmed to Sport.co.uk that meetings were scheduled for next week, where Honda's future would be concluded.

"Several clubs have confirmed their interest." Kees Pleogsma told Sport.co.uk.

"My son is going to Qatar tomorrow to have a number of meetings. But, we will have to wait and see who is seriously interested in Keisuke (Honda). You never know.

"Time is going fast in the window. I really hope something can happen, but I don't know. As I said my son has a number of meetings, but so far nothing is concrete, we must wait and see."

Honda has been considering his future at CSKA Moscow after it emerged in 2010 that the club were considering cashing in on either Alan Dzagoev or the Japanese international, with Honda angling for a move to Europe with Arsenal, Liverpool, and AC Milan the confirmed suitors following an impressive World Cup.

The 24-year-old CSKA Moscow striker has been subject of intense speculation since his successful World Cup campaign with Japan although thus far no formal bids have been launched, with only interest confirmed by a number of clubs. However the player's future looks finally set to be decided by next week.

The Japanese international started his career at Gamba Osaka, the same club as former Arsenal player Junichi Inamoto, before moving onto Nagoya Grampus Eight, the club from whom Arsene Wenger joined the Gunners in 1996.

John Henry was in discussions with Pere Guardiola (Peps brother) last night over the Suarez transfer. Pere Guardiola is his agent.

We're still hopeful that a deal can be struck, but the fee is still looking to be the sticking point. I'm pretty sure that we'll never pay more than £18M for him, so we'll have to see if Ajax will budge on that. There is also still the chance that Real could jump in at the last minute - they've been linked before and could be in the market for a new striker.

Lukaku looks likely to be signing for Man City, strangely. It'd be a shame if he does, as I doubt he'll see much playing time there. I didn't think he would be signing for us, in all honesty, but I figured he'd go to Chelsea.

As for Arda - well, it's very likely that he would opt for Atletico. He's made it very clear that he would like to play for us, but it's all about guarantees. If they say he'll be a first-teamer and we're still mulling over whether we actually want him, I'd imagine Atletico would seem the more attractive option. Also, we all know that Kenny rates him highly, but there's no guarantee that Kenny will still be there in 6 months time, so he could find himself surplus (depending on the next manager).

Let's see what happens - Arda would be great, but you can't blame him he decides he'd have better chances elsewhere.

I can see this coming a mile off ed. We will lose suarez to another club because we fail to tie up deals quickly and then open the door for a potential bidding war. Ajax will sell and we are interested so why is it taking so long. . its as if we are looking for an excuse not to buy him. I know we have 10 days left in the window, but what about the games that we play in January. . don't they count? {ed's note - what about him going elsewhere because we don't want him? I'd just like to start by saying great site ed, on every day for the last 3 transfer windows. This is my 1st post and was wondering if anyone knew why kun aguaro was'nt in the athletico squad for monday nites match, something in this or just an injury? I'd love to see him up front with torres as i have watched a lot of him over the last few years and think he would be a better signing than suarez who equally is a good player and would do well but aguaro has the pace, strength and skil to do better in the prem, if we get suarez i won't complain as we need a partner for torres who can lift the burdon of scoring goals and his record in holland suggests he can do this but i think again its down to money as aguaro would cost at least 10m more

Does anyone know why Aguaro wasnt in the squad last game, is he injured or suspended. .

{Editor's Note: He was injured - and pondering a move to Chelsea or Real Madrid.}

As for a striker, I have no idea, as far as I could find out Negredo was a Roy target, but I don't have a clue if Kenny wants him too. My guess would be Toivonen, as he was another player that Kenny had pushed for in the past.}

How do we all know that Kenny has been pushing for Turan for a while? Who did he he actually say this to? I think Kenny keeps his cards close to his chest.
This is a classic example of someone starting a rumour and now everyone believes it to be true.
I've asked this before but has anyone on this site actually seen Turan play? No? Well why do you all want us to sign him?

Do you recall who it was that 1st broke the Babel to Hoffeneim? As I recall there was 1 post I think 2 days ago with 2 or 3 palyer rumours and was the 1st I heard about Babel to Hoffenheim when everyone was still talking about Ajax?

I am curious which were the posters other rumours as there might be truth in them as well? I did have a look back & can't find it.

Cheers; Dazzler {ed's note - I don't remember that one at all, sorry, it probably wasn't me who edited that one, but I will ask if any of the other editors remembers.}

Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo has emerged as a back-up option for Liverpool if their move for £20 million-rated Luis Suarez fails to materialise, according to The Times.

The Reds are in the hunt for a new striker this January, with David Ngog and Dirk Kuyt their only first-team options to partner Fernando Torres in attack.

Ajax's high valuation for Suarez has forced the club to consider other avenues, and Negredo's form for Sevilla this season has led to director of football strategy Damien Comolli making a firm enquiry about his availability.

Kenny Dalglish and Comolli are said to have now switched their attentions to the Spaniard as his transfer fee would be more realistic for the club's finances. Goal.com

Not a bad option!

I'd just like to start by saying great site ed, on every day for the last 3 transfer windows. This is my 1st post and was wondering if anyone knew why kun aguaro was'nt in the athletico squad for monday nites match, something in this or just an injury? I'd love to see him up front with torres as i have watched a lot of him over the last few years and think he would be a better signing than suarez who equally is a good player and would do well but aguaro has the pace, strength and skil to do better in the prem, if we get suarez i won't complain as we need a partner for torres who can lift the burdon of scoring goals and his record in holland suggests he can do this but i think again its down to money as aguaro would cost at least 10m more.

Who can you see coming in then ed?

Aron {ed's note - I don't know, unfortunately I wasn't a fly on the wall at the meetings between Kenny and the owners. But my expectations would be that Arda Turan and Ola Toivonen are the most likely signings because they are players Kenny favours.}

A left winger will no longer be signed in the transfer window. Instead, having impressed all year, the young suso will be brought into the squad and will make his debut against wolves. A striker will be signed today! Watch this space.

Babel has been allowed to leave as Liverpool are in final stage negotiations with at least 2 other forwards (Suarez, Lukaku and possibly Nagredo). The club would prefer a permanent deal for Babel or to have him included as part of deal for Suarez but Ajax want cash.

I think its a clear indication we have got a signing in the bag with Babel leaving. My guess would be Honda has already been agreed and will sign at end of Jan. All very quite on the Honda front. No one else being linked with him at the moment and I believe he will sign when Japan are out of the Asia Cup. We will also sign Warnock and a striker. Hopefully Toinavon or Suarez. Your thoughts Ed

What do you think Ed, is a signing imenant and do you think Honda will sign.

We will not buy all the players we think we are lonked with, it doesn't make business sense. I don't believe we will make any major signing now as our manager is not signed on a perm basis. if we get a new manager in the summer he will ant he own choice of player not someone else's. We will get player like Warnock on loan and will play Glen J as a right wing with Keely behind him. Maybe a loan deal for a striker too.

Hope I'm wrong though, we need a huge shuffle to our squad

=======================================

I am not a friend of KK's pool guys brothers, mothers, uncle's boyfriend and have no solid rumours but like everyone knows we have to sign a striker espec now after loosing Babel as well as a real out and out winger with a great delivery into the box.

But the 1 thing not many peopel have said & I think its the biggest difference this season is that we miss a Monster in Def Mid to support the back 4, we seem so vulnerable at the back and conceeding way to many simple mistakes and I reckon we need some1 to kill moves before the even start like Mach or even Sissoko did! !

Reckon we will be doing well to get Turan, Suarez/ Toivaninen and a Quality Def Mid! don't think we need LB because we have Wilson who needs to be given a go and Johnson shown he canplay there and do well & kelly is pure class at RB

Plz post on main rumours page only page I use.

I agree what your saying about needing a Monster in Def Mid some one to break down attacks and isn't frightened to get stuck in and win the ball back!
I personally think that the ideal player for Liverpool would be:
Miguel Veloso
Sulley Muntari (who is transfer listed)
Freddy Guarín
Felipe Melo

And then as for a striker and wingers well im hearing a lot of rumors about:
Luis Suarez
Romelu Lukaku
Ashley Young
Stewart Downing

Can you shed any light about these rumors ed? And what do you think about my DM choices?

Aron

{editor: I would choose Muntari as he has premier league experience but I don't think that we need anymore CMs. The rumours are just that, rumours.}

Ed, Liverpool aint gonna sign no marque signings any time some. Henry looks at Arsenal and admires the way they do business. . but Arsenal don't ever splash the cash on transfers.

It has taken years to get were they are now and millions of pounds too.But its more the AW than Arsenal way not to spend.AW has had nearly 15 years in the hot seat to rebuild a team that was not to shabby in the first place.In fact 15 years pre AW arsenal picked up 6 cups only 1 less than AW team of today which is now going into a 6 year barron spell without silver.Add to that CITY SPURS CHELSEA even teams like SUNDERLAND have and will continue to spend big.Arsenal maybe a top 4 club now but if they carry on not spending its only time before thay slip out.
INSHORT
NESV need to invest in the team and ground

Dutch media reckon we made 15m euro bid for Suarez and not Ajax are playing the hardball to see how far they can push Liverpool. Word is the player is up for it, but Ajax will not settle for less than 20 mil euro's. They were interested in Babel, as was he interested in returning - but if we sell him to hoffenhiem for 7.5 then we could afford to up to 20 mill?

See papers also reckon we'll turn our attentions to Lukaku - he ain't going to move until the summer, and Chelski is his supposed preference. He is still at school on Belgium, is 17, and wants to finish his diploma which is a big thing here. If you don't get that you're seen as a bit of a dumbass regardless of what you do - silly but that would probably factor into his reasoning.

Suarez deal is off, Ajax were asking for 24.5m so expect a shock move for Andy carrol for 18 m plus ngog and cole on loan. Kk likes his work rate and thinks him and Torres can work plus he is English. Also downing is a smoke screen for Adam Johnson 15m. Also Leighton baines will be the new left back 10m. Ed do you think these will be good signings?

{editor: They would be, if they happened. I would prefer Llorente to Any Carrol, there is less baggage with Llorente.}

Liverpool will sell babel to hoffhiem but babel said he would rather join ajax in a swap deal worth 18 million plus 2 million in add ons

We need to sell to buy, not to raise money for players, but to clear the wage bill. Which is to high for us at the moment, so expect a few more fringe players on high wages to leave.
Don't know any gossip of players coming in, but there is still plenty of time left in the window.
I would be surprised if we did'nt make 1 or 2 additions.

While very frustrating at times, i do like the way we are handling things at the minute, while the rumours are flying round, no one from our club comes out and quashes them. watching darren bent's press conference last night houllier catergorically denied that downing and young will be leaving villa and no approach has been made for them. but the rumours are still flying round. we have shown in the past that we keep transfers under wraps. that is exactly what we are doing now. i have no doubts we are in talks with transfer targets, but i doubt anyone knows who they are. we love smokescreens

Spurs becoma latest team to try sign Suarez. Now spurs looking forward to offload Crouch and get Suarez. Spur prefered not to let him sign for Liverpool or else next year they might miss out top for chance. And Pool will back top 4 ranking. Redknapp claim Suarez is another Tevez and cannot miss him out but its depends how much Ajax asking price.

Agbonlahor - perfect target man for Torres
Albrighton - good right winger
jarvis- quality left winger

these British players will add bite, width and quality!

unbelieve - you would prefer Honda, Suarez, Turan

{editor: If they had to be british? Adam Johnson, Matt Jarvis and I am not sure about a striker.}

Haters in the building, Liverpool are in discussion with Suarez the only way we will not get him is if our offer is not accepted or if he can't agree personal terms. I am 100% sure of this. Other players linked were Young and Downey but Houllier said they are not for sale. I can only imagine that we need wingers and a striker and a defender but buying attack will be more enforced. That's all I know.

19 Jan 2011 03:45:24
I'd love for Arda to play for Liverpool. However here are my reasons why I think this won't happen at this point in time.

- Gala have just played their last game at Ali Sami Yen and are moving to their brand spanker 50,000+ stadium.

- Gala are at their lowest point in a very long time. 8th on the ladder and way behind leaders. Letting their captain and most prized asset leave will be like Liverpool letting Gerard leave now.

- There has been no word mentioned from Turkey in any way shape or form they are looking to letting Arda go, or Liverpool lining up a move for him. The Turkish media are extreme when it comes to speculation about Transfers and there has been no mention of this at all. Gala are rebuilding their team at the moment, letting him leave would be catastrophic for team morale, fans, administration.

- Gheorghe Hagi was appointed manager midway through first half of season after Rijkaard left. Arda was a junior coming up through ranks at the time Hagi was dominating at Gala and has much respect for him. Any resemblances of King Kenny coming back to Anfield anyone?

Maybe end of season?

Ed, do you think the lack of transfer activity so far may be due to the owners reluctance to give Kenny money as they do not see him as a long term option?

I personally would love Kenny to get the job full-time as he has a proven record, loves the club and is the perfect man to take Liverpool forward. {ed's note - no, I think it was more a case of not having anyone in place to make the decisions, hence John Henry coming over for a few days to sign off those decisions.}

so what in your opinion can you see happening this transfer window & who do you think we could possibly get in for the wing's & a striker? esecially now villa have said both young & downing won't be sold & babel already looking likely to be gone & the whole suarez thing up in the air?

lfcscott {ed's note - I think we will move for Turan, I would be shocked if we didn't as we all know Kenny has been pushing for the club to sign him for a while. As for a striker, I have no idea, as far as I could find out Negredo was a Roy target, but I don't have a clue if Kenny wants him too. My guess would be Toivonen, as he was another player that Kenny had pushed for in the past.}

thanks for that ed! do you also think some fans could be worrying for nothing just because we havent signed anyone yet?because in all honesty for example i wouldn't of guessed villa were gonna pay that sort of money for bent! {ed's note - people are getting desperate for nothing, the club was in turmoil and it needed to sort out the manager before even considering moving for players. Without a CEO it makes it difficult to act quickly and decisively as well.}

I do not have any concrete evidence on any points that I'm making but will people please hear me out. . NESV said that when they are going to sign a player they do not want a huge media circus surrounding, unfortunately I feel this may rule Suarez out (I really hope not) has anyone else noticed how quiet Honda has been this transfer market, I know he's at the Asia cup but tournaments normally fuel speculation if anything. I also fell that Kenny felt so strongly about Turan to suggest him to both former managers, I don't think he will have just dropped this when he became manager, who knows, he could be Babel's replacement? I personally think there may only be one more signing at most if we do sign these two, hopefully a left back. What do you think Ed? {ed's note - I hope you are right on Honda, and I feel the same way regarding Turan, I can't see Kenny not making a push for him.}
