we have bid £21.8m for diego costa of athletico madrid

M-H {Ed002's Note - Who would need a work permit of course.}

Believable24 Unbelievable17

Wud he not have already got a european work permit if he's playing in spain?

Jak {Ed002's Note - That is not how the system works, sorry. His passport of convenience does not exclude him either.}

Agree1 Disagree0

I may be wrong, but I think he has dual citizenship in Spain. Has been there for numerous years. {Ed002's Note - He has a passport of convenience which dos not exclude him from the regulations. It still needs approval to be granted.}

Agree2 Disagree0

Would also need a muzzle and a leash by all accounts, but can use Suarez'.
In all seriousness, do we need another nutter?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought he was a Portugese passport holder (therefore no work permit required?)

Any truth in the reports of a deal for Suarez has been completed?
I really hope he goes to Real or Bayern. Our best player but I am sick and tired of him. {Ed002's Note - Not at this time.}

Believable8 Unbelievable36

Ian Ayre has assured fans hell be with us on September 2nd, hasn't he?

Agree2 Disagree2

If we sell him wait for the screams saying "We're just a small club now that can't hang onto world class players!"

Agree1 Disagree0

Is there interest in suarez from bayern? {Ed002's Note - They are aware of the situation and are aware that right now efforts are being made to find other interested clubs by his representatives.}

Agree1 Disagree4

Ian Ayre said Suarez will be with Liverpool for when the season kicks off. Which means nowt seems the transfer window doesn't shut until September 2nd.

Disney!

Agree1 Disagree1

The last day of the transfer window is 2nd of Septermber, Probably Ian should 've said 3rd, or possibly he thinks Suarez will leave on the last day of the window.

Roy

Agree1 Disagree0

I have no confidence in Ian Ayre

We deserved a lot better from him.

Eds fellow reds, jack robbo gone on loan one season Blackpool.

Believable41 Unbelievable6

Guessing it means that the deal for the Benfica LB is completed? {Ed002's Note - The one who needs a work permit?}

Agree1 Disagree0

Melgarejo deal not done but there will definitely be another LB coming in for the 1st team squad anyway. Robbo was always lookin at a season loan this year. Needs to make the most of it to prove himself to BR, although he would still be given time to progress beyond the end of the coming season as he's still only in the 19-20 age group. Fingers crossed for him, hope he makes it.

Costa and Ayew rumors heating up. Hope we get them both. Ayew is exciting

TjRed {Ed002's Note - There is a very good chance Andre Ayew will leave Marseille this summer - and the club have already accepted this. They lined up a replacement, although as no one made an offer for Ayew the planned replacement has since moved on. Inter Milan, Arsenal and Dynamo Kyiv have already declared an interest in the player who might just attract the attention of AC Milan as well. Marseille has already lined up his replacement but no one has put an offer on the table just yet. As of August 1, Liverpool has not spoken with Marseille about the player. Should they wish to, there will be a representative of the club arriving in England tomorrow.}

Believable11 Unbelievable7

Ayew has stated that he has always been a Liverpool fan. Would love to get him. Only thing is he wants to play as a central striker not on the wings.

Ed are you confirming that there representatives coming tomorrow or just saying? {Ed002's Note - Read what I said.}

Have we shown any interest in Luis Gustavo. We need cover in the defensive mid. If we buy him he wouldn't just be a cover, would he. Would love it if we at least try to get him. The guy will definitely improve our squad

Hi Eds, do we have any interest in Simon Kjr from Lille. I seem to remember his name cropping up when he was at Palermo. He's obviously make for a great partnership with Agger. Thank. {Ed001's Note - no, he is not good enough.}

Believable6 Unbelievable16

He just moved to Lille this summer and he is not good enough.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree1

This guy is rubbish. just because he's Danish he and agger would make a great defensive partnership? get a grip. Kjaer has no pace, can't pass, no positional sense, can't head or tackle. How he is a pro is baffling. There is a reason he plays in france. Just not good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wasnt he at wolfsburg last season and literally just transferred to Lille?

Agree0 Disagree0

He's rubbish for Denmark national team, and is rubbish for his club too. And he has just moved to lille this summer, so no no no that would not be possible.

Anything in these Diego costa rumours eds? {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest being shown by Liverpool in Diego Cosa at this time.}

Believable11 Unbelievable16

Getting in the top 4 is not a excuse not to buy good players look at spurs last year Dembele Vertoghen Dempsey this summer Paulinho Soldado they are spending more then Chelsea Manchester United and Arsenal! We should be going for players like that,

hi eds I know its very unlikely but is there any chance of varane from real madrid? {Ed002's Note - None.}

Believable2 Unbelievable41

Lol worst rumour I ever heard, might as well have asked if Messi was a possibility too {Ed001's Note - why have you heard something about us signing him? ;o)

Agree0 Disagree0

That doesn't even count as a rumour, just insane ramblings from someone who has made the same statement every 10 day's since the season ended. C'mon Ed! Just an incey wincey chance of Varane? How about Varane served in an Erik Pamela jus with a side-by-sideserving of Ronaldinho dauphinoise?

l'equipe reporting about andrew ayew signing for us, any truth in this {Ed002's Note - There is a very good chance Andre Ayew will leave Marseille in the summer and the club accept this. Inter Milan, Arsenal and Dynamo Kyiv have already shown varying degrees of interest. Liverpool has not spoken with Marseille - but it would not be out of the question they will.}

Believable17 Unbelievable4

Would be a good signing in my opinion better overall player than Atsu on what I have seen on limited occasions

Agree0 Disagree0

I have just checked on the site absolute nothing about Ayew?

Agree0 Disagree1

Would be a very good purchase at the right price and really give us a further dimension up front, be interesting to see if we even enquire after him. My french friend who comes from and supports Marseille avidly reckons he is quality but there are some question marks over his attitude and off field stuff - this could count against him as Rodgers seems very keen on the right kind of player, model pro, hungry, etc etc.

Palermo has previously shown an interest in the player but I suspect a move there is unlikely. He would like a move to Marseille but is likely priced out of that unless a player could be included in a transaction. There is a thought in my mind that Spurs may consider him else he will stay.}

Soldado has agreed terms with Spurs.They got themselves a great player there.

Believable37 Unbelievable14

I think Soldado was never in our list or at least not the top priority. Age 28 and costing 26m, they don't even want to pay 6m for the age 28 Dempsey.

Agree4 Disagree0

Dont feel down there was never any hope of him coming to us as we don't have the money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool don't have the money? I would say the club is better funded than spurs if you aks me. paying 26 mill for a 28 year old is not good buisness. hell if he has a few good seasons scoring 20 goals a season then happy days but the fact is if they don't get champions league the 26m for a player that will not have any sell on value could be costly. utd can afford rvp as the fact there is no sell on there for the player is not relevant as there in the champions league year in year out not to mention there a rich football club.Liverpool will not pay that money for a 28 year old and I agree with that policy 100%

Agree5 Disagree1

I agree with the last reply. If it were my team I would not buy a player over 26 from abroad without PL experience. 27 if they're PL tested. Ideally all our transfer ins would be 25 and younger unless they are on a free.

Agree2 Disagree1

3rd post is spot on and I agree 100% with the sentiments, we are not in the position to pay 26million (which, although Soldado is good, over values him some what) on a 28 year old. The owners are being very smart - I understand why fans are feeling like the owners aren't backing the manager or paying any money but I think that a club in our current position needs to be shrewd with who they buy and what they pay, not negligent and reckless. There is still plenty of time left in the transfer window, hopefully more opportunities for us to strengthen the team, time will tell.

Agree4 Disagree0

28 is peak of carrer. Van Persie? Ronaldo? Fernandinho?

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with the last ad 3rd post. BUT.if we keep on waiting just how long will it take for us to reach the Champions League? We cannot afford to be without Champions League football.that's a FACT! Both for footballing and financial reasons and so as much as I agree that spending £25mil+ on a 28 yr old isn't good business for the future but if he scores you enough goals to win key games, push us forward and help us once again become Champions isn't that worth the investment? We say that our owners haven't got enough money and full respect to them because they helped us in our hour of desperate need. BUT before they came in and brought us surely they would have realised that Liverpool as much as it needs new direction on how the club is being run. ultimately need to put there hand in their pocket and sanction BIG money deals when required.BR said we were going to make a marquee signing.but again I can't see this happening as days tick by and the big kick off approaches.
Not being negative. far from it. but when you keep hearing we need to invest for future and our owners haven't got as much as the other (and it hurts me to say it). big boys, then you do wonder when we will truly reach the big time again.
Apologies to anyone who thinks I may not have a point, not arguing just chucking in my few pence for what it's worth, after all we're one big family and so would never offend another RED!

YNWA!
DalBoy

Agree1 Disagree0

They have although the price is steep for a 28 year old

Agree0 Disagree0

Can I just say as a spurs supporter I am over the moon I do recall this page having many comments WANTING soldado as I am sure the eds would confirm. In fact you accused spurs of using your scouts when we showed an interest in him, funny how things change in a few days/weeks

dave

Agree1 Disagree0

Peak off career is correct hence why it could be a risk. hence why there is no sell on value for a player at there peak. it could hurt spurs if it don't work out with no champions league football. that was what I was saying with rvp manchester utd can afford the risk. I don't think spurs have spent well there. just my opinion. the reason why lfc are buying young talent is for a sell on fee if the player wants to leave at a later date. its why I am baffled about papa he should off been brought by now and the same rule applies for eriksen. these guys need to be brought in. very young and very strong players there value can only inflate. and NOT DEFLATE football is a buisness after all.

Agree1 Disagree0

Quality costs i'm afraid

Agree0 Disagree0

To dave. the opinions on certain lfc fans is we need to spend. the fact is from a huge lfc fan spending 25mil on a player at the peak off his footballing career is poor buisness sense when you can't garentee champions league football. its a huge risk in itself as from what we see suarez and bale for example. champions league is key. now if spurs fail again and again. soldado will turn his head, problem with this is the guy will lose half his value atleast. now take in the wage bill for that player and the price paid it will sting a club like spurs. hence why lfc have learnt the hard way with certain players. I am a happy lfc fan as I was worried we would be in for this player. judging by the fact city and chelsea had no interest in the player it proves he isn't held on high regard. but he is a decent player. but why was there not so much interest for the player? it is because its a risk the lad has never played in the epl he is 28 years off age with no sell on value. its as simple as that.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really don't think he was the type of player Liverpool needed to replace Suarez. He's a good striker but not what Liverpool needs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not often I agree with a Spurs fan but----
CR

Agree0 Disagree1

Let me get this right you buy young talent with a view to a sell on price doesn't that a, lack ambition and b, make you selling club just a thought. where-as someone like soldado may have fired you to fourth spot and from there on who needs a sell on price

dave

Agree0 Disagree0

Dave, you may have been right about some or many Liverpool supporters clamoring for Soldado, but at the end of the day 80k per week and 26million is a bit daft for a 28 year old who will only have 2-4 seasons at the top left.

The scout thing is pretty funny though, Tottenham have tried to sign or shown an interest in just about everyone we have. Whether it's because we're competing for the same level of player or not is another story, but the way it goes, we seem to get linked with someone half decent, then spurs get linked with him a week later. But a link is just a link, it's not a fact like most people think.

Agree0 Disagree0

I suppose once bitten and wice shy because we are talking about the club that paid 35 MILLION POUNDS for carrol I ask who would you prefer at their respective transfer fees not to mention the 20 MILLION a peice for downing (snigger) and henderson (improving but not worth anything like that) . on the scouting front I have to say I actually come to your page to see who we will be interested in and levy is tight enough to use other scouts. your scouts of late must have been working overtime because some of the players you have bought or have been linked with (lately) have seemed very very good either your scouts have a new remit or they have been changed. Any way good look with the suarez situation and I hope we have a good competative season

dave I leave in peace

Agree0 Disagree0

To dave again. I agree with the last post I think nesc has learnt a lot. 20m for downing and may I add 35m for carol and not to mention henderson at 20m may I add I rate henderson. he will come good.

this is why the new approach has been set. it is what I have been saying with regards to making sure we buy good players and not lose money for them players ie. sell on fee's we have to be realistic does commitment mean anything in football these days? so we as a club need to think for the future and that is these money grabbing players wan't to leave then they leave but on our terms and also for a good price.

with regards to targets. I can only assume the owners no off the mistakes damion camolli made and have learnt from that so with the scouting network they have been inforced to pic the right players with potential and with a sell on criteria for if the player decides lfc is not for them. so I just think there inforced to be more sensible for the sake off our club hence why rodgers quoted in saying the players have to be right and we will not spend just for the sake off it. once again soldado did not fit this criteria.

Agree0 Disagree0

The price will only matter in time. If he bangs 20 in good deal. 10 bad deal!

Same every time!

Agree0 Disagree0

And as a reply in all honstey when do you expect to get your just rewards. as for us we just needed a striker and a proven one, potentail was never going t be enough for our team as we have waited for three windows to get one so he had to be an established international and playing for spain qualifies him in my books he is what we need right now. as for potential like you I hope we have bags of it with siggs holtby fryers townsend rose walker sandro etc I would like bale to stay but I think he will go and I think we maybe spending his transfer fee before announcing it so we can keep prices down. I will leave on the note that I think we maybe a season or two ahead of you with a young potential ifra-structure already in place hence we needed the finished article which we now have I see you building a framework of young players but may just need a little time. this is because we don't have sugar daddies and in truth punch at the same weight. hence the rivalry I guess. much love and have a good season teams like ours deserve it

dave

Hi Eds

Quick question. With Madrid offering Morata as part of the Bale deal, doesn't this leave them with Benzema, Ronaldo, and one young unproven striker as they attacking options? isn't they any chance that now would be the time for them to go for Suarez? {Ed002's Note - Of course.}

Believable24 Unbelievable6

You forgot to count the fact they'd then have Bale and 85 mil quid less. So enough attackers and surely not enough money for them to go for anyone at 40 mil?

Agree0 Disagree0

You're forgetting the player they are signing and also di maria, who although while available is still available to fill one of the wing forward slots opposite Ronny. Their attack would be benzema, Ronny, bale, with jese and d maria as back up, though I rather suspect that jese will leave on loan

Nevada

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale, Di Maria, Jese, Ozil + Modric (No10 role) Attack seems fine.

Hello ed's hope all is well!
I'm aware boateng has had issues at Milan this past year, is he looking likely to move? In my opinion he could be a great signing for the CAM role we are seeking. But also he can tackle and I think he could be a potential replacement for Gezza if he were to be signed (probably very unlikely I'd guess!).

Also, seen reports that juventus are too striker heavy in their squad and they're looking to get rid of someone if not more than one. Is giovinco likely to move? Think he'd replace Suarez nicely and not cost a huge amount.
Cheers mate {Ed002's Note - Kevin Prince-Boateng is available but there seems to be little or no interest at this time. Milan have has no offers for him at the €15M they desire. The money was to be used to bring in Eriksen. He could well stay. Giovinco has an agent who is talking up interest from three Serie A clubs and a club from England (not Liverpool). Right now nothing is happening.}

Believable4 Unbelievable14

Would love to see boateng playing for Liverpool! great player. wouldn't mind his brother too!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is there no interest in him? He always looks quality every time I see him play {Ed002's Note - There was interest from Monaco but that appears to have gone.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Getting a bit worried now. It looks like united are going to get Fabregas & Baines, and if Real get Bale then united will get Ronaldo back. We would be miles behind United, City & Chelsea and 4rth place our only hope. Kopite Kenny {Ed002's Note - I would not be so sure about Ronaldo just yet. It will become much clearer what is happening with him in the coming days.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the info mate, I'm aware both are probably unlikely but just thought I'd check if they were available this summer as I expected as much!

Agree0 Disagree0

Didnt Moriniho say the he was more interested in his haircut than playing football, that why he was not interested in him?
I think that is why there is little interest in a talented footballer.
He has lost it

Not pretending to be ITK but a guy I know who visits Melwood regularly and always seems to get players attending charity events etc has claimed Suarez has agreed to stay 1 more season in the hope we get CL. If we fail the club has agreed to let him go for 40m. Not sure about it myself would just like some thoughts from fellow reds. Thanks.

Believable65 Unbelievable50

40 Mill next year? bad business when we've touted him around for 55 Mill this year.

Agree0 Disagree2

As Gerrard say's it would be great for LFC if Suarez stay's for one more year and we get the two big signings we need! My money's on Papa and Eriksen.

Agree5 Disagree0

Get rid, way he's acted he does not deserve to wear the red of LFC!

Agree6 Disagree0

I'm on the fence if this is true. Was quite down about the whole situation what with us all backing Suarez through his past incidents. It would be great to have him for another season (incident free of course) we need his goals, although Sturridge will score a fair few. But it won't be the same after what Suarez said and how he and his agent have gone about things this summer.

If LFC have agreed with this '40m sell on if we don't have CL football' -wouldn't he have to sign new contract?

Agree5 Disagree0

God I hope you are wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2013 10:02:09
I had heard something similar. Saying that they would offer him a new contract same as his current although there would be a full release clause should Liverpool not attain Champions League. This would be difficult in my opinion hecause what if we finished 4th? We wouldn't certainly be in the Champions League proper, especially with some of the teams you can face in qualifiers these days.
Id personally hold him to his current contract and let him go next year anyway. His worth will not decrease much as his contract goes from 3 years to 2. Next season is going to be decision time.

Anfield Andy {Ed002's Note - I would be suprised if Liverpool were to offer a new contract with such provisions - and the significant wage increase that would go with it - after everything that has gone on this summer. He clearly wants out as evidenced by his agent contacting other clubs again to try and get more interest in him.}

Agree2 Disagree0

This might not be bad news and, for a change, I actually agree with all posts so far. I agree that he doesn't deserve to wear the LFC shirt given his conduct and I agree that £55M now is better than £40M next season.
But. nobody has offered £55M now so we are likely to be "stuck" with him. If "stuck" with him, we might as well have him motivated.
Sean

Agree0 Disagree0

What goes on off the pitch, stays off the pitch as far as I am concerned. If he gives his all when he puts a Liverpool shirt on, then I hope every Liverpool fan gets behind him!

The last thing we need is a rift between players/managers and fans. We all know how Chelsea did with Rafa last year, yet the Chelsea fans are the ones that looked the fool come the end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree2

I would also like to see him go. But without CL it is very difficult for us to attract world class players who can lead us to the top 4. Hence, it may make some sense to keep him for one more year. Although we will miss his services in the first 7 games which may prove crucial.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pure crap why would Liverpool agree to that when they don't have to?there is no clause in his current contract that Liverpool have to sell him .hopefully they hold onto him this season get champions league football then have a look at it .they are not about to throw away 15 million cop on .

Agree0 Disagree0

Taking the contract and price out of the equation. you can't disagree In my opinion that he is almost irreplaceable in our current circumstances. Even if he went who could you possibly sign with his credentials that would be available. In my opinion, no one!

Agree0 Disagree0

The one plus factor about us not having European football this season has always been that Saurez is not cup tied. I think that it makes sense for both him and the club that he stays at least until January, when if we want to sell he may be even more in demand with some Champions league clubs. But who knows, perhaps we will be doing well enough to encourage him to stay and try for Champions league football with Liverpool next season. I don't think he wants to leave Liverpool Football Club - I think that he wants Champions league football (as they all do), which is something quite different as it's something that we cannot offer at the moment. If we had CL football would he want to leave? No. If he stays I'm sure that he will not do a Torres - he has always given 100%. If he goes he goes, and life goes on without him, but personally I would love to see him stay. He may be a liability in so many ways, but he is a great player.
