Ed's do you think FSG are looking to sell LFC anytime soon, or are they here for the long run?
Please post

{Ed001's Note - I expect them to be here for the long run.}

What are you smoking?

why would we want them to sell they r moving the club in the right direction, to anyone wishing for them to sell up be careful what you wish for as imo these owners r very good at running a sports buisness and know how to be successful and in a business such as football there is going to be ups and downs and us as fans have to support imo the owners right down to the cashier in the in the shop all pulling in the same direction helps and that's what I see in r club at the min, I loved the other day the media for me were trying to make this story of how brendan was mad with the owners about transfers and brendan said how great they were and how much was going on behind the scene to make things happen in the way off transfers in, Ian ayre is getting some stick to but let's just hold back a bit on this as none of us really know what goes on in these negotiations, as far as I have read ian done his job yesterday everyone had agreed a deal was in place and the last detail the boss man would not sign off on it.

I only ask because they seem to be doing all the right things to make us attractive.
1) Low wage bill
2) Over achieving for level of investment
3) High revenue
They have showed minimal if any faith in Brendan, with this stupid transfer committee and inability to complete "expensive" deals. They have invested on average £15m a transfer window. is this enough investment for a top 4 challenge?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Which club are you talking about?}

The 'transfer committee' is a direct result of Comolli/Dalglish running amok. The result of their profligacy is that the owners are hesitant and it will probably be a few years yet before they regain confidence.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2014 16:15:49
I am talking about Liverpool. on a Liverpool rumours site. :S

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - IT doesn't seem like it.}

Our wage bill is north of 100M. How is that low?

Overachieving? 5th highest turnover, 5th highest wage bill, spent over 100M on transfers since BR came in, yet finished 7th last season. How is that overachieving?

High revenue is I suppose somewhat true, but high degree of profitability is miles off the truth, I'm afraid.

For me, people just need to have realistic expectations. We should be, by wage bill, revenue, etc. about 5th which is about where we are. I'd say things are looking decent considering.

Agree0 Disagree1

I disagree, ill give them 5 years max then sell up.
Only time will tell though I guess.

Hello eds, with the amount of effort put into signing konolyanka do you think it's possible for Liverpool to reach an agreement for a summer transfer now. Or is it more likely they will wait now till the summer before going for any transfer target. Also with the way the transfer windows have gone do you see FSG making any changes to the way they go about the transfer dealings, maybe get someone in for that role specially

Believable3 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - if the owner is unwilling to sell now, in their close season, why would he be willing to sell midseason? And no, I doubt they will make drastic changes.}

But surely Ed with Kono only having a year left to run on his contract, the owner will be aware that if he doesn't cash in soon he may end up getting nothing? Isn't it in his interests to tie him down to a new contract, which I think is unlikely because Kono will want to play in a better league, or sell him at a good price?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He has more than a year left on his contract and will be offered a new one. If he becomes available there will be plenty of interest.}

"There will be plenty of interest if he becomes available" exactly what I figured. that owner was never going to sign off probably why Spurs backed off & nobody else came sniffing around. Question is why was he toying with Ayre, and if he was put up to taking a piss out of is by somebody who hated the Reds. Abramovic perhaps.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Of course not - why would Mr Abramovich "hate" the reds. This is simply embarrassing to read.}

Hey eds. Is Ki from Sunderland going to Dortmund in the summer? Seems a good player.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, as he is a Swansea player on loan at Sunderland, I would suggest he will go back there first.}

Ji from Sunderland (out on loan at the minute) has agreed to join Dortmund in the summer mate.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Feb 2014 17:38:53
No. The Ji you are thinking of is the one at Augsburg. He has signed a precontract at Dortmund.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great player in my opinion! I think we should make him a priority for the summer. Good awareness, strong, great engine (he could give Hendo a run for his money when it coems to energy" and most importantly he's great on the ball. Calm, composed and would fit us perfectly.

Does Rodgers know him from Swansea or did he arrive after BR left?

YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - great? You have a strange idea of great. He has nothing like the energy of Hendo, I am beginning to wonder if you have even watched him play. Though I do agree he is very calm and composed on the ball, there is nothing else about him. There is a good reason he was sent out on loan, he simply isn't that good.}

01 Feb 2014 14:06:14
Edd, do you.know what the situation with Suso is? he's a top player, an extrodinary talent. Is he in brendans.rodgers.plans.next season

Believable30 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - yes, he is very much in the club's plans for the future.}

As I recall, Suso is right-footed and a right sided player. With Sterling and Coutinho ostensibly filling the right and centre attacking mids respectively, how does Suso fit except as a rotational player? Is he, or Sterling, of the ability and class to play on the left, or will this continue to be a challenge until we sign someone adept at this position?

Obviously this past window had us looking specifically at this position, so I wonder if management believes Suso a long-term player for that spot, or if they consider him someone who can rotate through the middle and right. (Perhaps the three mentioned can platoon the centre and right positions?)

Or is Suso's development ripe for a significantly richer sale which will finance a, for instance, Yarmelenko or Kono (should his owner decide he can leave)?

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you sure you've ever watched a game, Colin_Canada? Suso is totally left footed. If you've seen him play you would know that.

Agree2 Disagree0

Thank you for your snarky response Heighway, love when someone is ever so helpful.

And may I reiterate, I'm in CANADA. It's a miracle to see games half the time, so while I did see Suso play once a while back, I'll admit, as he wasn't someone who stood out, that I didn't know he was left-footed.

I'm managing to watch games this year thanks to the back channels of the internet, but I'll thank YOU to be less of an assclown next time you respond. It is possible, you know, that there are real fans who aren't able to watch all the time.

Dissapointing yesterday. But you eds did a great job, I take my hat off to you.
Ive got a question for you, Can you loan a player any time of the year? Or is there a time scale? And do you think Liverpool will sign anyone on loan?
Ive heard you can only sign 2? On loan but West Ham signed 6 yesterday on loan.
Thanks in advance :)
Btw take a long hars rest, I think we all agree you deserve it

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - Prem teams can only take players on loan during the transfer windows. The only exception would be an emergency loan, which would require special approval from the FA. That is usually only given in the case of goalkeepers getting injured.}

01 Feb 2014 10:56:23
Hi eds,

Daily mail reporting spurs will be in for Konoplyanka in the summer. If we do manage to agree a fee with Dnipro, will all our previous agreements with the player still be valid? If not, do you think our determination to sign him in the January window and spurs' reluctance will work in our favour?

Cheers

redviking

Believable7 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - It'll make no difference at all. And I would think if he is available then there will be interest from elsewhere.}

Like psg?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - PSG were told on Thursday he was not for sale. If he is available in the summer there will be plenty of interest.}

I would have thought it would be dependent on us getting into the top 4.
Summer transfers are a different kettle of fish, aren't they?

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Feb 2014 12:21:00
he has already stated a preference for Liverpool over spurs and by the looks of how things r going we have a better chance of cl.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2014 16:58:41
Ed02, why were PSG told he was not for sale and not Liverpool? And if we were told then why did we pursue? And in pursuing we almost signed the player why did PSG not realize this and come back in? It doesn't make sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know what Liverpool were told. But in the end it seems very clear that the player was "not for sale". It was always going to be difficult to persuade the owner to sell. PSG went on to concentrate their efforts in a bid for someone else - and that was rejected.}

01 Feb 2014 01:27:01
Any chance of recalling from loan any one of the following: Borini, Suso or Assaidi?
Please answer if possible, thanks Ed's

Believable5 Unbelievable11

{Ed001's Note - I don't think any can now be recalled, without the agreement of the club loaning them. Which would probably involve a significant compensation payment.}

In my opinion even if we could recall them, we don't actually need to recall any of them, Suso is fine getting his game time at Almeria, he'd not likely get the nod before Coutinho or Henderson through the middle, so leave him finish his season in Spain and come back a more complete player than we sent out on loan.

Borini is getting some decent time (at last) for Sunderland and Assaidi is still the man of mystery to Liverpool fans on loan at Stoke, getting games and scoring a few important goals.

Suso has got 21 games a couple of goals and 7 assists, this is a great education for him and it's good news for us that he'll finish the season and come back much stronger mentally and physically.

Borini has featured in 23 games for Sunderland scoring a few goals a long the way, in the League and the Cup for Sunderland, he's been growing into his position and Poyet seems to be motivating him in a very responsive way, as ever since he came out of hospital he's been pretty electric for them.

Ossama Assiadi has played 19 games for Stoke City and score 3 goals in the League and 1 goal in the League Cup. He's got a few years on Suso and Borini, I think with hindsight maybe one or two will rightly or wrongfully feel he should have stayed around especially after missing out on two wingers in the January window, although, I think he'd have grown frustrated with being an impact/substitute player possibly. Ibe and Sterling have done so well over the last year being in the first squad that maybe Rodgers felt those two were better options for the club?

Agree4 Disagree0

100% agree with Ollieston. Borini needs PL games and he's getting them, now he just needs to start scoring more. Suso could be a great player, being on our bench isn't going to help. Assaidi - I thought this lad would be perfect for our bench, you want players who always want to play but sometimes the odd player who is predominantly a sub and happy to fight for their place - he would have suited perfect. He'll never be good enough to command a regular starting role for us, as good as he's playing it won't be enough. If he's not happy to be backup then I'd imagine he'll be sold in the summer.

Hey eds,

Just a quick question. Say if we have met the release clause for kono, and the only reason we did not sign him was because the owner didn't sign the papers does that mean its a breech of Kono's contract with the club and he is no longer bounded by that contract? Also if that is the case, liv can then sign him as a free agent outside the transfer window right?
Great job with the updates guys!

Believable4 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - that would entirely depend on his contract, but it is very unlikely that would be within his contract.}

01 Feb 2014 00:23:29
Ok ed01 before you get some well earned rest where do you think this leaves us in relation to kono? would you think we will go back in the summer? I'd like to think we would seen the lad was keen to sign. Thoughts.
Thanks again for your time and effort been busy as ever!

Believable7 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - I would think there is little point if the owner is set on keeping the lad.}

01 Feb 2014 00:14:52
Ed001, tv are reporting that we met Konoplyanka's buyout clause but their president refused to sign the paperwork. Isn't that illegal on his part?

Believable14 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - only if the release clause applied in this instance and we met all the criteria.}

If it did would this not break his contractual agreement? Therfore making him a free agent?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - What?}

End of the day its not a massive deal we have missed out. We have the best strike force in the prem who have proven they can each fill in when one is out/injured! granted we are stretched in left back and defensive midfield but if stevie puts a shift like he did against verton we are more than fine!

Agree5 Disagree1

I have heard that the deal collapsed because the release figure was met but the payment structure was not. From what I have been told LFC offered £8M now plus £8M in 6 months. This is the reason why their owner had the right to refuse the offer even though the offer matched the release figure.

Agree4 Disagree1

01 Feb 2014 00:10:01
Hey eds,
ssn say that the deal for Kono is off, whereas the BBC say that we have an extra hour because it's an international deal. I doubt that we'll sign him either way but are the BBC correct?
Thanks for all the terrific work you guys have done throughout the transfer window by the way!

Believable8 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - they were both correct, we did have an hour to submit the paperwork but the deal is off.}

01 Feb 2014 00:38:29
Dnipro's owner probably decided a long time ago that he was never going to sanction that deal, just going along with negotiations to accomodate Kono's wishes until he had no other choice but to refuse or sign it an hour before closing time. Very disrespectful to Kono and Liverpool. I hope we learn a valuable lesson not to leave our business to the very end and not to put all our eggs in one (Ukrainian) basket.

Agree2 Disagree1

31 Jan 2014 23:58:55
Ed's tv saying there owner refused to sign paper work & stalled so the transfer window would shut, after we agreed to pay his release clause. isn't that illegal? Surly if we met his buy out clause he's got no choice but to sign it?

Believable5 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the contract. A release clause will only apply if certain conditions are met, it is perfectly possible he has a release clause for Champions League teams only.}

Lets say we did meet those conditions and he still didn't sign. What happens then?

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - then they could possibly be in breach of contract, so the player would need to get a solicitor involved.}

I wouldn't fancy LFC's chances in a Ukrainian court against a Ukrainian billionaire. I'd say this one is well over.

Agree3 Disagree0

01 Feb 2014 13:16:15
Wouldn't suprise me if a certain mr abramovic of chelski phoned up and help block the deal! I know its a bit james bond - KGB! But dinipro were willing and then all of a sudden weren't! Just a big suspcious (spell)! Just hope this doesn't de-rail our season but more galvanised it! I think maybe its time to find a new negotiator and for brendan to release jordan ibe onto the premiership, because I think this kid could be amazing! Anyway my glass is half full, and hopely our transfer kitty for summer is £20-25 million extra!
Thanks

{Ed001's Note - Dnipro were never willing, that was why it took so long. Roman certainly isn't going to waste his time with that kind of thing, he would have just not sold us Sturridge if he was like that. Would have blocked the sale of Mata to Man Utd too. That is just not his way at all.}

31 Jan 2014 23:58:09
BBC Ben smith

"Liverpool had a deal agreed with Yevhen Konoplyanka - the player wanted to come to Liverpool. In the end it didn't happen because the owner of the Ukrainian club refused to sign the relevant paperwork."

ssn saying Dnipro president wouldn't sign the paperwork even though release clause met.enlighten us eds?

Believable9 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - simple, the clubs agreed a deal. The agents agreed their cuts. Palms were greased of officials to make sure there were no objections. Player agrees terms. Then it goes to the owner to sign off on and he refuses. Point blank refuses. I just wish we had taken the time to find out if that was a likely event before sorting out the rest of the deal.}

Forgive my ignorance but if there was a release clause which was met, can a club
Still refuse to let a player leave?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - In respect of whom?}

Would have saved time if we had asked him 1st could have moved on to other targets today now we have zip

Agree0 Disagree0

Dnipro must have known he was likely to do that so why let it go on?
Cant blame Ayre for that one, sounds like we have been well screwed over.

Suppose that's one for the summer now . Of course the player can go court if there's been breach of contract.

Still think we needed a CDM rather than a winger.
