{Ed022's note - Just to let you all know, a profile on Javi Martinez has now been uploaded. He currently plays for Athletic Bilbao and I know Ed001 is extremely fond of him. www.player-profiles.co.uk - thanks all.} {Ed001's Note - now now, don't go spreading rumours, it was just a holiday romance!!!}

Hey Ed's, loving the work you do!

Now Cavani has just scored, can we start with the Cavani to Liverpool rumours? ;) aha just kidding!

What I was wondering however is, has any 'big' club shown an interest in M'baye Niang? I know he is only young, but I've seen him a couple of times and he looks quite a talent. He already gets a few first time opportunities at Caen and I think he could be quite a good player.

Seanstar {Ed002's Note - M'Baye Niang is just 17 years old still with difficulties remaining over his contract. He could not move without a parent or guardian moving with him until he is 18. Perhaps one for the future.}

Thanks for clearing that up Ed, I hope he does become a bit of a talent as I think he looks a good player :)

My friends in Spain are telling me that the buzz on the street is that Torres is going back to Spain to Athletico Bilbao in a straight swap with Javi Martinez going in the opposite direction, Martinez is valued around the 25 million mark by Bilbao.

If my Maths are correct that's massive loss of around 25 million on El niño by the chavs, just goes to show the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Worshipped by the best fans in the world and yet he turned his back on us and went searching for the Dollar and Trophys. And by the sounds of things within 18 months he will be back in Spain playing for a club that will never win anything, how things have changed.....

The wizards sleeve...

Martinez is valued at close to 40millon euros.

Square tomato

Is Torres Basque? Either way, Javi Martinez is valued higher than £25m by Athletic.

Rugby Parker

Torres isn't baque so he can't sign for Bilbao. Nice try though...

MansfieldRed

Bilbao only sign Basque players

Torres will never play for another team in spain than athletic madrid

Guys will yee leave torres alone, we loved him when he scored goals and hated him when he didnt mad to get rid of him for the bad year nd a half we had, so he's not playin well i bet my life ud all love to see him with a red shirt alongside suarez setin him up! fact!

Rubbish post! Martinez is worth around 40 million by bilbao, n why wud they want torres when they have superior strikers like llorente n muniain?
Indian Buzzer

Correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty certain Madrid is not in the Basque region of Spain and Bilbao only sign players from said region so never going to happen.

Eds, if champions league qualification is achieved, are we the top priority of Marko Marin? {Ed002's Note - Arsenal, AC Milan, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Napoli, Juventus and Roma have all shown an interest in Marko Marin in the past. Much will depend on whether or not Liverpool make the Champions League as to whether he is a viable option or not; and the summer is a considerable distance away at present. Perhaps Italy is the most likely destination, and I understand his preferred destination.}

Eds any idea that we will try and get any of these .....
Eden Hazard
Mario Gotze
Stephen El Shaawray
Pablo Piatti
Erik Lamela
Phillipe Coutinho
Christian Eriksen
{Ed002's Note - Most will not be moving to Liverpool. If Liverpool do get Champions League football then Eriksen may just be an option as he is likely to be available. Piatti has only recently moved, Goetze and Hazard are not viable options, Lamela has only recently moved and has third party ownership that will likely negate any move to England in the near future.}

Good solid reply Ed002, I admire your honesty & the way you keep bouncing back despite some people knocking you, over the past few weeks. Keep up the good work.

Hope so, Eriksen is the best of the lot (poor game last week notwithstanding).

Hugh Pugh.

Ed do you think Sami Khedira is a possibility in the summer.His girlfriend his reportedly said that he will soon be playing his football in England.Any chance it being with us Ed?

Woodi Lietoyeh {Ed002's Note - Khedira will like be available in the summer. It is not out of the question he could move to Liverpool but much will depend on (a) what offers he has available; (b) whether Liverpool want another central midfield player or are priorities elsewhere?}

Not trying to be dumb here but could an Ed or poster explain this to me.....
LIVERPOOL are one of the biggest clubs on the planet with a global following but we are constantly reminded we "cant afford this player" or that player or the "wage demands are too great". Yet clubs like A Madrid, Benfica,Porto,Napoli etc can all attract top talent. Yet most clubs havent the global exposure we have. I feel myself attracting the Cavanis Falcoas etc is not realistic but why is it not! Please someone who understands such things explain to me our restrictions. Not looking for a slagging just an honest explanation of were we lay in the transfer pecking order.

Cheers {Ed002's Note - The players of the ilk of Cavani, Aguero etc. are attracted from South America to clubs at a younger age and when they are cheaper. They are often going to clubs where there are no language or cultural barriers, where the food is similar to that which they are used to, and to areas where the weather is perhaps closer to what they know. Financially many clubs cannot easily then afford to buy these players whose wage demands are always high and whose transfer fees are high. The clubs with the money to spend such as Manchester City, PSG, Malaga, Anzhi (and from this summer on Palermo) are therefore in a better position to attract these players. For clubs which also rely on their profile, Real Madrid and Barcelona will always have the advantage. Not having Champions League football costs clubs significantly in terms of finance and significantly in terms of being able to attract players.}

Its simple. We're still being screwed by Yonks. Just sneakier, craftier ones now. OOps, we can't tell the truth can we...!

Have to say a very good post and an equally excellent reply which seems to clear everything up. Thats a problem thats always griped me too.

I think the Ed's reply to this is fairly right. I would most probably accept that we might most likely attract top bracket players if we had Champions League football secured season in and season out, that compared with our financial position and willingness of our owners. However to totally say "we cant afford this player" is just not afford this player or his wage demads is not true. As an example, what could have stopped Radamel Falcao from choosing the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid etc and join Atletico??. Surely if people like Ronaldo are on worth 350k a week, then who is Falcao in terms of wages??. Atletico are a good brand, well within the top 20 but nowhere near the top 10 aka the big boys?? We might be down the pecking order, but it surely doesnt count us out all together. This is just my opinion and mean no disrespect to the Ed's.

How can you say that owners are screwing us, if they really were to screw us, they would already be looking for potential buyers as our reputation is at one of its lowest right now. If they were really going to screw us, then they wouldnt give Kenny 100M to spend( recall how our previous owners werent even willing to give us half of that nevermind the whole). If they were going to screw us then why initiate talks of either renovating Anfield or move to a bigger club by looking out for potential construction partners, a stage our previous owners hadnt even reached in all eternity!!. I think were moving along well with them. My only concern is the footballing side, I think the problem we have had in scoring is related to the Lucas injury. Lucas is somewhat of an Alonso type of player not in that he can pass as well as Alonso but that he assures the attacking midfields of Gerrard, Hendo, Shelvey that he can cover for them when the bomb forward and when they do, they provide an extra threat along with Suarez and very recently of late, Carroll. For me its the Lucas injury that has nullified the attacking midfield potency when he was there.

You dont have to look further than the lack of composure Spearo had against Man Utd to gift Rooney the first, the second of his hands down was a good move by Utd, so the scoreline was 1-1 owing to Suarez's luck with his goal.

Sorry for the long post but i couldnt help it....+)

Doesn't anyone take into account the fact certain players might not want to join Liverpool? Just because the money there is money to buy them and sufficient money for wages, even if the player is for sale, doesn't mean they have to choose us. If you were a prem league player and chelsea wanted to buy you, would you go there? No of course not. If multiple offers are on the table surely it is up to the player to choose which club he joins.

FAO poster above. They DIDNT give us 100m to spend.
They took the money from the future salaries fund. ie sold established players like and replaced them with inferior ones on lower wages.And took THAT money from the fans.
Result = no net spend= sell to buy.
= crap prospects/

Remeber what Henry said "success is directly related to the highness of salaries".
Ooops looks like John is getting forgetful already..!

Not too sure why everyone is against the American owners, they've spent a lot of money getting rid of all the deadwood around the club. You can't just build a club overnight (unless you're citeh!) it's going to take time for us to challenge for the title, right now we are challenging for top four and so far are doing alright. Just need a few more signings, however we're not going to get the big name signings until we achieve it. So we all need to be patient, get behind the team and respect the decisions made.

Its pointless bringing these playes at a young age to england as they will never be groomed into the top players they are now....if Pacheco stayed in Spain or moved to Italy he'd be better off

eds can you see liverpool signing 1 or 2 big players in the summer even without champions league qualification? {Ed002's Note - "Big" is pretty subjective - but I am sure there will be one or two players arriving. Don't get your hopes up of it being Cavani and Sanchez though.}

We already have Carroll. There aren't too many bigger than him. Or do you want Crouch back?

Just get a pacy winger and a good backup striker then we will be good. That's if Carroll starts to "get going".

Lol just read on the BBC gossip that united are ready to bid £15 million for eriksen.

If that was us they'd be saying we were bidding double that.

LAVERS

Regardless, Ajax will laugh in their face for a cent less than 40m, probably.

McSnuggles

, especially when Eriksen has admitted that Spain is his preffered destination. Man Utd might as well bid for a swap for Rooney for Eriksen but still wont get him. Ajax might have learnt a thing or two about business in the england and price Eriksen as highly as 40M as suggested. Me thinks though he will move next january transfer window. I just hope not to spain as most talents from Netherlands dont cut it there, just ask Huntelaar and Afellay...Cheer Ed's.

Here's to hoping that Eriksen is persuaded by his best Denmark mate Daniel Agger. I believe we should take a look at two other danes at Ajax, ones a 17 yr old Attacker who Spam are also looking at and the other is Nicolai Boilsen, would be ideal with Coates in the future(future Agger for me)...

For 15 million, man utd will get nothing more than eriksen's right leg.

eds do u think that liverpool would buy another striker if carroll and suarez stayed? Carroll is starting to play well and he may lose confidence if we brought in another forward. Do you see us going for a young striker for the future e.g zarate, castaignos? {Ed002's Note - There remains a chance for someone such as De Jong to arrive but the drivers are well known - so we have to wait.}

Zarate is 25 or 26 mate

Any chance of liverpool getting Stephen El Shaawray ? {Ed002's Note - {Ed002's Note - I doubt it.}

21 Feb 2012 13:35:32
I have read to day that Napoli are open to offers from English clubs for talented Ezequiel Lavezzi, Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik.

Ed you think we have any chance in bringing anyone of them to Liverpool?
{Ed002's Note - Cavani will be too expensive. I don't see there being interest from Liverpol in Hamsik, but if Suarez were to leave I could see Liverpool possibly being interested in Lavezzi.}

Cavani is madrid bound. And i would love to see suarez and lavezzi together!

Hi EDs
Just wondered with regards scouting players if there is anyone one we had an interest in would selling clubs be more reluctant to sort a deal before the euros incase the players value increases due to good performances?
Also if the EDs or posters could choose one player to sign in the summer who would they go for? {Ed002's Note - Don't expect any purchases before the Euros. However, clubs will certainly have a value in mind for their players and realistically few will be thinking about the difference they could make to the value of players.}

Luuk De Jong could be a prime example of this

Jonesred mate, I see your posting your ideal summer signings every other day,I don't argue that the players are decent(if not currently injured) which says to me your not currently watching them! Honestly though mate I don't see them as all being realistic,and as for this is a squad capable of challenging for the top three,we couldn't possibly know that! Affelly(sorry spelling) will be crocked until end of season,and do you guys not remember the stick Rafa got for signing an injured Aqualani? And then there are no guarantees they will gel. Not having a pop mate,just my opinion,and cannot reply directly cause my blackberry gets all wiggy when I try for some reason! WelshBoyDave

I agree. In 2007/08 season we signed some important players in Torres, Benayoun, Mascherano, Arbeloa, and finished 4th.
The season after (08/09) we signed no-one who made real significance, (Dossena, Keane?!) and that was the year we came 2nd, extremely close to winning the League. It just took a year for the team to gel and gain experience.
I have faith in these players, yes 2 or 3 summer signings would be important, but I feel the talent is already there and just needs more consistency.
RedChris

Hey welsh boy

Just seen your reply. Ok I've took your points on board, but have say I disagree with you.
In regards to the fact I don't watch them play you are wrong I watched Affelay play at PSV many a time.
I wanted us to sign him then when he was going for a nominal fee.

At that time we were crying out for width, but ost ut to Barca.

The other players I mentioned

Canales.
Lavezzi.
Soldado.

I think they are viable options with CL qualification.
I have seen Lavezzi and Soldado many a time. Canales mainly in youth tournaments but did watch him this season for Valencia, util he got injured.

The four players I listed have all been linked with us in the past, they are all still young too.

I do admit I have repeated posts inthe past but that's cos different people visited sight.
Plus I'm bored to death of Suarez handshake storm or Carroll must go posts. Or even Kenny must leave posts.

So I try to turn the conversation back round to transfer talk.

My main aim for the club this season would be the fourth spot, as this is what attracts top players.
Regardless of what people say about the squad gelling I believe we still lack creativity and guaranteed goals.

With above in mind the four players I chose would make us into potentially a top three team.

Anyway Dave who would you choose.

Jonesred
{Ed002's Note - Where would the money come from?}

To Redchris

I see where you are coming from. but could you not look at the fact we bought so much quality the season before, was the main factor in our success?

Jonesred

Ed you tell me how much you think they would cost combined and I can answer that.

For me Lavezzi would command a 20-25 million fee.

Canales 6-10 million.
Soldado 15-25 million (Valencia may sell for less than 25 with their financial problems still).

Affelay 5-10 million.

Totals roughly 46-70 million would you agree with the fees?

Jonesred {Ed002's Note - It would be toward the upper end of that amount - and only because two of these four are carrying significant injuries. Canales is on loan until the end of next season and Valencia have an option to buy - so there seems little or no chance there. I suspect that with Affelay out injured pretty much all of this season it is unlikely that Liverpool would take a chance on him. At about 25M euro or more Soldado would not be cheap with plenty of interest from elsewhere - not least PSG. Lavezzi will perhaps become a possibility if Suarez leaves.}

Any info or any possibilities regarding
Xhaka
Griezmann
Salvio
Ljajic
Musacchio {Ed002's Note - Xhaka has attracted interest from Juventus, Manchester United and Galatasaray but CSKA seem to be pushing very hard for a deal. Athletico Madrid, Valencia, Marseille and Lyon have shown some interest in Griezmann the past and repordedly Barcelona tool a look at one time. Salvio may leave Atletico for a return to Benfica on a permanent basis. Genoa expressed an interest in the player recently. At present I don't know of interest in Ljajic and I doubt he would be for sale by Fiorentina. Again Musacchio would likely not be available and if he were a move to England would be unlikely in my view.}

*atletico Ed002

No, NO, No, No, No,
The yonks will hold down the purse strings and we'll be able to sign just Carp players.
FSG are not interested in LFC winning the premier, look at what we missed in Jan

The same unsigned lad banging on about Yonks again. What exactly did we miss in January?

What exactly did YOU miss in January?

Besides Kenny saying that he's happy with the squad, that is.

Is there still interest in Redmond? And if he moves has he got a know preferred club?

Red Rout {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any lingering interest and have no idea what he would prefer. Again, just a kid and someone who would be a fair distance away from first team opportunities.}

21 Feb 2012 03:06:50
Will matt philips arrive at liverpool ? He is loooking very good. Will our good relationships blackpool help us. What will his price? Eds reply plz {Ed001's Note - there is interest from us, Blackpool would sell to us, but that is as far as it has gone right now.}

Looks like he's got potential, if we can get him cheap i think he'd be a good signing.
