eds, in the previous summer we were linked with a move for various creative midfielders that included the likes of diego and gago, in the end we signed adam, i think it's fair to say he hasn't really settled into the team since he joined so i was just wondering if you knew anything about a move for another creative midfielder in the summer?
YNWA {Ed001's Note - Adam was not signed in preference, we are looking at right wing and striker mostly. We never looked at Diego anyway and Gago is a defensive midfielder, so I have no idea what you are talking about.}

I guess you mean he wasnt 1st choice but you cant honestly expect anyone to believe Adam wasnt preferred to others at all. Even if there were two players above him on our list then he would be preferred to those who followed him besides the whole summer everyone has been banging about us going for Adam and that we would get our man once Blackpool allowed it.

He's talking about how s**te ADAM has been!!

Hey Eds
I know you have answered a question simiilar to this previously but i was wondering, how come Bellamy is still out of the squad for tonights game. Is he injured? ifso do you know how long he will be out for

Cheers Kieran {Ed001's Note - he had a late fitness test and failed it.}

Would love us to make a move for Tello,as discussed earlier today. My main concern is that Barca would surely demand a buy back clause,such as they did with Bojan. My question to Eds is would they be able to do this if a buy out clause is met?

PM {Ed002's Note - The "buy out" clause is perhaps something confusing people and it is not something that can be invoked quite as easily as people think. It is too much aof a what if question to be able to sensibly answer when it is likely he will stay at Barcelona. I know that a loan as part of a deal for Alba may well be discussed with Valencia.}

I really think talk of a move for Tello is silly. He is getting a lot of game time with Barcelona, and although that is due to injuries he is doing rather well. He will either stay or join a mid-table Spanish club on loan to get experience. There is no way he will join Liverpool.

21 Mar 2012 18:56:39
Do you think Robert Lewandowski could be a possible signing? {Ed002's Note - Dortmund's Lewandowski has been watched by Liverpool, Rubin Kazan, Spartak Moscow (who are concerned about losing Welliton) and Lille. I very much suspect Bayern Munich would be top of the list with a cheque in hand should he not agree an extension at Dortmund. At present they have been unable to reach agreement over a new deal.}

Is he any good of a player?
and would he make a decent signing?

21 Mar 2012 18:31:53
Eds - I understand LFC have been in contact with Birmingham for Nathan Redmond. Have you heard bout this and would he be an alternative to Phillips for the wing position? {Ed002's Note - I know nothing of it. Sorry.}

Really really sorry to bother you red men and eds. To put my mind at ease, could somebody please confirm the reason Glen Johnson maybe leaving us in the summer. Cannot be a loss of form as under KD he has excelled. Been one of our most consistent outfield players this season, seems happy, surely well payed, is it a contractual issue. Thanks very much.

Mick

Because he is getting 90k a week to be our main Right back when kelly is clearly a better defender and should rightfully start every game

MJ

Basically, he is on wages that are too high for a fullback that isn't as good in defence as he should be (I remember on of the eds saying he runs around like a headless chicken when he's defending, ed001 i think). Kelly is a lot better at defending than him. Isla was a likely replacement for him until he got injured, although a move may still materialise if he can get back in form by the time summer comes. I can't remember the eds mentioning any other right backs that we might buy. The eds can add anything that I may have missed, or if I said anything wrong.
Cheers

There are a few reasons:
He's on a contract over 90k a week, this is the 2nd highest weekly wage in the club only behind Stevie G. This was agreed when we signed him to match wages offered by Chelsea, back when our wage bill was spiralling out of control, and when Rafa was playing politics with the owners.
He has a clause in his contract that states he MUST be played at RB when fit, so he doesn't lose his England place. This has stopped us trying him in the RW position. He is okay with playing LB if it's needed, but we can't play him there permanently.
We have Kelly who, maybe is not a more complete player, but a much, much better defender. Along with Flanagan, we have 2 good players in that position who deserve chances there. It's felt by many that Kelly should play ahead of Glen, but this can't happen with the contract situation.
And from a business view, Glen's also at an age where he is a real saleable asset. Has a good market value, perhaps between £10-15m, which the money can be used to strengthen other needed areas of the team (wings).
Overall, it's felt now that he doesn't at all justify those wages with his performances. There is some interest from Arsenal, Real Madrid and Malaga, who would pay a good amount for someone who's almost 28 yrs old, and we're likely to bring in someone like Isla who is much more versatile.
RedChris

I like kelly and also like johnson who I think is a better footballer. But can see the sense in selling Johnson,Carroll,Kuyt,Maxi,Cole,Aquilani and buying a Goalscoring centre forward and Midfielder who can weigh in with some goals. My pick would be to buy these 4 players Llorente,Muniain,Phillips,Rhodes then we'd have a really strong team and squad with some room for youngsters coming through.

ed is it true we are monitoring notts counties 2 youth players curtis thompson and jack thomas? {Ed001's Note - sorry I don't know anything about them one way or the other.}

21 Mar 2012 18:00:25
Ed002 is there any interest in rivière from anyone? Cheers

Square tomato {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware. He has only been in Toulouse since last summer and had reportedly been seen as option by Arsenal and Sunderland.}

Thanks buddy

Hi EDS what do you think that the chances are of us losing sterling in the summer or him not signing a pro contract with us are?

Mat lfc {Ed002's Note - I have no feeling for it at all. I would not worry about it just yet.}

He signed a pro contract when he was 17 {Ed002's Note - Until when?}

We could buy gold instead..

I believe he signed a four year contract so that will keep him till he is 21 ...RED INDIAN {Ed002's Note - He cannot do that unytil he is 18. This is my point - there seems to be a lot of hearsay about this lengthy contract that the kid has signed.}

When he signed (last december, on his 17th) If I remember correctly it was a three year deal.

21 Mar 2012 17:23:30
ive read that robben is unsettled at munich. is there a chance at all we could sign him? {Ed002's Note - It is impossible to sensibly answer a question when you say "is there any chance at all".}

Yes or no? {Ed002's Note - Did you read my answer or not?}

Ed002, I remember asking you whether Robben will leave Bayern in the summer when they signed Shaqiri. You told me that you expect him to move to Italy if I remember correct. Is he still moving to Italy, especially since Bayern have come out and said they want Robben to extend his contract. Or is it Ribery who is leaving?

AG {Ed002's Note - I expect Ribery to stay and I still think there is a good chance that Robben will leave if he gets the sort of offer that would suit him. His preference would likely be for a move to Italy this summer. AC Milan have a long term interest in him and Palermo are looking at players of his ilk as part of their extensive rebuilding.}

I can answer for you: no chance at all. Ofcourse nothing is impossible however, his wages would be double Gerrard's and he is injury prone. Hmmmm.

21 Mar 2012 17:17:40
Eljero Elia would be the perfect wide forward in my opinion! Any ideas Eds? {Ed002's Note - Elia looked certain to move to Valencia a year ago with Liverpool and others considering the player too expensive. He decided to stay in Hamburg and then took the option of a move to Juventus over Newcastle - but it has not really worked out and Juve were indeed willing for him to make a move on loan with, I expect, an option to buy. Everton, Hertha Berlin and Newcastle had apparently shown interest and his representatives were looking to place him in a northern European side where he will get a regular start. I am sure he will be available in the summer.}

If he ain't made it at Juve woul he make in the prem?

From the little I know of the lad he's no better than Babel. Also has a bit of an attitude.
ANFIELDPETE

Like the player,if we could get him on loan with option to buy could be worth a shot

Any chance of Younes Belhanda from Montpellier {Ed002's Note - My understanding is that Arsenal would be interested in Belhanda should he become available. Aside from that there is unconfirmed interest from Inter and Roma.}

21 Mar 2012 14:34:16
Ed001. As u suggested that we may not move for Phillips this summer. Do you expect that if any other clubs comes calling for him, would we betrying for him or he isn't very highly rated among our target list. Thanks alot. YNWA {Ed001's Note - I do think we will probably go for him if someone else moved for him, that Blackpool would be willing to sell him to.}

But isnt he on loan so why would we buy a championship player who cant even get in Blackpool team

He was on loan last year, he appears to be fully immersed in the first team now.

Forget Matt Philips is there any buy back clause in Tom Ince? The lad looks the deal sadly we let him go for what ever reason. He has been starting mor games than Philips of late too {Ed002's Note - No there isn't.}

Thanks ED002 for replying {Ed001's Note - Ince is very unlikely to want to return anyway, he thinks far too much of himself.}

Mr Ince advised his boy to learn his trade at a lower level, with a better wage.Time will tell if he becomes a top player. {Ed003's Note -He is progressing very well }

Its not quite the same standard between the premiership and the championship! And his attituse aint nearly good enough
LeeWils

He is an arrogant so and so

21 Mar 2012 16:22:51
hi ed

if matt phillips of blackpool was to join do you think he would go straight into the first team raplacing henderson ?? {Ed002's Note - No. He would become a squad player.}

Whats a squad player

21 Mar 2012 15:39:37
Will Charlie Adam be at anfield next season? I think no
LeeWils

This guy is so slow. Always ruins LFC. Whenever I see his name on the team sheet. I just know we will loose or draw the match. He is the weekest link in Liverpool. His 10million crosses are useless. He cannot run. He cannot pass accurately. Does not want to pass the ball to players with better scoring opportunities. Sum it HE MUST LEAVE LFC.

21 Mar 2012 14:48:12
hey ed, would it be worth taking a chance on ricky lambert? scoring for fun at southampton at the minute. with our goal drought, he could be a 'cheap' but valuable addition to the squad. would you say he could cut it at the top level or is he just a championship player at best? hard to tell if he has never had the chance to play in epl. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea. Sorry.}

21 Mar 2012 14:25:31
So ED002 wrong about Suarez AGAIN!! #SackEd002 {Ed002's Note - So it is the end of the summer transfer window is it? Glifnard.}

It's only Eds opinion, how old are you 12? Don't come on here to moan at the Eds for their opinion.

Who's to ssay Suarez won't leave, just cos he's said he is happy doesn't mean he won't go... Torres?

KT!

Not only that, just because he said he wants to stay doesn't mean FSG want him to stay. You don't screw with FSG; Manny Ramirez didn't think the Red Sox would trade him, but FSG grew tired of his act, and showed him who was in charge.

-Red Socks

Grow up ye little s**t.

davethebutcher

I reckon we should just offer RM Suarez and add 15M and ask for Sergio Canales and Gonzalo Higuain in return...Canales can be Gerrard's replacement and Higuain will be our main scorer....

Eds,
Will Liverpool even spend money on new players in the summer?

With most likely no "CL qualification money" and the Financial Fair Play rules coming in I fear that we won't have lots of money to spend.

Cheers {Ed002's Note - Forget the FFP rules. Liverpool will I am sure make some minor improvements to the squad.}

What do you mean with "minor improvements" eds?
Is it about the money or the quantity of the players which will join? {Ed002's Note - Minor changes will be made to the squad and they will be improvements over what is available now.}

You seem to be forgetting there will be money fron the europa league, not loads i will accept, but also the new warrior deal which is £27 million per year more than we get from addidas, and even ian ayre says that deal will in effect be doubled because its only for kit and training merchandise. all other merchandise money is liverpools and not related to the warrior deal, as was the deal with addidas. so you see the money situation isnt as bad as you think. {Ed002's Note - The Warrior deal is £25M a year - which is about £12M a year more than Adidas. The "doubling" is simply potential at this time. And don't forget that the club is losing money. It is a long way from being good. Or I could lie and tell you evrything is rosy in the garden?}

Sorry eds when I am stubborn...
But does "some minor changes" mean we will buy 2/3 Players which will improve the first 11? {Ed002's Note - Something like that.}

The problem is we need major improvements.
a striker, right midfield,creative mifielder, and possibly a right back and centre back depending on departures.

Great! I'm excited :)
This will be enough to get top 4 next season! {

So eds why do you say 2/3 players which can go straight into the first 11 are just "minor improvements"? {Ed002's Note - I did not say anything of the sort. You said 2/3 players and now you are just putting words in to my mouth. Hopeless.}

3 Quality first team players at centre mid, winger and proper striker plus some youth/reserve players

We dont want heavy investments in the team! Why do so many of you want instant success? A team's success can only be long lasting if we build from the academy. NOT by spending 50m+ every transfer window. Look at barca, how much did messi, xavi, iniesta, busquet, pedro, puyol cost? And if we bought players now what would happen to sterling, suso, morgan in a few years time? I think if we get Gaston Ramirez and Matt Phillips is enough already.

Just had a look on liverpool fc webpage and compared Zamora to Suarez and guess what!?!
Zamora is Statistactly better! Ha! Just a though....
Positive Red

I love how you write how Zamora is statistacally better than Suarez and then sign off as 'Positive Red'!

"When you're sat in row Z
and the Ball hits your head
Thats Zamora...."

Hi eds, except for Matt Philips. is there interest in other wingers like Gaston Ramirez or Junior Hoilett? {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest from Liverpool in Hoilett at this time. Bolton, Spurs, Newcastle, Stoke, Arsenal and possibly Aston Villa and QPR have been interested - plus a couple of clubs from Germany, including Bayern Munich. I understand that Roma may press to have Hoilett sign a pre-contract agreement with them before Easter - which may spark further interest from Germany. The English sides are very much at a disadvantage in the chase for Hoilett now as he is in to the last six months of his contract and he can talk to interested parties from outside of England. Blackburn will offer him a new deal but I doubt he will be interested. Whilst Gaston Ramirez has been watched by Liverpool I remain unsure as to how strong the interest is from the club. A move to Sevilla, Udinese, Palermo or Juventus, who have made a firm offer, is also possible - although unsubstantiated rumours suggest Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea and Real Madrid are also interested. He was available in January for about 15M euro and his agent was looking for a signing on fee for the player as well. There is an outside chance that Inter Milan could also move for Ramirez.}}

21 Mar 2012 09:28:56
hi ed do we have any interest in James Forres of Celtic? Personally I feel he would be a better option on the RW than Matt Philips! Just want to know your opinion

Thanks

AZ {Ed002's Note - Not that I am ware of but heis name does get mentioned occasionally.}

I was at the cup final at the weekend between Celtic and Killie, and save for a few decent runs, he was well marshalled throughout the game by a Killie defence not known for it's reliability! Still think he's a good player, but doubt he'd be near our first team for a wee while yet.

On a related topic, i've stated before that Gary Hooper was nowhere near good enough for the better teams in the premiership, but i've watched him pretty closely recently and also at the cup final, he's a far better player than I thought he was. Excellent movement off the ball, a nightmare to mark, and with a little more experience and composure, I think he could be a shrewd signing for someone... although not at the £37M Neil Lennon quoted as his asking price!

Rugby Parker

Note to 'Rugby Parker' - you said that you watched Hooper at the cup final? He was garbage during the match and has been out of form for the last couple of months - wtf are you talking about?

21 Mar 2012 07:54:06
Hey Ed's, i posted last night about us ideally/possibly signing Huntelaar and Robben, it's pretty evident we need a world class striker and winger, so who do you they could/will be? {Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath for both to arrive.}

When does Raheem Sterlings contract run out? {Ed002's Note - I am not sure but as he is under 18 so it will probably be (a) this summer; (b) his birthday in December; or (c) the anniversary of him joining. Once 18 (used to be 17) he can sign a full pro contract. All Pro contracts end on June 30 (except where the season runs to a different schedule - like Russia).}

I am pretty sure that under terms of his signing - the pro contract is already in place and he will roll into this - at least this is what i think - 3 years i believe - cheers
Jamie

Wasn't it announced before Christmas that Raheem had signed pro contract terms?

Scarface {Ed002's Note - He still counts as a child in terms of the rules - until he is 18.}

He's signed a long term contract with liverpool in jan. He's not going anywhere soon. {Ed002's Note - How long was the contract for? The maximum length of a contract for a player under 18 is three years. As it has to end on June 30 as a professional contract, it would therefore limit the contract to June 30, 2014. This is why other clubs wait until the player is 18.}

Hi edds, just a quick question...
When do clubs usually do business in the summer? when the euros/world cups are on? Do u usually see a lot of signings after the competition has ended? Or befor...

Thanks love the site. {Ed002's Note - There is no "usual" time. It is obviously much more difficult whilst a competition is on (medicals etc.).}
