Tiago Ilori will sign for Olympiakos. Fee in the region of 5m euros.

Really? If so its a decent price for the boy. I hope he can go on be successful with them. He did try hard for us and was given decent chance to show his skills.

So have we made money or broken even from him? If this sale is fact, we signed him for €7m, sell for €5m and inbetween acquired loan fees. I think Villa paid €2m for last seals didn't they? Even cut in half sounds like he has cost us nothing.

Who cares about money. The lad had his career hindered with us let him move on to where he can play and try recover his career. Sick of young players being bought with no long term plan he never got a look in for the first team.

Max Renn, what about agent's fees? Wages that weren't covered by loans? We most certainly have not made money or broke even. Let's not also forget the fact we borderline ruined a young players career.

Chances?

3 games? Absokutely shocking. Even un those few games i thought he showed a lot of promise.

There is a reason he didn't make it and if he were good enough, he'd have played. Did he play at Villla? He just wasn't as good as we were led to believe.

Agree3 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - that is not always true. There have been many players who have been good enough who don't get a chance. Speaking of which, good to see Suso starting for Milan.}

22 Aug 2016 15:40:50
Suso is the one. Remember when Serling and him broke through. Maybe would have been better giving Suso more time than that little s, ;? t.
Suso could be world class. Thank Brendan.

When he had his chance he was overweight and slow.

AR ay come on max lad.

He played against villa and that's it? That's enough chances. Bloody hell.

Really hope the academy players don't read this. They will be devastated.

And he did look unspectacular against villa but still solid, good compusure on the ball and fast. Just needs games and confidence. Something I thought klopp would of gave him.

There's so many posts about how the youngsters should play more. Not all the youngsters are going to make it to be the standard required. Liverpool have probably given more chances to youngsters than most of the other top 10 teams in England. Ilori and suso are 2 of many who had chances to shine in 1st team games and training but unfortunately just aren't good enough. Everyone likes it when an academy player makes it like fowler, Gerrard and carragher but not everyone will.

Agree2 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - so not true, neither had enough chances in the 1st team, certainly not Suso who did shine on those rare chances he got. It takes years of regular football to develop, not 2 or 3 games. You are talking crap. Carragher was the target of the boo boys for years and was seen as a flop by a large number of fans in his early years. It took him years to develop into the mainstay of the backline that he became.}

22 Aug 2016 20:18:31
To be fair it's not like our defence has been leaking goals for the last three years and all our centre backs have been so consistent.

22 Aug 2016 21:36:41
Out of all ilori got the least chances. What was it 2 years to get a start after taking him away from his home, a starting position in a very good team, shipped out on numerous pointless loans.

Then he gets what was it 3/ 4 games, one when he hadn't played for 6 months and was dead on his fit at 60 minutes.

Nowhere near enough and there is noone who can say any different with evidence that he got enough chances.

Shame, but glad he's going somewhere he will play

Btw noone is saying he is our savior, it going to be a world class centre half, just how young he is and how little games he has had. Look at players at Dortmund (ginter), Everton, Tottenham (Kane, diet, Ali), athletico, Southampton. You need to give a young player a real good run, if ilori had of had 10/ 15 games ina row and not shown any signs, it still wouldn't of been enough but at least it would of been much better than this.

22 Aug 2016 21:56:09
well said edd01 suso always looked liked he could be a top player to me. And Ilori could not play any worse than skrtel. I can remember Carragher playing right back and every time he got in to a crossing position passing the ball back. Is that his fault or manager playing him out of position.

Carraghers 2 own goals against United.

The only time I really swore at him :-)

Teixeira didn't get a fair shot either IMO.

{Ed001's Note - defo, if any player looked like he deserved more time it was him.}

Good luck to Ilori, hope he wins the Europa with them.

We have wasted several potential world class youngsters over the last few years. Tiago Ilori, Joao Texeira and Suso by not giving them enough game time to grow.

Agree6 Disagree4

23 Aug 2016 12:34:10
If we gave all the youngsters 2 years to settle in, at least after 2 years they would hopefully be good enough to get us back out of the championship. All these young players Liverpool have not given a chance to in the past have gone on to other clubs and how many have become world beaters?

Agree0 Disagree6

{Ed001's Note - for gods sake this stupid comeback again. That is the most ridiculous way of judging whether a player could have been good enough if they had not had their way blocked in their formative years. The time when they usually make the most progress, but they can't do so when they are not getting first team football.}

23 Aug 2016 16:43:38
Ed1, you are pretty quick to accuse posters of talking rubbish but that is just your opinion. The posters are entitled to their opinions as well. Personally I am pleased to see Suso has improved and is doing o. k. but I do not think he would improve a top 6 EPL team and Teeira showed soe great flashes of form but went missing for long periods Illori? we shall see. I had high hopes for him, quick and skilful but an EPL CB? not so sure. Just my opinion of course :-)

Agree4 Disagree3

23 Aug 2016 16:46:55
Tex, Suso and Illori 3 world class players? Ridiculous.

Agree2 Disagree4

23 Aug 2016 17:31:39
CR I don't think the argument is about their quality but more about the fact we don't give our youngsters time and chances to prove themselves. A game every now and then isn't going to prove anything. They need a good run just the same as any new signing, possibly more so because of their age. You have to accept that there is going to be bad games and inconsistencies because of their age and lack of experience. Talent needs to be developed.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2016 19:09:46
CR - Texeira went missing for long periods? When did he get 'long periods' in which to go missing!? 2 EPL appearances. that's all he got. It may be 'your opinion' but facts still speak for themselves, which makes 'your opinion' a load of old codswallop!

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Teixeira looked a diamond whenever he played.}

24 Aug 2016 00:11:28
I think this is the Coach having all the power vs having director of football and a coach argument. Coaches always look out for themselves and take the safest option, add the premier league spending power, they always choose the buy a safe option instead of being given a team and being told to actually coach, teach and develop talent. You can tell when a coach is over his head, he stops coaching and becomes the manager, tried to outwit everyone, ironically, best managers never stop coaching and teaching. In the end, it's the young players that suffer by sitting on the bench.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Aug 2016 07:45:54
Those players may or may not have been better than we know. Sometimes players simply don't get enough time in the first team.
Look at Villa playing Lescott and Richards over Okore.
De Bruyne or Lukaku not getting time to develop at Chelsea.

Football is about opinions. If we all had the same opinion football and this website wouldn't be what it is. I do agree with some of your point about giving youngsters a chance but with fans, owners wanting immediate success and managers futures riding on a few months performances. In my opinion you'll see less youngsters being given long runs of matches in the first team as the managers job is on the line. I'd like to see the likes of Arnold and brannigan given a run in the team. Maybe it's up to the club's to make changes to the u23 to make it more competitive and worthwhile?

Was interesting to see about Teixeira that in spite of being on loan, in spite of not playing a full season with them the Brighton fans loved the guy. Considering most fans look at a player loaned in from EPL club and think he'd better be seriously special or else he must have been doing something right.

Hey Eds and fellow reds, hope your all well. Just wondered if there was any truth in the rumours we've bid €5m for Martins Indi from Porto. I read that Porto want €7m though. Cheers guys ynwa.

I don't see why we would, for me our strongest cb pairing is yet to get on the pitch in Sakho and Matip, and then there's Gomez behind them.

He also plays LB. Bit like the Belgium CBs at Spurs who play full backs at International level.

Agree2 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - he plays it badly though, even worse than he is at centre back, which takes some doing because he is not a good player.}

22 Aug 2016 10:27:26
Yeah but if I was going to buy a lb I'd want a square peg in a square hole, not a round one. Don't wanna see players shunted out of position anymore. Ed do you feel we are already stocked at cb, without considering the respective strengths/ weaknesses that is?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we have enough numbers. It is the quality we lack.}

LFC will not be signing a LB during this window.

All those disagreeing with the post by jkh1983 is that because you think Liverpool will or you hope the club will. The failure to sign one when there was less rush, more time and options should be a clue that there simply isn't an interest in solving the problem when there are more midfielders out there to be signed.
