Ed001, the reported interest in Javier Manquillo (a RB) might indicate that someone (perhaps QPR?) have stepped up their interest in Johnson do you know if this is the case?

(I know he's available just wondering if you know whether a move is on the horizon?)

Believable32 Unbelievable11

{Ed001's Note - it was on hold until they sorted the Caulker and Rio moves, so it is perfectly possible they will finish the deal quickly now. The main sticking point was wages, but they were holding out a long deal for him, which should be enough to clinch it. If we hadn't qualified for the Champions League, I expect it would already be done. It is in his hands now though.}

Hmmm interesting. I hadn't even considered GJ to depart this summer. I thought he was here for at least one more season. Makes a little sense now. Les see what develops.

Agree2 Disagree1

Didn't see this one coming though, I always preferred Johnson at lb, it was like he had to concentrate more which I think helped his game! do you think this will mean flano as 1st choice rb, I hope so the lad deserves a chance at it, I see wisdom has joined the bags on loan do you see this new lad as his replacement in the squad?

Agree5 Disagree0

I think this is a brilliant move by the club.

Johnson is clearly past his best and whilst he has been great for the club keeping Flanno out of the team to appease him would just be unfair.

After Flanno's performances last year he deserves to be one of the first names on the team sheet.

This new guy (if he comes) will provide a youthful energetic competition to Flanno.

Whilst Wisdom clearly has potential but needs to be playing every week to gain confidence and experience!

If this new guy doesn't work out then either Wisdom will come back a much better player or we can look again next summer.

I am really impressed by the club's dealings this window. Very impressive, and very clever, planning for the future whilst not leaving the squad thin on experience.

Agree3 Disagree0

All over twitter (I know!) but sounds like this is definately possible. Loan move for Micah Richards also on the cards as clubs put off by citahs valuation

Agree1 Disagree2

Thanks a lot Ed001. People always get caught up in who's on their way in and not who's on their way out! Keep up the excellent work.

Agree2 Disagree0

I don't see how this can happen. Why would we be downgrading our defense?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see this as a down grade flanno is by far the better Rb so having Johnson on the bench with his big wages makes no sense and from what I've seen and heard this kid has got a bright future ahead of him

Agree0 Disagree0

It would appear my prayers have finally been granted! I really am not one for slagging off Liverpool players but I really can't stand Glen Johnson! I have been saying for the best part of 3 years that he isn't good enough and it would appear (if this is true) that BR thinks the same.
I used to really like him, we all accepted that he wasn't great at defending but he was brilliant at attacking. But over the last two / two and a half years even that side of his game has deserted him. He has become lazy at defending and lazy in possession, how many times do you see him just aimlessly cross the ball into the box or play a panicked pass straight to the opposition, jog back if we've lost possession rather than bust a gut or sluggishly attempt to close down a cross.
A lot of criticism has been aimed at Skrtel over the years (even last year despite having a brilliant season) and now Agger, but I really do believe they are good enough and that having a RB and LB with better attitudes and work-rates and concentration levels than Johnson and Enrique will greatly improve our solidarity at the back. I like the looks of a back four of Flanno, Skrtel, Agger, Moreno.

Hi Eds. I was just wondering, with the Lovren deal looking less likely everyday are we considering looking elsewhere? E.g. Matts Hümmels? Heard he could be available for £16 million. Would be a great buy in my opinion.
Thanks in advance for any reply.

Believable1 Unbelievable25

{Ed002's Note - Someone is teasing you about Hummels. I am not sure why you see Lovren as less likely.}

That someone is goal.com. They've removed it though. . . unsurprisingly.

Agree1 Disagree0

Lovren deal will go through eventually

Realistically do Liverpool have a chance of signing Isco . are we even interested in him, I can't find anything on the site . what do you expect to happen to isco?

Believable8 Unbelievable15

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation with Isco. But one last time. Liverpool has shown no interest in Isco. AC Milan have but he wants to stay and fight for his place. There was a loan with a Spanish club discussed but that is no longer an option. He was offered to an EPL side as part of an exchange for another player but that did not happen at that time. Manchester City might be interested if a certain player leaves. Now we are done with the subject of Isco.}

Hello edd
I rmb quite some time back you said about moreno being track by spurs or something. And that they will try to get moreno.
Something about the deal is still not dead yet if spurs can't provide the money and that we still have chance for moreno
Mind shining any lights on this?

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Spurs turned their attention elsewhere.}

Ben Davies from Swansea.

Ben Davies from Swansea.

Agree1 Disagree0

Good then it leaves us with a free run on Moreno.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - No.}

22 Jul 2014 14:41:37
Ed002 which teams are interested in Isco?

Believable2 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - He is not looking to move from Real Madrid but he was offered to an EPL side as part of a deal for another player. AC Milan are interested. A loan to Sevilla is off the table now that Krychowiak has signed.}

22 Jul 2014 16:42:58
Ed was that club Chelsea and the player hazard?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - No, but it is unimportant.}

You don't know which BPL side or which player.?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't matter who.}

hi all

eds001 i'm hearing that moreno wants to come to lfc
that the deal is still alive, also if we do sign him that will be our so called marquee signing
i think this window has been a very good window strengthening positions that needed too and make competition for positions, I believe we will have our defense sorted have trust in BR
isco, da maria, will not be Liverpool players

Hi Eds,

If the Javier Manquillo rumours are true (big IF I know), do you expect that to mean that Johnson is on his way out?

Or would we use Flanno and Johnson as occasional left backs and not buy a new LB?

Cheers

Believable21 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - I have said repeatedly we want to move Johnson on.}

22 Jul 2014 16:41:02
Ed1 is it still only QPR that have shown an interest in Johnson and as that gone past an enquiry?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - as far as I know it is only them interested, and yes they held talks.}

22 Jul 2014 13:24:16
According to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid have agreed to send Manquillo on loan to Liverpool for two years, while the deal will also include an option for the English side to purchase the defender on a permanent basis for 6 million euros.

However, Atletico Madrid will also boast the option to buyback Manquillo at any point over the next two years, as long as they are in the Champions League

Seems a complicated deal, but I think I can see the logic.

Last season, we were relying on Johnson to be our attacking force down the right. Now we have Lazar there.

Johnson isn't great defensively and has very high wages. I'm presuming Rodgers is expecting him to go to QPR. This deal means that we'll save money as Manquillo's wages will be less than Johnson's, and we'll have cover for Flanagan if and when needs be whilst Wisdom is on loan.

It means Flanagan has a season to convince the club that we don't need to shell out money on a better RB, and with Wisdom being his cover from next year onwards.

Any whisperings in the corridors of power about Javier Manquillo or is the Metro making stuff up again?

Z

Believable10 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - I can't help, sorry.}

22 Jul 2014 10:24:12
It is the Metro; so naturally, it is stuff being made up.

Agree0 Disagree1

Every dog has his day, AG, and you never know, the Metro might have just accidentally stumbled upon some truth whilst trying to unearth more sensational, gutter fiction.

Agree2 Disagree2

It's not coming just from the Metro these reports have originated in Madrid so you never know.

Agree2 Disagree0

Don't know much about him other than he has made a few appearances for the under 21's. Any info on him?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2014 14:41:20
He's a 20yo RB, born and lived all his life in Madrid and currently contracted to Athletico Madrid until 2018.

He had a full season in Athletico B in 2012/13 with 42 appearances, and since 2012 he's had only 6 first team games.

Sounds like one for the future, and actually, although in a different position, a very similar record to Alberto in that he's had B-team experience but hardly any first team experience.

Would love to hear from someone who has seen him play, but not holding my breath given his limited first team exposure.

I'm sure there'll be something in how he plays that attracts the scouts, if indeed this is a genuine approach by us, but I can't see past the fact that he may stifle the development of good, similarly aged or younger, prospects we have coming through the academy.

Only in my opinion tho, having not seen him play.

Agree1 Disagree1

Ssn have confirmed it, we're in talks with Atletico about taking him on loan

Agree1 Disagree0

Ssn have also described him as a left back, which shows how much research they've done on the story.
