Wijnaldum signed. Good transfer.

Seemed to come out of nowhere this one but I believe he will do well. Gives me a bit more optimism than when Lallana signed.

Agree24 Disagree10

22 Jul 2016 19:19:54
69M for he and Mane, they have allot to prove.
ED's and members do you see Wijnaldum playing #10 centrally or out wide with his speed behind Coutnho-Mane-Firmino?

Agree5 Disagree29

22 Jul 2016 19:22:06
sorry i mean johnnyr1970.

Agree6 Disagree7

22 Jul 2016 19:42:50
You'll probably all bash me but I think it's a poor signing. Hope I'm proved wrong I think we need abit of strength and a leader in CM not someone who can do a job in a number of positions.

Agree13 Disagree30

22 Jul 2016 20:06:46
Yipster, think he will play out wide, probs on the left.

Agree4 Disagree8

22 Jul 2016 20:20:56
Theresonlyone88, i was referring to the amount of negative comment this transfer has drawn across the site over the past week or so - i don't actually have an opinion either way because I haven't really seen him play but it feels like some LFC fans have personally scouted him and deemed him inadequate.

Agree9 Disagree2

22 Jul 2016 21:07:55
Yipster so you don't think we have enough in the centre with hendo, emre can, grujic, stewart, lucas and also ejario coming through.

Agree5 Disagree3

22 Jul 2016 21:16:20
Wobsworth yh we have enough I prefer quality over quantity, I want us to grace Europe, like I said I hope I'm proved wrong and I'll be the first to hold my hands up. Lucas looks set to leave. Grujic is unproven though he looks exciting. Van is brilliant but raw and hendo leaves a lot to be desired. I'd just like an experienced head to sure things up. I want us to grace the champions league, just purchased bt sport lol.

Agree6 Disagree9

22 Jul 2016 21:17:56
There is a feeling with nufc fans that if he doesn't play no 10, he's not effective.
I think klopp has his work cut out to get consistently good performances from this guy playing wide or deeper mf- but if anyone can do it, he can.

22 Jul 2016 21:26:37
Angus, maths not your strong suit?

Agree14 Disagree4

22 Jul 2016 22:31:45
I like him, obviously talented also strong, quick and powerful
Looking forward to seeing him.

Agree5 Disagree6

22 Jul 2016 22:35:50
He won't be playing on the left if Coutinho is still here neither will he play on the right with Mane already there and not no.10 with Firmino there so will the big fans of this signing enlighten me on where he will play as I have no clue.

Agree8 Disagree5

22 Jul 2016 23:09:24
Cincyred, I guess its possible that we are actually buying a good quality player so that we have a good quality bench when the inevitable injuries happen, rather than with a specific starting place in mind?
I do think it will focus some players minds knowing a talented player like wijnaldum is chomping at the bit to take their place if they underperform.

Agree3 Disagree4

22 Jul 2016 23:14:16
There are a few options with Widjnaldum but in essence I think his signing is a direct result of lack of goals from Milner, Joe Allen and Llalana. I'd see him as someone to transition play swiftly to the forwards and score goals through arriving late in the box.

More specifically I suspect he'll be used at
1) left midfield in a 4-3-3 (ie direct Joe Allen replacement)
2) perhaps at no.10 if using Firmino as a false 9 (or resting Firmino)
3) As impact sub for either Mane or Coutinho out wide
4) very selectively at deeper midfield to rest Hendo or Can.

Agree5 Disagree4

23 Jul 2016 00:02:12
A goal scoring midfielder - he'll do well. Don't worry about Wijnaldum.

Agree8 Disagree3

22 Jul 2016 17:10:18
Is Ben chilwell set to sign a new deal at Leicester?

Believable7 Unbelievable7

22 Jul 2016 17:29:06
Can this be Leicesters attemp to push Liverpool to pay the asking price, or will this be the final of the Chilwell story?

Agree6 Disagree11

22 Jul 2016 19:45:11
Might push the Hector transfer through now, or we will probably sign amavi which would be awful. Not one of them villa players are worthy of a move after last season.

Agree5 Disagree18

22 Jul 2016 20:08:52
Yipster Amavi looked really good before his injury and then never played for the rest of the season he would be a very good signing providing there is no long lingering issues after his injury.

22 Jul 2016 21:28:12
Amavi is very good.

Agree3 Disagree2

22 Jul 2016 22:37:06
Hector is not coming except you have another 25m to splurge on a LB.

Agree0 Disagree3

23 Jul 2016 16:37:11
Amavi is a good left back, if he's clear of his injury then why not? Ed002 said he was someone we were looking at, he's a French u21 and has the quality to be a full international.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jul 2016 22:10:28
A mate of mine is a villa fan and he raves about amavi. I've never seen him play but I know Villa fans would hate to lose him.

Hello all

A while back, there was here some mentioning of Tottenham being interested in taking Henderson for next season. Could that still be on, or Wanyama's signing ended a potential interest in him?

Are there any clubs showing any interest in Henderson?

Believable2 Unbelievable20

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not looking to sell their captain.}

22 Jul 2016 14:57:01
It was never on, just media crap.

22 Jul 2016 15:04:49

Captain hendo STAYS! I wouldn't of even posted that question.

Agree10 Disagree11

22 Jul 2016 15:42:28
Some people want him gone and have done since he came to LFC.

Agree10 Disagree8

22 Jul 2016 15:57:08
Every player should come back and compete as if their future depends on it.
Hendo will.
Thats why Klopp is bringing in better players to challenge the previous big signings to step up.

Its what's wrong with the England national team.
Outd of form players picked by an out of touch manager.
Klopp i'd different.

Agree10 Disagree9

22 Jul 2016 16:19:07
he was never in touch i think.

Agree1 Disagree8

22 Jul 2016 17:45:01
I can't believe that anyone would think that Henderson's captaincy which is in its infancy would be difference between him being sold or not. This is Premier League football not Sunday League.

Agree3 Disagree10

22 Jul 2016 18:01:09
It's been years and years, but it still boggles my mind as to how Woy was able to take the Swiss national side to the #3 Worldwide FIFA ranking (the rankings being another story altogether) .

Agree2 Disagree7

22 Jul 2016 22:38:56
That was about 25 years ago. That's a generation, my friend ra1969.

Agree0 Disagree2

23 Jul 2016 17:30:21
Maybe the Swiss players were more open to doing what he wanted and weren't big stars wanting their own way or believing their own hype.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2016 06:23:57
Captains should play in every game. With new additions, not sure Hendo or Milner stay captains this year as they might be warming the bench. Personally, think Can should get the armband.

22 Jul 2016 12:27:15
Hi,

I was just wondering whether there is any interest in the following players:

Wisdom
Ilori
Markovic
Lucas
Balotelli

I know Balo has been mentioned a lot on here and I have read about the interest in Markovic from Sporting.

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - ILori's agent is hawking him around. Fiorentina and Schalke are interested in Markovic but want a better price. Galatasaray want permission to talk with Lucas - but they have serious financial constraints they have to deal with following their ban. Klopp was stupid enough to play in to the hands of Balotelli's agent - he is working on something now that suits him and the player. I have previously explained other interest. Do not be surprised if there is a six month loan before he moves.}

22 Jul 2016 13:07:43
Intriguing 002.

Agree2 Disagree15

22 Jul 2016 13:11:11
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I assume nobody is in for Wisdom then, I think he could do pretty well in the championship from the limited amount I've seen of him in the last season.

Agree1 Disagree8

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any approach being made to Liverpool at this time.}

22 Jul 2016 13:54:03
He wouldn't be a bad shout for Newcastle him and Hanley at cb.

Agree2 Disagree9

22 Jul 2016 09:48:03
Hi eds, appreciate the work you do, what do you make of reports linking Max Meyer this morning, is it merely the usual 'let's link any German player to klopp' or is there any substance to these reports
Cheers.

Believable3 Unbelievable9

{Ed001's Note - he is being linked with everyone because he is likely to move.}

22 Jul 2016 17:16:55
28m according to the Echo.

What's the Eds thoughts on Meyer?
Fifa suggests he's awesome (which seems to be on par with most research we've done on players so far) :)

Agree0 Disagree8

{Ed001's Note - not seen much of him to be honest.}

22 Jul 2016 18:50:15
Thanks Eds 1 me neither. I've seen Klippys transfers in the past put he paid less for so many world class players combined than 1 teenager.
Potential replacement for Coutinho if he heads off?

Agree0 Disagree4

22 Jul 2016 09:14:10
Hi Eds. Great job during this window. Any updates on the left back position now the transfer window is getting going. Is Hector still a possibility. Watched Moreno the other night and we have to do better than him. a real weak link in the team. Many thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable10

{Ed001's Note - we have returned to looking at Amavi, though I have no idea why we don't just pay the money for Chilwell.}

22 Jul 2016 10:44:25
How much have you personally seen of Chilwell to suggest that? (Not a criticism a genuine question because I, and many others would not have a true clue but a lot go on hype) . Moreno was going to be a terrific signing, on hype, before he arrived and failed consistently.

Agree2 Disagree10

{Ed001's Note - personally? Very little. I am going off the judgement of people within Leicester, who think the lad is going to be a top class left back. As for Moreno, we all knew he was hopeless defensively, the hope was that it could be taught to him.}

22 Jul 2016 10:49:44
Thank you! So there is a Liverpool lad who we have all seen a fair bit of and, for me, has more than held his own in the prem. He's in London plying his trade with West Ham - don't you think he'd be worth a shot? 26 is not a bad age too - he may be happy in London but he may have some home sickness too. I'm just surprised he has not been considered, or has he?

Agree1 Disagree9

{Ed001's Note - Cresswell? Not convinced he is good enough personally, he was certainly under consideration at one point though.}

22 Jul 2016 11:13:55
Ed do you rate Amavi? Would he be a good addition for us?

Cheers.

Agree1 Disagree9

{Ed001's Note - he looked quality before he got injured.}

22 Jul 2016 11:18:32
Thanks again. I doesn't make for good debate if everyone has the same opinion but I'm a fan and think he should have been considered as one of the England LBs. great delivery, relatively strong going forward and not been a liability defensively. But that's just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree8

{Ed001's Note - I think he is a liability defensively, he just works with a well drilled side who cover for each other. We don't have that at Liverpool yet. I expect Klopp to change that though over time.}

22 Jul 2016 11:26:13
I also think Klopp's best friend Wagner at Huddersfield recommended Chilwell. Let's see how it plays out. Fairly happy with the transfers so far but left back is my biggest concern.

22 Jul 2016 11:54:55
Fair enough Ed - and I hope so re Klopp and the defence generally. I will add view that nowadays with there being more expectation on the full backs to offer an offensive edge very few are as defensively solid as in the past maybe. But I was talking liability at the Moreno level whereby pretty much every time the right sided forward's get a run in the man seems to act like a bull to a matador!

Agree2 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - I don't think I have seen a bigger liability defending than Moreno to be honest. So I agree, he is nowhere near that bad. I also agree, there is so much onus on full backs to attack, very few can defend any more.}

22 Jul 2016 12:34:33
djimi traore would run him close.

Agree3 Disagree12

22 Jul 2016 15:43:00
Maybe play with 3 centre backs and 2 wing backs, Moreno& Clyne just hug the touchlines, maybe then and this is a big maybe, Moreno could be seen in a better light BUT I really want the club to buy a good leftback 😕.

Agree1 Disagree9

22 Jul 2016 16:22:23
There was never any hype regarding Moreno
And Liverpool were warned and told countless times by people in Spain he is not the defensive or solid left back Liverpool needed as he was more of an attack minded left back
So it was the club or Rodgers or whomever made it happen
It's clear as day that experienced people in Spain stated he is note what Liverpool need

And the proof was there all last season . Dude can't defend.

Agree3 Disagree7

22 Jul 2016 16:20:56
Moreno should be played in the top 3 behind the attacker.

Agree1 Disagree16

22 Jul 2016 17:50:10
Cresswell signed a new deal this week I think.

I know Paul Koncheskey has moved recently but do you think his mother would give him permission to move back? £25m should cover it.

(It's a shame I have to write this but I do. THIS IS A JOKE)

Personally for me I think we should pull out all the stops for Chidwell if we don't do it now he will sign for City or Chelsea for 30m next year and we will have to read all the posts on here bashing . insert name here. next season.

Thanks lads have a good day.

I see one of the media outlets suggesting that Inter Milan look likely to take Balotelli. Doesn't say if they are looking for a loan or straightforward purchase, probably at a very reduced price. Apparently Mancini still rates him highly and is happy to give him another go. Here's hoping.

Believable6 Unbelievable9

22 Jul 2016 15:51:56
Nobody is going to buy Balotelli as he is someone that can upset the dressing room and you have no idea what you will get out of him. A loan with option to buy is the only deal that makes any sense!

Agree1 Disagree6

{Ed002's Note - I don't think that is an option right now.}

22 Jul 2016 16:26:04
I heard a surprise bid for balotelli may come from Chelsea when Costa leaves.

Agree2 Disagree9

22 Jul 2016 17:42:08
Conte didn't pick him for Italy, can't rate him that highly.

Agree3 Disagree6

23 Jul 2016 11:52:47
I find it rather amusing all the positivity around Chilwell a player, let's face it we all know very little about (even Ed001 when asked said he was going by all the positivity coming out of the Leicester camp) and then the tremendous amount of criticism our management team are getting for signing GW, a player that I have seen close up in The Netherlands and personally rate highly. But it is not about my opinion it is about the managers and his staff all of whom have a greater understanding of what they will be doing, how they will be playing, and what players they need for that, than any of us. It is though, like I say, amusing how "hype" can generate opinion!

Good morning Eds and reds

It has gone quiet with regard to Benteke leaving. Have you any idea as to wether Palace are planning to up their bid or is there someone interested?

Personally I hope he does leave, just don't see him fitting into a kloop team.

Also do you expect any big surprise to us moving on a so called big name?

Cheers for all your efforts and knowledge

YNWA.

Believable3 Unbelievable8

{Ed001's Note - I expect them to return for him.}

Hi Ed, do you think that they will fail to land Bacca then?

Thanks.

Agree2 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - most likely.}

22 Jul 2016 10:09:35
Fingers crossed - not because I think he's a bad player just not right for our style of play and there is too much £ investment in him to sit on our bench!

22 Jul 2016 10:27:41
