According to reports Barcelona have started talks with Lorient over a possible move to sign Arsenal and Liverpool target Raphael Guerreiro.

I think that's where he'll end up. We should go for Hector, as he's better defensively and at 6'1 he's a better physical presence at set pieces.

Quick question for the eds. I know everyone wants to know about all the names we are linked with, but I would like to know has any team showed any serious interest in benteke? I thought after him clearly not being in our plans someone would be sniffing around by now. Thanks and keep up the good work Y. N. W. A.

Believable4 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - NOthing serious.}

26 May 2016 14:45:51
Ok thanks. My worry is that as he is on a very good wage he may try to dig his heels in over a move as he still has years to run on that deal. I also think that could put off potential suitors.

Agree4 Disagree5

26 May 2016 17:10:02
If he impressed enough to force his way into those plans though. I know people say how much Klopp likes his team to press and all the rest but lewandowski is hardly the most mobile of players. Benteke can run, he's a professional footballer. I still think he would be a good option to have. He has completely lost his confidence but he showed early on in the season he can score goals for us, some crackers too. Also missed a bag full of sitters which for me shows he can get into the positions in this team. We know from his record he can score those.

Don't worry too much Red Socks. It's bad for your health.

Agree0 Disagree4

26 May 2016 18:41:05
Unless we get £25m or more I say keep him and coach him to become better, to play the way the manager wants him to. You don't need to buy success, you can create it.

Agree3 Disagree6

26 May 2016 23:25:39
It's not about his talent, it's about his attitude and work ethic or lack thereof.

Agree3 Disagree3

26 May 2016 19:50:44
Have you actually watched lewandowksi? You don't have to be a headless chicken to be effective. You need game sense and benteke has a while to go. He may prove us wrong but he doesn't show like he's got it.

A better comparison for benteke would be Lukaku, until he spat his dummy out. Similar stature but Lukaku much more mobile and effective. Benteke has got it he just doesn't know it yet, but it probably will need to be elsewhere to achieve his potential, as he's too lazy to fit into JKs program.

Agree2 Disagree2

26 May 2016 20:25:34
Coach him to be better?
He's already a good player but doesn't fit into klopps style of play, you can't coach him that.

Agree2 Disagree2

26 May 2016 20:41:39
Benteke become better? He was no different than he was at Villa. Everything was served on a plate for him over there. Now he has to actually has to get stuck in which has been non existent since the day he joined LFC.

The biggest mistake came when the club decided to make him one of our highest earners.

LFC are in a situation where they are going to have to make Benteke happy financially to leave for another club. It is a tough pill to swallow but one the club should take.

Agree3 Disagree3

27 May 2016 03:49:04
Coach him up to be better? At what? He's been coached by Klopp for seven months every day arguably yet he's still poor and his attitude still stinks. If people like Benteke that much, maybe they should put up the cash to buy him from us so they can "coach him to get better" themselves as clearly Klopp is at his wits end.

Hi Eds, Have we made a bid for Raphael Guerreiro as Lorient's vice-president Alex Hayes suggests we have?

Believable1 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Lorient left-back Raphael Guerreiro has been of previous interest to Newcastle, Milan, Arsenal, PSG, Manchester City and Sampdoria. Marseille, Roma, Liverpool, Sunderland and Swansea have had watched the player this season. I understand from an Arsenal scout that they are looking again and that they will look to an offer. Roma, Liverpool and Dortmund (tice) have made offers that have been rejected. Barcelona has yet to make an offer but I suspect that the will.}

26 May 2016 13:48:42
SSN now reporting we have made a bid, is he any good ed?

Thanks Ed002 for the reply.

Agree3 Disagree4

26 May 2016 14:05:29
He looks similar to Moreno, arguably better attacking. On a review I saw for him, they put his one weakness as Tackling, a defender who can't tackle.

I guess everyone wants to know if he is better than Moreno, but that is difficult to judge till he plays in the premier league. He is young and hopefully learns his position better than Moreno seems to be able to.

I would still prefer a defender who defends first, like Hector, we have plenty able to provide in Attack. Trust in Klopp.

Agree9 Disagree6

26 May 2016 13:52:47
I was just interested in your opinion on him as a player as I've never hears of him if I'm honest and I trust your opinion over pretty much anyone's.

{Ed002's Note - He is a decent player - try the search engine - this is not new interest.}

26 May 2016 16:09:25
Ed with you stating before we have been pretty ahead on Chilwell where does it Leaves Moreno then?

Agree2 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - I see Chilwell to be unrelated to Moreno. Another left back would impact Moreno - so if Liverpool were to make an acceptable offer for RG then I would expect Moreno to go.}

26 May 2016 12:10:20
According to German magazine Kicker, who claim that Gotze had agreed a £175,000-a-week deal with the Reds worth £9.1million a season.
But the transfer collapsed on Monday when he decided to sack his agents Sports Total.

Gotze is currently on £105,000 (140,000 Euros) per week. I wonder what he has done in the last 2 years to deserve a 67% hike to £175,000? I doubt the story very much and it's probably just lazy journalism.

Morning Ed001

Any chance you can give us a transfer update, haven't been on the site in a few days and things seem to be moving fast.

Thanks for all your hard work!

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head, Matip, Karius, Grujic done, Chilwell as good as. Trying to sign another left back (though a versatile one who can play left mid too) in Guerrero (sp?). Coric for midfield. Backed off Zielinski for now, as Udinese were upset.

Trying to shift Balotelli, open to offers to pretty much anyone else. Skrtel should be gone for definite. Coutinho has asked to go but the club are trying to convince him to stay. No idea what will happen there as a lot depends on who can offer enough for us to consider selling. Barca would not mind him to fill the back up role, but they need to sell to buy, in particular Turan.}

26 May 2016 12:03:11
Hi Eds - would Liverpool consider a cash plus player deal for Coutinho or is it funds we are wanting?

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - player swaps are very difficult to organise. First there would have to be a player there we wanted. Then both sides would have to agree on valuations. Then you have wages to consider. Finally the player might not want the move. So it is unlikely there will be a swap involved.}

26 May 2016 12:09:25
Thank you very much for the update ED001, this looks to be a very interesting transfer window all around.

Also, since we are signing 2 new left backs, I guess this pretty much seals Moreno's departure from the club. Do you think Klopp intended this from the start or was it because of his lackluster performance in the Europa League final, not to mention other matches.

The one thing I noticed about Klopp early on was that he was constantly having to issue instructions to Moreno during his matches because he was out of position so often, I guess he recognised that Moreno lacked an understanding of his role in the team.

I also noticed that we are actually after Coric, I didn't believe it when I heard it from the tabloids but the fact that you say it is an option we might pursue makes me very happy. I've seen the kid a few times and he has always impressed. If we were to sign him would he be challenging for a place in the squad or sent out on loan for experience, which do you think ED?

And, lastly, I promise, was out interest in Dahoud real or manufactured by the media? I think Dahoud is a fantastic player and would love to see him develop into a top quality player at Liverpool. Though it seems highly unlikely since his club just lost two important central midfielder. We would have to pay over the odds which we seem fond of doing lately.

Thanks so much for all the hard work and I hope you are now stress free and can enjoy all weeks, months and years to come :D.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I think he has just realised that Moreno is not responding and improving. He gave him a chance and he failed to take it.

I only know Coric by his stats, so I don't know what level he is at, never seen him play.

Dahoud was of interest, but they want too much for us right now.}

26 May 2016 12:12:17
Thanks Ed!

Do you think we could end up going back in for Zielinski or is that done for good?

Also i am sorry to ask as this has been banded around a lot on this site and pretty much everywhere Liverpool related, but what is the situation with Gotze, is he now staying at bayern?

Cheers.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I would be guessing on Zielinski, it all depends on whether we get others and how many we can offload, but I certainly would not rule it out right now. A lot depends on if Udinese calm down as well, though they are very business-oriented so a slight overpay might be enough by way of apology.

Goetze is not wanted by Bayern, they want him gone, he wants to see out his contract and get a big signing on fee. It will be interesting to see how hard he digs his heels in.}

26 May 2016 12:34:01
hi Ed, it's been said on here b4 that balo could be off to china, has there interest gone now, if so is there any other takers at the moment, obviously we could do with the money for the others we would like .

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - the interest is still there mate. I am still keeping my fingers crossed on that, but he needs to stop believing he is too good to go there first.}

26 May 2016 12:35:26
I know absolutely nothing about Zielinski or Coric but i trust Klopp which is a refreshing change from Brendan 'kid in a candy shop' Rodgers! I still think if we could get Gotze for a reasonble price it could be a very good buy

Why do you think Liverpool have taken the stance of everyone being available for the right price Ed?

Is everything also sorted on your end now RE the rent etc?

Cheers.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - because Klopp wants to build his own team, very few are seen as fitting what he wants, so he needs to make lots of changes. There are a few, such as Origi and Firmino, that he really wouldn't want to lose, but a silly offer would enable him to rebuild the mess he was handed.

The rent is all sorted now thanks mate. Just got stuck with 4 more months here, which is not such a bad thing!}

26 May 2016 12:55:04
Ed, I just want to thank you for all the work you gentlemen do to keep us inform. My question to you is, with Skrtel and Toure both leaving the club. Do you see us making a bid for a center back or are they waiting to find out Sakho suspension length before making a final decision?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - RTP please.}

26 May 2016 12:54:56
thanks for the reply about balo Ed, I think the lad needs a reality check and go somewhere he can play regularly and not get splinters in his arse, you'd think with the lack of interest he's getting he would realise this .

26 May 2016 13:14:48
Turan + £25m for Coutinho? Tidy profit and a decent player too. Never happen of course.

Agree0 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - Turan has a really bad injury history. One of the things that the club looks at, as it should, before signing players. Leicester in particular pay close attention to that, it was the lack of major injuries that sealed the move for Kante. Players like Turan are great when they are fit, but they become disruptive to the team when they are in and out with injuries.}

27 May 2016 00:32:32
Ok Ed001, then Sturridge also might have a disruptive effect on our team? I was hoping that his injury-nightmare was ended, cause he is clearly a class-act when fit. But now he is out of play again. What is your opinion regarding Sturridge, should we (if possible) sell him?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Sturridge does have one, when he is out we struggle, but we already have him so we should see if we can sort out his problems, rather than just getting rid.}

Liverpool reportedly decided to walk away from a deal for River Plate hitman Lucas Alario.

Alario, 23, has hit 17 goals in 36 games for River since joining from Colon de Santa Fe last summer, and looks to have a bright future, whether that's in South America or Europe - but that third party ownership problem means that a possible dream move to Anfield has been called off.

Any truth?

Good aul Liverpool. Loan out all their players because they're either too crap for other teams to consider buying them outright or we've given them too much wages. Ultimately it ends with the player running down his contract and leaving for next to nothing. Groundhog Day.

26 May 2016 13:40:14
Ja Kurtz are you for real?

Coric is a serious, serious talent. He is probably on the radar of nearly every big club in European football right now. He has that much potential. I'm sure ed002 will confirm this. For all the noise that Odegaard was making I think this kid looks to have maturity beyond his years in football terms.

Agree7 Disagree0

26 May 2016 07:14:46
Eds is it expected Coutinho will put in a transfer request due to no European football?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - possibly, he has already spoken to the club about his desire to go because of it. Just have to see if talks between the club and himself can change his mind or not. I am hopeful he will see sense, he is still young enough to give it one more year at least.}

26 May 2016 08:01:53
No doubt I'll get loads of disagrees but I'd be happy to let him go for the right price. He's just a little tok inconsistent for me and we aren't too badly off with Firmino in there instead.

Agree17 Disagree11

26 May 2016 08:29:17
Coutinho leaving would be hands down a disaster - yet more evidence that we can't keep hold of our high profile players (for anyone keeping score, that would make our biggest player 3 years in a row leaving) . It's imperative that we keep him no matter what.

As for inconsistent. really? 23 year old flair attacking player in the premier league and he doesn't produce the goods every single game? Shocking.

Agree13 Disagree7

26 May 2016 08:33:09
Didn't one of the Eds say we want more than we got for Sterling for him? If we hold out for that either he'll be staying or we'll have ripped someone off! I love Pip and hope he stays but he's not worth more than £50mil that's just crazy!

Agree8 Disagree7

26 May 2016 08:41:33
Hjikle I agree with you mate. As a club how are we meant to move forward if we sell our best player's?

Agree5 Disagree4

26 May 2016 08:33:45
Thanks Ed. I'd understand IF he were to leave for a club in the category of Madrid (either), Barca, Juve etc as these teams play regular CL AND have a chance to win it. I never understand it when a player leaves, or chooses, a club which is in the CL but it's a good chance it's a one off season or they're unlikely to get beyond the groups. That never makes sense to me.

Would you expect, if he does go, it to affect the team much, as we have Firmino already there? Or would it be more harmful to attract players as again our best player leaves?

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - it is always a harmful thing to sell your better players as they are improving. We have been doing it for years now, it is never good if you want to win trophies.}

26 May 2016 09:25:44
Best thing for coutinho would be to star here, leaving for say Barcelona will harm his development.

Agree6 Disagree2

26 May 2016 10:00:58
For me, I would let him go for the right offer. I love him and he's shown the world he has some incredible ability occasionally. And that's the thing - He has the odd flash for us but he does seem to disappear in games - more noticeably when we aren't dominating the possession. I think he struggles to get a hold of the game when he has to press for the team. It takes the edge off his sudden burst / turn of pace when he does get a hold of the ball in the attacking half (you see him more and more make an errand pass or get shoved off the ball when this is the case. ) If he stays, he's young and he can adapt because he sure has the ability.

Agree5 Disagree2

26 May 2016 09:54:05
Let him go if he wants because he has done nothing to help us win the final and clinch the champions league spot. He was clueless in the final.

Agree8 Disagree5

26 May 2016 10:30:02
I'd agree that Coutinho leaving would be a disaster, but I also see the point that many on here have about not caring too much if he left, provided we got a good sum for him. The man wants European football, and when he got his chance to help the team get it, he didn't show up. Pretty much sums up his career at LFC. Highly skilled and creative, put in sufficient effort, scored and won many a game for us, but there was always that little something that was lacking and stopped him from being a true great. If we get the money for him, then I wouldn't mind going for Coric or Halilovic (Barcelona), or maybe even both, and see who comes out on top.

In terms of always having to sell our best players, I'll just point out what was said here on these pages, when FSG first bought the club. It was mentioned that FSG wanted to focus on a strategy of buying young players, develop them and then sell on for a hefty profit. And win titles and trophies at the same time. Subsequently, the Eds mentioned that such a policy was no longer in place. But I have a sneaking suspicion that this mindset by the management is still there. I could be wrong. But I agree that selling on your best players every summer is not the answer for any continuity. And lack of continuity will not win titles and trophies. It just perpetuates that dreaded word - "transition".

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is 23, what is lacking is experience. We should do what we can to hold on to him and help him grow with us.}

Eds, can I ask if you will indulge me and try to guess what Gotze's reasoning is by him choosing to stay put when he has been told he is not wanted at bayern, and therefore won't get much game time? And also thereby might threaten his starting place in the national squad?
Is he giving out this message because he will lose out a lot financially if he is seen to be the party that instigates the move to another club?
Surely if a major club makes an offer he will be interested?
I'm not suggesting that Lfc would be an attractive proposition at this moment, but one imagines there will be other offers?

There will be more than one thing going through Mario's head at the moment. He would walk into pretty much any team but he could want to stay to prove a point or it could be down to a loyalty bonus but I doubt that he would join us regardless. If Coutinho leaves I believe we will push hard to sign him but ultimately only he knows what his motives are at present. I honestly believe reuniting him with Jurgen Klopp is what he needs but we are a mid-table with no European football and that will also be playing on Goetze's mind.
